Hello all-
anyone who has been checking this site frequently over the last month or so has probably noticed that I have not been on much during that time- and as such alot of events were never posted within the group in time. I am going to continue experiencing an internet blackout for a little while yet, but I will be up and running by the Convention for sure. of course if there is anyone who would like to help me and co-admin my RC4Obama group drop me a line. We can not lose any ground, miss any oppurtunity to get the people of this country behind Barack.
The time has come to change the world.
Obama supporters decorated a truck and participated in the Brookings Fourth of July parade.
The Obama truck was decorated with American flags and banners, red, white and blue ballons, and lots of Obama signs. It was a lot of fun decorating the truck and the entry was a great success.

Wow.That's about all I can say. In a heated exchange at tonight's S.D. Democratic Executive Board meeting in Oacoma, Hillary Clinton delegate Malcolm Chapman said--and State Chair Jack Billion confirmed--that the Clinton campaign offered a major fundraiser to the state party in exchange for two superdelegate votes.Chapman noted that he had almost "cut the deal" with the Clinton campaign. Billion said the price was "too high." He also said non-office holding superdelegates like him had to give a lot of consideration to Sen. Tom Daschle's, Sen. Tim Johnson's, and Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin's position on the race as they are major financial benefactors to the local party.I'll post more as I learn more.

Fired Up! Ready to Go! Keith Olbermann's comment was that Barack's speech in Mitchell, SD this morning was one of the Great Stump Speeches. I hope you heard it. It truly was Greaaaaaaaaat!

In a little strip mall on the corner of Haines and Anamosa, a half a block away from my apartment here in Rapid City, SD there has opened an Obama campaign office.
Our first organizational meeting was last night. It was a very succinct outline of what our campaign team is going to do in the next week and a half, as well as a broad description of what we will be doing over the next six weeks and five days until South Dakota's primary- the finish line for Barack's nomination, and the starting line for our general election efforts.
While it was largely a "getting to know you" session (I had to go to work directly after the meeting and everytime someone asked me where I had been, my answer always solicited this question- Was he there?) it was one of the best moments of my life.
Voting has always been important to me, and every election cycle has helped that feeling grow- but this time is different. I have always wanted to get involved more involved than just voting, but I never knew what to do, how to get started. Barack Obama's candidacy has changed all of that for me- he has inspired me so much that I put the excuses aside, and I went looking for the answers, looking for a place to start.
I created my group, Rapid City for Obama, hoping that it would lead me to others who were like-minded in their support of Barack. The first few weeks were a little shaky, I must admitt. While I did have a couple of people join early on, my group remained- and still does- small, but I was committed to doing the things I wanted to do to campaign on Barack's behalf in the Rapid City area. I was committed, but I have to admitt I was starting to worry that I would be out there on my own, that though there were surely some Obama supporters out there that I would never connect with them. Yet, I would not stop. I would not be defeated.
Now, things have changed, and I am having a hard to verbalizing the feelings of excitement and solidarity that were running through me last night. I was in a room with roughly a dozen other Obama supporters- we all have our own reasons for supporting Barack, and some of my reasons may be the same as some of theirs, but that isn't what is really important. The important thing is that we were all there together, focused on doing anything we could to support this campaign. We were all committed to sending a message that South Dakota is for Obama, and the campaign takes us seriously as well. In Melissa Ness, they have given us a gift- an intelligent, open, and experienced person to organize and lead our local efforts.
This is a very exciting time, and I can't wait to get started.
Obviously- here is the big news that was in the Rapid City Journal-
I want every Barack Obama supporter in the Rapid City area who comes to this group, whether they join or not, to visit his Myspace page and click on the button that sends in a demand for him to visit the Rapid City area. Let our voices be heard, let the people meet the man, work together to show the nation that our voices do matter and that we stand hand in hand with Obama supporters across the country.

CNN calls South Dakota for Obama. This is the text message I want to recieve on my phone on the 3rd of June.
When the National map is thrown up on that screen on Nov. 4th, I want to see South Dakota go blue.
Barack Obama doesn't need to just claim victory in South Dakota's primary- he needs to gain an overwhelming amount of the vote to send a clear message that we know that he is the best candidiate for President. In order for all these things to happen, everyone across the state must come together- Republicans, Independants, and Democrats.
I am organizing a voter registration drive, as most of you know. I have most of the details worked out... the only thing missing is the "where" and the volunteers willing to help make it happen. Drop me a line if you wish to volunteer or if you have any ideas for the venue.
My theme for this registration drive drive will be Democrat for a Day. I want every Obama supporter to pick at least one of their friends or associates that is a Republican or an Independant and get them to switch their declared party for just one day- the June 3rd Primary. Since South Dakota holds a closed Primary, we need to pull as many people as we can from the other side and get them registered as Democrats so that they can vote on the Democratic ticket in June.
More about this later- for now let me know what you all think.
Greetings to all-
Welcome Republicans, welcome Democrats. Hello to Obama supporters and the Obama-curious. This group is open to everyone, everywhere, and is dedicated to all those who have given so much and have worked so hard to keep this inspiring campaign going.
I am sorry that it has taken so long for me to get any information up about this group and our purpose. I have little to get on-line now-a-days, but I will be here and I will be available with increasing dilligence as the June 3rd Primary grows ever closer.
In any case, my name is Jason and I created this group for a number of reasons-
The first is I wanted to open an arena for Obama supporters across Western South Dakota to discuss this campaign, exchange ideas, and plan how we can spread those ideas out into the public. This forum will be open to anyone however, any person, any place, any topic, any questions are all welcome here.
The largest, most persoanl reason that I created this group was to reach out to people in the Rapid City area. I have already volunteered to become a Get Out the Vote organizer. I am currently working on planning a voter registration drive to take place the weekend before the registration deadline in May to get people out to the polls for Obama in June. I want to meet people, form a group of volunteers, talk about Obama and his campaign and strategies on how we can get others in this area- Republicans and Democrats alike- to learn more about Barack Obama- his policies and his vision for America, and how he is the best candidate, the best hope this country has seen for years. I am looking for volunteers, and I am looking for a core group of volunteers who will put as much time and sweat into this campaign as I am willing to give- a group of people who are willing and ready to lead small groups of their own. People who could meet, semi-regularly to organize our efforts for this campaign. I want to spread information about this campaign to as many people, no matter what age, what walk of life- I want Obama's campaign to touch everyone's lives in the same way it has touched mine.
I'm ready to go- now lets get to work.
