San Francisco State For Obama

As students, we face a host of challenges. Tuition increases. Rising cost of health care. Finding a decent paying job. We keep hearing politicians claim they will solve the problem but they just aviod it. For the last 25 years, we have had Presidents and Congressmen, both Democrats and Republicans, push us aside and ignore our needs. We had good reason to ignore them: they were unappealing. Washington might as well be on Mars: it is unreceptive to our needs. Yet, things have gotten worse for us. There is no guarantee we will be able to afford to graduate. If we graduate, there is no guarantee to health care or a decent-paying job. We also will inherit the largest debt in history and we will have to clean our good name overseas. We need major change in Washington. We need someone who will bring a fresh perspective to our problems. That man is Senator Barack Obama. Many of you might ask "what has Senator Obama done?" The answer is: * Implimented Death Penality Reform when everyone in the Illinois State Senate said it couldn't be done * Helped fund health care for children who could not afford it * Authored an Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit that provided benefits to lower-income families * Got bills passed that increased funding for AIDS prevention and care programs * Is the only major Democratic candidate who has always opposed the war in Iraq and has called for a total withdrawl of US troops by March 2008 * Helped provide transparancy for government spending * Tried to increase federal funding to college students (killed by the Republican Senate) We are in historic times. The 2008 election could influence politics in our country for decades. We need a new direction in our country. It appears that California will have a greater significance in the 2008 primary. Our vote will be moved up to Feburary 5, putting after South Carolina. It is only fair we should play a greater role in the American Political process, since we are the largest state. It is time our voices should be heard. This election, we can make a difference. So, let's make our voices count and support Obama for President. Obama Baracks the Debate

Go to Link to rate the candidates after their first debate. I personally thought Obama did a terrific job. He brought more substance to fill out his stances, specifically addressing attacking the healthcare problem, and sounded presidential moreso than any other candidate. His comments on foreign policy were sophisticated and well measured. I think he clearly came off as having the chops to be leader of the free world. It already looked like a bunch of them were gunning for him, except for Clinton who seemed to want to not engage him.
