While we work on influencing the form of the health care legislation, there is a lot we can do right now to further the cause of health in our community. Come make a "deposit" in both the food bank and the blood bank. The San Antonio Food Bankand the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will have vehicles parked by the SAAPAC headquarters.
If you would like to donate blood, please contact us at alamobama09@aol.comto get scheduled. We need at least 20 donors scheduled by June 16 to make the mobile unit visit possible, so please act now!
We also need volunteers to work the event. Contact us atalamobama09@aol.com if you would like to volunteer to help and/or sign up for this event here on my.barackobama.com

The enthusiasm of Obama supporters spreads out in so many interesting ways. Josh and Bethany Horton of Memphis, Jason Powers of New York City and Josh Jeter from Chicago who all met in Seattle created the site and movement called Yeswecarve.com which encourages creation of pumpkins carved on an Obama/Biden theme.
The site includes stencil patterns which can be downloaded and it welcomes uploads of new designs. But just like our campaign, the site features the positive. As they say no "Attack O'Lanterns" are allowed.
As of today a YouTube video which uses Barack O'Lantern photos with the sound track to the campaign video "Signs of Hope and Change" has been viewed 38,000 times.
General Colin Powell calls Barack a transformative figure. So why not carve a transformative pumpkin this Halloween?
The best kept secret in north central San Antonio early voting is VIA Headquarters on San Pedro just north of Cypress. My wife and I do our early voting there every election and the lines are always short. Today was no exception. At 5:15 there was only one person in line in front of me.
The VIA parking lot is always packed (Why don't VIA employees take the bus??) but I've always been able to find parking. It's probably ok to park across the street at the Bill Millers.
If you want only a short line I highly recommend you head to VIA at 1021 San Pedro. From the Deco District just head down Fredericksburg. Stay on it as it becomes Cypress. At the San Pedro turn left. The VIA headquarters is a block away in a building that used to be a Kroger's.
Our SD26 SDEC members Celina Peña and Josh Bailey invite all District 26 Democrats to a meeting on Tuesday, October 21, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Firefighters Union Hall, on the northbound IH-10 access road between the Medical Dr exit and Wurzbach. This will be under the umbrella of "Friends of SD26," which, to the best of my understanding, is a new Democratic club or a PAC... I'm not sure, but let's all go and find out. This is one of the most persuasive Obama video's I have seen. Though its intended audience is Jewish Americans, I believe that it needs to be seen by anyone who is thinking about sitting this election out or who has become afraid of Barack's candidacy.
You may have missed this video of Barack's September 24, Florida news conference. It reminds me of all the reasons I want him to lead our country. In this conference he shows his wisdom, fairness and reasonableness. He shows he understands the issues and explain how to approach them better than anyone we've seen for a long time. Take a look at this conference and see a preview of the kind of leadership he will provide when he is our president. The video is 16 minutes long but well worth watching.

Fold US Candidates.com has created free paper craft finger puppets of Barack, John McCain, Michelle and the John's wife. So far they don't have puppets for Joe and Sarah. You simply download the pdf's, print them out and fold and glue them. These are 360 degree representations of the candidates. For some reason the the Barack puppet seems poised, statesmanlike and knowledgeable while the McCain puppet looks arrogant, combative and ill informed.
I printed the Obama pdf in the photo below on a malfunctioning printer and took the picture without proper lighting. Yours will look much better.
Hosting an Obama event? Why not make a few copies of them on a color copier for your guests?
Matt Damon compared Sarah Palin's candidacy to a really bad Disney movie. Now the folks at College Humor.com have made a really good movie trailer for that really bad movie.
John McCain has taken Karl Rove's advice again and is shying away from taking questions from the press. Here is a link to the McCain/Palin news conference clock. As of this posting it's been 36 days since John has held a press conference. Governor Palin was selected 21 days ago as his running mate but has yet to hold a press conference. Even Fox News acknowledges that he is ducking questions.
The “I’m a Little Confused” viral email amusingly lays out the hypocrisy of the Republican Party and their press sycophants.
I received it today, September 19 2008. My reseach suggests it has been modified and improved as it has been posted and reposted. Here is are links to the earliest versions I've found so far, from September 3, 2008. Otherwise there are a number of postings from September 12 which have it in a more developed form.

CQ TODAY MIDDAY UPDATE May 8, 2008 – 1:19 p.m.
Sen. Barack Obama , D-Ill., took his campaign for presidential superdelegate votes to the House floor Thursday, triggering complaints from some supporters of rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton , D-N.Y.
“I have a question in my mind whether it’s kosher, whether it’s ethical,” said Grace Napolitano, D-Calif., a staunch Clinton supporter.
“It’s unusual. He’s actively soliciting the votes of superdelegates on the floor,” said Allyson Y. Schwartz , D-Pa., another Clinton backer.
Obama’s explanation: “Oh, I wasn’t campaigning. I was saying hello.
“I just wanted to make sure that I gave an update not only to my supporters, but to those who are trying to figure out what direction to go in,” he said. “Obviously some have been anxious about some of the sense of division in the party, and I just wanted to assure them that whatever happens, we will be coming together.”
But other Democrats welcomed Obama’s visit.
“Where else can you meet superdelegates? I don’t have a problem with it,” said Majority Whip James E. Clyburn , D-S.C., who is uncommitted.
A number of Republicans said they were not aware of Obama’s presence as he made his rounds on the floor.
Obama started his meet-and-greet session in the famed “Murtha corner” of the chamber, where acolytes of Defense Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman John P. Murtha , D-Pa., hang out.
Murtha, who backed Clinton in the Pennsylvania primary she won decisively, said after this week’s split decisions in Indiana and North Carolina, “A lot of the superdelegates that might have been ready to get behind Hillary after Pennsylvania are now hesitant.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi , D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid , D-Nev., made clear Wednesday they do not intend to call for an early end to the contest.
