Looking at the total cost of this budget is scary . Add to it the costs of bailing everyone out and it seems almost insurmountable. That is why the bailout needs to be handled the way it is. At least we have some hope of getting much of the bailout money back... eventually.

As far as the budget itself is concerned, the cost of not fixing education, healthcare, and energy, will cost even more in the long run. The benefits and advantages to America are great with the President's plan.

A better educated workforce will qualify Americans for better jobs meaning more interesting work as well as higher salaries. Higher salaries means a higher tax base allowing us to begin paying down our debt as well as helping to balance the budget.

Universal healthcare, in addition to the cost cutting that the President wants to do, will lead to lower costs for healthcare for everyone. Preventive care is cheaper than corrective care, and people will no longer be paying for a portion of someone else's healthcare because they can't afford to pay for their own.

A sane and green energy plan will cut the costs of battling pollution in the atmosphere and environment, we will never again need to fight a war just for oil, and we will no longer be shipping billions of dollars a month to oil producing countries that don't like is and can at anytime choose to hold us hostage.

All of that saving can go directly to balancing the budget, saving Social Security and other entitlement programs so necessary to insure the quality of life of Americans, and into taxpayers pockets.

It is the power of solving long range problems with long range and real solutions rather than "patching" things up for the short term.

I believe the Presiden'ts plan really will be cheaper and better for all Ameicans in the long run.

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!

Do not fall for the Moderate Republican crap that Crist, "Arnold", and Hagel, among others are feeding you.

None of them have America's best interests at heart. They are all considering their political futures FIRST. They are REPUBLICANS first, not Americans. There is a reason they seem to support Democratic proposals and it isn't what is best for America. Take advantage of their weakness and VOTE them out of office when you have the chance. Remember Republican Senator Gordon Smith of Oregon?? The guy who ran as if he were a supporter of President Obama? Do like Oregonians were smart enough to do, VOTE them out of office.

Governor Crist was almost soley responsible for John McCain winning the Republican nomination, Governor "Arnold" endorsed John McCain for president, and Hagel remained quiet when he could have made a huge difference in the election. They were LOYAL Republicans then and nothing has happened to change their minds. If they want your vote REQUIRE that they resign from the Republican party and denounce their past behavior first. Then you can consider them for a future political career.

I mean no disrespect to anyone but remember you are DEMOCRATS! Do you want Universal health care, an end to the Iraq war, a just resolution in Afghanistan, an equitable tax plan for the middle class and poor in the US, a real solution to the economic problems that face our nation, a green and less polluting future, an end to global warming, and a fed and healthy Africa, among other things? Then you must vote each and every Republican out of office when you have the chance. We need more Democratic Senators, Representitives, and Governors, more people who will support President Obama. We can count on only eight years at best to accomplish all these things. We need as many Democrats as possible in office, at all levels of government in order to accomplish these things.

To hell with worrying about the MSM, it is Republicans that can stop us!!

Or are you satisfied with a President who has already made history just by virtue of his election? I don't believe for a minute he is satisfied with that. But you decide.

Many of us act as if our job is done. All we have left to do is sit around and talk about how pretty our President and First Lady and their children are. Well you are right, they are! But so what? His wonderful smile and her lovely arms are not going to get one bit of legislation passed. Our work has just begun! We have terrible problems that must be solved. It is no time to sit around patting ourselves on the back.

Get back on your feet and get to work! Make phone calls,write letters, knock on doors, talk to your friends and neighbors. and help those less fortunate in your communities. Let all Americans know that being a Democrat and an Obama supporter means more than politics. Let them know it means truly caring for your community, your state, your country and your world.

I'm seriously considering sending the following e-mail to Governor Jindal and the other Republican Governors who have decided not to accept their share of the recenly passed stimulus plan.

Dear Governor Jindal,

I’ve read with interest your decision to not accept funds from at least parts of the recently passed stimulus plan designed to help the American people survive our current economic crisis. While I must admit I am surprised that you could have come to this conclusion, I have the following proposal for you.

Sign over all your rights to the money and other benefits you would have recieved to the state of Oregon and I will send you four (4) freshly caught Dungeness crab, two (2) filets of our finest smoked salmon, and a case of our best Oregon wineries wine.

I am certain that the people of your state will appreciate how you were able to turn something as horrible as the federal aid they would have received from this destructive federal program into a fine dinner to be served in the comfort of the Governor’s mansion to your family and political cronies. Since we have one of those “Liberal Democrat Governors”, you will be able to rest assured that Oregon will recklessly spend those federal funds helping our citizens survive the devastation on our local economy.

Universal Health Care

For more than sixty years, Canada has had a Universal Health Care Plan that covers every Canadian.

Now, our Republican friends always suggest that there is something lacking in the Canadian health plan and insist that Americans would not be happy with the coverage. I would suggest that the forty-seven million Americans without health care and the twenty million more who are under-insured would be more than happy to be covered by Canadian health care.

Canadians can reularly go to their doctor for a physical check-up. When Canadians are sick they can go to their doctor for treatment. They don't have to wait until the condition is serious enough to visit the emergency room for treatment. And people in Canada do not loose their homes or go bankrupt because they can't pay for health care that their insurance company will not pay for. Canadians pay a fraction of what Americans pay for prescription drugs. Every Canadian who livea at least six months a year in Canada is covered! Every Canadian!!

GM's health care contribution to their Canadian employees is about $600.00 a year while GM's contribution to an Ameican worker's health care is more than $6,500.00 a year. One of the main reasons GM opened manufacturing plants in Canada.

Apparently, Canada is doing something right. I would think we could at least look at those positive aspects of Universal Health Care in Canada when we are considering how we might cover all Americans health care costs.

BIPARTISAN effort

It is very intersting to me.

There were tax cuts added to the stimulus plan... at the request of Republicans.

There was spending removed from the stimulus plan... at the request of Republicans.

Isn't that a good faith effort at bipartisanship?

And then three republican senators voted for the bill and not a single republican in the house voted for the bill.

I may not be the brightest bulb in the pack, but it is clear to me where the effort was made.

Surely the American people can see the same thing I do and surely the Republicans understand they can't maintain this kind of obstinate behavior without paying the price in the voting booth.

The next eight years

I don't think President Obama is interested in being a good president. I think he wants to be a great president. The path to greatness is not the path of working half as hard and being sucessfully re-elected. It is the path of working twice as hard and solving as many of the problems facing America as he possibly can. The path of "If at first you don't succeed, try and try again"; of "Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again; the path of never quitting.

Many of these problems are problems that have existed and been ignored for decades, others are more recent (the last eight years), but all of them terribly important to America and the rest of the world. And they all need solutions now!

I truly believe this maybe one of the most crucial times for our country in it's history. Personally, I can't believe there is or has been a better person then Barack Obama to be our president at this incredible time.

Canvassing Makes A Difference in Oregon

Did you know that canvassing is the most effective way to get out the vote? Canvassing, which is basically going door to door in your neighborhood and representing Barack Obama, is the most useful tool we have to influence the Presidential Election. Here in Oregon, the whole canvassing process takes only a few hours, but it is immensely helpful.

First time canvassers receive training and support from Campaign for Change organizers, a targeted list of names of people who are likely to support Barack Obama, and are sent out to knock doors. Once canvassers contact a voter on their list, they ask the voter if they are planning on voting for Obama and Democrats down the ticket, and offer to take the voter's completed ballot to a ballot drop box. Nothing could be simpler, and you'll know you've helped to bring the change we need to Oregon.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was in Portland last Friday to speak to Obama supporters and encourage them to give their all in these final days of the campaign. Speaker Pelosi spoke to a gathering of Women for Obama supporters about the importance of putting Barack Obama in the White House, and noted how crucial it is for Oregonians to vote for Jeff Merkley and Democrats down the ticket, thus giving Obama the support he'll need from the Senate to enact the change America needs.

We have launched an official iPhone Application, a free download for iPhone and iPod Touch users. This tool is designed to help you become more directly involved in our campaign to change our country.
