A massive nonpartisan campaign to mobilize Hispanics to register to vote could create a surge of Latino voters, especially in several swing states, which would likely benefit Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
John McCain, still on the fence whether to back the proposed $700 billion bailout of Wall Street, huddled this morning with a panel of business executives, including former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.
The Associated Press reports that McCain said he wanted to discuss "how we can make sure that the American people regain confidence on Main Street so that they can regain their confidence in Wall Street and in Washington."
The Republican nominee has laid out principles he wants included in the bailout, including greater transparency, CEO accountability, and more oversight. The latter includes an independent board that McCain has suggested that Romney could be on.
Romney, a former GOP primary rival who made a fortune running Bain Capital, has been one of McCain's most vocal advocates on economic issues.
The AP says others talking to McCain this morning were former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers, and John Thain, the CEO of Merrill Lynch before it was bought by Bank of America earlier this month in one of a series of buyouts and bankruptcies on Wall Street.
Conspicuous by her absence was former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, who has been off the public stage since saying last week neither McCain nor running mate Sarah Palin were qualified to be a CEO. She has also been problematic because McCain is saying the buyout package should not include excessive "golden parachutes" for CEOs, when she received $45 million in stock and severance pay when she was forced out in 2005.
Tuesday, however, McCain stood behind Fiorina saying he admires and respects her and calling her a "role model to millions of young American women."
There are reports that McCain and Democratic rival Barack Obama might skip the vote in Congress, and reports that Democrats in Congress won't support the bailout plan unless McCain does because they don't want to give him a campaign issue.
I find it rather odd that we spend nearly 12 billion a month in IRAQ on behalf of one people's 'DEMOCRACY', when the population in Iraq is just over 28 million people and yet we have an estimate of 18 - 20 million illegal immigrants living in our own country and ignore their rights and issues of personal freedom and have and do not try to support the democracy here in America?
I respect a month for any culture. But I do hope when Barack Obama is elected President he will change the way we treat the people who come here with a dream in their pocket, and common hope in their hearts.
Love and Peace
How Cuba will determine the 2008 Election.
Whether you are pro-Cuba or anti-Cuba, the debate may continue for centuries. One thing is certain. The nearly fifty year old, U.S. Embargo on Cuba has not worked, does not work and will not work. In stating so, we are not acknowledging, supporting or condoning Cuba’s current government.
We are saying it’s time for some of America’s voters, politicians and media to evolve with Cuba, perhaps more than any other issue. It could be said; how politicians act and vote towards the five decade old failed U.S. policies with Cuba is a clear reflection on their character.
We are saying that continuing the anti Cuba embargo policies is a clear reflection of a persons character. Whether running for President of the United States, Senate, Congress or any government leadership position; a person should demonstrated the ability to change course, try new directions and see different points of view. Especially if the policy they supported has failed for fifty years.
The anti-Cuba politicians, lobby and community is a small percentage of all populations, including the Cuban population itself. Yet the anti-Cuba movement has controlled the presidency of the United States and both political houses; including this elections Republican candidate John McCain for nearly fifty years. John McCain is anti-Cuba, while Barack Obama is pro-Cuba.
Why would any politician, business person and human continue enforcing on themselves, and worse others; a failed Cuba policy that the majority of people in America, the world and mostly the island of Cuba itself do not want? See the Election 08 FREE CUBA FILM SERIES and you will find out.
Then it’s up to you to decide when you cast your vote on “Election Moment”, if you are voting for character.
Election moment is the truest moment in any election when you, the voter stand there in the privacy of your own mind right before you vote. Only you will know if you cast a vote for character, and only you can determine the issues that reflect a person’s character. Cuba is one of those clear character issues.
Election 08 FREE CUBA FILM SERIES, is committed to bring the real Cuba to America. We’ve selected three diverse films that provide audiences with a modern day love story set in Havana, Cuba. A film that gives you a glimpse into the future with the childhood version of The Buena Vista Club, and lastly, an impacting documentary that brings to life, the hidden true history of Cuban terrorism, the U.S. Politicians directly related to Fidel Castro who continued to master mind the anti Cuba movement in the U.S. and the political families who continue to enforce their historically failed policies against Cuba on the world through violence, economics and political warfare.
Will you vote for a person who is pro-Cuba and promises to create a powerful future for America uniting the world.
Or will you vote for a person who is anti-Cuba and promises to bend history to make sure America stays the current course isolating the world.
Only you will know on your “Election Moment.”

WASHINGTON - The House Judiciary Committee has voted to hold former White House strategist Karl Rove in contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena to testify.
Voting along party lines Wednesday, the committee said Rove broke the law by failing to appear at a July 10 hearing on allegations of White House influence over the Justice Department, including whether Rove encouraged prosecutions against Democrats.
The committee decision is only a recommendation, and it was unclear whether Speaker Nancy Pelosi would allow a final vote.
Rove has denied any involvement with Justice Department decisions, and the White House has said Congress has no authority to compel testimony from current and former advisers.

Dear MoveOn member,
MTV just started accepting political ads. And the first political ad that millions of young people will see is a negative attack on Barack Obama—saying he's "worse than a flip-flopper" and accusing him of no longer being against the war.1 It's outrageous.
The Republicans' strategy is clear: kill the hope that's brought millions of new young voters out of the woodwork.
We can't let that happen. And as it turns out, we've got a funny, positive, hopeful way to fight back.
The "funniest ad" award winner in our Obama in 30 Seconds contest is a perfect counterpoint to the cynicism-mongering ad on MTV. Plus, it was made by actor (and MoveOn member) Rider Strong.
We just found out that we can run this ad on MTV and Comedy Central (as their first political ad ever) for $150,000. If 6000 of us contribute $25, we can do it. Can you check out the ad below—and if you like it, will you chip in to get it on the air?

http://blog.nj.com/njv_ivette_mendez/2008/07/latinos_invite_to_the_nj_polit.html
As posted on the blog above - I thought NJ Latinos would be interested:
"And I'm not taking a single Latino voice for granted in this campaign."
So said Sen. Barack Obama in his Sunday speech before the National Council of La Raza in San Diego.
It's not a groundbreaking or a terribly original statement. Politicians say it all the time when they are in the throes of a campaign. And based on all the recent headlines in the news, there's a lot of excitement about Latino voters and the presidential race.
Except, it appears, in New Jersey. Or if there is any excitement, the invitation to Latinos to join the party appears to have gotten lost in the mail.
One high-profile Latino delegate who was in heavy demand when Hillary was still in the picture is puzzled that the phone has been silent since the New York senator dropped out of the race. Not one call from the Democratic party asking if perchance there's any interest in switching allegiance to the Obama camp.
You think there's an assumption that New Jersey's Latinos will toe the line?
Sadly, a lot of us (and I mean Latinos) aren't surprised. Why would this year be any different from other years in New Jersey?
Here's how it's worked in the past: Someone is running for, let's say, statewide office. The candidate and his peeps put together the framework for a successful campaign including programs to reach out to the various constituencies. At some point, they realize that, uh oh, they better hire someone to run the Latino base program. That person is hired and then the fun begins as he or she fights to get some attention in that campaign.
As one Latino political operative told me: "Now campaign 'base programs' are important because they provide a bridge between a constituency and the elected. However, too often candidates look to set up these programs late and rely on them instead of building a relationship with the community. The issues that affect our community are not exacerbated or fixed during election time, and so the relationship should not simply exist during that time."
Now we all know that Latinos are certainly not an insignificant number here in the lovely Garden State (and yes I know there are many folks reading this blog who wish it wasn't so). There are more than 1.4 million Latinos here and, as the Pew Hispanic Center points out, this represents 3% of all Latinos in the United States. The center says there are 588,000 eligible Latino voters in New Jersey, 3% of all U.S. Latino eligible voters.
That ain't chopped liver (or chopped bacalao for those of us who eschew meat). So what's going on here amigos?
It's obvious that Latinos don't have a real seat at the table (and my apologies for using this worn out phrase) - whether it be the Democrats or the Republicans. We're sometimes invited to sit for a while but when it's time for the grown-ups to talk, it's back out the door.
It's time for the New Jersey political leadership - both Democrats and Republicans - to wake up and smell the cafe con leche. It's time for a real and honest discussion with Latinos from around the state and the time is now.
And, by the way, Latino communities from around the state should be banging the drum loudly to make sure these discussions happen.
"The Latino community has the numbers to make a difference and send a message," said the political operative.
Agree. So then what are we waiting for? An invitation?
OUR CANDIDATE IS LOOKING MIGHTY GOOD ON THE WORLD STAGE. THEY SEEM TO LIKE HIM A WHOLE LOT. HE LOOKS MIGHTY PRESIDENTIAL TOO ME. HE HAS MADE ME PROUD. WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TEAM, THE RIGHT TRACK. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. AND GET OUR THE VOTE. (YES WE CAN)
RESTORATION OF THE AMERICAN DREAM, MEANS WE ALL HAVE TO ROLL UP OUR SLEEVES AND GET INVOLVED. THIS ELECTION, IS HISTORY IN THE MAKING. WE SHOULD ALL WANT A PIECE OF THIS PIE. AMERICA HAS BEEN SLEEP FOR TO LONG. THERE IS ENOUGH WORK FOR ALL WHO WANT TO GET INVOLVED. THIS CAN'T BE DONE BY ANY ONE PERSON. WE NEED EACH OTHER AS A COMMUNITY. AND AS A COUNTRY. YOU SNOOZE, YOU LOOSE. SO GET INVOLVED. GOTV. (YES WE CAN).
Houlio drives a ice cream truck everyday and passes down my street where my son eagerly awaits with his fists of nickels dimes and pennies. It is important to my son and many of the other kids in the neighborhood to see his truck and hear his carrousel music as they all run to the end of the block to wave.
Its also important for me to try to teach my son the value of money and to earn his money for his daily treat. So each day he will do something to earn 5 quarters and wait sometimes he will save it for something special but lately it goes to Houlio's ice cream truck. These days a few dollars hardly pays for Houlio's snow cone, so I always give Houlio a little extra to make it worth his trip which I am certain that it doesn't help, trying to imagine how much it cost to fill the ice cream truck's tank.
Houlio comes from Ecuador, and is living the American dream. He says this because times are bad in Ecuador and America at its worse is like paradise. Still he hopes for his children and is proud to have become an american citizen and doing his part to achieve his little piece of property and give his kids a good education. Houlio is struggling to raise his a family on two jobs, soon the truck will be put in park and he will be back to working for less than 7.00 an hour. Here in NJ that really doesn't go far at all. I asked Houlio to help me me with my spanish and in return I will help him with his english. I wish I could pay him but it would be worth it I quote Houlio, to learn english better. Especially for the children he said and smiled.
A red light goes off.. this example is exactly what Barack Obama is talking about in serving each other in the communtiy. “¡podemos!”
