Toughness is necessary. Republicans can invoke lie after lie and then through a creative process of repeating the same lie,(abeted by the fox propaganda network) we have what amounts to evangelical truth. If Obama is going to win he must demonstrate how tough he can be. It may me the single most important characteristic a President can have in his arsenal. The American people don't want another republican but they will not accept someone who leaves doubt to their ability to defend the country, the citizens and their families. NO Toughness, no dem as prez. Its that simple. Obama knows this. He has 53 days to convince America he will protect our wives, husbands and children. It is not just a security issue. It is economic, it is issue oriented, but it is much more visceral than intellectual. I know Sen. Obama can do it, but he must begin now. PS. he cannot get his ass kicked by a vp candidate from alaska on the toughness question. The kid gloves must come off. The better candidate is Obama, I think a decent majority knows this but a lesser candidate who doesn't take any bullspit will always be percieved as a stronger and more capable candidate. What good is having knowledge without the power to implement change.
I believe we all need to get tougher when dealing with hate mongers and bigots. I know I will.

all of us want to elect Barack Obama. I'm gonna keep this simple. to win he must carry 270 electoral votes. to do this he must carry the industrial states and a new democratic midwest/west. It comes as no surprise there are several states that take on more strategic importance than states that are solidly blue or red. One of these states is Pennsylvania. To win PA you must win a majority of the vote. Often there are bellwether congressional districts just as there are states. Barack Obama is a Democrat with a vision. An inspired as well as an inspirational man. If he is fortunate enough to be our next president as I truly believe he will, he will need to govern. To pass progressive legislation and lead with his wnique vision, he needs congressional partners. Siobahn Bennett is running in the 15th congressional district against Charlie Dent. A Bush syncophant who carries a tag of moderate, he believes he deserves his position by birthright. Try going to him with a problem. He will not intercede in any fashion with a private company. His staff is agrogant and not competant. "sam" bennett has more than a chance to unseat Mr Dent. If you need the aid of your congressman, or if you want to help Barack Obama govern then you have no choice. You need a congressperson who will deliver change to D.C. So I ssk you to knock on doors, make calls, give your house a "bennett for Congress" presence. In other words break your ass to exercise your partipation for the greatest Democracy in the world. Ms Bennetts web site is bennett2008.com .
I'm sure both money and shoe leather would be greatly appreciated.

I am the Legislative Director of the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO. I was recently forwarded a letter from an APWU member who wondered if there was an APWU group on 'Obama 08'. I came online and was happy to find 'Postal Workers for Obama.' I'm sure there would be a lot more activity if our members knew the cite existed -- we've got lots to talk about! So, in haste, I've created my blog, and look forward to having a discussion with other postal workers for the remainder of the campaign. i hope you'll come back often, and share.

I am curious to find out how your co-workers feel about the election. Is it split? Is there a clear favorite? How about your community?
I may as well start by saying I live in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. This area has been politically mixed. This is a surprise given the long labor history here. The congressman here is Charles Dent( republican). However the Mayors of Easton, Bethlehem and Allentown are all Dems.
I dont have a real feel yet for the general election, either among co-workers or the community. Working for the Post Office I have always found it amazing how many of us vote aganist our best interests.
I believe with the proper amount of attention (lots) this red leaning area can be flipped, with Obama winning the general here and Ms. Sam Bennett beating the republican incumbant.
I am going to do whatever I can to ensure happy days are here again.
I will say more about Congressman Dent tommorrow.
