The weather was absolutely perfect in Durham! Wow, what a welcome!
Sunday, I knocked on 135 doors, spoke with 38 voters and recruited 1 volunteer.
It is important to get the facts straight when the Republicans state we will raise taxes!

McCain lost his moral compass and decided to try "celebrityboating" et al and now he is getting hit back. Joe will hit his friend hard. Politics ain't beanbags and Obama is from Chicago and understands that. Now that McCain has laid his marker on the negative campaign the gun is coming to the knife fight and Joe Biden will be wielding it. So lets try a different list in looking at the way he addressed this key decision and what it shows about the man: 1) Responsibility - He chose a man ready to lead and be President if he were thrust into that role w/ proven knowledge and credibility 2) Judgment - His self confidence is secure to bring in an older and experienced expert, like Kennedy, Reagan, Bush and others have done to join his team and advise him in an area that he needs help 3) Management Discipline - it never leaked. Compared to the Bush White House or the Clinton's this is amazing and speaks to Obama's skills. 4) Control - the campaign owned us all all week and did things their way, again with total discipline, unlike anything I have ever seen. 5) Realism - he chose a man that will help build the voting majority he needs to win in certain states, demographics et al 6) Shrewd Politician - People are finally understanding that Obama plays to win and works that way. 7) Insider Politics - in order to govern and get things done Obama needs to get work done on the hill and Biden can get that done as a skilled legislator and insider. The message of hope and change is only worth anything if he wins and Obama has acted responsibly to complete his ticket to accomplish his goal. If you folks haven't figured it out yet you don't go from giving a speech 4 years ago to coming from 30 points down to beating the Clinton machine by being shallow and inept. That requires brains, discipline and a connection to the people that taps their needs. Obama has done that and now he has put the last piece in place to sprint for victory.
On 15th August I hosted an event for Mr. Obama The rain and the distance probably was responsible for the low turn out BUT WHAT an event it was !.I await the blog from the Huffington Post rep who was there. For my part I sure learned a great deal especially from a NC native who increasingly suggested that more attention needs to be paid to the Rocking Chair Rural Vote in this state. As a member of the group Artists for OBAMA we presented a Poetry readaing in three languages.: FRENCH ENGLISH and SPANISH. My emphasis continues to be Obama for president not only of America but of the World!

Chris Stephen: How Obama dazzled Europe - with a little help « Previous Next » Next » View Gallery A good tour and some strong relationships to build on for Barack, says Chris Stephen IT'S official: God is on Barack Obama's side. How else to explain a global voyage through some of the world's worst trouble spots that went glitch-free and provided oceans of media coverage? TV pictures showed the senator looking commander-in-chief. By luck or judgment he arrived in Iraq just as the prime minister, Nouri al-Malaki, agreed that US troops should be out within 16 months, undercutting John McCain's call for a military presence of "100 years".Then he got to Europe just as a poll showed, for the first time, that a majority of Americans think the Bush presidency has harmed their image abroad and want a future president to repair it. "How did Obama get so lucky with his timing?" asked the online newspaper Politico.com.Back home, nothing went right for his rival. John McCain's big speech was to have been on an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico to argue that increased drilling was important and safe. But the Almighty decreed this was the day Hurricane Dolly tore through the region. Then a supermarket visit on the day Obama spoke in Berlin was undercut when an aide tumbled over a shelf of apple-sauce bottles."Why does God love Obama?" cried the TV satirist Jon Stewart, highlighting "the clear juxtaposition between drawing 200,000 people (in Berlin) and an old man nearly buried alive in an apple-sauce avalanche."Making things worse were McCain's glitches: he twice alluded to Czechoslovakia when he meant the Czech Republic, then argued on TV that Anbar Awakening, a scheme where the US is paying former Sunni terrorists to fight alongside its forces, came after the troop surge. In fact, it came before.Obama makes gaffes too, famously saying he was campaigning in "57 states", but his gaffes are attributed to tiredness, while McCain's remind viewers that he is 71.Obama's own handlers will take some credit for the success of a trip that was closely choreographed to provide the right TV pictures back home. Journalists on his campaign plane moaned about a lack of access to the candidate, but the handlers knew what they were doing: this was about image, not policy.By week's end, it had worked. At the start of the trip, Obama's lead over McCain was between four points and zero. By Friday it had climbed to seven points, the highest since early June. Worse for McCain is that the template for the coming election seems to have been set: Obama makes the running and McCain is on the defensive. "The amazing thing is how Obama sets the agenda," said one political analyst. "McCain looks as if he is constantly complaining about what Obama does."
Good Morning, Everyone!!!
WOW! Get thee to a platform meeting! You'll be glad you were in on this experience! On Friday night (early due to scheduling conflicts for the rest of the month) I had 24 people attend mine at the Jackson County Democratic Office. It was great! Everyone was excited about the idea of having a say in the platform. I have submitted a report to the platform committee along with a letter attached to the Jackson County Democratic platform for their review. I can't tell you how excited we are at the chance to participate in this project! Please try to attend one of these historic meetings!
We were lucky to have Nan Trout and Wayne Slawson there to tell about the work that went into creating the JCD platform! Nan acted as advisor and also helped show how our ideas compared to those of the existing platform. Wayne took the time to record the event and draw it up in the form of a platform. I want to thank Wayne and Nan for all they do for the JCD and for being there for me Friday!! Our JCD platform is available for viewing at our website: www.jcdemocrats.org
Our topics ranged from energy to mass transit to health care. Here is a copy of what we submitted to the platform committee:

We told you a month ago this was a stupid idea....
And our post on their disorganized campaign...
Just another month wasted by the seat of the pants McCain campaign
Expect the Republican party to do absolutely nothing about the racists in its own midst. The national Republican party in Washington has contacts all the time with its state parties. I'm sure there's money involved, and you'd better believe that when John McCain visits the states, he meets with local party officials.

“Your own story and the American story are not separate — they are shared. And they will both be enriched if we stand up together, and answer a new call to service to meet the challenges of our new century … I won't just ask for your vote as a candidate; I will ask for your service and your active citizenship when I am president of the United States. This will not be a call issued in one speech or program; this will be a cause of my presidency.”— Barack Obama, Speech in Mt.
