Friend --After months of negotiations, the entire House and Senate will soon start debating the final plans for health insurance reform. You've called your representatives, but we can't stop there -- if the American people are going to drown out the D.C. lobbyists, we need everyone who supports reform to weigh in. So here's the plan:On Tuesday, October 20th, OFA volunteers will gather at "Time to Deliver" Call Parties in living rooms like yours across the country. We'll call friendly voters whose voices matter in this debate, talk to them about the President's plan, and ask them to call on their representatives to support reform. Our goal? 100,000 calls to Congress placed or committed to in a single day. It's an ambitious goal, but the stakes couldn't be higher -- and if we hit it, we cannot be ignored. The whole plan begins by finding a place for OFA volunteers to gather -- in Aurora and across the country. And that's why I'm turning to you.Can you host a Time to Deliver Call Party on Tuesday, October 20th?Hosting a call party is surprisingly easy. No special experience required, and we'll provide simple step-by-step instructions. If you can print out some call sheets and info about the President's plan -- and make sure volunteers have a comfortable place to sit -- you can host a successful Call Party. You can invite your friends, we'll invite other OFA supporters in your area, and together you'll have a great time while making a huge difference. If we can get 100,000 calls to Congress placed or committed to on a single day it will set a new OFA record -- and really shake up the debate in Washington. But it won't be easy. Everything hinges on finding volunteer leaders like you who are willing to open your doors and give supporters in your area a place to gather. Can we count on you? Please sign up to host a Time to Deliver Call Party on October 20th:http://my.barackobama.com/deliverThanks for making it happen,JeremyJeremy BirdDeputy DirectorOrganizing for AmericaPaid for by Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Committee -- 430 South Capitol Street SE, Washington, D.C. 20003. Case in point ... our insurance company, that supposedly covered us for our daughter's care, dragged us along with continual bait and switch tactics, repeatedly denied our claims, denied our appeals, and finally denied paying for $40,000 plus in health care for our daughter. For a lot of families that would have meant losing their home, becoming bankrupt, and possibly homeless. How does the free-market health care system help us or the millions of other families like us?

Friend --Last week, Republican Senator Jim DeMint made it pretty clear why the opponents of health care reform are fighting so hard. As he told a special interest attack group, "If we're able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him." Here's how the President responded:Think about that. This isn't about me. This isn't about politics. This is about a health care system that is breaking America's families, breaking America's businesses and breaking America's economy. And we can't afford the politics of delay and defeat when it comes to health care. Not this time, not now. There are too many lives and livelihoods at stake. With Congress only days away from finalizing their plans for reform, it's time to stand up with the President and fight back against this disastrous brand of old-style politics. So we need as many people as possible to publicly support the President's principles for health care reform and call on Congress to act. Before the first full votes in Congress, we'll publish the signatures in newspaper ads across the nation, to make sure your voice is heard.Watch President Obama's full response, then add your name in support of reform. Or if you've already signed, please forward this message to every one of your friends and neighbors so they can join you.The President is more dedicated than ever to passing health care reform that satisfies the three requirements he's been talking about for months: Health care reform must reduce costs, guarantee choice -- including the choice of a strong public insurance option -- and ensure all Americans have quality, affordable health care.If we do not reform our broken health care system this year, we will only shackle future generations with spiraling costs and deteriorating care. The cost of inaction is simply more than this country can afford. But the special interests who profit from the status quo won't go down without a fight. The ads, the smears, and the attacks -- targeting both President Obama and members of Congress who support reform -- will only get worse. So it's crucial that we show huge backing before Congress finalizes their plans this month.Stand with President Obama on health care reform:http://my.barackobama.com/hcdeclareThanks for standing up for change. Thanks,MitchMitch StewartDirectorOrganizing for AmericaPaid for by Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Committee -- 430 South Capitol Street SE, Washington, D.C. 20003. Friend --With Congress debating their plans for health care reform this week, building strong local support couldn't be more urgent. That's why, last weekend, Organizing for America volunteers went door-to-door asking neighbors to support the President's agenda for health care reform and to urge Congress to do the same.Next week, we're doing it again, and this time it has to be even bigger. Everything depends on finding folks like you willing to step up and host a door-to-door canvass event in your area.Hosting is surprisingly easy, and there's no experience required. Once you sign up, a friendly local organizer will be in touch to set you up with all the guidance and materials you need. Will you sign up to host a Health Care Canvass the weekend of July 18th or the following week?To host a successful canvass, all you need to do is find a location to start from (could be your home, could be a park, could be a community center), reach out to ask friends and neighbors to join you, and then hand out maps and fliers to volunteers to get them started. It's that simple. And don't worry, our local team will get you everything you need and walk you through it every step of the way.Every day, Congress is feeling tremendous pressure from Washington, D.C., special interests to back away from reform. But our representatives have their ears to the ground, and if we can show them that, neighborhood-by-neighborhood, block-by-block, we're building a movement to fight for health care reform, they'll find the political courage they need to stand up for what's right. So can we count on your help?http://my.barackobama.com/hceventhostThanks for making it possible,JeremyJeremy BirdDeputy DirectorOrganizing for AmericaPaid for by Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Committee -- 430 South Capitol Street SE, Washington, D.C. 20003. http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/07102009/watch2.htmlWendell Potter, who until recently was a Vice President at Cigna, appeared on Bill Moyers Journal this past Friday and gave an insider's view of the insurance industry's greed, callousness and cynical manipulation of our corrupt political system. This isn't just a clip of a couple of minutes--it's about 31 minutes--but IMO every minute of it is worth watching. No wonder we've never been able to reform health care in the U.S. Let's make this try the one that succeeds!Dale
Thanks to your support we continue to make progress. There are a few events coming up this week that lend themselves well to signature gathering. The Banks in Harmony Concert on Thursday July 16 takes place at Utah Park on S. Peoria St. at E. Mexico Ave. The band starts playing at 6:30 but people start gathering around 5:30 or 5:45. Duane and I have been at the concerts that have taken place so far and have done very well. We stop as soon as the band is introduced. Stay for the pop rock music of the Wendy Woo Band.Neither Duane or I can be there to collect signatures this week. Actually, I will be unavailable to do work on the campaign until July 20.The other event is KidSpree on Sat and Sun July 18 and 19 at Bicentennial Park at E. Alameda Ave. and S. Potomac St. from 10 am to 5 pm. There is a free shuttle bus that runs frequently from the southwest parking lot of the Town Center of Aurora (Aurora Mall). Park free in the parking lot near S. Abilene St. north of E. Exposition Ave. We are permitted to collect signatures inside the event area as long as we keep moving and don't have a booth. If you can attend any of these events, please coordinate with Duane Senn at dasenn@qwest.net or 303-364-7368.It is important at these events that you start off asking the person if they live in Aurora and then if they are registered to vote.
