Majel Barrett Roddenberry died this morning of leukemia. She was 76 and had just completed the voiceovers for the new Star Trek movie prequel due out in May, 2009. Her portrayal of Number One gave me the courage to believe I could be whatever I wanted to be and know that others would accept women in leadership roles without the loss of their femininity. Her humanity was expressed on this earth by her great love for Gene and her compassion for those who cannot speak for themselves, our animal population.
We all will miss her.
In just a month and a half, the transition will be official. After all our hard work, let's take the 19th, Martin Luther King's birthday and the 20th to not only celebrate but recommit ourselves to the same level of energy and effort to support our new President so that we can move in the direction of the country we want and that the U.S. can become.

After the elation of last night, I find it hard to concentrate today. So many incredible thoughts are fleeting across my mind. The potential of a changed landscape, the enormity of the challenges. The need to leverage the forces that has brought us to this point to accelerate the momentum to implement the change while stoking the patience that will be required.
I look forward to the continuing adventure.
Hi! We made history. When Barack Obama was elected President today it was because of a trillion small acts from millions of Americans ovet the past 2 years that has brought us to this moment. Every little thing we do has an impact be it big or small. Every little thing can matter a great deal. A little push is all it takes to set off a chain of dominos.
Each of you has contributed to this moment in history. We've each given what we could. Please take a moment to reflect and write down some of the things you did that mattered most to you, or write down everything you did. It doesn't matter. Then, pass this on to everyone you know who contributed time, energy, and/or money to this effort so they can be included.
Please cc meltzer7@charter.net . We'd like to see how the list grows.
Jess in MA: Phonebanking, postcard writing/organizing, event hosting, and lots of other stuff. Jonathan Meltzer (Berlin MA) Standing in the rain with 700 other volunteers listening to Barack speak before heading out to door knock on the first day of canvassing in NH April 2007.... Convincing a woman in Nashua at 5:30 PM primary day who was not going to vote to go to the polls and vote for Barack.... organizing a massive student outreach in MA, VT, NH, NY and RI to get college students from NH to register and vote absentee in NH....
Emma RUddock (mass HQ) - pulling an all nighter at the Mass Headquarters with some amazing people and entering data, my amazing college dems leaders who's enthusiasm is so incredible and inspiring, realizing after the NH primaries that this was not going to be easy but that we were going to do it anyway, succeeding in convincing my parents to let me take the year off from college to work fulltime on the campaign, meeting some of the most incredible people that I have ever gotten to know, voting in my first presidential election
This is it - the day we have all been waiting for. The proverbial Fat lady is singing. Go out and vote now or miss the boat all together.
This has been a long race and I suspect emotionally challenging for Obama with his grandmothers illness and final transition.
Now is the day to see if it was all worth it. My prediction is that Obama will win by a landslide. He has brought us hope at a time when everything seems upside down and nothing makes sense. When people are profoundly impacted on many fronts by issues they have no control over.
So do not be complacent, send a solid message to Washington and the world (yes, they are watching). Go out and cast your vote today.
Peace and Prosperity to all.
It has been a long 21 months and within 48 hours we will know if the energy, work and hope we have dedicated to this campaign will have paid off. Whether or not America which needs a change is ready for the change that Senator Obama is promising to bring to Washington and our nation. While the temptation is to let up now, it now the time to draw upon that reserve of energy and action to make the final push. Whether a final phone bank, a last canvassing or election day volunteering, now is the time for all of us who have been working so hard to give just a bit more. Whatever you can do, do it.
I joined this campaign and engaged because I did not want to wake up on November 5 greeted with a McCain/Palin administration and know that I could have done more.
So, let's get out there! Push, push, push all the way down the field to that touchdown!!!
Ron Howard is a serious filmmaker. Watch him with fellow actors in this humorous but serious video in support of Barack Obama.

I will admit I do not catch every bit of news that comes across the wire on the presidential race but I am surprised that the lower 48 media has not picked and run with the Anchorage Daily News' endorsement of Obama on Oct. 25th! The headline reads, "Obama for President; Palin's rise captivates us but nation needs a steady hand." If you haven't read or shared the endorsement, just go to this link http://www.adn.com/opinion/view/story/567867.html
I guess she may be the most loved governor in the U.S. but even her constituency knows knows she's not ready...
It appears that the last hurrah for the McCain/Palin campaign strategy is to hammer distorted information on Obama's tax plan and especially, it fearful impact on small businesses. Well, I got a link to Local Voices for Obama and watched the videos which were uplifting, clear and hopeful. These are people, mostly small business owners, some veterans and the vast majority Republican voters from Ohio, Nevada, Missouri who are voting for Obama. Watch the videos and then, share the link with every Republican and/or small business owner you know. The clock is ticking...

I've heard this election process (and volunteering in it) compared to labor and delivery before. It's an apt description. I am so tired. I can't imagine what it's like for Barack and Michelle and their families.
I've been doing the best I can as a town coordinator but I also have two young children to care for and a husband who is also devoting a ton of time to the campaign spearheading the NH Student Voter Project. I don't want to feel like there was more I should have done so I keep pressing on and doing little bits as I can throughout the day. I hope it all adds up and combined with what others are doing each day we're able to effect the change we're looking to see in our government and our role in it.
But I am tired and ready to vote. We're all trying to push through and birth this change. There is no choice but to see this through or fail and failure isn't an option. I cannot see how our middle-class family can survive four more years. I can't see how our nation can survive four more years. I cannot fathom how we could not seize this moment in time, in history and elect Barack Obama President. He is the right man for this time. We need to see this through.
Passing along this thought provoking letter....
Dear Red States,
If you manage to steal this election too we've decided we're leaving. Weintend to form our own country, and we're taking the other Blue States withus. In case you aren't aware, that includes California, Hawaii, Oregon,Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. Maybe Florida. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially tothe people of the new country of New California. To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slavestates. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood.
Is it important to vote early? Yes, for many reasons.
What if there is something wrong with your registration? You will find out early by voting now.
What if your id is not in order? You will find out early by voting now.
What if you need to get to work and cannot afford to be late? You can vote when the time is convenient for you and avoid the lines on Election Day. That said there are not lines in some areas to vote early.
I voted early and was the only person there so there was no line.
By voting early you have ensured that your vote has been entered. That if you get sick on Election Day or have some other household emergency that you vote will still be entered.
If you live abroad then mail your absentee ballot in as soon as you receive it to ensure that it gets counted. Some states have not been counting ballots that are not received on time due to a lack of postage stamp so make sure they receive it by Election Day. Use express mail if you have it available.
We cannot afford to take this election for granted. Anyone who remembers their history knows that Dewey was a shoe in for president and that he lost to Truman. The poles cannot be believed, voter/election tampering aside.
Not everyone is unemployed. There are some people out there working very hard and are not paying much attention to the news. Help them by informing them that they can vote early and avoid the long lines.
None of us should be complacent just because the “poles” say that Barack Obama is ahead by 10 points. They are poles and they can be wrong. So make sure your vote and that of your friends are heard by voting early.

Okay, let's make an assumption. Elections go off without many hitches and Obama wins. There will be excitement and hope in the U.S. and ...around the world.
How is Obama and Biden going to maintain the incredible enthusiastic participation of the Obama network of supporters around the country once in office? He has continually said that this campaign is not about him but about us. While not exactly true, it is an opportunity to get/keep Americans directly involved. Oh, perhaps not the numbers that are actively engaged in the campaign but a good number.
I want to know what are his plans to really make the next four years about us? Does anyone know what they are thinking on this issue?
Earlier this morning, I put out a blog citing a Flickr blog about Obama as a Mac and McCain as a PC. That was by NO MEANS a slam on PC supporters of Obama. My home computer is a Mac and at work, I'm on a PC. Just thought it was an interesting comparison of the two candidates...
I want to that Shaun for raising my computer user senstivities.

Today, an interesting application made its appearance on to the iTunes Store: OBAMA '08 (iTunes Link). The app is a "comprehensive connection to the heart of Barrack Obama and Joe Biden's campaign, giving you the tools you need to make an impact to stay in the know." The iPhone app is even officially backed by the Obama/Biden campaign and allows users to read news, receive updates, track local events, keep track of phone calls made to friends to talk up the candidate, view media related to the presidential campaign, and more. The fact that a politician running for a public office would use the popularity of the iPhone to possibly sway voters and get news out isn't the reason why we are covering it, though.
What makes the OBAMA '08 iPhone application unique is the group of people who came together to make it. The volunteers include such talent as author and programmer (previously of Delicious Monster and Tapulous) Mike Lee; former Tapulous engineer Tristan O'Tierney; designerLouie Mantia; Jonathan Wight of Toxic Software fame, and iPhone Dev Camp I and II organizersDom Sagolla and Raven Zachary.
Regardless of your political affiliation, that is a rather impressive list of developers and designers who have come together to work on the app. According to Raven's blog, the programming aspect of the project took the group just 22 days. Although Ars has no political affiliation with any candidate or party, we found this group of developers and designers to be the true story here. It truly stands as a testament to the Apple platform and the kind of collaboration that occurs day-in and day-out for no other benefit than creating something that people like. The application is free on the iTunes Store.
This morning on Meet the Press General Colin Powell will announce his endorsement of our candidate, Senator Barack Obama.
He's done it, announced he is endorsing and will be voting for Senator Obama.Check out the BBC video, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/us_elections_2008/7678841.stm
