“Obama for America is looking to hire American Indian and Alaska Natives in key battleground states and states with large Native populations to help out with Native voter outreach among other things.
We will also be building a database of volunteers who may not be able to join full-time but who would be interested in helping spread Barack's message at key times such as at local events (powwows, etc) as well as the time leading up to the national election.
Interested parties should send a statement of interest and a resume to nwillis@barackobama.com, indicating whether they are interested in volunteering or applying for a field position in a particular state.

First Obama attack book in the works Jonathan Martin Mon Jun 23, 1:25 AM ET The same publisher that distributed the 2004 best-seller that took aim at John Kerry’s Vietnam service is planning a summer release of what’s scheduled to be the first critical book on Barack Obama. Conservative journalist David Freddoso’s “The Case Against Barack Obama” will offer “a comprehensive, factual look at Obama,” according to Regnery Publishing president and publisher Marjory Ross. But the book’s subtitle makes clear its perspective: “The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media’s Favorite Candidate.” Ross contends that the mainstream media has offered insufficient scrutiny of Obama and likens the goal of Freddoso’s book to that of “Unfit for Command,” the scathing assessment of Kerry’s war record that rocketed to No. 1 on The New York Times best-seller list. By highlighting negative aspects of Obama’s record and background, Ross says, Freddoso may compel others to offer more critical coverage of the Democratic nominee. “I think it’s critically important that the country gets a clear and honest view of who is running and what they stand for — warts and all,” Ross says. “With ‘Unfit for Command,’ like ‘The Case against Barack Obama,’ we believe the media has whitewashed the candidate.” But unlike the Kerry book, which was co-authored by a fellow Swift Boat veteran and focused exclusively on the Massachusetts senator’s actions in Vietnam and immediately after, “The Case Against Barack Obama” aspires to be a full-length political biography. Freddoso has taken a leave from his job with National Review Online — where he has written posts with titles such as “Obama’s Problem with the Truth” — to write the book, which is scheduled to be published on Aug. 4. A former writer for Human Events, Freddoso learned shoe-leather reporting at the knee of syndicated conservative columnist Robert D. Novak, for whom he worked as a political reporter on the “Evans-Novak Political Report.” Freddoso’s book is being promoted by the well-connected conservative public relations firm Creative Response Concepts. The firm, headed by former GOP operative Greg Mueller, also handled publicity for “Unfit for Command” and media relations for the 527 group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which in 2004 ran widely covered television advertisements featuring veterans who had served in Vietnam with Kerry, criticizing his conduct and character and claiming he had exaggerated his war record. Ross declined to share any exclusive details of Freddoso’s reporting since the manuscript hasn’t been filed yet, but said the 31-year-old journalist has material from Obama’s days in Chicago, Springfield, Ill., and Washington, D.C. In an effort to tarnish his cultivated image as a reformer, the book will examine Obama’s relationship with members of the Windy City’s vaunted politician machine, including Mayor Richard M. Daley. Freddoso also will probe Obama’s ties to more radical Chicago figures including the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, his former pastor at Trinity United Church of Christ, and William Ayers, the Hyde Park resident and former Weatherman. Moving to the national stage, the book will argue that Obama’s political views are far to the left of the mainstream. “He’s the No. 1 most liberal member of the U.S. Senate, and nobody has really examined his record,” says Ross. Unlike his primary rival Hillary Rodham Clinton, there is no canon of negative books about Obama. Thanks to his rapid rise on the national political scene, the two most influential books devoted to his life were written by Obama himself, who hardly counts as a disinterested observer. “Dreams From My Father” chronicles his youth and search for identity, while “The Audacity of Hope” is a more political tome, detailing his issue positions. Aside from these two books, the only other substantive volume on Obama is Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendell’s “From Promise to Power,” published in 2007. Also due out this summer is a mostly positive look at “The Faith of Barack Obama,” by the best-selling author of “The Faith of George Bush.” And a critical analysis of the Democratic nominee, called “The Obama Nation,” will be published on Simon & Schuster’s Threshold Editions imprint and is also due out in August. The book is by Jerome Corsi, who helped Kerry critic and Swift Boat Veterans for Truth co-founder John O’Neill write “Unfit for Command.” Says Ross, "The more people fall in love with a candidate, the more they need to know their track record and their real stand on issues."

I found this a very interesting letter. I am imagining what a wonderful impact Obama will have on the world when he is elected President of the United States. In the Spirit for Obama 2008, TGirl71

June 20, 2008 SIR: It is no longer news that Barack Obama has set another first in the history of America. Indeed America is a land of dreams those who dare to dream. Having become the first black Presidential candidate in the history of the United States, I reckon the sceptics are already having a rethink. Perhaps Obama may indeed go all the way and become the first African American to occupy the White House. But wait a minute, will it still be called White House? With an Obama President in America, the following should be expected: The Ancient city of Ile-Ife which prides itself as the cradle of the Yoruba/Black race will quickly honour Barack with a chieftaincy title, saying his roots can be traced to Ile-Ife with his ancestors family name being "Obamuyiwa" and that the ancestors later migrated to Nyagoma Koyelo village in Kenya but pronounciation changed the family's name to Obama. You may wonder where I got this brain-wave from. Afterall whilst former Governor Odili was still in office in Rivers State, he received a honorary chieftaincy in Ile-Ife and his ancestral roots were traced to the Odilambe family in the ancient city of Ile-Ife who migrated to Rivers State and changed their names to Odili. How amusing. Our Ndigbo brothers - the home-movie producers in Iweka Road, Aba will definitely enjoy a boost in sales of the newly produced film Barack my Love or Obamania and the sorts. These will be blockburster movies hitting the streets after the swearing in of the president. Nigerian names register will start featuring birth-names like Barack Olawale, Obama Bello, etc afterall Nigerians now bear Clinton Peters, Clinton Nnaemeka ...etc. Rememeber a Nigerian Senator Ayo Arise from Ekiti had moved a motion to send a congratulatory message just after the June 3 victory of Barack. Who knows if the lawmakers will change the National Assembly complex into Obama Plaza or Barack Obama Chambers... I understand the stickers are out but where are the Almanacs? We should expect A lot of 2009 calendars to be branded Obamania.
Street names will be changed. And bridges too. Maybe the notorious traffic-plagued Falomo Bridge will become Barack Bridge. Whilst these sound very amusing, I look forward to an Obama Presidency in the U.S. and then I can refer us back to this piece and see how many of my predictions will actually come to pass. Sincerely, Odunayo Omole Lagos
Trust me Barack did the right thing in not accepting public financing. We have no right in saying to his campaign not to do this, how crazy is that.
The GOP say they do not have any 527's out there. Are they kidding me?? You just wait and see, well in fact they are already doing it in all of the smears they are running against Michelle and Barack.
Obama is going to need every penny he can get his hands on to fight them off. The GOP is vicious and if you think what has happened so far is outrageous, hold on because we are in for a more than bumpy ride!
I trust Barack and his staff and they are more than capable to handle this but you have to give him a chance.
I believe David Brooks was paying Barack a compliment in saying:
He’s the most effectively political creature we’ve seen in decades.
Former US Vice Presidential Candidate for the Green Party w/Ralph Nader in 2000, Winona LaDuke who is a Anishinaabe Ojibwa from the White Earth Reservation in Minnesota recently appeared on the Colbert Nation. On the show, Ms. LaDuke declared her support for Obama.
It's a great segment with a good mixture of informative discussion & Indian humor. In case you missed it, here's the link:
http://www.comedycentral.com/colbertreport/videos.jhtml?episodeId=170997
They show a video clip of Bush trying to explain Indian Sovereignty which typifies how clueless he is!!
Following on the heels of the Crow Nation honoring Barack and giving him a traditional ceremonial Indian name, Winona lets Colbert know he has an Indian nickname "Ke-bawt-is" "Mr. Smarty Pants". How funny! .
I voted for Nadar & LaDuke in 2000; I am a registered Democrat for the 1st time in my life because of Barack! it is great to see Winona come out & publicly support Barack.

After last Tuesday, and this past Saturday, I felt like I could finally breathe a sigh of relief now that Obama has been declared the Democratic nominee. I was waiting to see if Hillary was going to pull an Ace out of her sleeve, as it seemed as of last Tuesday she was going to do whatever it takes to "win." I'm recovering from Hillary/MSM fatigue, but I am slowly regaining my strength and momentum again. Hope all is well with you! That's it for now, I'm going to bed to commune with the Dreamworld....In the Spirit for Obama 2008, TGirl71
Laura Bush is a Librarian by profession, and for her degree she needed to pass some reading comprehension classes. She is also an intelligent person. So I am not surprised that with her librarian ethical approach to freedom of speech she underscored the only meaning that Michelle Obama's remark may have in the English language; That Michelle Obama has always loved her country, only that now with a candidate for Change winning, she is even more proud. God bless you, Mrs. Bush. It takes a librarian! Now I am really proud of you.
It is not surprising that Laura Bush's approval ratings double these of her husband. Now they should triple.
Michelle Obama is a lawyer by profession. She knows her words well. To construe her remark as unpatriotic, the MSMs as well as the recent GOP negative ad had to falsify the tape of her speech by removing the word “really” from the whole sentence. Without this adverb the sentence has a very different (=unpatriotic) meaning.
With it, it may only mean what Laura Bush said yesterday. Since February many linguists have discussed the remark and pointed to an evident glitch in the the video where the word “really” is cut out, see youtube where both versions float
Please dig!

So the Dems Energy Package failed...what does this mean for all of us??? Continued pain at the pump, higher grocery bills, increased utility bills, the list of increases in everything only goes on for us - the average American consumer. The nightmare only continues. When will it end? The Republicans solution is to increase domestic production, meaning we should further destroy the environment, they think we're naive to the fact. I'm so disgusted. We must remember this come November, when we'll be paying $20/gallon. Who's really looking out for your best interests, as the average American??? TGirl71

Effort to tax oil profits blockedSenate Democrats fail to overcome filibuster of a 25% windfall profits tax on the top five oil companies.
T. Boone Pickens' crystal ball
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senate Republicans blocked a proposal Tuesday to tax the windfall profits ofthe largest oil companies, despite pleas by Democratic leaders to use the measure to address America's anger over $4 a gallon gasoline.
The Democratic energy package would have imposed a tax on any "unreasonable" profits of the five largest U.S. oil companies and given the federal government more power to address oil market speculation that the bill's supporters argue has added to the crude oil price surge.
"Americans are furious about what's going on," declared Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., and want Congress to do something about oil company profits and "an orgy of speculation" on oil markets.
But Republicans argued the Democratic proposal focusing on new oil industry taxes is not the answer to the country's energy problems.
"The American people are clamoring for relief at the pump," said Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., but if taxes are increased on the oil companies "they will get exactly what they don't want. The bill will raise taxes, increase imports."
The Democrats failed, 51-43, to get the 60 votes needed to overcome a GOP filibuster and bring the energy package up for consideration.
Separately, Democrats also failed to get Republican support for a proposal to extend tax breaks for wind, solar and other alternative energy development, and for the promotion of energy efficiency and conservation. The tax breaks have either expired or are scheduled to end this year.
The tax provisions were included in a broader $50 billion tax measure blocked by a GOP filibuster threat. A vote to take up the measure was 50-44, short of the 60 votes needed.
The windfall profits bill would have imposed a 25 percent tax on profits over what would be determined "reasonable" when compared to profits several years ago. The oil companies could have avoided the tax if they invested the money in alternative energy projects or refinery expansion. It also would have rescinded oil company tax breaks -- worth $17 billion over the next 10 years -- with the revenue to be used for tax incentives to producers of wind, solar and other alternative energy sources as well as for energy conservation.
The legislation also would:
--Require traders to put up more collateral in the energy futures markets and open the way for federal regulation of traders who are based in the United States but use foreign trading platforms. The measures are designed to reduce market speculation.
--Make oil and gas price gouging a federal crime, with stiff penalties of up to $5 million during a presidentially declared energy emergency.
--Authorize the Justice Department to bring charges of price fixing against countries that belong to the OPEC oil cartel.
Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has acknowledged that Americans are hurting from the high energy costs but strongly opposes the Democrats' response and has ridiculed those who "think we can tax our way out of this problem."
"Republicans by and large believe that the solution to this problem, in part, is to increase domestic production," McConnell said.
A GOP energy plan, rejected by the Senate last month, calls for opening a coastal strip of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil development and to allow states to opt out of the national moratorium that has been in effect for a quarter century against oil and gas drilling in more than 80 percent of the country's coastal waters.
Winning the White House is going to take a lot of dough. So on Saturday, June 21st and Sunday, June 22nd, we're organizing "Hungry for Change"—the largest bake sale in history—to fund a massive campaign to send Barack Obama to the Oval Office. Every extra cookie and brownie we sell means more organizers on the ground, more creative ads, and more Obama voters at the polls on Election Day. Can you help?
Back in 2004, we held a nationwide bake sale to defeat Bush, and folks are still talking about how fun it was! We also know from '04 that lots of people in Seattle will be eager to help out by making treats ("Yes We Candy", anyone?) and staffing the table. They just need somebody to get things started. Can you sign up to be a host?
http://pol.moveon.org/event/events/create.html?action_id=123&id=12823-2728216-i46vhf&t=4
We'll gather together, have a blast, and provide a striking contrast: the small-donor energy for electing Obama versus McCain's fat checks from CEOs and corporate lobbyists.
And hosting is a piece of cake—you just pick a location, bring a table, print out a few signs, and bring some food or drinks to sell. We'll recruit other MoveOn members to bring more sweets, help you sell, and buy the delicacies at your table. And we'll help you with directions and advice, every step of the way.
The money we raise will go directly to expanding MoveOn's cutting-edge election plan for '08: our proven door-to-door and phone plans from years past, plus innovative new tactics to reach new voters and persuade them to support Obama.
After Senator Clinton's speech on Saturday, Democrats are uniting and Obama is building momentum—so now is the perfect time to host an event that will bring your neighbors together and kick off the general election.

For obvious reasons the Obama campaign should not loose some devoted volunteers like me (and few others to whom it has happened in these last days) because some infiltrator has seen an advantage in having us removed and not being able to work for Obama campaign by reporting on a post. I personally am very cautious about my posts, but this is a political campaign and I do have strong opinions based on researching facts.
Please let me know how would you resolve this problem, what practical steps could be taken by the administrator to be able to:
remove the injurious infiltrators (or “trolls”) and their messages
make sure that people who are innocent were not getting upset or endangered by a vengeful report.
An obvious thing to check is the profile of the reporter and of the accused. If someone has been here for awhile and has a number of activities and points, it is less likely that this person is an infiltrator.
There has been an intensified infiltrating activity here since the last weekend. They usually are registered for a moment or a day. We are a very free community, and this a special attraction. We want maintain this free, artistic and open minded vision of the world. Please leave here your thoughts and act, before this will happen to you.
I also believe that the administrator's letter should simply include the reported message (!) as well as acknowledgment of the strength of the profile of its author. We have Rights! We are the ones who make it all happen. By giving our time, thoughts, expressions and money. We are the one and a half million donors – volunteers.
I have invested in this campaign! I am an investor, not merely a blogger.
I am enclosing below my response to “Diane” (I have not yet received a response).

Dear MoveOn member,
Last night Senator Obama locked up the nomination.
Amazing.
After years of DC insiders running the show, a progressive candidate who started in politics through community organizing, who unequivocally opposed the war in Iraq, who isn't afraid to stand up to the politics of fear, an African-American, became the Democratic nominee for president.
What does that mean? The change we all want, the things we petition and hold vigils and make phone calls and rally for—things like universal health care, social justice, and an end to the war—these things are really truly possible, if we believe in them and if we're willing to fight for them.
Now comes the hardest part, though: Winning back the White House and defeating John McCain.
We need to send Obama into the general election with the strongest hand possible. He'll need to ramp up his campaign and that's going to take money—fast. We can all help. Click below to contribute to Obama's campaign:
https://pol.moveon.org/give/obama2.html?id=12777-2728216-gK5_mo&t=3
Your contribution will show the media and the election experts that enthusiasm for Obama is surging. Whether it's $5 or $10 or $150—every bit makes a difference.
Why give through MoveOn? So Obama knows that progressives have his back as he pushes to unify the country around a progressive agenda—an agenda we'll push hard to enact when he's in the White House.
MoveOn members have been a big part of the movement that helped put Barack Obama over the top. Since January, when 70% of MoveOn members decided to endorse Senator Obama, we've done a lot together:
Today we also salute Senator Hillary Clinton. She's been an inspiration not just for women, but Americans everywhere. We are so grateful for the work she's done on critical progressive issues, especially health care. And she ran an amazing race.
Now it's important for us all to come together to work toward the biggest opportunity in a generation to bring change to America.
This is our time. As Senator Obama said last night:
"If we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal; this was the moment when we ended a war and secured our nation and restored our image as the last, best hope on Earth. "
It will happen if we make it happen. Please donate today:

Barack Obama has clinched the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.
The total number of delegates needed to secure the nomination is 2,118. Right now, Barack has the support of at least 2,179 delegates, which gives him a lock on the nomination.
Thank you for all you have done. Your support has brought us to this moment. Watch the video of Barack's victory speech and make a donation of $25 today to support the next phase of this movement for change:

Barack Obama will be the Democratic nominee, but we've got huge challenges ahead as we build our organization for the general election.
John McCain has been running his general election campaign for months, and we have some catching up to do.
But one of the benefits of this historic primary season is that we had a chance to build our grassroots organization in all 50 states.
We have an unprecedented opportunity to mobilize volunteers everywhere and compete in places that Democrats have overlooked in the past.
Last night, Barack laid out the vision for where this campaign is headed -- watch the speech and make a $25 donation to help us get there:
Thank you,
