Call it a sign of the times. Despite his stellar record in the community as both a physician and activist for the needy, there is a vocal minority with extreme views in the blogosphere and media who want to distort and tarnish the good name of Dr. Esam Omeish. Read below a few direct comments made by a variety of well-respected community leaders and professionals about Dr. Esam Omeish as they defend his character: Virginia's Governor Tim Kaine: "Dr. Omeish is a respected physician and community leader." Father Jerry Creeden, : "Words of support from the Faith community, the Commonwealth (of Virginia) is for all of us." Rabbi J. Moline: "I am sorry that the juggernaut of prejudice" "I would welcome your defense. This is an extended hand from my community, let us do something together." Attorney Vic Glasberg: "You have handled with grace the indignity visited upon you. What you said was understandable and suitable for its context, and its misuse is regrettable and an injury to us all." Kate Hanley, Virginia Secretary of State: "Dr. Omeish is one of two elected from his peers from among more than 300 physicians, and he was the recipient of the "Outstanding Physician of the Year Award" for 2007 in Alexandria Hospital". Many doctors, nurses, hospital administrators, and patients who know Dr. Omeish personally also felt compelled to write their words of support for him. Below is just a couple of statements exemplifying how strongly his colleagues support him. Dr. L. Kerness: "I have known you (Dr. Omeish) as a caring and skilled surgeon, a gentleman, and a family man. It is hard to imagine you as anything other that a pacifist. Rest assured that I, and all those I have spoken to, have not waivered in our support of you as a person and a surgeon, and are not swayed by media hype and political propaganda. I wish you and your family peace during this stressful time, and remember that this too shall pass." E. Bushmiller, RN, CNOR, B. Engler, BSN, CNOR, C. Hortman, RN: "The one thing we would like to make clear is the commitment Dr. Omeish has to democracy and more importantly peace. He is a committed family man, hard working and capable surgeon, and a good person. He is knowledgeable in basic tenets of the three Abrahimic religions and points to areas where they intersect, always searching for common ground. We are upset and disheartened with what has happened to Dr. Omeish. We wish to speak up on his behalf." Today, as Virginians and residents of the 35th District celebrate Earth Day, it’s a great opportunity to take this time and reflect where we are and where we are going in terms of responsible, renewable green energy that both protects our environment and provides jobs for the Commonwealth. As we look to the future of our families, community and Commonwealth, we can all agree that strengthening Virginia’s economy, protecting our precious natural resources and building an exciting, renewable energy future will be the key to ensuring a healthier community in which to live and work. The future of our environment is an issue which transcends politics. However, as delegate it would be my responsibility to fight for policies which protect our environment, strengthen our economy and compliments the efforts people make on a daily basis to make Virginia a better place. According to a recent poll, 76% of Virginians think that global warming is real and will adversely affect our environment. Capitalizing on alternative energy sources and investing in smart, green technology that taps into local talents and resources will help ensure Virginia becomes and remains a leader in the stewardship for a better community for us all.
The campaign could use your help so please sign up today to volunteer! Any amount of time will help us reach our goal. After all, TOGETHER WE CAN!

Recent polls show us down by 1 point. We have VA within our grasp. I've been out every weekend canvassing neighborhoods in western FFX county.
Where have you been? Please help us all by donating a few hours of your time. We've got offices in every nook and cranny of NoVA.
I just found out today that an Obama campaign office has opened less than a half mile away from me. I am very excited about this, as I will have many opportunities to volunteer.
I signed up for a voter registration even this Saturday, and plan on trying to get over there every weekend until the election.
I don't know how I missed the news about the office opening, guess I was just out of the loop. But its only been open for 2 weeks, and I have a lot of time to make an impact.
For anyone who wants to join me, it is located at 14260 Centreville Sq., Centreville VA.
Up early watching "Morning Joe" on MSNBC to get my early day political hot topics (and because Mika is gorgeous) they were hitting the New York Times article about the Detroit campaign event where two Obama staffers did not allow two young females with Muslim headscarfs to sit behind where he was going to be speaking. This was not a good way to start the morning off, especially because he had to immediately apologize for the incident and I believe that he knew nothing about it. I am going to say that he does not pick who sits where or wears what behind him, that is up to event staffers and volunteers. But I'm going to go into a broader issue.
Let's say that those two females did sit behind him, they what would be on the front page of blogs like Michelle Malkin and other right-wing blowhards who have repeatedly accused him wrongly of being Muslim (which wouldn't matter either way), or repeatedly calling him by his middle name only or saying he worships the Koran like terrorists around the world do. For the last year idoits on the right have spent their time painting Barack Obama as someone he is not is an attempt to put fear in the hearts of Americans who do not know any better or only follow negative media attention, too busy to open the book and actually read the pages inside, rather just reading the cover and having their minds made up. I was thinking to myself what kind of BS the right-wing blogs would have invented if they were seen sitting behind him because there would have definelty been something. (Sadly to say)
I personally believe that those volunteers did intentionally prevent those females from sitting behind Barack. But the malicious intent that is going to be presented on this is not correct. I think those volunteers were simply responding to the incredible amount of hatred that has been put on the Obama campaign since he started this historic journey. Obama was correct in apologizing for the actions of his staffers which was wrong. But, they are human. You can't expect them to be immune from the pressures that everyone in that campaign has been facing. If anything I believe it demonstrates to the right wingers out there that their tactics are beginning to work and some people NOT ALL within the campaign have those thoughts in the back of their mind! The question now is how will WE as a whole respond?
In response to the numerous lies, distortions and other things spread about Barack Obama over the last year he has responded with a website titled www.fightthesmears.com. Obviously, it has to be done since we learned in 2004 that not aggressively attacking the smears, lies and distortions usually hinder the candidate who they are against. This here is a website, along with www.barackobama.com can really show what type of candidate Obama is.
Lastly, to be honest I've seen a lot of the stupid e-mails that have been put out and even some of the things that I have seen on this website are amazing. But, what is even more amazing is that I run into people who actually believe them!!!
Last night on Olbermann the new polls came out showing a solid bump for Barack, not too bad. I am curious as to why these articles are still popping up from "The Hill.com" titled: "Hispanic Dems warn Obama he risks losing Latinos." Of course I found it linked through a right-wing website but as I read through it I did start pondering.
Clearly, the Hispanic votes was largely behind Hillary Clinton throughout the primary seasson, I don't think anyone can deny that. The polls last night showed that Hispanics were beginning to move towards Barack but given the fact that John McCain has been a pretty favorable politician towards issues related to immigration could this article be of some truth? Would the Democats/Independent Hispanics actually go towards McCain?
Something I'm pondering!

Yesterday Virginia had it's primary elections for the upcoming Congressional races where the Democrats will be working to expand their margin within the Congress. It was exciting to read that while they are all intensely focused on their respective races they are even more excitied about getting Barack Obama elected. Being from Virginia I know that the Commonwealth is definetly within play as more and more competitve Democrats are popping up on tickets, to include one (Gerry Connelly) who is going to probably take over a seat held by a Republican (Tom Davis). All in all, we are starting the summer off right! (Even though it has been awfully hot the last few days here.)
As I browsed through the morning news articles today I came across one from the upcoming Newsweek titled "Iraq, Anything Not to Go Back." While it is a short piece it highlights something that has been overlooked by many people, except the families and soliders who are suffering these potentially deadly injuries.
While the article is short it highlights where this country has gone since our invasion of Iraq and the total mismanagement of the war. Our pround servicemen and women are self inflicting injury on themselves; what more can be said. I strongly doubt it is their mental state since it takes a good deal of though and planning to carry out some of these actions. This last line of the piece really strikes me saying they hope that they talk to someone instead of inflicting self harm. I would think that they have already thought of this but know what the answer is going to be, sadly.

Obama volunteers are doing amazing things all across this country. The power of a committed group of people has been proven over and over again. Barack Obama's call to service has been answered. People are getting involved like never before.
It is time to direct this energy against the larger problems we face.
People are losing their homes, gas prices are rising, and jobs are moving elsewhere. These are not just political talking points. They are real and immediate problems.
As Obama says, we cannot wait to deal with these problems. We can't wait even until November.
That is why I am asking for your help. The same way we have registered hundreds of thousands of new voters and raised hundreds of millions of dollars, we can move the people and money neccessary to deal with these challenges. Government assistance and tax money are not needed. You can already see this happening with the environmental issue. Everyone is going green.
You can see some preliminary ideas for dealing with current crises at www.truefinance.com but I'm sure you can tell from the site that my technical skills are out of date.
What I need now is skilled web developers to help build online tools that will organize people around these issues like MyBO has organized them around the election.
If you are willing to help please email me at emf@truefinance.com
Thank you, and keep fighting the good fight.
Barack Obama may be a great leader, but the real power behind his campaign is the inspiration he is giving people to get involved and make a real difference in this world.
Obama Works is a loosely organized group of volunteers dedicated to making a difference in the community. Go to whyobamaworks.com to see what they are up to then join in or come up with your own ideas. We can fix any problem if we work together.
