I am pleased to report the discussion meeting I hosted at my home in Los Osos on Saturday, February 7th was an overwhelming success. 23 peope attended the meeting. The discussion was excellent. Everyone was considerate, thoughtful and respectful. I was so proud to host this event. It was the true essence of freedom and democracy in action.
I am starting a new group on this site for everyone that attended the meeting as a place to share ideas and continue the dialogue we started.
Until then, All the best... and here's to progress and positive change.
I am excited to hear that Barack is possibly going to get rid of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell".
Hope he does this. As a gay man, that would mean a lot to me. We gays love America just as much as everyone else.
It is because I love America, that I voted for Barack Obama.
My thought is that before the US Government commits to fund State infrastructure projects, that the proposals meet certain goals.
1. provide alternative transportation systems. The current highway / freeway / bridge systems promote our addiction to gasoline / oil and increase global warming. A new transportation infrastructure would bring new jobs, require State governments to identify those 'paths of travel' that would bring the most reduction in vehicle use. GM and Ford could bid on building the transporation 'pods', but local municipalities would manage the new system.
2. States must adopt a 3-year averaged budget to allow for riding out lean years, modulating their ups and downs in spending. States create a 'savings account' during peak years, and drawing on this account during 'lean times'.
The name "Obama" goes through my mind while I'm awake, like a mantra. I have such hope and such deep anxiety coupled together like at no other time in my life. I feel the world turning, and I hinge my hope for my grandchildren on the outcome of this election and the subsequent work we can engage in. Pray? I have Barack and Joe Biden's photo on my altar. I awake in the morning, and I ask for them to be surrounded by white light of protection. when I go to bed at night, I ask all the ancestors and the future beings to hear us now, to help us now, as we go through this time. Melting economy? Don't know what to make of it - I just know that it couldn't go on in its current state. What's to come? Don't know. I just work to knit my own community together, one strand at a time.
Get on the phone. Talk to people in Ohio, New Mexico. Engage them. Let them know that their votes count. That's my meditation for the day.
Despite its best efforts, the McCain camp's sneering attacks are not proving that Barack Obama is not like the rest of us. They are proving that John McCain is not like the rest of us. Americans are hungry for a serious conversation about the multiple crises we are facing. And by ignoring that conversation in favor of yet another round of fear-mongering, McCain is showing himself to be the candidate who is "not a man who sees America like you and I see America." ...clip from Huffington Post
The news media, which the Repubs claim to be "liberal" and is seemingly over-run with sensationalist writers, is paying attention to the personality of our opponents veep pick.
We all know that job 1 of the media is to get viewer/readership up up up! This prohibits any possibility of "balance of presentation".
The Repubs are re-focused on thier war machine and the fear that feeds it. The broad populace seems to be gravitating towards thier ends justify the means moral code once again. As long as we are kept in a constant state of war, people will look to them to "tell us how to live". The Repub veep pick was specifically chosen to that end.
The Repubs presidential candidate has not changed who he is- just his presentation. All you see now is his veep pick. But why would we be so interested in his assistant? Have we forgotton so easily what he represents. The president has the power not the vice president.
If the Repubs candididates were running against each other they would be tearing each other apart! We should fear what this means in terms of te absence of a specific policy. The Repubs are attempting to present an all things to all people ticket. Strange that the same party brought us the "my way, or the highway" administration that we have now.
Please for yours, mine, our sakes, get out and vote for the representative of all of us, the real messenger of change.......Barack Obama!

So, I hopped on mybo this morning, hoping to find some events in our area, and I was surprised to see that the closest event is in Delano, CA. Thinking that couldn't possibly be right (SLO is a HUGE Obama town), I looked at the map showing all events within a 500 mile radius of SLO, and the image was a little sad. There are tons of events to the north, south and east of us, but not a single thing on the coast from Oxnard to Salinas. Can that possibly be right?
I'm going to informally poll my friends, figure out how to find track down Clinton supporters, and if all of that proves beneficial, look at planning a Unity Meeting for our area. It would be nice to connect with Clinton supporters and welcome them to the family, if they want in.
Any thoughts?
