1%, or 1 vote out of 100There have been 12 Presidential elections that were decided by less than a 1% margin; meaning if less than 1% of the voters in certain states had changed their mind to the other candidate the outcome of the entire election would have been different. More than half were decided by less than a 2% margin.
In 2004, 57,787 votes would have given us President Kerry. In 2000, 269 votes would have given us President GoreIn 1996, 575,515 votes would have given us President Dole.

=========="Squeakers"Ned PotterABC NewsSeptember 29, 2008How close have Presidential elections been? Closer, perhaps, than we ever guessed. Mike Sheppard, a grad student in statistics at Michigan State, has done a mathematical exercise that shows it.He ran a computer program to answer this question: "What is the smallest number of total votes that need to be switched from one candidate to another, and from which states, to affect the outcome of the election?"The answer: in some years, very, very few. Take a look at his analysis HERE. It shows the powerful interaction between the popular vote and the electoral college.[...]==========

content of my email to Michelle Obama:
Of extreme importance: Whoever - if at all – anyone reads this in the campaign offices:Barack Obama needs to know the following trend: Since beginning of this year, we have tracked voter opinions, energy and “swings”.Although we are only local in the State of Nebraska [physically], we speak daily to many from around the USand the World [of eual importance to any presidency to be accepted by other nations, not just their leaders] Since the past 2 days the mood is shifting, especially after the press conference from today: Barack gave a “careful” speech regarding the conditions to be met for the bail-out of 700 billion. The conditions they all agree with 100% - BUT, the opinion now is taking over that Barack sidestepped what he would do if those conditions are not met.Quote” then I will strongly urge that we go back to the drawing board...” This is NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE PEOPLE. People start to think that Barack is more concerned with his political image – versus showing“Backbone” without being afraid of possible future consequences on his now suggestions. People want “demands, a president that shows strong leadership even if it goes against theCampaign motto so carefully orchestrated by a team. People want to see a president that has STRENGTH, can stand alone with an opinion – if it is theRIGHT opinion, even opposing everyone else. Sadly to report, that people start to doubt if Obama is “strong enough”. This affects primarily the “swing voters” – THE MOST CRUCIAL PART at this point for Barack Obamato win the presidency. He ABSOLUTELY HAS TO STATE HIS STRENGTH, CONVICTION, HONEST WILL AND READYNESSTO EXECUTE IF NECESSARY – saying this with WORDS to the American people. That is what they need to hear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, they too want specifics from candidates – but Barack Obama still holds a slight different positionwith the people: his “hope and change” stimulation is still the core – But the movement at this time NEEDS TO have verbal reinforcement and AFFIRMATION direct from Barack’s mouth. BEFORE McCain has a chance to decide to play a maverick and declare some well thought out speechstating that it is he that is the forceful one. It is already a careful balance act, since McCain has achieved with his smear campaign to heavily erodeBarack’s “experience” sheet!!!!!! It does not take much currently and swing voters will clamor to McCain, if for nothing else but the war hero [which he in reality actually never was if you cared to research his record]. Thousand of soldiers deserve that title of hero far long before McCain would ever get on this list. But he is a ‘dangerous man’, with no real strength, honesty or conviction, except the one to hold on tohis job and give himself a crown before he dies. Please don’t be offended by my harsh words – truth is often harsh. Barack NEEDS to KNOW how people feel – the ones that not necessarily attend physically his speeches. It would be a great dis-service to him, to just speak pretty words and haze over the reality. He MUST become our next president – but he needs MORE then contributions – he need the peoples hearts andminds to believe that HE is the strongest of them all – i.e. fit to be the president, no matter what the task at hand. Please excuse my rather plain English for this email – but there is no time for fancy words. Yours with all my regards, Michele KrammerTheobamaradar ps: posting this content on the blog may not achieve any result to Barack getting such messages because none of the vital campaign managers seem to read posts here. It’s just a constant back and forth between “already” devout democrats and Obama supporters, as I am. Butjust hashing things over and over within our own circles does not make for great stride in the 4th quarter of the run to win the election. No offense - just reality.
Yours,
Michele

Write a 700 billion dollar check to bail out Wall Street? Are you kidding me? Wall Street got itself into this mess - the mortgage lenders got themselves into this mess - and the American taxpayers should NOT bail them out. Bailing them out will not lower healthcare costs, or save the mortgage crisis, or spur me to run out and spend a bunch of money to boost the economy. It will save the rich, and leave the rest of America paying their loan off.
Who is going to bail my husband and me and our two-year old daughter out of the fact that we currently own two homes because no one in our city seems to be able to sell theirs (including us), and now we're trying to pay two mortgages, not to mention the outrageous medical bills and prescription drug costs that our tiny family seems to rack up (we're still paying off our daughter's hospital bill from her birth over two years ago) and we're stuck in a situation that we're likely to be unable to escape?
With two full time jobs and a toddler to care for, we don't see room to get part time jobs, but might not have a choice. I may end up working at a local drugstore on the weekends (the only time I have to spend with my daughter and to take care of two homes), in order to pay for the prescription drugs that we need but can't afford. For myself alone, it costs our family around $600 per month for medication.
I don't know what we're going to do. And I sure as hell don't feel like lending any of my tax dollars to "struggling" multi-billion dollar companies. Let them walk in my shoes for a week, and I bet they'll want to start bailing ME out.
I've heard quite a bit of complaining from both sides of the fence in the last day or so when it comes to the tax plans of both presidential candidates. Generally, I think that people who complain about taxes or being taxed should gather some perspective and go live in a country where there is no stable government where no taxes are paid (other than ransoms, bribes and outright thievery), or move to a country like Sweden, with one of the highest tax rates in the world (but also some of the highest quality healthcare, schools and general public care).
I guess the way I feel is that I'm willing to give more of my money to our government if I am assured that it's being spent on taking care of everyone, myself, my children, your children, my neighbors - EVERYONE. Some of you might forget that if by chance you end up paying more taxes with Obama as president (which is unlikely, but still), you would end up paying less out of your own pocket to cover things like outrageous healthcare costs and insufficient social security benefits. Right now I'm giving a lot of money to the government and I'm not being very well taken care of, and neither are most people.
No, I don't think we should tax the living end out of wealthy Americans. Nor do I think the same tax rates should apply across the board. I do think that having a great deal of wealth can sometimes distort a person's ability to understand what it's like to make $15K a year, or less, and how taxes impact a person's ability to keep food on the table. A person making more than $603K per year isn't going to have trouble feeding their children if their taxes go up, even by $100K. But what it might do is help those who cannot afford to keep their children from being hungry by giving them less of the tax burden.
We trust in our government to spend our tax dollars wisely. I think most of us can agree that this is not happening right now. I believe we need to and that we should pay taxes and that our money should collectively serve the entire nation, to better our resources and ensure a good quality of life for all citizens. That hasn't been happening with Bush in office. I don't think it will happen with McCain in office. Maybe it won't even happen with Obama in office, but I think there's a better chance that it will. Don't we owe our country and its people the opportunity to at least try a new route? Four years is not forever, and if we don't like it, we have the power to change it.
Sometimes I think we're all trying too hard to "win" our side of the argument, and not trying hard enough to think about the bigger picture and the future of each one of us.
I'm more than a little insulted by the recent wailing and gnashing of Republican teeth over the comments Senator Obama made about the now infamous 'lipstick on a pig.' Did they honestly think that none of us listened to Senator Obama's presentation and who knew the entire context of the comment?
I find it amusing that this is coming from the campaign of the Senator who did not rebuke nor correct the woman who referred to Senator Clinton as a b***h.
Enough with the pots and the kettles, folks - let's get down to some serious discussions about the issues that REALLY impact women.
As you ponder the upcoming election, consider these numbers on the status of women in Nebraska, developed by the Institute for Women's Policty Research (www.iwpr.org) in their last group of studies in 2004:
* Nebraska ranks 13th in the nation for women's voter rgistration; we rank 17th for women's voter turnout
* Nebraska ranks 31st int he country for women in elected office
*Nebraska ranks 41st in the country for women's median annual earnings
*Nebraska ranks 44th in the nation for the ratio of women's to men's earnings; for the last report in 2000, Nebraska ranked 23rd, so the bottom dropped out!
*Nebraska ranks 3rd in the country for women's labor force participation - we have more women in the workforce but we're down in the bottom rungs of pay for women....what's up with that?
*Nebraska ranks 49th for women in managerial and professional occupations (positions that have better pay, better benefits, a career ladder); in 2000 for the last report, Nebraska ranked 42nd, so we lost ground.
*Nebraska ranks 36th in the nation for women's business ownership; in the previous report, Nebraska ranked 18th in the country....a precipitous drop!
If you don't think this year's election has anything to do with women, know this - it has everyting to do with politics and policy and how this country values and supports women.
This is my 'year of turning 60,' and I'm determined to make this one...as well as all the others that follow count. It's been a year of learning and transitions....both my husband and I lost our jobs last year, so this election will mean even more than the ones in which I've participated in the past.
There are a lot of things that happen when your income drops precipitously, when your health care turns into a COBRA and when you're back in the job-hunt at the ripe old age of 59.
This blog will explore some personal issues as they relate to campaign issues as well as the issues that impact women and women in Nebraska - that's the field I know, in which I have experience and the one I think gets short-changed in political and electoral discussions.
i'd like to get a running list of opinions of who you think he might pick... not whether it would be a good or bad choice. (i happen to believe he already has one chosen, just not acnnounced it, waiting for a moment when it does not get burried in the news under all the media on Obama! but who knows when that will be...)
my money is on Carly Fiorina as McCain VP choice. Has been for awhile, but seems she is getting more and more groomed and used as a "supreme, very visible surrogate", plus a woman on his ticket...
just my opinion, but its my best guess. not saying that it's a good choice, but "he"/they might think so!
love to get as many opinions from as many as possible before he announces it!
who do you think? will you add your thoughts?
And THNAKS FOR YOUR OPINIONS!
and be sure to tell your friends of this unofficial and mostly irrelevant but fun poll!
HOPE you have a have a great day and are FIRED UP!
Thanks for stopping by!

Obama went over sea why because McCain was sayin that Obama doesn't know what is going on over sea. So what did Obama do, he went over sea, why because people like McCain were crying and started things about Obama don't know nothing about forign policy or the war in Iraq. Obama went over sea to show people like McCain that he knows what going on over sea. Its sad because some Americans were cryin why is he there anyway, he should be here in his own country. Well its kinda hard when you have people talking about oh he don't know nothing. And then He try to show us he knows what is going on in this world people shut him down. It goes both ways America. Obama knows what he wants and he goin to get it, that day is gettin closer every day. And I can't wait for that day.
epitome of irony: when the "Mc-candidate" that is fighting for off-shore drilling and drilling in our National Forests was planning to visit an oil rig in the gulf for a "press/kodak moment" today, not only does the planet send Dolly, but there is a tugboat-oil tanker accident that sends a slick of "heavy oil" covering a stetch for 96 miles down the river and into the gulf!
So, does the planet have an opinion on our addicition to oil??
uh... HELLO!!
The New Yorker described Barry Blitt's work as lampooning of "scare tactics and misinformation in the Presidential election to derail Barack Obama's campaign.""The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama's right-wing critics have tried to create," Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton said."But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree," Burton added.
I think the idea that the Obamas are branded as unpatriotic [let alone as terrorists] in certain sectors is preposterous. It seemed to me that depicting the concept would show it as the fear-mongering ridiculousness that it is.
I've invited bloggers to commit to writing one post per week about Obama for the next 10 weeks. This will take us through the convention in Denver. Our guidelines are simply that the posts are positive and honest. The movement is building: already 25+ bloggers signed up, so that's at least 250 posts over the next 10 weeks, and more folks sign on everyday!
It would be great to get people who live in so-called "red states" involved with this project, since you may be most in need of Operation HOPE!. I'm hoping to have bloggers from every single stats in the United States... so I'm reaching out to the "red" states first!
Especially if you are already an active blogger, it doesn't take any extra effort. and your blog will probably get more traffic, since I'll be linking all the bloggers and promoting the event. If you're new to blogging, I can get you set up with you own blog in less than 5 minutes! so why not? John McCain recently announced that he, along with the RNC, has nearly $100 million cash on hand. This is a huge amount of money and a formidable force for the Obama campaign.
Because of this, I created my own fundraising campaign today. If you click the link below you can contribute directly to the Obama campaign.

Any donation at all you can give will help to elect Barack as our next president.
Thanks for your time and your efforts. YES WE CAN!

about 2 weeks ago I established a forum for all Obama supporters i.e. EVERYONE in here.
exactly 7 people registered out of - how many thousands?
One member has posted over 150 posts with little or no response!
What does it take for you people to come together and use the forum?
I mean, how much easier can it be to live post, live chat and interact then on the forum?
I did not install the forum because I have too much time on my hands or for my own personal ego -
