It has been some time now since I have written in my blog. Since I last wrote, canidate Obama has become President Obama. I eagerly watched as he took the oath of office, surrounded by his beautiful wife Michelle and their two adorable girls. I am also very glad that he chose Joe Biden to be his Vice President.
Our country is so lucky to have these to men of such integrity and intelligence running our country. We have suffered greatly the last eight years and it is so refreshing to see people who will not only honor the Constitution but listen, ask questions and try to work with the people across the aisle.
I do not envy President Obama for the huge task that he has just taken on. Our country has so many problems to fix or change. Yet, if there is any one man who is up to the task, I would put my money on President Obama.
He has the perfect temperment and personality to enter into this arena, which some days looks like the the olden days of the Gladiators! They need someone with a cool head to oversee and meet with the different groups.
I know our financial system and economy are in shambles but I do believe that a change in our Nation's health care system might help everyone and save billions of dollars in the long run. Our Congressmen and women along with our Senators enjoy having health care coverage that is paid for and ran but our Government. For any of them to question or say it does not work is sheer hypocrisy.
If the Government insurance is good enough and works well enough for them then there is absolutely no reason that it would not work for everyone. Yes, it may cost us at first but considering how many people are without insurance or fear loosing their job and their insurance I feel we have no choice but to fix health care now.
Like President Obama said the other day on his newscast, "If not now, then when?" He pointed out that each of the past administraitons had always faced some crisis or some reason as to why to wait. The other side will always find some excuse to stop us from moving towards a coverage that will work for everyone.
No longer can we wait and I believe that if there was ever a President to lead us to a health care solution, the time is now and President Obama is the man.
As someone who has Federal Helath Care, I consider myself one of the "lucky ones" Of course I pay a high premium as an X spouse, but never the less, I have it. Each year they have open season and during that time I get the opportunity to view numerous plans and pick the one that I can afford and that I feel will meet my health needs.
I can't see why the government could not offer such a plan to everyone, which would bring everyon's premium down. I also think that there is something to be said about having some kind of an insurance for everyone that is similar to Medicare. It only makes sense to me that the more people who particiapte in a plan the cheaper the rpremiums will be for everyone.
I am asking for each of you to please sontact your own State representatives and ask them to work with President Obama and get something done. We can no longer afford to set idley by and watch more and more people slip into the uninsured abyss which in the long run is costing all of the taxpayers.
Please tell your Congressmen that if Government insurance is good enough and works for them that it is our right as citizens of this country to be given the same opportunity. I believe as part of their retirement they can keep their insurance, payed for by "We the People". I am tired of hearing one after another Republican get on television or radio and talk about socialized medicine when they themselves have it.
So the die hard Obama supporters are at it again. We're trying to stimulate the populous to stimulate the economy. Is anybody listening is the real question.
American citizens wanted a change. We voted to continue to create a more perfect union and it is becoming difficult to articulate what exactly is standing in the way.
It has occurred to me that people don't read history. Maybe most American Republican Senators aren't aware of Herbert Hoover's ineffective, "too little too late" attempts at balancing the budget in the first years of the Great Depression. Does Hawley Smoot Tarriff ring any bells? Well, Hoover was certain that protective tariffs and "buy American" legislation, could stave off a decline in domestic production and sales. This can't be our wrong doing causing a world depression. It must be the Europeans, he seemed to believe. WRONG.
Hoover also didn't believe in government aid to relieve human suffering. If you don't have a job, call a volunteer organization. I guess it didn't occurr to him that many volunteers and do gooders had lost their jobs and couldn't keep working the evening soup kitchen when their own families didn't have dinner on the table. Maybe he wasn't aware that the super rich philanthropists stopped handing money out after their personal assets had been relatively crushed with the stock market crash. When he finally got around to realizing, "golly" the masses need a little help, he wanted to use trickle down economics. This was in the form of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation in 1932. It was a loan authority for railroads, banks and municipalities to keep them from collapsing. He did adhere to the belief, to the bitter end that the richest would spend enough to get the economy moving enough to let the lowly middle class and the poor have enough to eat to keep them from revolting.
Well, I think that mindset is revolting. I just can't figure out why it's happening all over again and the only people that seem to be angry we are not passing the stimulus plan before all hell breaks lose are the workers. Everybody loses if we have a depression.
It seems to me, not that it matters, that President Obama doesn't realize how many millions he could mobilize if we had a clear direction. We can get him elected but now we need to overturn the Washington media establishment that makes light of the idealists that elected him. We should all be deeply offended. John McCain should not be trying to block him. Arizona needs this bill as much as Connecticut. We need a campain of bright articulate people that can converge on Washington and have a rally that the media will not discredit.
Middle class people will become poor. The poor willl be desperate. But the rich, the rich will be just fine.
Last two weeks of the campaign were difficult for me; my mother died on October 23 at the age of 89. I suspended making calls until the day before the election. Made over 170 calls on Monday and Tuesday.
Now we need to stay fired up and keep Obama to a progressive agenda. He's got a strong mandate. He can repudiate the strong executive, the unfettered surveilance... We can return to a constitutional republic and rule of law. Yes we can!
Work we've done is a good start. Now for a lot more work!
"I am here to tell you that it is fun and encouraging. You will find people are ready to talk... Walk, talk, have fun, CHANGE HISTORY. It can be done." ~ Andy Mattingly, volunteer
After he got home from canvassing last night, Andy sent me an email and asked me to forward it to you. He said:
Please forward this note to some other supporters that are looking for a way to help, but do not like the idea of going door to door. I am here to tell you that it is fun and encouraging. You will find people are ready to talk. I am constantly surprised that they talk as freely as they do. A lot of people are fed up with the state of our nation. They know darn good and well that McCain had a lot to do with the damage done here. Frustration abounds. They want to vote for the guy, but are afraid of the continued downward spiral that he has been so instrumental in creating. Many people have only been exposed to negatives about Obama. A face to go along with a positive message may be all that is necessary to getting them to open up. That face belongs to you and me. Get out there, talk to people. Talk issues. Talk HOPE. Your neighbors in Floyd county are good people. Hostility has really been minimal.

Hello all,
If you believe in having quality, affordable health care, then you may want to sit down. Here's a quote from Sen. John McCain's article, entitled "Better Health Care at Lower Cost for Every American":
"Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation." (Emphasis added.)
The American health care system is already in crisis, and McCain wants it to follow in the footsteps of the banking sector? If you've been following the roller coaster news of the $700 billion dollar bailout of that industry, then you know how ridiculous that sounds. It's time to demand quality, affordable health care for all. »
Apparently, it's not enough that American families pay $217 million for health care per hour, while insurance industry profits have risen 1,000% in the past five years. Something needs to change, and it has to happen soon.
Thank you for your time,
Kelly Hussung
I know we are all working extremely hard to make sure we do not have to endure any more of the same old politics in Washington. Please take a minute and watch this Youtube video a friend of mine wrote, performed and produced. It is a great tool that demonstrates just how close McCain and Bush really are.

You have to watch this Youtube video of the GOP fightsong. It is a great laugh for all of us. I know everyone is working hard to ensure that Obama / Biden will have the opportunity to re-direct this country away from the ditch that the last eight years of corrupt GOP control has directed us in. Please pass this along to your friends and family members for a much needed laugh in this serious time of CHANGE!!!!
We need to hit McCain now on this. Now! You will see the following week get bogged down in smears.
The Campaign has asked us to forward this link to everyone we knnow. Please forward this link to all your friends. I forwarded it to 157 people.

Now this is very urgent! Let me tell you why: I just watched an hour long documentary by Sean Hannity on his Hannity's America show sliming Barack Obama so much it would make you vomit. The "sources" he used weren't even credible authors, but if you watched that doucmentary and had no other point of view, you wouldn't vote Obama.
So let's get the word out NOW about John McCain. Forward this link now to your friends.
You respectfully tried to engage McCain in conversation while he completely avoided eye contact and came off as both disrespectful and untrustworthy.
Below is my letter to the editor that was printed today in the Newton County Enterprise (local weekly paper). Next week, we will be running a quarter page ad showcasing McCain -v- Obama tax cuts in 2009 (and how McCain gives the greatest tax cuts to the richest people & Obama offers the greatest tax relief to the middle class). I would be interested in any other ideas you have to reach mass viewers in rural Indiana. Thanks!~Theresa

Partisan politics aside, we must ask ourselves which candidate REALLY cares the most about rural Indiana. This is a pivotal presidential election. We must get past the catchy clichés, weigh the facts, and then decide if paying lower taxes, having a more secure nation, and leaving things better than we found them, is what is most important to us. McCain and Palin claim to understand us. They say they understand small town values. They say they’re one of us. No. This is just one more attempt to tell us what they think we want to hear, so they can continue to pass laws that hurt people like you and me. More military enlistments come from rural America than the cities. Instead of honoring those military personnel, our sons, daughters, brothers and sisters, the Bush Administration has repeatedly taken advantage of their service. They pushed us into a war based on lies, have spent trillions of dollars of OUR MONEY on this war that only “big oil” has profited from. Then, when our honorable veterans finally return home after multiple deployments, we disrespect them again, by not taking care of their mental and physical wounds. McCain himself says he AGREED WITH BUSH 95% of the time & plans to continue this war. Enough!
And then, McCain wants to continue giving tax breaks to “big oil”, as if they haven’t profited enough. People earning less than $250,000 a year will receive a larger tax cut under the Obama Tax Plan than under the McCain Tax Plan. Trickle down economics don’t work – and that is what John McCain is supporting. By the time that tiny stream of money trickles down to small town America, rural families only get pennies. Under the McCain plan, if you make millions of dollars, you get to pay LESS taxes. Under Bush & McCain, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. That kind of mismanagement is exactly how the US treasury has gotten into a $9.5 trillion deficit! The Washington Post has a really good comparison of McCain & Obama’s tax plans here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/06/09/ST2008060900950.html
We know what small town values are. Obama and Biden understand them too. They know that rural America doesn’t want a hand out, just a chance to leave our kids a little better off than we are. We’ve had enough of the elite few getting wealthy off of our blood, sweat and tears. On election day, I am voting for Obama/ Biden, and after reading these facts, I hope you will consider doing the same.
McCain suspends his campaign so he can focus on the economy?
seriously, wtf? he's going to actually be a Senator? And do what? He's been showing himself as terminally clueless about economic issues for his entire campaign... Oh I get it his campaign staff of Wall Street lobbiests needs to be in Washington to get their clients baled out.
Obama should invite third party candidates to share the stage with him Friday night since McCain won't be there to debate. Let Bob Barr carry the deregulation banner.
this really is a wtf moment.
I am not sure if you got to see Barack on the Letterman show last night but he was fantastic.

I just posted this video on the DIGG site and really would appreciate you going there and digging it.
I took a swipe at McCain and how his VP pick was strictly a political move and how Barack vetted Joe and made "HIS OWN DECISION".
If we can get enough Diggs on it it will possibly be in the top 10 of the day and everyone will see it.
It would be super exposure for Barack as he commented on the stupid "lipstick on a pig" controversy and made some other great comments on several things. He showed both Humor and also made some great POLITICAL points!
Please take a minute, watch the video and PLEASE go to DIGG.com and digg it. The Republicans have been burrying some of our good stories on the DIGG site so PLEASE help!

"Canvassing" means knocking on doors and talking to neighbors about the issues in this campaign and why we support our candidate. Here's what today's Georgetown/Franklin Townships canvassers said when I asked, "Why did you come out today to canvass?"
* To make a personal face-to-face connection with voters who may feel disconnected from the election.
* To make people aware of the election and their choices.
* The more face-to-face contacts, the more likely folks get information and the more likely they may vote.
* To show our neighbors that we support our candidate so much we give up our Saturdays to spread this message.
* It's important to connect the national story to the community. It makes it more relevant.
* Get the message out to help to stop the bankrupting of our great nation.
* The race is so close in Indiana. Every vote counts.
Personal contact is the most effective way to reach out to voters. In 2004, one more Democratic vote per precinct would have put John Kerry in the White House. And we know that for every 14 canvass contacts, we get one additional vote.
We knocked on just shy of 200 doors today! Think about what that could mean on Election Day! Want to canvass with us? Next one in Georgetown is Sunday, 9/14, meeting at Stacy's house at 11:30 AM. Go to http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/canvass/gpgh9y for directions and to RSVP.
