It was once said that a black man would be president "when pigs fly" ...indeed 100 days into Obama's Presidency...Swine Flu!!!
In the spirit of National Service Day i would like to offer my appreciation to Tony Dungy.
As a hoosier and fellow American I want to acknowledge your 'quiet strength'. Like a pebble-in-a-pond your presence had a positive rippling effect on your team, colleagues, and community. I'm reminded of the shared empathy expressed by your colleagues, the Indiana governor, and Colts owner upon hearing about the death of your son. Yet, even more the empathy shared extended to fathers across the country who upon hearing the news reached for the phone to contact their own child(ren), to hear his/her voice.
Your work involving fatherhood initiatives (ProDad and its associated programs, iMOM and Family Minute) encourages not only men but women that success is not measured just by the ability to offer material provisions but also includes responsibility towards family in terms of quality time.
Tony Dungy, you are one of those 'thousand points of light' spoken of more than 10 years ago. You are a world-class gentleman. Best wishes for the future.
Is it closed for good or what?? It's been down since Friday..:(

I support Barack Obama because he has the vision to achieve US energy independence; the integrity to rebuild environmental protections dismantled over the past eight years; and the demonstrated leadership to reach across the partisan divide to represent the entire American public. I have spent more than twenty years as an advocate for sound energy and environmental policy and an advisor teaching about long-term sustainable development. I began working on energy policy while I was still in college in Missouri, and now continue my work as an environmental law professor in Indiana. I recognize the importance of preserving and expanding jobs even while we develop energy alternatives and protect public health and the environment; this is a need that people in the Midwest understand better than most. Meeting this need calls for innovation and cooperation, and Barack Obama is a proven coalition builder and leader. From the time he was a community organizer and state Senator in Illinois, Obama has moved beyond the special interests and animosity of the past. He has offered detailed energy and environmental policies that will move our country forward after too many years of delay. I trust him to lead a new administration that will value – just as we in the Midwest value – good jobs, energy independence, and environmental sustainability.
I'm curious as to what everyone's thoughts are on this???
Personally I dont think we should pay for this bail out....

As a Hoosier, I approved this message: 100,000 Strong Against Evan Bayh for VP.
Reason #1 The media hype concerning his appeal in Indiana is exaggerated. Even among democrats there's more respect for his father, Birch Bayh than Senator Evan Bayh. Although he was deemed a popular governor.
Reason #2 Sen Evan Bayh is just a 'Legacy'. Enough said.
Reason #3 Many Hoosiers have noticed that if you write or otherwise contact Sen. Bayh about any concerns, you would be extremely fortunate and very surprise to even get an acknowledgement of the receipt your coorespondence. [Unlike Senator Lugar who responds promptly and it's evident that many responses are not just a form letter or a cut-and-paste job. Hey, maybe Sen Lugar just has a better staff running his office, eh?]
Reason #4 The perception is the only time we hear from Sen Bayh or see the senator is around election time.
Reason #5 When Sen Bayh left Indiana to go to Washington, D.C. well...he left Indiana.
Reason #6 When I started to really consider Senator Obama as my choice for president I viewed the process as Sen Obama was applying for employment and I wanted to check references. Therefore, I contacted some family members/friends who lived in Chicago ...constituents who could provide information about his performance as senator. Needless to say, all (balanced) information influenced my decision.
Hopefully, Senator Obama considers all (balanced) information the constituents of Indiana are presenting before promoting Sen Evan Bayh to vice-presidential nominee.

Hello, fighters of the good fight. Things have slowed down a little here at the HQ of our effort to keep Barack Obama from selecting Evan Bayh, who is to the Democrats what Matchbox 20 is to rock and roll, as his running mate. I thought this this article about Mrs. Bayh's corporate ties might help light a fire under our collective hinds to invite some more people to join the fight.
From the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette: http://www.journalgazette.net/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071216/LOCAL1004/712160424 Some fun stuff from the article: "Susan Bayh has become a professional board member, earning more than $1 million a year in director fees for advice she gives to companies that make pharmaceuticals, operate radio stations, sell health insurance policies, offer online banking and distribute ingredients to fast-food restaurants.
In the past four years, Bayh collected more than $1.7 million in pre-tax income when she exercised stock options from two of the corporations. Her actual income from exercising stock options is higher, but the details of one transaction were not publicly reported.
During the same time, her husband, Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Ind., cast more than 3,000 votes, including some on issues of keen interest to the pharmaceutical, broadcast, insurance, food-distribution and finance industries."

There are many Obama Supporters, both Republicans and Democrats who are excited about the election this year. This morning the Indianapolis Star newspaper announced Obama Campaign has organized the National Security Summit
Date: Wednesday, July 16 Time: Noon. Location: Purdue University.
It is becoming really obvious that the Hoosier state will not be taken for granted, even become pivotal as a battleground state (Our votes will actually matter...yippee!)
...and <GASP OF SHOCK> after 40-years, may actually vote a Democrat for President.
Indiana is a known for many things...outstanding universities, talented public servants who achieved national acclaim, 'Hoosier Hospitality', and fickle weather...ah, yes, there's more than corn in Indiana.
What is it like living in Indiana? Here's some 'tongue-in-cheek' jokes that will give you an idea
(Fellow Hoosiers will actually understand these jokes and may even chuckle ;)
If your local Dairy Queen is closed from September through May, you may live in Indiana. If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don'twork there, you may live in Indiana. If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, you may live inIndiana. If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Indiana. If "Vacation" means going anywhere south of Muncie for the weekend, you may live in Indiana. If you measure distance in hours, you may live in Indiana. If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you may live in Indiana. If you have switched from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day and backagain, you may live in Indiana. If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzardwithout flinching, you may live in Indiana. If you install security lights on your house and garage, but leave bothunlocked, you may live in Indiana. If you carry jumpers in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you may live in Indiana. If you design your kid's Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit, youmay live in Indiana. If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph -- you're going 80 andeverybody is passing you, you may live in Indiana. If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled withsnow, you may live in Indiana. If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and roadconstruction, you may live in Indiana. If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car, you may livein Indiana. If you find 10 degrees "a little chilly", you may live in Indiana. If you actually understand these jokes, and forward them to all yourIndiana friends & others, you definitely live in Indiana
INDIANA --- NOT BLUE , NOT RED, ......BUT PURPLE IN NOVEMBER!
YES, WE CAN!!!
Ah, yes there's been many cheers and disappointments during this 'silly season of politics'. To this day, some supporters have been questioning whether Obama will deliver "change we can believe in".
In the past, politicians seek to be the rock that makes the 'big splash' where everyone focuses on their ability to bring about change. In my opinion, Senator Obama seeks to be a pebble-in-a-pond.
A pebble has the ability to bring about change in a more productive manner --- incrementally. A pebble causes cessation of stagnation. Obama has caused cessation of voter apathy.
A pebble may not be seen in the pond, but the effects i.e. ripples are seen clearly. Obama has explicitly stated that the Campaign/Movement is not about him. His efforts have caused 'ripples of hope' to spread throughout the nation. His efforts have caused 'ripples of change' in election processes and issues discussions.
"Change We Can Believe In" is making progress while not causing un-necessary drama. Positive productive change comes through incremental steps not through bullying and revolt.
Yes, a pebble-in-a-pond may be overlook or not receive recognition for their efforts, but they are still significant.
So, for those individuals --- democrats, independents, republicans, progressives, and conservatives who may be questioning can Senator Barack Obama deliver "Change We Can Believe In"? Well, in many ways, He has already 'signed, sealed, and delivered' the change we seek. In other ways, I say if we continue to trust his judgment and support his candidacy, "YES WE CAN"
I am so pleased that yesterday Senator Obama released the following statement regarding protection of the Great Lakes through the Great Lakes Compact. I live just a few blocks from Lake Michigan and really treasure that water. With all of the Great Lakes state governors supporting the Great Lakes Compact, we seem to be getting really close to positive action in Washington to make this protection a reality.
Senator Obama's statement is as follows:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT:
Wednesday, July 9, 2008 Michael Ortiz, 202 228 5566
Statement of Senator Barack Obama on the Great Lakes Compact
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barack Obama today released the following statement after the state of Michigan became the latest Great Lakes state to sign the Great Lakes Compact. The Compact is an agreement between the eight lake-bordering states to protect the Great Lakes from water diversions and exports. The Compact must now be approved by Congress.
“The Great Lakes are an international treasure and supply drinking water to almost 30 million people in our country. The Great Lakes Compact is an historic agreement to protect our Great Lakes from water diversions and exports. It is, perhaps, the most significant legal action to protect the Lakes in the last 100 years since the Boundary Waters Treaty between the U.S. and Canada. This Compact on managing Great Lakes water is essential for the environmental and economic health of the region.
“All eight Great Lakes states have approved the Compact and now it’s time for the Congress and the President to take action. The Compact should be quickly ratified. I will be an original co-sponsor of this legislation with Senator Carl Levin and Senator George Voinovich and will work across the aisle to pass this important bill. I am committed to working to fully implement this Compact to protect America’s truly Great Lakes.”
This is my attempt to explain the differences between Barack Obama and John McCain on taxes and to dispell untruths:

Howdy folks,
I have entered the blogosphere by starting my own blog site called Political Peon at the following link:
Political Peon Link
My reason for doing this is because of my intense desire to see the way we communicate politically changed. On a more personal and perhaps selfish note, it is to get some of these thoughts out of my head so that the cobwebs in my brain can be cleared out.
I have always enjoyed writing but been too chicken most of my life to put myself out there. I know I am not the most brilliant mind there ever was, but with all this freedom we have and that we constantly talk about and tout, I thought I'd better use some of it up before it's all gone.
The other reason for my blog is to express my views on "Our" candidate, Barack Obama. Barack has helped me to believe that we can change our political discourse, we can listen to each other without bouncing from outrage to outrage, reaction to reaction, but to begin the process of engaging in reasoned and thoughtful discourse without all the party bashing, label trashing garbage that we have seen for so long.
It's up to us to change the dialogue (bottom's up) and not the responsibility or duty of the digital images that seek to make everything in politics a competitive sport. Our politics are supposed to make us better as human beings and citizens; not to have us at each other's throats. I think this is what Jon Stewart was trying to say up until the point when he called Tucker Carlson a bad slang name for the male appendage on CNN's crossfire, which subsequently and ironically is no longer on the air.
Where is Mark Twain when you need him? Let's keep talking and let's keep Baracking.
Obama Yay!
