Cable news and right wing blogs are swarming with the revisionist history on the New Deal. Arm yourself against lies, spin and propaganda by reading info from a number of sources.
Here down a article about this topic. [Media Matters is a progressive media watchdog and fact checking organization which has received accolades from numerous sources (except the right wing media which often gets debunked by Media Matters).]
The link to digg it and for article: Conservatives Cherry-Pick 1930s Unemployment Figures
Summary: Columnists Mona Charen and George Will continued a trend among conservative media of responding to comparisons between the current economic situation and that of the 1930s and between Barack Obama and FDR by attacking the New Deal. In separate columns, both Charen and Will cherry-picked unemployment figures to assert that the New Deal did not reduce unemployment. But historians and progressive economists have noted that unemployment fell every year of the New Deal except during the 1937-38 recession; further, Nobel-laureate Paul Krugman has said it was a reversal of New Deal policies, not a continuance of them, that contributed to rising unemployment in 1937 and 1938.

Yes, Bush-administration and "the same" is leading a country too, but not well, only leading to use more weapons and to occupying places in the world because of oil and so leading to waste more money. Stop this; save money, lives and nature - bring jobs back, restore the future! Yes we must fight, but for new energies and our future, to get Obama elected!

As i finish watching the amazing opening ceremonies of the Olympics tonight, I can't help but reflect on the new world in which we are living. And for me, Obama is the both the symbol and the reality of that new world.
We have an unprecedented opportunity to make a difference here in Ohio. The 2004 election showed us painfully how close is not good enough - we've got to win the election. And we can't just take it for granted that the polls will be accurate and we will win with by a few percentage points. We all have to do everything we can to make it happen.
Go to your local campaign office and meet with your neighborhood coordinator. Use the neighbor to neighbor online tool and knock on some doors. Host a house party. Check online for organizing events around the city.
We have only 88 days left until the primary. Let's make the most of it.
We are the change we've been waiting for.
The idea of market regulation usually scares republicans, but I would encourage you to think about this and send it on to anyone who believes that the markets are self regulatory.
In the presence of a global economy a self regulating market is harder for me to believe in than in a local economy, but here are two examples of markets...ie consumers of any given product or staple in a society not doing a thing about themselves.
Oil. Oil is skyrocketing upward because of the global economy. China and India are both consuming more oil than we are, bringing higher demand, less availability, and higher prices. Some die hard republicans will argue that the oil market IS regulating itself with hybrid cars and alternative fuel research, but I still know people who can't afford to go to work due to high fuel prices...not to mention that hybrids are still sucking down gasoline at rediculous MPG ratings.
Food. The country of Zimbabwe not so much effected by the global economy, has seen an inflation rate of over 384%. No that is not a typo...384. people are starving to death because the cost of food is so high there. These two markets have been left alone by any form of government.
We have won the primary election and are now on to bigger and better things. I would like to thank all of you who have read my blog entries as well as those who commented.
I would like to take a minute to appreciate and thank Senator Obama for the things he has endured over the last sixteen months. I travel a few weeks at a time and it is exhausting, I can only imagine what he is going through. I would like to invite all who read this to just stop for a moment and say a prayer, or chant, or just wish good luck and will for Senator Obama in the months and years to come. If any of you ever meet him, thank him for the hardships he has endured. I also stay in cushy hotel chains and eat at nice resturants while I am on the road, but it is still exhausting and gets very old. So if the chance does arise, thank him for me as well.
Good night
Ryan Gardner
After many months of researching ways I can personnally "green" up my home & lifestyle, AND to search out potential alternatives of biofuels, I ran accross a plethora of articles on switchgrass & sugar cane (not so much on agave & hemp though) as a plausible, renewable, eco-friendly means of weaning ourselves off Arab-supplied oil. Our Candidate, Sen. Barack Obama is committed to this issue and recognises the urgency of our daily-increasing economic hardships involving our oil dependency, our need for renewable energy sources, and our need for additional food crops - both for America & abroad.
Sen. Obama has already promoted corn-ethanol production & consumption, but the entire issue of corn-ethanol is failing us, miserably! It has been reported that the cultivation, growing, harvesting, & processing of corn into ethanol is way too costly - not just financially, but ecologically as well. When you take into consideration the costs of diesel fuel needed to run the tractors to plant, fertilize, apply pesticides, irrigation, harvest, transport, then to process the crop into ethanol, is extremely high. Then, farmers must calculate in the cost of the seeds to plant, fertilizers, pesticides, etc., it gets far more expensive than the final profit the product can generate.
Some researchers have conducted studies that are proving to show that switchgrass could be one of the alternative fuels we need in order to help break our "addiction" to foreign oil! Switchgrass is a plant native to The America's; it can grow in very diverse climates, needs little to no fertilization, pesticides, and water irrigation, it grows back yearly (with an approximate 10 year regeneration span), it's renewable & sustainable! AND, it's proving to produce higher yields as a biomass energy crop per hectare than corn! Thus VASTLY reducing green house gases, diesel fuel for managing & refining, and the use of prime farm-land needed to grow food crops. In an article published online on 7 Jan 2008 - by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) - a study on switchgrass was conducted by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, from 2001-2006. The study reported that the switchgrasses net energy yield (NEY) was 93% more than an equivilant non-renewable crop. The "switchgrass produced 540% more renewable than non-renewable energy consumed"; the green house gas (GHG) emissions were "94% lower than estimated GHG from gasoline." Now, that's impressive!
Folks, we're in a rapidly sinking fuel ship, and we ALL need to decide what it is we should do & do it fast! Like, 10 years ago "fast"! We MUST find solutions to far too many problems we currently face. This could be one of the first problems/solutions we can resolve now, and I believe we can do it! Another thing that we can do immediately to conserve our oil usage, among other things, is to limit our errand-driving trips to 1 day per week (not including work-related driving, of course). I welcome debate, input and/or comments on this truly important & urgent issue that affects us all!
Thanks for letting me rant & have a GREAT NIGHT!
Obama + Change in '08/12
We owe a big debt of gratitude to Senator Hillary Clinton. Why? She is vowing to stay in the Democratic primary race to make certain that "all votes count"!
Uh...Memo To Hillary: Whether you officially remain in the race or not, ALL VOTES WILL COUNT.
It may be a bit of a suprise to Mrs. Clinton and her staff but the primaries will be held whether she participates in them or not. The media may not be making much of it, however, the Republican primary race has continued...and John McCain is NOT the only candidate receiving votes. With each approaching primary, regardless of who is still officially in the race, delegates will be awarded to those candidates who received votes because ALL VOTES WILL COUNT!
Curious thing, though...even if the flawed primaries of Michigan and Florida are included, unless the Clinton camp manages to win the remaining state primaries by somewhere around 70 to 80% she has no mathematical chance of catching Senator Obama (let alone passing him) since ALL VOTES WILL COUNT!
Whether she is REALLY staying in the primary race because she needs more face-time in the limelight...or an invitation to be a running mate...or who knows what special favor...ALL VOTES WILL COUNT!
If she REALLY wants to be the Democratic Presidential nominee, Mrs. Clinton has only one option: to convince enough superdelegates to cast their ballots AGAINST both the elected delegates AND the popular vote of the party primary. What an interesting way to be President: making sure SOME votes DON'T count while claiming that you are committed to seeing that all votes count. Yep...we've seen that act before...HAVEN'T WE?!?
If I were to write a letter to Senator Obama, what would it say?
Dear Senator Obama,
Thank you for inspiration. I am twentyeight years old, I have a wife and daughter, I live in Fairfield Township, OH (a Cincinnati suburb), and I believe that together we can change the future.
Thank you for the courage. My wife and daughter are the most important people in my life, and because of your encouragement, I have stood up for something I believe in to make this country a better place for my daughter when she grows up.
Thank you for the resources. Without this website, I would not have been able to convey my thoughts and feelings about the issues at hand, become connected with people of similar interest politiically and socially, and reach out into my community due to my traveling job.
Lastly, I thank you for having the courage to stand up and say that it is not you with the power to change this place, nor is it I, but we. We as a whole, We as a people, We as a nation have the power to change this place for the better.
Thank you again.
Your humble supporter,
Just wanted to share with everybody that I had a great time Saturday night. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati and my wife and I went to the concert. Actually, I finally got to meet Bruce and the band after decades of being a big fan of the Boss. He said he was glad to meet me and had really enjoyed reading my blog on the Obama site...one of the best blogs he'd seen anywhere. In FACT, he went on to say how he had used some of the ideas from a recent blog of mine for a song that will be coming out on his next CD. It was impressive to know how influential I had been on the Boss and his songwriting...especially after being one of his biggest fans for so long.
Now, if you happen to talk to my wife about this, be prepared...she may tell you that, while we did see Springsteen and the band...we were sitting in section 138...row R. And, while we were in the same building with him (and roughly 9,000 other people), he was safely on stage and was otherwise nowhere near me. Did we talk to one another? Well...truth be told...he sang...and I sang along at times...but he actually may not have heard me because of all of those other people making noise. And that blog thing.....uh....well, I just "misspoke" about that, too. Sorry!
I'm not sure when we stopped using the words "lie" and "lying" and inserted words like "misspoke" and "misstatement" in their place. Is that really important, anyway? As far as Hillary Clinton and I are concerned...so what? Hell...get used to it folks and get over it.....it's in the past, anyway! "So I made a mistake. That happens. It proves I'm human, which you know, for some people, is a revelation."
We are all too tempted by the events of today that we can often lose sight of the future. All of us know what we do or don't do today will have an impact tomorrow...yet truly embracing that fact, rather than being distracted by more pressing concerns, can be tough. Whether it's the economy or the war...the trials of this campaign season...putting food on the table or struggling with health issues...making it to the next paycheck...or simply finding a paycheck....these are the daily matters which you know as well as I can distract us from a vision for the future.
All of us are a part of Senator Obama's campaign not simply because we seek a better present. We are also invested because we deeply desire an even better future...and know that it is still within our grasp. I have posted an event which I hope will speak to that desire we share...an event in which we all can participate as we are able...which will improve the world we live in now...will aid in a better tomorrow...and which will stand as a testament for our hope even after we are gone.
The event is entitled "Trees For Obama & A New Future." Please join me in the simple act of planting or donating a tree this Spring in recognition of Senator Obama's campaign and inspiration to us all...and as a way to improve the world we live in both now and for the future. This new beginning which we are sharing in this year...all of us...is worthy of a living reminder of our desire and efforts to stand up to the challenges of today...with hope and promise for a better tomorrow!
