This site will not take the place of the great organizing and information sharing that barackobama.com offers us put it will allow us to share additional information as it is made available. Currently you can access and download fliers, mailers, pictures, videos, find contact to the state wide volunteer campaign and many more resources.

Who am I?

My name is Rhonda Lynn Barnes, I was born in Detroit. My mother was only 16 when I was born and we didn't have much. I don't know my father. My grandfather's parents met at Ellis Island as they migrated from Germany. My grandmother was part Cherokee and Chactaw Indian. My grandparents met in the south and moved to Detroit to find work in the auto industry. They didn't have much but always had much love to share.My mother, Linda, not only raised 4 children, she put herself through school and eventually attained her Masters Degree. She instilled in me a sense that we are all equal. She proved that in the United States a person can reach high, no matter how meager of beginnings they have had. I am a mother of 3 sons, ages 17 to 27. I have a Master's Degree in Organizational Management and also am a CPA, working in Jacksonville Fl right now. I am 49 years old and am a former republican. I never wanted to be in politics until now. I read Senator Obama's first book before he was even well known. I was so inspired that I would tell all my friends and family "Barack Obama" should be our next president. Everyone said "who?". Then I started following Obama in the news when he was considering running, I got hooked. I read his second book "The audacity of hope" and I have learned so much more about him and also about politics.My mother was passionate about our government (she taught government in high school), and I would never pay attention when she wanted me to embrace how the government works (and doesn't work). My mother passed several years ago, but I know her presence is with me. Who knows, perhaps she is even guiding me now. I guess I have always been an activist at heart, but was so busy trying to climb the corporate ladder and raise 3 children while going to night school that I never did much about it. When I was young I was determined to brake the mold of only "an elite group of white men" making all the business decisions. Yet, I found that glass ceiling is real for women, partly because I wouldn't play the "corporate game" which can be very unethical. I have taught business courses part time over the last 10 years and I always tell me students that although I didn't break through the ceiling....they can. So as I am turning 50 I realize that I am finally ready to put my energy into action for something I believe in....and I have never in my life set a goal I didn't accomplish. I realize I have much to learn, yet I know that my involvement with others in this campaign will teach me all I need to knw.Timing is everything and our country is ripe for change. Barack Obama will be our next leader of this great country. Since I don't really represent any one group, I decided that I would start a group named "Diversity for Obama". I planted just one seed... to march in Washington D.C. to show the world that Americans from all walks of life supported Barack Obama.Now that seed is growing and I am grateful that there is a power much greater than myself pulling all of us together. The Audacity of Hope.I have been asked if I have the experience to orchestrate such an undertaking...the answer is yes, I have been preparing for the last 49 years. It began when my mother believed in me and told me that I could do anything I put my mind to. Who am I? I am my mother's daughter. Rhonda Barnes

Young Detroiters Fundraiser!

Good Afternoon Everyone in the Young Detroiters for Obama Group!My name is Michelle and I am working with Jason and Kori to plan our first activity as a group.We are looking to host a fundraiser/networking event for Young Detroiters for Obama on Wednesday, March 21st from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Centaur in Downtown Detroit. The event ticket will be $25 and can be purchased online or at the event.This event will be a great kick-off to some of the other activities we have planned for the group in the coming months.On that note we are looking for some folks to help out in the following areas:1) We are looking for members to be a part of the host committee. As a host committee member your responsibility would be to raise $250 for the event. All that would mean is getting 10 of your friends to come to the event at $25 a ticket. Or you can write a check for the total amount or collect donations from people who might not be attending the event. If you are interested in being a member of the host committee or need more details please contact me at this email address.2) We are looking for someone with a bit of HTML savvy and graphic design knowledge to help us develop our electronic invitation to the event. If you are an e-wiz please email as soon as possible since we need to email out our invitation in the next two weeks.3) Last but not least we are looking for someone who can DJ to participate in the event. We're getting killed over there, suffering here at home. We're losing everything we had. I'm watching 20,000 at the Austin,TX fest. WOW!! That says something, doesn't it? We all have or had respect, hope,faith,love or happiness in our hearts. Can you remember it...can you feel it? Somethings blowing in, somekind of spirit to lift us up. America has to change. Are we ready for the calling? Are we? Are we fine? I'm missing those troops. Each one and every one of them. Please bring them backkk....Braaaccccck.....
