THIS ARTICLE MAY HURT SEN. JIM WEBB CHANCE OF BEING OBAMA VICE PRESIDENT CONSIDERING OBAMA IS TRYING TO COURT FEMALE VOTERS WHICH TEND TO VOTE MORE DEMOCRAT ESPECIALLY IN SWING STATES....
It's anybody's guess who Barack Obama wants to be his running mate, but the chattering class has fallen hard for Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va. On paper, Webb is the perfect choice for veep. Is Obama too closely identified with the left? Webb is a former Republican who served in the Reagan administration. (Washington Times editorial, June 7, 2008: "[Webb] offers Mr. Obama … an opportunity to blur some hard-left positions that are certain to alienate large blocs of voters.") Did Obama lose big in the Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia primaries? Webb's family roots lie in Appalachia, and he's a bona fide expert on the flinty Scots-Irish who settled there, having published a well-received book about them in 2004. (Eve Fairbanks, the New Republic, June 25, 2008, issue: "Like Obama, [Webb] is not simply a member of a group historically important to the party; he is someone who embodies that group, someone who has turned that group's narrative into his own.") Is Obama too cautious and detached? Webb is famous for speaking his mind. (Elizabeth Drew, the New York Review of Books, June 26, 2008 issue: "Like a boxer or a military man, Webb decides on his targets and charges straight at them.") It's this last characteristic that's the problem. Webb, 62, is a bit of a blowhard. Because he's a writer, he's left a paper trail. In a 1979 Washingtonian article, "Women Can't Fight," Webb wrote that it had been a mistake to open the military service academies to women:
[Women's] presence at institutions dedicated to the preparation of men for combat command is poisoning that preparation. By attempting to sexually sterilize the Naval Academy environment in the name of equality, this country has sterilized the whole process of combat leadership training, and our military forces are doomed to suffer the consequences. … [T]he system has been objectified and neutered to the point it can no longer develop or measure leadership. …

he's even doing better with women than expected...
Pollster Scott Rasmussen says that as of today, based on 3,000 automated telephone surveys over the past three nights, Obama gets support from 52% of the women in his national tracking poll compared with 40% for presumptive Republican nominee John McCain. He says that's better than Democrat John Kerry did with women against President Bush in 2004.

"We are one people, and our time for change has come!"

shows that the Republicans aren't just purging the rolls, but they are also going after volunteer registrars. We need to be careful but effective in our registration drives to counteract the purges and other tactics that will be used against us.
I was thinking about Senator Obama's Actions on the Wright thing. He did What Jesus would do (WWJD) I tell my children many times you can hate what the person has done but you still should love the person. In the spirit of living a Christian life we must learn how to condem the act and not the person. Senator Obama did just that. Christ was sinless yet he died for our sins. And each day we wake with one more chance to get it right. I just wanted to share that thought with you.
Yes We Can!!!
My precinct Harris County 27 had 18 Clinton delegates and 10 Obama delegates elected at the precinct convention. At sign in Saturday morning we had 10 Obama delegates and 5 Obama alternates --- and the Clinton delegation had to call people in to get to 18 for their sign-in. By the time we caucused to elect state delegates, the Clinton delegation was down to 17. And they had their strategy caucus on the floor -- they hadn't done pre-planning. We elected Patti Ross as our delegate to state by nominating 4 of us, and then all 10 voting for Patti!
Our delegate training worked! Thank you to our Field Organizers, and I'm so glad I got to finally meet Esther Morales face to face.
I got to talk with members from 8 of the 14 precincts in the East End about the East End Democrats club I'm trying to organize. I also spoke to Sen Gallegos and the next 145 House Rep Carol Alvarado about the club and they were both supportive.
I also stuck it out to become an Obama at large delegate to state. So I accomplished my goals for the convention. I left at 1:25 am CDT before the at large alternates were selected, because we had moved the convention into the Nominating Committe room on the third floor at 12:45 am. We were warned that the GRB would be shutting off the escalators and then the lights at 1:30 am and my post polio fatigue was approaching brain mush levels already, I couldn't take walking down stairs at that point.
When you're already cherry picking controversial remarks out of 36 years of sermons and addresses, why bother to do elementary fact checking?
Columnist Makes Error in Reporting on Obama, Wright" Bill Kristol claims Sen Obama was in attendance at Trinity UCC, Chicago on July 22, 2007 for Wright's "United States of White America" sermon, but the Senator was on his way to Miami so he could give a speech to the La Raza Convention that day,
Harris County has 874 precincts, but 330 have no Democratic precinct chair, because no one has filed for the office. This often means that the Republicans not only run the general election and Republican Primary, but also the Democratic Primary. Senate District 6 has 48% vacancy rate, and we’re a Democratic majority Senate District. Senate District 15, also a Democratic majority district, also has 48% vacancy. Props to Senate District 13, with a mere 31% vacancy. They are organized, no wonder SD 13 has so many DNC members.
Yes, it is work to be precinct chair, but it is work that needs to be done. Please, check the hcdp website, and if your precinct has no chair, find someone in your precinct to volunteer for the job, and talk to your SD steering committee people.
If you're thinking, but we elected a chair at the precinct convention, that's not the same thing.
A precinct chair is elected for 2 years at the primary. One must file for election, and if there is opposition or no incumbent, this race is on the *primary ballot* for the precinct. The precinct chairs serve as the executive committee of the Harris County Democratic Party. If your County Commissioner is a Democrat, then the Democratic precinct chair is also the precinct judge of general and primary elections. The permanent chair of the precinct convention is elected at the precinct convention by the attendees. The term is the length of the meeting through the deadline to file the official paperwork with the state and county party. Delegation Chair is elected by the precinct convention. These 3 offices may be held by 3 different people or by the same person, depending on the outcome of the precinct convention.
