It is a leisurely Sunday afternoon with the final leaves falling and the football game on the TV. It has been many a Sunday that we could use the word leisurely; or even think about a football game other than possibly the Steelers (or maybe the Broncos).
But, it is a new day. Barack Obama is our President-Elect all just seems better. We have a lot of work to do to get this country going in a better direction, but the right man is there to do the job. And, as you know, HE IS OUR PRESIDENT! We paid for him, we worked for him and now we celebrate with him. I know our house couldn't be much happier!
Thanks to all of you who helped make this possible. All those long Sundays walking up and down the hills of our little Westmoreland County towns. We came home at night feeling like we had skiied all day! But, now we can talk some time to watch a football game and wait for our next assignment.
We were in Denver. Colorado getting ready to go to work. Oh! A light commuter plane just hit a building in the World Trade Center. Simple as that, we went about our business of trying to get out the door. Then we looked a little closer at the tiny TV in our kitchen and said to each other. "That was no little plane! It would have just bounced off the building." Then the second plane came around the backside of World Trade Center and our lives were different. It was only 7am in Denver. Colorado. Where was our granddaughter? Where was our son?
Now we live in Pennsylvania and we have visited the Flight 93 site near Shankville, PA on the Fifth Anniversary of 9/11 on 9/11/06. It is a somber place in a quiet, open field. It is sad. Yet the Truth of what happened in the skies above Shanksville linger in the air. Heroism and Courage came out of the utter terror.
So as we remember This Day of 9/11, let us commit ourselves to finishing this task of honor.
It was 4:00 in the morning and Morning Joe and his crew were already broadcasting from a downtown Denver, Colorado Coffee Shop. There appeared to be a lot of excitement in the air and from what I hear from my friends in Denver -- that is true. There is a lot of excitement! The question is: How can we as grassroots supporters of Barack Obama and Joe Biden bring that excitement into the daily work that we do for the Campaign?
I heard in the Morning Joe broadcast, that Barack needs to "hug and touch" more people. I'm sure that would be one of the many ways that volunteers could help. We have the opportunity to "hug and touch" everyday. We are right here with the people who hurt and need a change in the way their lives are going. We can tell the young mother who has no health insurance and the infection on her leg is getting worse, that the health insurance program that the Obama/Biden Health Care Plan offers has more substance for her than the total lack of a plan than our opponent offers. We can tell the unemployed father whose job went out of the country that the Obama/Biden Economic Recovery Plan will bring new jobs that bring real hope back to our unemployed AND underemployed.
Oh, this is real! "We are ten years away from an economic disaster that will change the face of our country, UNLESS THERE IS A CHANGE," said Joe Scarborough. Whether you like Joe or not --in this case he speaks the truth. Joe, you are scaring me! Well, scared we need to be! We need our volunteers to catch on to the urgency of our times and transmit, person to person and face to face, this message of true change and direction in the matters of the country. Barack and Joe is our best and most appropriate answer. Tell it!
Now we have the opportunity to watch Barack Obama speak. Together in a large gathering, could there be support in numbers? Southern Armstrong County and Northern Westmoreland County will sponsor this event and invite friends, neighbors and supporters and party together at the VFW, 128 Market Street, Leechburg, PA 15656 on the evening of August 28th starting at 9:00 pm.
Refreshments, large screen TV and good conversation with friends and Barack Obama supporters will highlight this most special gathering. On the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's great speech "I Have a Dream" we will witness yet another great speech for the ages from another great American, Barack Obama.
LIVE FROM MILE HIGH STADIUM, DENVER, COLORADO! SENATOR BARACK OBAMA!
The Campaign to elect Barack Obama is well underway. Teams are being formed and we are building and growing. We are also preparing students who are off to college to be ready to fit into Barack Obama groups on their campus.
The Democratic National Convention in Denver is two weeks away and on Thursday night, August 28th Northern Westmoreland County (PA) will be ready to welcome in new volunteers and ready them to get out to the voters in their neighborhoods. There is a real excitement to be a part of this history making time in our lives. Don't miss it.
The summer is winding down. Can you feel it? The days are getting shorter, there is more dew on the grass in the mornings, there are a couple of leaves on the high part of the trees changing and you are really tired of cutting the lawns and cleaning the pool. So, let's take a nap.
NO -- NO! There is a lot we can do before the Convention in Denver. Northern Westmoreland County (PA) for Obama is digging deeper into Barack's position on the Issues and fine tuning our Team Roles. Our Field Organizer, GREG FULCHINO is in place and eager to meet all of our Team members. Greg was an Obama Fellow in Pittsburgh all Summer and originally comes to us from the Boston, Massachusetts area. Our Team Leaders are MEL and JUDY BAWINSKE who have worked for the election of Barack Obama in the Pennsylvania and Kentucky Primaries and who are now proud Pennsylvanians after moving from Denver, Colorado two years ago. (They were also Republicans until January 2008) CATHY HENRY is our Voter Contact Coordinator and JOHN CANTINE and EILEEN KRYNOCK our Volunteer Coordinators. We are off to a fine start along with our Kids Group and up and coming College Group.
So, the Northern Westmoreland County (PA) Team is excited about meeting all of you at THE GRAND OPENING of the Greensburg Office, tomorrow afternoon 4:00 to 7:00. Let's all be there. We are not going to have a lazy end to the Summer!
Yes indeed, there are scare tactics being used in this bottom of the pond campaign. Scare tactics that make us really SCARED!
Scared-- Like fear that our economy will be going totally into the tank if we do not make a drastic change of leadership in this county. Scared-- Like fear that our son and his family will have a medical crisis while they are without health insurance. Scared-- Like fear that our dependence on foreign oil will continue until all of our nation's wealth is in the Middle East.
YES, there are a lot of things to be SCARED of --Like continuation of the same policies and leadership that have most of us where we are today. There is HOPE though --Barack Obama and the belief that there are genuine honest candidates who want to keep this Campaign focused on the REAL issues that concern us.
Grand Opening of the Barack Obama Campaign Office at 113 Main Street, Greensburg, PA will be held on Thursday afternoon, August 7th from 4:00 - 7:00. We can all meet Bobby Ackerman, our Area Field Organizer and the rest of the Field Organizers who are in our area for the Campaign to help us get Barack Obama elected to the White House.
We will see you all in Greensburg on Friday where you can sign up for phone banking, meet Neighborhood Team Leaders and join a Neighborhood Team closer to your home, pick up supplies and otherwise have a good time.
LET'S HIT THE GROUND RUNNING!!
Grassroots organization in Pennsylvania is "unprecedented," reports Governor Ed Rendell speaking to MSNBC. Our new Pennsylvania State Director, Craig Schirmer believes that our 24 campaign offices in Pennsylvania and and approximately 700 Neighborhood Teams are the key to success for Barack Obama. Craig also describes our volunteer efforts as D-Y-I (Do it Yourself). And we can do this and we want to do this.
Our Pennsylvania Neighborhood Team, Northern Westmoreland County for Obama, is one of those approximately 700 Neighborhood Teams. Our tasks include organizing canvasses and phone banks, voter registration, church visits and faith outreach, recruitment and organizing house meetings. Many of these tasks we are already doing. Northern Westmoreland County for Obama currently includes 22 districts within Allegheny Township. Avonmore, Bell Township, East Vandergrift, Hyde Park, Oklahoma, Vandergrift, Washington Township and West Leechburg. This is a BIG assignment and we are ready to GROW and include more volunteers and see our man, Barack Obama as our President of Hope and Change!
Our new Westmoreland County Field Office is now open and we are ready to get to work. We have been notified that the new off is located at:
113 Main Street
Greensburg, PA
We look forward to being a part of getting this new office up and running with office furniture, chairs, telephones, supplies, sweat and blood! It is time to get serious and get fired up!
See you there!
THE GREATEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD! The Neighbor to Neighbor Walk Lists are now online and ready to go. We printed our first list yesterday and began visiting our neighbors. The list was easy to understand, but not without some frustrations. A lot of voters are not at home, some have moved and the addresses are not always correct. These glitches are being worked out and the more we use Neighbor to Neighbor the more we help solve the problems.
The Campaign has found that going door to door is the most effective way of bringing new people into the process of voting and volunteering and contributing. Neighbor to Neighbor allows us to find lists of undecided voters in our area. We can then go door to door and talk to them about Barack Obama and the campaign. We even came upon people who were not on our list and wanted to talk, vote for Barack or volunteer to help. An easy way is also provided to report back to the campaign the pertinent and valuable information we find.
Northern Westmoreland County for Obama will be getting together very soon to have discussion and training on Neighbor to Neighbor. We want to get started very soon so please check in to this site for up and coming meetings at our 'headquarters". In the meantime, check out Neighbor to Neighbor on your "Dashboard". Please tell us what you think.
Many in and around Northern Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania joined together to discuss Issues of Barack Obama's campaign for President that are closest to them and write their positions to be presented to the Democratic national Platform Committee. This process will go on for two more weeks before the final Democratic National Platform is formulated. There were lively discussions that all seemed to wind back to the issue of Ethics. We NEED a President who we can trust. Barack Obama is the person we can trust!
Voters in Northern Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, your thoughts on these issues are still welcomed. Please add to the comments under this Post or email us directly at pappom@gmail.com. We would be glad to make additions to the positions that we are presenting.
Thank you so much to all who came to the Listening to America Meeting and all who made it a big success!
Hi there:
If you are just now reading post, it is not too late to attend the LISTENING TO AMERICA: PLATFORM for CHANGE. This is an event brought to you by NORTHERN WESTMORELAND COUNTY for OBAMA. We are, the grassroots Democrats, participating in the writing of the NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM of 2008. PLEASE COME and be part of this historic process. See "Events" ZIP 15613 and sign in.
PLEASE COME and join the cars on the front lawn! Let's make it three rows this time!
The Democratic National Platform is an official statement of the Democratic Party's position on issues. We, the grassroots--the people who actually live the issues--are contributing to the 2008 Platform. That's you and me. NORTHERN WESTMORELAND COUNTY for OBAMA wants YOU to be a part of the most democratic process and Barack Obama is LISTENING.
We are over dependent on foreign oil. This fact has a far reaching impact on everything from gas prices, to jobs, to our national security and to our very quality of life. Please come to our meeting on July 20th, Sunday at 6:00 pm. Details can be found under "Events" My.BarackObama. The discussion regarding the devastating impact of foreign oil dependency will be just one of our Platform topics. Tackling this issue is possibly one of our most urgent tasks. We need to have our best and most talented dive into this problem immediately through development of wind power and its investment into the rural economy, natural gas and bio-fuels and their impact on cleaner energy and by getting a hold of domestic energy alternatives and new technologies.
And there are other issues: Health insurance and health care, Social Security and retirement, Education, Sportsmen concerns and ethics. Do you have other issues that concern you? Please come and be a part of history!
Yes, it is our individual opportunity to be a part of the political process. If you have not already signed up to attend "Listening to America: Democratic Platform for Change", please check in to "Events" and join Northern Westmoreland County for Obama for their input to the Platform. Already nearly 20 writers are coming. More issues need to be covered and maybe one of your concerns will then be addressed. It is vital that as many of us as possible take part in this historic process.
