Medicare was created 44 years ago to provide health insurance for Americans 65 and older. No American senior has been denied enrollment in Medicare or been denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions. No senior has had a Medicare policy terminated or been hit with premium increases designed to force him to forfeit his coverage. No senior has been denied his choice of physician or hospital. Between 1970 and 2009, the 65 and older population increased 100 percent, or 20 million, yet these additional seniors added nothing to the nation’s uninsured population. Government has served well those who have the greatest per capita share of serious health problems.
The major source of insurance for those under age 65 is private health insurance. Between 1970 and 2009, the under 65 population grew 47 percent, or 85 million Americans. During this period, the uninsured population grew 150 percent, from less than 20 million, to nearly 50 million, despite substantial increases in Medicaid enrollment, and the development of SCHIP to care for uninsured children. It is the failure of the private insurance system that has left one in six Americans uninsured.
I don’t fear government-financed healthcare. I most fear we’ll continue to put faith in the private health insurance system, hoping that doing the same thing we’ve always done will somehow produce a better result.

Today Reuter reports Bryan Whitman, Pentagon spokesman of entering the 'lie parade' we knew so well from the Bush era.
In particular he claims that "...that news organization (Daily Telegraph' : Thursday's Telegraph quoted retired U.S. Army Major General Antonio Taguba, who conducted a 2004 investigation into abuse at Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison, as saying the pictures showed "torture, abuse, rape and every indecency.") as lying.
If it all was a lie, then why don't you come out on the open, and give the public access to those pictures ?
The newspaper said at least one picture showed an American soldier apparently raping a female prisoner while another is said to show a male translator raping a male detainee.
Others were said to depict sexual assaults with objects including a truncheon, wire and a phosphorescent tube.
In an interview with the New Yorker magazine published in 2007, Taguba was quoted as saying that he saw a video of a male American soldier in uniform sodomizing a female detainee.
Let me just say this one thing : "I do not have a doubt about the authenticity of this report."
And to make the 'Daily Telegraph' look like a stupid school Boulevard paper does not serve the purpose.
If you do not come out with all the truth, and clean up the past, public opinion on your presidency stands to be tarnished.
We need answers, and we need them for good.

Special Olympics athletes, volunteers and supporters will join representatives from across the country and our Armed Forces in the historic parade down Pennsylvania Avenue following President-elect Obama's swearing-in ceremony on the steps of the Capitol.
"I am honored to invite these talented groups and individuals to participate in the Inaugural Parade," said President-elect Obama. "These organizations embody the best of our nation's history, diversity and commitment to service. Vice President-elect Biden and I are proud to have them join us in the parade."
Organizations wishing to participate in the parade submitted an application to the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee (AFIC), which then assisted the Presidential Inaugural Committee in reviewing all of the groups' applications. All told, 1,382 organizations applied to participate, setting a new standard for interest in marching in the parade.
Upon hearing its selection, Special Olympics made the Inaugural Parade part of its Global Law Enforcement Torch Run(r) and the parade participants, a team of Special Olympics athletes, law enforcement officials who serve as guardians of the flame, and other supporters will carry the Flame of Hope for all to see.

Now that the campaign is over for now, is there any way we can transfer this blog atmosphere, fundraising, and involvement to our state's party web site?
This next step is what we need to transfer this success down the ticket to statewide and local offices too. We did very well these last few years under Chairman Howard Dean to be sure, but we need to bring Web 2.0 to every state now. It won't be long before the Republicans catch on and do theirs. Particularly true for the GOP in the states they are still dominant in.
If we don't transfer this into 50 state social networks, activism, and fundraising they will be there on the state and local level while we are still on the national level with this. Internet technology can be brought up to speed in a heartbeat. Building an audience takes months, not necessarily years.
I ask you, how can we turn Nebraska more blue?
We have had Democrats as Senators and Governors. We have had two women of each of the parties run for Governor, a national first over 20 years ago. We adopted the unicameral legislative system in the 1930s. We have a populist tradition from early the last century.
Nebraska should be more competitive politically. We can make a larger area beyond the one Omaha based congressional district. Lincoln alone voted as Democrat as Omaha and usually does so. Saline County and Thurston County often go more Democrat than Republican.
We need to make a 93 county election in 2012, that is far more receptive to Democrats than ever before. We need a David Axelrod and David Plouffe type of political expertise to work this state, but with a unique knowledge of the history of the state and the needs of our people. A connection with the people here that would make the President an insider, because he is in many ways. A mother from this region, a life that experienced Illinois, and a humble start.
I alternate between painful shyness and strength, guts, and determination. Always have. There are times where I see myself in politics. Barack Obama is the first time since 1984 that I got involved in a campaign and the first time in my life that I donated to any presidential campaign outside of a campaign button.
I often pour over the city plans of our area, and find plans of other areas to be as interesting. It is not my work, but I love the dream. I love to see what could be. I love to imagine greater sophistication and a high tech future. Mass transit making distances ever closer.
What does my future hold? Do I become a city council member, a governor, a state senator?
I want a change in Nebraska. I crave a state that sees both sides of politics, where no one party rules supreme. A state that candidates have to visit many times in person because we could go either way. A state where the high tech merges with the farm and city.
I want this for our state. How do we make it happen?
Nebraska makes history! Forever in our nation's history, there will be a blue dot in Nebraska by the great Missouri River for Barack Obama for the 2008 national election.
For the first time since 1991 when the state law was implemented, Nebraska's split of 3 of the 5 electoral votes by congressional districts will be used. One electoral vote, by winning the Omaha based 2nd Congressional District, will be awarded to Barack Obama while the other 4 electoral votes go to John McCain. This is an unofficial result, pending the count of provisional ballots and official certification.
I am proud to be in a state that is not afraid to try new things. We are the nation's only state with a unicameral legislature and now we are the first and only state that has split their Electoral College vote for President in the modern era.
The last state to split its electoral votes for President was Michigan in 1892 between Benjamin Harrison and Grover Cleveland. Several states have flirted with similar systems in the early 1800s, including Kentucky, Maryland, and North Carolina. It has been about a century since states began abandoning the system as political parties who dominated various states pushed for the winner take all system.

The Omaha World-Herald has just broken the story that the Obama/Biden ticket succeeded in winning the electoral vote from the Nebraska’s Second Congressional District by beating McCain/Palin by 1,260 votes. Tonya moved to Omaha after living for a time in California and Washington, D.C., where many of her family still live. She works full-time at Baker’s grocery store in Omaha.
Back in August, when Campaign for Change organizers arrived in Omaha, Tonya was one of the very first people in the office, ready to help. For weeks, Tonya spent almost as much time making phone calls for Barack as she did at the store; and she did all of her work for the campaign as a volunteer.
When Hillary Clinton came to rally for Barack two weeks before Election Day, Tonya was there to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Today, she’s working to set up and manage staging locations for get-out-the-vote efforts across the Second Congressional District.
“This has been great,” she said. “I’m planning to finish this all the way through November 4. For me, this has been an awesome experience.”
Tonya hopes to become a community advocate for people with disabilities – she lives with cerebral palsy, and wants to show those around her what hope can mean in a single life.
“[People with disabilities] don’t have a voice. I’m living it. That’s going to give them some inspiration,” she says.
“Just like Barack being President.”
Tonya is courageous. She’s this campaign here in Nebraska. Everyone who has come out over the past 21 months is this campaign in Nebraska. Today, the thousands of hours you’ve spent on the phones and at the doors, every conversation you’ve had with your friends and neighbors about Barack – all of that comes down to today.
First, vote.
Second, remind everyone you know to vote.
Third, show up at any Campaign for Change field office, any time today, and help get out the vote. It’s going to be close in Nebraska’s Second Congressional District. Losing by 200 votes because there were 10 too few volunteers at the phones simply is not an option.
You can still vote early at the Douglas County Election Commission in Douglas County, or the Sarpy County Election Commission in Sarpy County. Early Voting ends at 4:30 p.m. today.
