Today I went canvassing for Obama/Biden. You'll note that my Obama tee hasn't arrived, so I made my own. I knocked on 64 doors in my neighborhood. These were voters identified by the party as independents, unreliable voters, or new voters. Of those, 29 were strong Obama supporters who said they would be voting, and only 7 told me they were voting for McCain. That's heartening in itself, but I also found that here in the purple-ish, blue-ish state of Oregon, in a small town (would Palin still consider that "real America"?) the Obama supporters seemed a lot more fired up. Sure, I was wearing an Obama/Biden bumper sticker on my chest, but the difference still exceeded what you'd expect. I'm feeling hopeful.Another observation: I talked with a union guy who was particularly excited. He made a point to show off the Obama/Biden poster he'd received from his electrical workers union. I'm always glad to meet another union member, but as a member of the teacher's union I couldn't help but think his union is better than mine. First of all, if he's representative of his fellow electrical workers (and he may be an outlier, like me) then they are more excited and supportive than we are. Teachers I know tend to be inexplicably split. Also, the house this electrical worker owns is a lot nicer than the house this teacher rents. Yep, his union is better.Lastly, when I went back to the Independence office of the Polk County Democrats, a guy came in to share that he not only had his Obama sign stolen out of his yard, as did many other people in the community, but he got the punks' license plate number and the police caught the thieves. So, way to go Mr. Ledesma!Tonight I'm off to a pumpkin carving party where the parents are evenly split, Democrats and Republicans. I made sure to pick up enough Obama stickers to put one on each of the kids.

A lot has been made of the now (in)famous "Joe the Plumber" after both candidates practically fallated him on national television for 90 minutes. But, as Beauty School Dropout Republican VP nominee, Sarah Palin likes to chide, we need to ask ourselves, "Who is the REAL Joe Wurzelbacher?"
Well, after some digging, it seems that all that pandering was for naught, as a search of the Ohio SOS website (you'll have to search) reveals, Mr. Joe the Plumber is not even registered to vote in the upcoming election.
It also seems that Mr. Wurzelbacher and family aren't necessarily in as tight a situation as Senator McCain would have you believe. A quick search on any small business directory pulls up six companies with the family name (four of which trace back to Joe, himself) in the Greater Cincinnati area - the only place where any Joe/Joseph Wurzelbachers can be found in my state.
Another Company - JCC Investments, Inc. - is also accredited to this "poor, poor plumber" whose chance at the American Dream is supposedly being shattered by Senator Obama's policy. Oh...and don't forget Ervin's Remodeling biz.
This poor, poor family.
Finally, let's not let loose from our minds another intriguing point. The Daily Kos is indicating that our poor friend Joe may also be related to big-time Republican donor Robert Wurzelbacher of Keating 5 infamy. (Link)
Let's see...He's not poor or even middle-class by any stretch of the imagination, he has called Obama and the idea of a Progressive Tax "Socialist", has been on right-wing blogs for over a week now, and interviewed (pre-debate) on right-wing shows.

Senator McCain,From the first time I was introduced to you at the age of 15 through CSPAN and other media outlets, I had a tremendous amount of respect for your (former) positions and (former) heroism.That respect is lost now.Senator McCain, you were victimized during the 2000 campaign by vicious smears and lies. One would think that a former victim of such filth with any sense of dignity would do anything in their power to prevent another human being from enduring it in the future. "One" would be wrong.Your heroism, your once respectable stances on the issues, as well as your desire to serve our great nation, have now taken a back seat only to your political ambition. This saddens me.Beyond this, you have now resorted to baiting your audiences through suggestive and hateful rhetoric - even to the point where they are audibly making death threats to your opponent. Yes, it IS at least a little insulting to vets who have more serious injuries who are more than capable of using a computer or writing emails.
Yes, John McCain himself said he was computer illiterate.
However, I think it was a dumb move on the part of our campaign to have run the ad they did because it simply opens us up to the attack that we're "mocking wounded vets." We all know that isn't true, and we have plenty of ammo to defend the ad (see above), but please, if anyone working from the campaign is reading this:

SP's supposed personal Yahoo e-mail account has been hacked. -APPLAUSE- gov.Palin@yahoo.com -- Does that sound "personal" to you? Well, looks like the little "gal" (as she calls herself) was dabbling into government related business using this account without the *SECURITY* of her state government e-mail account. Hmmm, could that be to...uh...bypass the restriction on deleting e-mails relating to government business? Perish the thought.
The screenshots of SP's account shows she received some e-mails with subjects that continue denote her humble origins. For example "WhooHoo" and "cousin Jethro jason". One of her friends told her not to let the negative press get her down. I say to the media, "Keep up the good work!". There is also a copy of SP's e-mail address book. In that we see the e-mail addresses for her pregnant unwed 17-year-old daughter and her husband, a four-time winner of the Iron Dog snowmobile race. SP's pregnant unwed 17-year-old daughter's address is her name @hotmail.com. Hubby's e-mail address is more cryptic. However, it is the same as his license plate, "fek9wnr" ("fe" - iron on the Periodic Table of the Elements, "k9" - a phonetic play on the word 'canine' which refers to a dog, and "wnr" - a phonetic play on the word 'winner'). WhooHoo! By golly, that boy sure is smart. He got himself some good ed-ja-ma-cation.
Aside from SP's potentially illegal use of the e-mail account, the thing is she kept using it even after she was named VP wannabe. Didn't she know that free e-mail accounts are not for e-mails that you want to keep secret? Just ask my ex. Someone on the McC campaign should have told her and her family to stop using free-email accounts and unencrypted e-mails.
SP was a poorly selected VP candidate and has been poorly prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. Heaven knows that I am no fan of SP but I could start to feel a tiny bit sorry for her. It is cruel for McC and the Republican Party to have chosen someone so personally and professionally unprepared for the possible role of VP. The lack of a thorough vetting prior to declaring her the VP candidate means that she is having to go through it publicly. Improperly preparing her and her family for the rigor and loss of privacy due to her candidacy has left them open simple things such as free e-mail account hacking.
I can't believe that the ineptness displayed on the Republican side is a sign of laziness. I swear what we are seeing in the opposition is the results of a brain drain. All of the intelligent people.... Hell, anyone with half-a-brain is supporting Obama/Biden. There is nobody competent left for the Republicans to use. That is why they have turned dirty and negative. Like the severally mentally incompetent, unable to express themselves competently on equal term and in accordance with social norms, they have resorted to their base and innate instincts of snarling and bitting.

I took a swipe at McCain and how his VP pick was strictly a political move and how Barack vetted Joe and made "HIS OWN DECISION".
If we can get enough Diggs on it it will possibly be in the top 10 of the day and everyone will see it.
It would be super exposure for Barack as he commented on the stupid "lipstick on a pig" controversy and made some other great comments on several things. He showed both Humor and also made some great POLITICAL points!
