It's not just interns, people. Muslims like myself plan to infiltrate every branch of the government through lawful means. We wish to be--brace yourselves--politically active. Rep. Paul Broun (GA) stated the following regarding CAIR (Council on Islamic-American Relations): "If an organization that is connected to or supports terrorists is running influence operations or planting spies in key national security-related congressional offices, I think this needs to be made known."
Funny that no one really cares that Muslims are denigrated in this manner. Should Muslims just accept the fact they are not only illegally wiretapped, but also subject to hate speech in Congress?
Let me speak on behalf of the 99.9% of all Muslims world-wide, when I say
I plan to discuss some of the issues in my FIRST EVER webcast on under-reported human rights issues. I plan to host a live webcast 2-3 times per week at 9pm, EST. I believe that there is much work to be done to better address human rights violations. But as humans, I do believe that we have come a long way. And I believe that that the march of history will lead us to a world that treats one another more humanely. But in order for this to occur, the international community must be more aware of crimes against humanity that are occuring at this very moment. Please join me at 9pm, for the first webcast of "STRIKING THE ROOT." I will provide a link on this blog by 6pm tomorrow. The show will be archived, so if you miss it, not to worry!
Much of the news related to the conflicts in the past 15 years--from the Bosnian genocide to the recent atrocities by the janjaweed in the Sudan--have talked the number of people killed. But one never seems to hear or read about the mass rape these conflicts and several more. What does rape "accomplish" in the setting of conflict. Many aid workers who have participated in reconciliation efforts mention that rape serves several "symbolic" functions. What do you believe these are? And why is the press so hesitant to discuss rape in the context of being a terrible crime against humanity? Why are people afraid to examine the psychological effects of rape when it occurs elsewhere but quite quck to address the long-term impact of rape victims in the U.S.?
Please join my Human Rights Meetup.com group! We are called the "Washington Global Human Rights Meetup Group." As I mentioned in the description for this forum, this isn't going to be just a blog. In light of the desire for those who are interested to meet one another and truly garner exposure for human rights issues that have been all but ignored, I am officially connecting this blog to a meetup.com group!! Our first event will be participating a rally to stop genocide and will feature survivors from recent genocidal campaigns (4/19) . Kindly sign up by directing your browser to http://www.meetup.com/DC-Global-Human-Rights-Meetup-Group.
Many thanks! Hope you can make it to our first event.
I had regained some of my trust in politicians during the election and inauguration, only to have it be trampled once again by low-life politicians.
I watch those who are being very vocal against the stimulus bills, looking for signs that they are truly concerned about the welfare of their constituents and their nation, only to be repeatedly disappointed. I get the sense that most of them are playing to a camera - that they know the bill will eventually pass, but they want their day to day their say. They surely couldn't say what they're saying if they didn't think the Stimulus Bill will pass - how could they face the reality of a bankrupt nation, with people out of work and out on the street! They are playing to the cameras, and getting their fifteen minutes.
But don't they realize that so many people are hearing them and are believing them - that we will be OK if we just get $600 like last year. Yeah, that really solved the problem, didn't it? They are talking out of the other side of their mouth for their own private gain and glory, assuming that the Bill that MUST be passed, will be passed, and this gives them permission to act up like 5 year old children!
The wages of selfishness have led us too close to disaster. When we our leaders, on the right side of the aisle, remember their promises to work "across the aisle" for the good of the nation. I think I heard that. Didn't any body else.
I will pray and I will hope, but I have lost such respect for the small minded, biddies on the Republican party. Only 3 in the Senate and NONE in the House that could try to work out something that would be in the best interest of our nation. God save us from this type of hypocracy!
The Obama fund raising campaign by Returned Peace Corps Volunteers from the first group to begin training for the Peace Corps -- COLOMBIA ONE (June 1961) -- exceeded its target. In addition, many of those who contributed, and many who did not, made other donations as individuals and through other groups.
Muchas gracias to all of you who through donations and other activities helped elect Senator Obama. I believe that all of us, including those who did not vote for him, look forward to a more enlightened and effective foreign policy and an end to military intervention based on manipulated “intelligence.”
The results of Colombia One fund raising campaign for Barack Obama are:
Fund Raising goal: $1,000
Amount donated: $1,180
Number of contributors: 21
Average donation: $56.19
The Colombia One effort is also included in results reported by other RPCV Obama groups. Colombia One ranking in the major RPCV fund raising campaigns is presented below. These groups include donations from groups and individuals who set up fund raising pages on “my.barackobama.com.”
Peace Corps: PCVs and RPCVs for Obama
Colombia One campaign ranked number 8 of 137 in total amount donated.
Colombia One campaign ranked number 4 of 137 in number of contributors.
RPCVs for Obama
Colombia One campaign ranked number 5 of 65 in total amount donated.
Colombia One campaign ranked number 3 of 65 in number of contributors.
Gracias a todos y abrazos,
Don Reinaldo

You have done it. I cry with emotion. It was worth it. Let us continue for America.

The race to the Bottom by Josh Marshall
If you're thinking to yourself that there's little more than two weeks before election day and Obama has a solid lead in the polls, don't be so sure.
Yes, it looks good for the Democrats. But you need to play close attention to the McCain campaign's final weeks' strategy under and just above the radar. McCain's final strategy relies on two pillars. The first is aggressively playing to voters' fears of electing a black president. Make no mistake: not just his campaign in a general sense, but McCain himself and his top handful of advisers, are banking on the residual racism in a changing America to get them over the finish line. The second is an aggressive use of innuendo to convince casual voters that Obama is in league with Islamic terrorists bent on killing Americans.
Many people have asked whether enough Americans really care any more about the cultural convulsions of the 1960s. The answer? It doesn't matter. For the McCain campaign, Bill Ayers has nothing to do with 60s radicalism. Ayers is nothing more than a tool that permits McCain, Palin and all their surrogates to use the noun "terrorist" in polite company in the same sentence as "Obama," over and over and over again. It allows them to cobble together a 'respectable' version of those Obama smear emails they can push in commercials and robocalls and surrogate talking points every hour of every day.
Stripped down to its components McCain's message to voters is this: "Don't forget. He's definitely black. And he may be a terrorist." That's the message. The nuts and bolts is a concerted effort to keep Democrats from voting -- through intimidation, by striking new voters from the rolls, which is going to happen to lots of them, clogging polling stations to create delays that keep late day (predominantly) Obama voters from voting altogether. Smears in the air and voter suppression on the ground.
Many people say, well ... all this stuff just hasn't worked. But the truth is that the really corrupt and vicious part of McCain's effort only comes now because it's only in the last couple weeks that you can pull stuff that the press won't get to call you on before election day -- after which it doesn't matter. Will it take Obama down? So far McCain's gutter campaign has hurt him more than helped. But there's no reason to be sure it will continue that way. And many Obama supporters, sure the election is basically wrapped up, appear ready to slack in the stretch and let McCain smear and cheat his way into office.

Who is Elwyn Tinklenberg?
I say that question is not as important as who he is running against for U.S. Congress.
Namely, Michele Bachmann.
Ms. Bachmann today during an interview on MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews, called Barack anti-American and called for the media to investigate both houses of Congress to identify "liberal, leftist, possibly anti-American," members.

This is a wingnut who possibly rivals Palin.
She leads in the polls by 3-4 points, but with 15% undecided, I think she is vunerable.
I have therefore just contributed $200 to Tinklenberg. Please consider helping Tinklenberg defeat this wacko.

While we see Barak "surging" in the polls , and this gives us great hope, I must bring up the topic of the "Bradly Effect" in which 5-10 % of polled voters lied because of race. We need to factor in this possible effect to our expectations and more especially to our efforts to do every thing we can in the so called "batleground states".
Bradley Effect or not, we must not let up. Plase do all that you are able. This is too inportant to get lazy about.
Sarah Palin has captured the imagination and souls of many folks this past week. She has presented a picture of this Warrior Woman, Seductress, Emasculating Woman, and Sacred Mother all at once. She has captured the imagination and the souls of many who have been grieving over the loss of a dream. 18,000,000 voters who cast their votes for a woman they believed in, looking for somewhere to go with huge feelings of anger, despair, and hopelessness, and along came Sarah.
How do we begin to De-mythologize Sarah so that we can see who she really is? The most effective way to break through the "myth" is to simply have her interviewed. Right now everybody is reading what they want to into Sarah. Lots of disenfranchised voters out there are looking for something/someone to believe in. Once she speaks, she will put definition on Reality, not Myth. Let's hope the media is strong enough to insist that she be interviewed on THEIR TERMS. Not only on her turf on 9/11, a day when he son is being sent out to Iraq!!! What a setup to continue the Myth! But that's what we've gotten so far. We need to persist to insist that she sit down and be interviewed like everyone else, about who she is and what she believes, to put the projections to rest!! Perseverence, and prayer is what we need now!
Peace, Pat
So...Sarah Palin spoke at the republican national convention last night.
Yeah.
Just provides a huge, resounding confirmation that in choosing to support Barack Obama, I've indeed chosen the right candidate for the job of President of the United States of America.
We need Hillary to take the center stage right now to address Sarah Palin. Sarah claims she is speaking like a wife and a mother, and is asking the women of America to support her plan to be the next Vice President. To follow through in breaking the ceiling marked with 18,000,000 cracks!
We need you, Hillary, because you have a heart for the people, and you have a program that speaks to their needs and their welfare. This "upstart" is trying to pick up where you left off, and appeal to all the disappointed, disgruntled women who are still grieving your loss. They are so vulnerable. They need you to step in and speak out, to tell them that she is so far from what you are, what you stand for - to remind them again that their vote was not for you, but for your program - especially the universal health care - that is sloughed off by McCain and Sarah. They need to hear your voice to remind them what you stand for.
You touched my mind and my heart with your fervor for the good of our country, for all of our suffering poor who deserve better, for all the minorities who have been invisible too long. They need your voice to speak out loud and clearly - NOW.

So there's a lot of speculation about whether or not Palin will be able to bring in the women's vote - simply because she's a woman.
Personally - I think Democrats are smarter than that and that few - very few - would consider voting for a woman of another party for the sole reason that she is a woman. We tend to vote on issues, the platform.
Can't speak for all women, of course, but a few of my friends were texting me during the Barack Obama's acceptance speech Thursday night. These are all Democrats who supported Hillary in the primary.
Found this post at Huffington, in which we find a song/video which rivals will.i.am's "Yes We Can".
Mentioned is the well known fact that the nomination is on the 45th anniversary of Dr. King's "Dream" speech.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dave-stewart/an-anthem-for-change_b_120514.html
I'd like to also note that this will be the 40th anniversary of the first official nomination at a national convention of a Black American for President of the United States. That would be Channing E. Phillips.
