Dear Editor,
First of all i am a Vietnam veteran, who volunteered with the USMC. During that war, I was trained to make the air President Nixon would breathe when flying above 20k feet. During the Vietnam War we at least had plenty of soldiers to give others a break. Today our soldiers are at the breaking point. I am writing to express my dismay over President Bush's reaction to the recent threat assessment from U.S. counter-terrorism analysts. The assessment found that al-Qaeda has regained strength in a safe haven along the Afghan-Pakistani border. Despite this evaluation, the White House issued a statement claiming that we are making security progress in the war on terror. George Bush only knows what war to start and who to attack but he doesn't have the ability to ask how to complete a war and why to start one, other than because he just wants too. Now we have an almost broken military. During the Clinton administration our defict was low, but that was because Bill Clinton closed bases and reduced troop levels. So Clinton knew when and where to close bases and reduce troop levels, however, he also didn't know to ask why he should do it and how it would affect our military.. This administration is also in denial, and its failure to acknowledge the facts is putting the United States in danger. The report found that al Qaeda has regrouped to an extent not seen since 2001, the year our nation was rocked by a devastating attack. During the vietnam war we had a draft. We at least had enough troops. Today's military / soldiers will never be able to resolve any future wars due to George Bush and Bill Clinton. The thought of another attack of that magnitude on U.S. soil is very upsetting to me, and I am seriously concerned that our president continues to disregard this information. George Bush only knows to ask who and what and The clintons only understand to ask when and where. Those without mirror neurons, who can't ask how and why are like robots, which is a form of artificial intellegence. A robot only knows to ask what and who and when and where but doesn't have the foresight to ask how and why. Personally i am throwing my support to Barack Obama, who i feel, has the best understanding and ability to know how and why to go to war. He understood "why" we shouldn't have gotten into this stupid war and "how" this would affect our troop level and safety. I can only hope and pray that you post my letter in hopes that our country and our military soldiers are not totally destroyed with this war in Iraq. If George Bush and his republican congress can't give our troops a break, and stop breaking our military, then i ask them to at the least propose a draft or get us out of Iraq now! Thank you for your time.

Iraq Summer is in town. Iraq summer is a project of American's Against Escalation in Iraq. Attached is a document outlining organizing guidelines between member groups of UFPJ, The Pennsylvania Campaign to Bring Home the Troops, and Coalition for Peace Action on how peace movement groups can relate to Iraq summer. We would like to present a common front and ensure maximum coordination between local and national efforts organizing the stop US occupation in Iraq. has banded together to launch a multi million dollar effort in thirty states to apply pressure through paid advertising and a firestorm of grassroots mobilization opposing President Bush on his plan for escalating the war and on Members of Congress who must stand up to the President and insist on a policy which responsibly brings our troops home."

Across the country, Americans Against Escalation in Iraq have launched the “Iraq Summer” campaign to pressure lawmakers to bring a responsible end to the war in Iraq. Next week during the July 4th recess, AAEI will hold events urging 40 Republican Members of Congress to take a stand against President Bush’s policy of endless war.

“Iraq Summer” has dispatched 13 organizers to Pennsylvania in the following congressional districts: Congressman Grerlach's, Platts, Dent's, English's and Tim Murphy's. The effort is designed to turn up the heat this summer on Republican members of Congress who have opposed setting a timeline to bring a responsible end to the war in Iraq. Over the next ten weeks a barrage of events, letter writing campaigns, volunteer activities, internet organizing and rallies will target lawmakers and call on them to reject President Bush's failed policy of endless war and vote for the safe, responsible redeployment of American troops out of Iraq. The Iraq Summer program is modeled on the “Freedom Summer” civil rights project.

We are hoping that your group will sign on to the attached agreement to afford the maximum coordination to the work we are all doing and this exciting campaign. Every group involved can expect to benefit by brining pressure to bear on elected official that can help us STOP the occupation, but we can also gain be building new resources and a stronger constituencies. Their organizers will help our groups and working together we can gain the names of many more supporters for efforts that we will be organizing after this campaign ends.

Action Targeting Senator Specter
July 18th there will be a statewide action targeting Arlen Specter. The Action will be 9 AM till 12 Noon. We will inundate his local district offices with phone calls to Take A Stand Against the Occupation in Iraq! At the same time, organizers from Iraq Summer will organize vigils during the same time. We are asking that if you cannot call on that day, call Monday or Tuesday. Attached is a flyer and a message to use on your call.

UFPJ Call For Regional Actions October 27th
Regionally we are inviting your group to send a representative to a regional planning and decision-making meeting in Wilmington Delaware July 28th (Address below)

This is part of a nationwide major action that UFPJ is calling for on Saturday, October 27th. UFPJ working groups are organizing at ten to twelve major regional actions at various locations simultaneously before the election to have maximum impact to pressure elected officials to vote to end the occupation. In the East they will be held in Boston, New York City and, as proposed below, Dover Delaware and one to two locations in the South.

Dear friend,

We are writing you as a Planning Committee of United for Peace and Justice activists in the Mid-Atlantic Region (defined as Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, DC, and Virginia). At the very successful UFPJ National Assembly in Chicago on June 22-24, we like others caucused to plan coordinated regional actions this fall, on October 27. On the East Coast, the locations chosen are Boston, New York city, somewhere in the Southeast, and a Mid-Atlantic action for folks in our states.

In our regional caucus, strong support developed for an action at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware-as the place from our troops are shipped overseas, and where those killed in action in Iraq come back to their families. We feel that a serious, dignified protest at Dover AFB will form an effective contrast with big city marches in New York and elsewhere, as well as offering a chance to connect up with active-duty troops, Iraq vets, and military families with a clear message: "Bring them all home now!"

However, we also know that our caucus is a relatively small group, and that to organize a major mobilization at Dover or anywhere else requires much larger participation from the outset. Therefore, we are inviting you to a Regional Meeting in Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday, July 28, 10 AM-3 PM. The meeting will be hosted by Pacem in Terris, the state's leading peace organization, and will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church at Pennsylvania Avenue and North Rodney Street, close to I-95; detailed directions will be sent to everyone who indicates interest. The train station is approximately one mile from the location. That meeting that will make the major decisions, and we hope you can be there!

The agenda for the meeting is simple: To decide where to hold our action as part of the national October 27 mobilization, and to decide on the form of that action (a silent march? possible speakers? a civil disobedience component or not?).

Having made those decisions, we plan to constitute ourselves formally as Mid-Atlantic UFPJ, create working groups, and do extensive planning for outreach and publicity. We will have exactly three months to make this happen, so work will need to begin immediately.

WASHINGTON (July 1) - Sen. Barack Obama reported Sunday raising at
least $32.5 million for his presidential campaign from April through June,
a record for a Democratic candidate.

That is more than what Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, Obama's main
Democratic rival, has said she would raise for the reporting period that
ended Saturday.

At least $31 million of Obama's total is for party primaries, according
to campaign aides.

The first-term senator from Illinois received donations from more
than 154,000 individual contributors and through the first half of the year
had 258,000 donors. Obama raised $25.7 million in the first three months
of the year.

Vaulting ahead of Clinton in the money race is an important achievement.
Despite broad public interest in Obama's candidacy, he trails the New York
senator and former first lady in national polls.

Several leading candidates in both parties have raised money for
both the primary and general elections. Clinton has been the most aggressive
in tapping donors for both.

General election money, however, cannot be used unless the candidate
becomes the nominee. Early in the year, Obama raised more than Clinton in
primary dollars.

Clinton aides have said she would raise "in the range" of $27 million
in the April-through-June period and predicted Obama would do
better.

Only Republican George W. Bush, in each presidential campaign, raised
comparable amounts in the second quarter of the year before the general election.
The single-quarter record is $35.1 million, by Bush from April through June
in 2003. Clinton had held the Democratic mark with $26 million, covering
the first three months of this year.

"We are on a financial course that will allow us to both fully fund
efforts in the early primary and caucus states, and also participate vigorously
in all the February 5 contests, including large states like California, New
Jersey, New York, Georgia and Missouri," Obama campaign manager David Plouffe
wrote supporters Sunday.

Democrat John Edwards raised more than $9 million from April through
June and relied on nearly 100,000 donors during the first half of the
year.

The fundraising total met the campaign's stated goal but was about
$5 million less than what he took in during the first three months of the
year. The campaign has said it is on track to raise $40 million by the Iowa
caucuses in January.

Edwards remained a distant third in Democratic presidential fundraising
to Clinton and Obama.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson was at Edward's heels, with his campaign
reporting more than $7 million raised. But Edwards' six-month total was $23
million, compared with more than $14 million for Richardson.

Among Republicans, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign
has said he will fall short of the $20.7 million raised in earlier in the
year.

Rudy Giuliani was expected to exceed his first quarter total of $16
million. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., was struggling to match the $13.8 million
he took in during the first quarter.

Details of how much the campaigns raised and spent in the latest
period will not be available until the candidates file financial reports
with the Federal Election Commission by July 15. While several Democrats
had already revealed their total sums, Republicans were not expected to announce
their figures until Monday or later in the week.

At this point in the campaign, fundraising figures can act as an
easy measure of candidate strength and create tiers of contenders based on
their ability to amass money.

Other financial tallies can be as telling. That includes a campaign's
spending rate, the size of the average donations and how much money can be
used in the primary races and how much could only be tapped for the general
election.

"We now know this campaign will enter the next phase with the resources
to compete," Edwards' campaign manager David Bonior wrote in an e-mail to
donors late Saturday. "No matter what they throw at us, John Edwards' message
of substance will break through to voters in Iowa, New Hampshire, and key
states all over the country and that's all we need to win."

The third quarter is likely to see more spending by the candidates,
particularly on advertising. With Obama behind Clinton in polls, he may be
forced to spend money earlier and in greater quantities than Clinton to win
over voters.

Obama last week opened his first ad campaign, airing two biographical
commercials in Iowa.

Meanwhile, Clinton wasted no time moving into the next fundraising
period. She and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, were to attend
a a fundraising party Sunday at the Virginia home of campaign chairman Terry
McAuliffe.

Need Your Backside in Glenside on Saturday

Ouch. Ok, that was a bit of a reach on the creative Post Title. Just trying to get your attention. Sheldon Motley (Go Shel!) has been sending regular messages and postings to groups asking, no PLEADING, for warm bodies to show up at the Glenside train station on Saturday to participate in one large Walk for Change event that is endorsed and supported by the PA campaign people.
Now, I'd be the last person to tell you to abandon your very local efforts, but if you can do both, or if you weren't planning on participating in a more local Walk for Change event, please consider helping Barack and the campaign out on Saturday morning. Look for one of Sheldon's postings and you'll find all the info you need, but I think things kick-off at 10:00 a.m. at the train station. The campaign needs to have at least 100 people there Saturday morning. It's critical to have a strong showing so Barack remains strong in the polls. The media will be there and we don't want the story to be: Handful of People for Obama. Some of you might not know how hard it is to gather 100 people for something. Typically, that means we need to sign up more than 200 people. Why? Because at least half the people who sign up will do something else on Saturday for various reasons, some of them actual emergenices. Often though, and I know because I've done this myself, people get sidetracked by life or something "better" to do and don't show, telling themselves that there will be enough other people there. Honestly, it never, ever works that way. The event needs YOU and your backside in Glenside. 
This campaign is about more than posting to a blog, e-mailing a few friends, wearing a button or T, slapping a sticker on your car, and/or having a profile here at MyBO. It means commiting to reaching out and actually volunteering for the harder stuff: rallies, walks, door knocking, lit drops, whatever action you can personally manage. It also means forking over some cash. Money talks and let's Barack walk: all over this nation to bring his message. Without consistent donations from people like you and me, Barack cannot run a successful campaign. I'm not talking hundreds of dollars from each of us. I'm talking the price of a couple of lattes. If even half the people registered on this site sent $10 to the campaign, we'd stop getting those fundraising messages in our mailboxes from David Plouffe. Barack would be rolling in the dough. And if you truly do not have the funds to kick in, that is where volunteering comes in. 
I'm not going to whine any longer about this. I just know that when I volunteer and donate, i have much more at stake, and I feel more a part of this campaign and the changes we will bring about. I'm invigorated, excited, and enthused about Barack and what he is trying to do whenever I help with or participate in an event. Please join us on Saturday and feel that way, too.

June 9th event - head count

I'm sure you have all seen the numerous postings about the June 9th event focusing on the Glenside location...if not, I'll repost the details at the end of this post. However, at this point I'd like to ask everyone in the Montco group to log in a yes or no vote as to whether or not you can make this event - and make it for the Glenside event. It is really important that we make this a good showing, so if at all possible, please consider going to Glenside for the day. If not, we can still use you to canvass around your neighborhood.

So, please respond back ASAP with a yes or no to the Glenside event. If no, please add a note as to whether or not you'll be active on that day in your own neighborhood so we can provide you with materials.

No Rest for the Weary

Whew. The Electric Factory Rally was phenomenal. Thanks to everyone who pitched in and volunteered in countless roles. It takes a tremendous amount of effort to pull off two hours of event.
We need your help again, though. The campaign's June 9, Walk for Change effort is taking place in thousands of communities across the country. So far, Chester County for Obama does not have a specific event set up for June 9, mostly because I threw all of my time into the rally. As it turns out, though, this is a good thing.
Apparently, the campaign would like the focus in Southeastern PA to be on the Glenside, PA event. They invited media and promoted Glenside, only to get a lukewarm response from volunteers in that area. So the call has gone out to many PA groups to round up volunteers to go to Glenside on June 9.

Southeastern PA Walk for Change. Please join thousands of volunteers across the country on June 9th and hit the streets for the Walk for Change National Canvass being organized by grassroots supporters of Barack Obama.

RIGHTS TO ABORTION.

But this is how Obama voted in 1997 when he was new to
the Illinois
legislature and got a chance to take a stand against
bills to impose a
similar statewide ban on what critics call
partial-birth abortion:

"Present," the political equivalent of taking a pass.

THIS IS SMART. HE DIDN'T HAVE THE VOTES TO CHANGE
ANYTHING SO HE SMARTLY VOTED PRESENT. VERY SMART.

Obama's short time in Washington offers a limited
guide to his
political views and methods, but he spent nearly eight
years in the Illinois
Senate. "It was that experience in the legislature
that convinced me that
politics can be a noble calling," he said in a recent
campaign
appearance.

I BELIEVE THIS TO BE HIS TRUE NATURE. BEING NOBLE THAT
IS.

If Springfield is the measure of Obama the politician,
a review of his
tenure is a study in complexity, caution and
calculation. In the
minority party for all but his final two years in the
Statehouse, he tempered
a progressive agenda with a cold dash of realism,
often forging
consensus with conservative Republicans when other
liberals wanted to crusade.

AGAIN VERY SMART. HE DIDN'T JUST JOIN A BUNCH OF
RADICAL DEMOCRATS WHO WANTED TO DIVIDE US. VERY SMART
I THINK.

The insular world of Springfield also served as a
prelude to some of
the challenges confronting Obama on the presidential
campaign trail.
While some African-American colleagues in the state
capital viewed him as a
dynamic leader, others were put off by the pedigree of
a
Harvard-educated lawyer raised in exotic places far
from Chicago's West and South
Sides. Some in the Senate Black Caucus went out of
their way to haze him.

THAT IS FOOLISH OF THOSE BLACK LEADERS WHO SEEM TO BE
PREJUDICE OF HIS EDUCATION.

At the same time Obama, who is biracial, bonded with a
trio of white
colleagues from the suburbs and Downstate. They became
some of his
closest friends, poker-playing buddies and sounding
boards.

NOTHING WRONG WITH HAVING FRIENDS OF ALL COLORS.

He took leadership roles on reform measures dealing
with the death
penalty, racial profiling, tax credits for the working
poor and ethics,
issues that earned him praise from Democratic
supporters and even some
Republicans.

AGAIN HERE BARACK SHOWS THAT HE HAS A CARING HEART.

But Obama wasn't above playing the political angles.

He pushed to get state-run pension funds to open more
investment
opportunities for minority money managers who donated
to his campaign. During
his 2004 U.S. Senate primary bid, Obama sent a
newsletter to
constituents at taxpayer expense that touted his
accomplishments. It went out
just days before the effective date of a ban on such
practices close to
election time -- part of a reform package he had
championed.

NOTHING WRONG HERE ABOUT BARACK TOUTING HIS HELPING
MINORITIES GET AHEAD. WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE HIM
DOING THAT AND HELPING TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD OF
LIFE.

Perhaps nothing illustrated Obama's calculating style
more than his
approach to abortion. The state Senate voted 14 times
on various abortion
restrictions during his tenure. Half the time, Obama
voted "present."

AGAIN HERE HE IS SMART. NO SENSE FIGHTING A LOSING
BATTLE WITH THE REPUBLICANS IN CONTROL.

He said it was a strategy agreed to by abortion-rights
advocates to
insulate Democrats from political backlash in more
conservative areas. But
Obama's Hyde Park district was one of the state's most
liberal.

HE LISTENED TO THE ABORTION RIGHT ADVOCATES. SMART
AGAIN. THEY SURELY KNOW MORE THAN THIS WRITER.

From the moment he arrived in the Illinois Senate, it
was clear to many
that Obama didn't plan to stay. Just months into
office, he approached
then-Senate Democratic Chief of Staff Mike Hoffman and
offered to buy
him a beer. The two adjourned to a hotel bar.

Talk turned to how Obama's name might play with
Downstate voters in a
statewide race, Hoffman recalled recently. "We talked
about in a
campaign, if you have a strange name, you could have
some fun with it."

No specific office came up, Hoffman said, but the
legislative
freshman's message was clear. Obama "wanted me to know
that he had other
ambitions."

AND A SMART MAN LIKE BARACK SHOULD THINK AHEAD SO AS
TO MAKE CHANGES IN THE WORLD. VERY SMART AND LOOKING
AHEAD ATITUDE.

'Hollywood' and the upstart

Obama arrived in Springfield with an important ally.
Emil Jones, then
the minority leader of the chamber and later its
president, fancied
himself a mentor to Obama. To Jones, Obama represented
"the future,"
someone who "embodies all that I dream and work for."

HE DOES THE SAME FOR ME AS WELL.

The two met on a street corner years earlier when
Obama's South Side
community group coincidentally convened an outdoor
meeting just doors
from Jones' house. They have been close ever since.

WHICH SHOWS WHERE HE CAME FROM AND WHAT HE DID TO EARN
HIS PLACE TODAY.

Obama needed a powerful friend. He had breezed to
election in 1996 by
forcing all his Democratic opponents off the ballot,
including a popular
member of the Senate Black Caucus, incumbent Alice
Palmer. That bit of
hardball didn't endear him to many in the caucus.

WELL IF THE BLACK CAUCUS ONLY WANTED TO GET OR KEEP
WELFARE FOR THEIR PEOPLE THAT DOESN'T SEEM SMART FOR
THEM AS BARACK GETTING THEM AN EDUCATION AND JOBS WILL
HELP THEM FAR MORE. LIKE HE SAID IN SELMA GET OFF THE
COUCH UNCLE SO AND SO.

Before taking office, Obama sought advice from Rep.
Art Turner, a
veteran West Side Democrat. Turner warned him not to
"come in the door
looking like you're all-knowing" and to "realize that
some aren't ready for
reform or changes."

WELL ITS HARD FOR A MAN LIKE BARACK WHO HAS SUCH
NATURAL KNOW EVERYTHING MENTALITY SO I DON'T SEE
ANYTHING WRONG HERE EITHER.

Obama also reached out to former state Rep. Paul
Williams, a longtime
lobbyist who once served as legislative aide to Harold
Washington when
the former Chicago mayor was in the General Assembly.
Williams found
himself healing relations between Obama and senior
lawmakers.

"Let's face it," Williams said in a recent interview.
"There's certain
African-Americans that the world is more likely to
fall [for] than
others. Barack fits all of that stuff: educated,
smart, good-looking, lean,
all of these kind of things."

WELL I DON'T THINK I WOULD CALL BARACKS ONLY ASSETS
HIS LOOKS. HE SURELY HAS SMARTS. I THINK MR WILLIAMS
MAY BE JELOUS.

Obama was just months into his first term when Jones
began doling out
assignments to him befitting a more senior lawmaker.
For instance, Jones
made Obama the lead Democratic negotiator on a
landmark welfare-to-work
package Republicans were pushing.

AGAIN A GOOD THING FOR PEOPLE OF COLOR SO THEY CAN GET
OUT OF THE WELFARE TRAP. YES SOME NEED IT AND I AM
SURE BARACK WEIGHED THAT TOO.

His rise caused friction in the Senate's Black Caucus.
Some caucus
veterans thought Obama hadn't paid his dues and were
resentful of the
attention Jones was lavishing on someone they
considered an Ivy League
upstart.

WELL THATS PLAIN JELOUSY AND NOT VERY UNDERSTANDING OF
SOMEONE WHO KNOWS VERSUS SOMEONE WITH TIME IN. MANY
TIMES IN LIFE PEOPLE TOLD ME THE SAME THING. I ONCE
MADE 3 TIMES MORE THAN MECHANICS WHO HAD FAMILIES TO
FEED AND I WAS 12 YRS OLD. HOWEVER, I DIDN'T WASTE IT
OR FLAUNT IT.

Among the most put out was Sen. Rickey Hendon, a
streetwise West Sider
nicknamed "Hollywood" who once hoped to be a movie
producer. Another
lawmaker giving Obama a hard time was Sen. Donne
Trotter, the Democratic
point man on budget issues. In 2000, Trotter and Obama
vied to unseat
U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, but didn't come close to
toppling the South Side
congressman.

In Springfield, Hendon and Trotter would "just give
Barack hell" and
disparage him as a know-it-all, said Sen. Kimberly
Lightford (D-Maywood),
who was chairwoman of the chamber's Black Caucus.

WELL AGAIN IT SOUNDS LIKE JELOUSY AND JUST BECAUSE
THEY ARE STREET SMART DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE
POLITICALLY SMART.

In a recent interview, Obama said the tension was
particularly intense
during his push for ethics reforms. "The general
perception was,
'Here's the new guy coming in and he is acting holier
than thou,'
" he recalled.

WELL BARACK MAY APPEAR THAT WAY TO SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T
KNOW HOLY.

Once, Obama and Hendon nearly came to blows. Obama had
voted for budget
cuts that eliminated a child welfare office in
Hendon's district. On
the Senate floor, Hendon said Obama had "a lot of
nerve to talk about
being responsible" to those in need and then voting to
cut services to the
poor.

WELL MAYBE MR HENDON SHOULD THINK TWICE ABOUT KEEPING
HIS CONSTITUENTS ON WELFARE AND GETTING ELECTED FOR
DOING SO. IT SEEMS TO ME BARACK KNEW THE BIGGER
PICTURE AND DIDN'T WANT TO BUY VOTES BY KEEPING A
WELFARE OFFICE. THATS HONESTY.

Saying he didn't realize he was voting for the cuts,
Obama added: "I
would appreciate that next time my dear colleague,
Sen. Hendon, ask me
about a vote before he names me on the floor."

IT SEEMS MR HENDON GOT CAUGHT IN HIS OWN KARMA AND
BARACK WAS BLAMED. SHAME ON MR HENDON.

Microphones off, the two headed to the back of the
Senate chamber where
Obama tried to put his hand on Hendon's shoulder.
Hendon slapped it
away.

WELL BARACK ONLY DID AND HONEST THING AND TRIED TO
BEFRIEND HIS FRIEND AS HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW HE HURT
ANYONE BY HIS ACTIONS. MR HENDON DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A
MAN WITH AN OPEN MIND BUT AS SOMEONE WITH A CHIP ON
HIS SHOULDER.

Asked about the incident recently, Hendon said, "My
memory is foggy on
that issue. It's going to remain foggy."

THATS GOOD THAT HE CAN LEAVE IT BEHIND HIM. THAT IS
SEEING THAT IT WAS HIS OWN KARMA THAT HAD BARACK MAKE
THE ACTIONS THAT RESULTED IN MR HENDON NOT GETTING
WHAT HE WANTED. WHICH WAS PROBABLY FOR THE BEST
ANYWAY.

The politics of poker

In many ways, Obama's relations with fellow
legislators in Springfield
reflected his lifelong efforts to straddle different
worlds, a
political challenge that continues to this day.

While his dealings with some top black legislators
were icy, he often
seemed most comfortable among other Democrats. Obama
formed tight
friendships with three white Senate colleagues whose
backgrounds and
personalities couldn't have been more different from
his.

OK SO THE BLACK LEADERS WHO HAD ALL THEIR PEOPLE
CONTROLLED DIDN'T LIKE A SMART MANY LIKE BARACK SO
BARACK DIDN'T LET IT HURT HIM HE WENT AND FOUND NEW
FRIENDS.

There was the blunt-talking Denny Jacobs from the Quad
Cities, and
Larry Walsh from Elwood, whose "aw-shucks" demeanor
belied deft political
skills.

NOT SURE WHO THEYR ARE BUT I AM SURE BARACK DID AND
WAS BEING FRIENDLY AND TRYING TO SEE ALL SIDES OF
POLITICS IN HIS REGION.

Closest to Obama was Terry Link of Waukegan, who also
was Lake County
Democratic chairman. Both entered the Senate the same
year, sat next to
each other on the floor and shared office space. "We
were just polar
opposites," said Link. "He won easy, I had a difficult
race. He was
Harvard Law, and I was lucky to get out of high
school. He was backed by the
independents and here I was, a party leader."

OH SO ANOTHER MAN (NOT SURE OF HIS RACE) SOUNDS JELOUS
TOO OF BARACKS HARD WORK AND EDUCATION. MAKES YOU
WONDER WHO IS IN CHARGE OF CHICAGO POLITICS? ALL
PEOPLE WITH STREET SMARTS OR WHAT?

Link served as a conduit to party insiders, coaching
Obama to pay heed
to the agendas of organized labor and other old-line
Democratic
pressure groups.

WHICH I AM SURE BARACK WAS PROBABLY SICK TO HIS
STOMACH THINKING WHAT ARE THE LIKES OF THESE KIND OF
PEOPLE RUNNING THE REGION. I KNOW I WOULD BE.

Nowhere was Obama's ability to navigate Springfield's
subcultures on
better display than at The Committee Meeting. That was
the code name for
Wednesday night poker games attended by about a dozen
lawmakers and
lobbyists.

Obama was a regular, and his stingy betting became a
running joke with
those at the table.

I DISLIKE GAMBLING TOO. WOW BARACK IS SO MUCH LIKE ME.
A STINGY PERSON WHEN IT COMES TO HAVING TO GAMBLE JUST
TO GET TO KNOW THE OLD TIME POLITICIANS. SHEESH

"You're a socialist with everybody's money but your
own," Sen. Bill
Brady (R-Bloomington) complained to Obama.

NO BARACK JUST ISN'T INTO THROWING HIS MONEY AROUND..
VERY SMART. I AM AGAIN JUST LIKE HIM. THE MORE I READ
THIS WRITERS STORY THE MORE I LOVE BARACK OBAMA.

Some in the legislature treat their long interludes in
Springfield as a
form of camp, a chance to get away from family
obligations and party it
up. Obama wasn't one of them. An early riser, he was a
regular in the
exercise room of his downtown hotel. Sometimes he
showed up at the local
YMCA for a dawn pickup basketball game.

AGAIN A WONDERFUL THING TO DO. HE WASN'T LIKE THE REST
OF CHICAGO POLITICIANS WHO SIT AND GAMBLE AND TALK
ABOUT HOW THEY ARE GOING TO RUN THE CITY. HMMM INSTEAD
BARACK TAKES THE HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE WOW I AM
IMPRESSED! :)

An exception to his disciplined routine was the poker
game held inside
the headquarters of the Illinois Manufacturers
Association, the big
business lobby whose legislative goals often were at
odds with those of
liberals like Obama.

OK SO BARACK GAMBLED A FEW DOLLARS AND THEY WANTED HIM
TO BE A BIG GAMBLER DRINKING OLD TIME POLITICIAN. GEEZ
THOSE POOR CHICAGO PEOPLE WHO ENDED UP WITH THE LIKES
OF THEM. THEN AGAIN I AM HERE IN PHILADELPHIA WITH A
FEW OF THEM. I SURE HOPE MR NUTTER BECOMES A BARACK
OBAMA.

Handed a cigar and cocktail on the way in, players
left a few hundred
dollars richer or poorer. Obama played liked he
legislated, "slowly,
deliberately, cautiously," recalled Jacobs.

WELL DUH BARACK IS NO FOOL.

Poker was a way to relax and schmooze out of the
polarizing glare under
the Capitol dome. To Obama, it was also a chance to
prove to colleagues
that he was a regular guy.

POOR BARACK I BET HE WISHED HE HAD SOME BETTER
EDUCATED POLITICIANS TO SPEND HIS TIME. I SURE WOULD
IF I WERE HIM.

"When it turned out that I could sit down at [a bar]
and have a beer
and watch a game or go out for a round of golf or get
a poker game
going," Obama said, "I probably confounded some of
their expectations."

OH MY BARACK HAD "A' BEER. BUT THEN AGAIN HE PLAYED
GOLF TO WORK IT OFF. SMART MAN.

A legislative diplomat

In his first campaign, Obama lashed out at incumbent
pols who cut
backroom deals to consolidate their power rather than
advance the common
good. But once in the Springfield mosh pit, Obama
crafted an image as a
bridge-builder.

THATS THE BARACK I KNOW AND THE MAN I WANT AS
PRESIDENT.

"He's not dogmatic, he's consensus building," said
Jones. He also was
practical. With Republicans controlling the Senate
until 2003, fighting
them wouldn't accomplish much.

VERY SMART. VERY VERY SMART.

In 1999, Obama spoke so passionately in favor of
affirmative action
that a Republican colleague shelved a resolution aimed
at undermining the
practice at public universities.

SURE BARACK WANTS PEOPLE OF COLOR TO BE ABLE TO HAVE
EDUCATIONS NOT WELFARE. GOSH I LOVE THIS MAN BARACK
OBAMA. AND THIS ARTICLE THAT WAS SENT TO ME IS SUPOSE
TO MAKE BARACK LOOK BAD?????? OH WELL ..

He had less success with another goal that he now is
pushing in his
presidential run: universal health care. He once
proposed a state
constitutional amendment to mandate it. In another
echo of criticism Obama has
faced in his presidential campaign, the proposal
lacked detail. He
later watered down his idea to simply call for a task
force to study the
issue.

OK SO HE DIDN'T DO EVERYTHING HE WANTED TO DO IN
ILLINOIS. HE REALIZED HE BETTER GO TO WASH DC WHERE HE
HAD MORE POWER AND ABILITY TO DO IT. AND HE IS STILL
LISTENING AS HE ASK FOR INPUT FROM EVERY DAY CITIZENS
ON HIS WEB SITE AT WWW.BARACKOBAMA.COM

A critic of the state's broken capital punishment
system, Obama spent
two years working with Republicans to broker a series
of reforms aimed
at making it more difficult for the innocent to face
execution. Still,
Obama found himself on various sides of the death
penalty debate.

SURE NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THE INNOCENT PUT TO DEATH.
BRAVO BRAVO BARACK!

Five months into office, he voted to expand the list
of capital crimes
to include the brutal murder of a senior citizen or a
disabled person.
Four years later he opposed adding murders that were
part of "gang
activity" to the list, saying the term was a
"mechanism to target
particular neighborhoods [and] particular
individuals."

AGAIN BRAVO BRAVO BARACK FOR STICKING UP FOR THE
SENIOR CITIZENS AND DISABLED WHILE KNOWING THAT MANY
TIMES PEOPLE BORN IN BAD NEIGHBORHOODS NEVER HAD A
CHANCE TO KNOW THE RIGHT THING (PROBABLY BECAUSE MR
HENDON HAD THEM ALL ON WELFARE) AND THESE GANGS
MURDERERS NEVER KNEW RIGHT FROM WRONG. THEY DESERVED A
CHANCE IF THEY HADN'T KILLED A SENIOR OR A DISABLED
PERSON. AND MANY TIMES THEY WERE SET UP BY CROOKED
COPS IN THOSE AREAS RUN BY OLD TIME POLITICIANS. BRAVO
BRAVO BARACK OBAMA :) WOW YOU ARE THE MAN.

In 2003, with Democrats in control of the General
Assembly and Obama
readying his U.S. Senate run, he became a whirlwind of
legislative
activity. He secured passage of the nation's first law
to require police to
tape formal interviews and confessions of murder
suspects. He also won
passage of a law requiring police to record the race
of drivers they
stop for a study of racial profiling.

BRAVO BRAVO FOR LOOKING OUT FOR THE LESS FORTUNATE WHO
SUFFERED FOR MANY YRS UNDER LEADERS WHO KEPT THEM POOR
UNEDUCATED AND ON WELFARE.

The most awkward moment of Obama's legislative tenure
came in 1999.
Lawmakers in a special session considered restoring an
anti-gun violence
law struck down in court. The battle stalemated, and
Obama flew to
Hawaii for Christmas with his family.

Lawmakers were called back Dec. 29 to vote on a
compromise, but Obama
remained in Hawaii. The deal narrowly failed. Obama
later said his young
daughter had taken ill and he couldn't leave her, but
the incident
damaged his already-slim hopes of unseating Rush.

WELL AS WE WOULD ALL HOPE THAT OUR PARENTS WOULD LOOK
AFTER THEIR CHILDREN BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE BRAVO BRAVO
BRAVO. WHAT A FAMILY MAN :) :) :)

Legislators face an array of sensitive topics, but few
pack the
emotional and political wallop of abortion. Obama has
long publicly promoted
his support for abortion rights, but his voting record
in Springfield is
not simple to read.

Obama said he sought compromise with abortion
opponents, but they
balked. As a fallback, he said he worked out an
arrangement with
abortion-rights advocates to encourage Democrats to
vote "present" on some bills
if they feared a "no"would look insensitive and
endanger their
re-election.

WELL HE TRIED TO WORK WITH BOTH SIDES AND FOR THAT I
GIVE HIM THE UTMOST RESPECT. ABORTION IS A HARD TOPIC
AND MANY POLITICIANS WON'T EVEN TRY TO REACH OUT
ACROSS THE TABLE. BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO AND SO SENSATIVE
TOO .. WOW HE VOTED PRESENT TO BE CONSIDERATE OF THEIR
FEELINGS WOW I AM IN AWE WHAT A SWEET WONDERFUL MAN WE
HAVE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT.

But few of the other Democrats who voted "present" on
abortion bills
recall such a strategy. And, like Obama, they weren't
politically
vulnerable.

SO BARACK WAS ABLE TO TALK THOSE POLITICIANS INTO
BEING SENSATIVE TOO WOW BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO BARACK

Obama's friend Link offered another reason for the
strategy: to protect
those with plans for higher office. A "present" vote
helped "if you
have aspirations of doing something else in politics,"
Link said, "and I
think [Obama] looked at it in that regard."

WELL OF COURSE MY LINK IS OF THE "OLD SCHOOL'
POLITICIANS.. EVERYTHING HE THINKS HAS TO HAVE AN
ULTERIOR MOTIVE TO IT I BET. SHAME SHAME SHAME ON
LINK.

Illinois has a rich legacy of government scandal, and
Obama's campaign
resume plays up his role in trying to do something to
stop it. Jones
early on tapped him as the Senate Democratic point man
on ethics reform,
an unenviable task for a rookie lawmaker given that
Springfield
veterans were reluctant to embrace change and dispense
with perks. Many
resented him.

THANK GOD AND THANK CHICAGO ER CHICAGO SHOULD THANK
GOD FOR BARACK OBAMA.

Trotter said Obama swooped in "as the knight on the
white horse" and
made it sound as though everybody in Springfield,
except him, was
corrupt. "It wasn't appreciated."

HE MAY BE BLACK BUT HE IS MY KNIGHT ON A WHITE HORSE
ER BLACK HORSE THEY ARE BOTH PRETTY COLORED HORSES AND
WELL I REMEMBER BLACK BEAUTY :) SO BARACK LETS MAKE
THAT YOUR MY NIGHT ON A SHINNING BLACK HORSE :)

The ethics bill, Obama said, "was not a favorite of my
colleagues."

SURE THEY HAD THEIR OLD SCHOOL WAYS.. I BET THEY HATED
BARACK FOR THAT ROFLMAO

Obama also was in the thick of negotiations on a 2003
ethics package
that led to restrictions on gifts from lobbyists and
the appointment of
new inspectors general to hunt corruption in a variety
of state
agencies.

It also banned lawmakers from sending taxpayer-funded
promotional
mailings in the weeks before an election, an attempt
to clamp down on an
all-too-common practice that critics said was
tantamount to having the
state help bankroll incumbents' campaigns.

Obama wasn't big on sending newsletters to
constituents. In his first
seven years in the Senate, he did it only twice. But
in early 2004, as
he was gearing up for his U.S. Senate run, Obama
ordered his largest
newsletter mailing -- 75,000 copies.

YEA I DOUBT IT WAS BARACK WHO DID IT. PROBABLY WAS THE
OLD TIME POLITICIANS WHO PERSUADED HIS SECRETARY TO DO
IT TO MAKE BARACK LOOK BAD. AND IF BARACK DID IT WELL
HE HADN'T DONE IT AS IS REPORTED HERE FOR A FEW YRS.
SO HE DESERVED ONE MAILING.

Records show they hit the post office Jan. 30, two
days before the ban
Obama helped write was to take effect.

Obama said the impact was "nominal" because the
mailings only went to
voters in his state legislative district. "We abided
by the rules," he
said.

I AM SURE YOU DID EVERYTHING LEGAL AND THIS WRITER IS

'You're a very powerful guy'

Long before maverick Republican Sen. Peter Fitzgerald
decided not to
run for re-election in 2004, Obama approached his
mentor, Emil Jones, who
was preparing to lead a new Democratic majority in the
state Senate.

"You're a very powerful guy," Obama told Jones.

"I've got the power to do what?" Jones responded.

"You could help elect a U.S. senator," Obama said.

Jones asked his protege if he had anyone in mind.

"Yeah," Obama replied. "Me."

Obama's ambitions for higher office were an open
secret in Springfield,
but trying to make the leap to the U.S. Senate seemed
a long shot. He
was an unknown to most Chicago voters, let alone to
those in the rest of
the state. His loss to Rush was so lopsided even Obama
described it as
"a spanking."

He couldn't count on the support of some prominent
Black Caucus
members, including Hendon. In a recent interview, he
said Obama was so
ambitious that if the position were up for a vote,
Obama would run for "king
of the world."

Obama formally announced his campaign in January 2003,
more than a year
ahead of the primary. Jones, of course, was there.
Link, Walsh and
Jacobs also attended, illustrating that his support
transcended the black
community.

Hendon and Trotter were a tougher sell. Jones
eventually got them to
endorse Obama. Hendon said it took "seven or eight"
talks with Jones
before he finally decided to go along. And, Hendon
said, he only did it out
of loyalty to Jones.

Obama wasn't expecting the endorsement of either
Trotter or Hendon. He
asked Jones how he pulled it off.

"I made them an offer," Jones recalled telling Obama.
"And you don't
want to know."

Update on Event Time

I've gotten a few e-mails about my previous post regarding the start time tomorrow at the Electric Factory. One person kindly reminded me that the event was originally posted as a 2-hour event, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Another said that the official time to arrive has always been promoted as 4:00 p.m.
So, I want to be perfectly clear and emphasize that people get to the Electric Factory at or very near to 4:00. If for some reason you thought you could shoot into Philly after work, and arrive well after 4:00, you really do run a high risk of being locked out by the Secret Service and/or missing Barack speak. Not to mention, it will just put you in a bad mood for the rest of the week.
Do what you have to do to get there around 4:00, friends.

Kick Off Start Time: 4:00 Friends

I haven't seen the comments myself, but a fellow Chester County for Obama member just e-mailed me saying she has seen comments around the group blogs and listservs about folks coming to the Kick Off tomorrow as late as 6:15 p.m. I attended all three organizational meetings for the event, and they stressed time and again that people should arrive as close to 4:00 p.m. as possible. I'm not naive; I know that the organizers want to pack the place right out of the gate, but they also are allowing for screenings at the entrance by Secret Service.
I also heard that Barack would address the crowd not much more than an hour after people fill the building. Even allowing for delay, lateness, building excitement, etc. I think people arriving too much after 5:00, 5:30 at the outside, run the risk of missing him speak. Just letting you know so people don't get disappointed when they arrive at 5:45/6:00 or later.
Just remember, the official word is to arrive close to 4:00 p.m. See you there! (ooooh, I'm so excited....)

BARACK NEEDS YOU! YES, YOU!

I attended the last organizational meeting in Philly last night for Barack's May 22 visit. We still need to move some tickets. While it's fine to still do some online outreach by posting the ticket link all over the Internet, we need to concentrate on phone and face-2-face outreach over the next 4 days.

Please commit to spending at least one hour in the next four days to try to sell tickets. Ben Mundel (benmundel@gmail.com) has phone lists and is working with other volunteers to coordinate phone banks in Philly. You can also contact Ben and he'll e-mail you some phone numbers of previous campaign donators to call and try to sell tickets. You can make the calls from your home. How easy is that? Contact Ben now and help out on the phones. Folks with the golden touch who sell a lot of tickets can get free VIP seats on May 22. Big sellers can meet Barack at a backstage reception. Ben or another coordinator will give you all the instructions you need to make the phone calls.

If you are the more energetic type, make copies of the official event flyer and give them out during high pedestrian traffic times at a location in your community. If there is a festival going on this weekend, such as the May festival at Chester County Hospital, see if you can distribute flyers at the event. Some volunteers make up a sign saying they are selling tickets, with info about the event on it so that people can approach them for a flyer and already know the basic info. You can download copies of the FEC donor forms from the BarackObama.com Web site and have people fill out the form right there. They make checks payable to the Barack Obama campaign. Though they won't get a ticket in hand, you can assure them that their names will be on the guest list at the door and tell them to bring ID. It's easier to encourage people to go home and order tickets online so they get an e-mail confirmation to serve as a ticket.

If you can volunteer to hit the streets in Philly this weekend, and even Monday, there are a number of locations and events that we need to hit. Contact the campaign volunteer coordinator Garcia at mavinga@gmail.com. Tell Garcia when you are available and what you can do, and he'll hook you up with an assignment.

If you are attending the event Tuesday, and you better be *grin*, we can use ID checkers at the door. The Secret Service is checking out the site as I type and once the event coordinators have an idea of how the event flow will go, they'll be able to let you know where and when to go. In general, we need people to show up around 2:00 to get set up at entrances. Free t-shirt for volunteers on Tuesday. Again, e-mail Garcia and let him know when you are available Tuesday and that you want to help. He'll put you in the mix and keep you posted.

Flyer Distribution for Barack Obama's May 22nd Philadelphia Kickoff

I proceeded calmly and carefully, but I estimate that I distributed just over 600 flyers in 6 hours and 20 minutes on the sidewalks in Center City yesterday. It was a good experience, still "Whew." If you haven't done flyer distribution before, as best I can, I want to share with you learned strategy.

With so many people passing by so quickly, I believe it is necessary to quickly visually select who you are going to try to hand a flyer to and announce it with phrase such as: "Barack Obama coming to Philly on May 22nd." I observed their reactions to that phrase and did not force a flyer into anyone's hand. Perhaps 50% of the people who took the flyer wanted more information on the event and how to buy the ticket before they reached out to take it. I learned that it is best to make kind steady eye contact with the person you hope to hand the flyer to when they are still about 6 to 10 feet away from you if they are walking towards you.

You usually find a trail of discarded flyers as you walk away from a distributer--on the ground or in the nearest trashcan. I recommend that you observe people's reaction and wait for them to reach for the flyer that you are holding out before you give it to them. Doing this, I found only one (that's one) discarded flyer on the ground all day long.

Then, please hand out as many as you can. We still have a lot of work to do. As of today, May 8th, we still have to sell over 2000 tickets.

Barack Obama must be the next President of the United States, and he will be with our concerted efforts.

Organizational Meetings for Barack Obama's May 22 Visit

This is a long post, but it's important that you read it! I'm trying to put all the info you need for May 22 in one place.
i did somehow manage to get into Philly last night for the first of four organizational meetings to prep for the Senator's May 22 visit to Philly. It was well attended for such short notice. Philly's Danielle Clark has already sent around a post with contact information on the event coordinators, so I won't repeat that information here. However, I do want to clarify one thing: the next meeting is next Thursday, May 10, followed by one Thursday May 17, and likely a last-minute prep one on Monday May 21.
The goal of this event is FUNDRAISING. To that end, this really is one of the most reasonably-priced campain fundraising events I have ever seen; and I have seen a lot. The campaign is making an attempt to reach a broader group of people than they would at a $250 and up ticket event, but they still need to earn money, especially at this stage of the game. It's a matter of balance. Having said that, if you know someone who truly wants to go and truly can't afford it, get creative as Danielle said and try to get a donation from people you know can afford more to sponsor a student, elder, or other.
Right now, the top priority is selling tickets. In essence, we are gathering donations for the tickets, as far as campaign finance law sees it. While we don't have a hard ticket to hand-out this week, we should still collect ticket donations because we don't have a lot of time. The campaign would prefer us to direct people to their Web site for the simple reason that that method is the easiest way to meet FEC regulations and gather all the information required to get a ticket. Also, once the transaction is complete, you get an e-mail from the campaign that you print out and that serves as your entrance to the event. If you place an order for multiple tickets, the online form has a place where you must list the names of everyone who is attending on the tickets. The e-mail serves as entrance for all of the "ticketholders." I ordered 4 tickets, entered the names of my three companions, and we are all attending together. If you are not attending as a group, but still want to place one order, you can print out multiple copies of the e-mail to give to your friends. They must bring the e-mail and a photo ID to get in the door that day.
Ticket link: Link />At some point, the campaign Web site will have this link on the homepage under Upcoming Events, but they move the info and link to the homepage a certain number of days away from the event. In the meantime, you need to use the above link and direct people to that link.
Know that when I ordered multiple tickets, I was making the donation under my name and I answered the FEC questions. If someone wants you to buy tickets for them and gives you cash or a check, but has no access to the Internet, you must have them give you the information required by the FEC. There is a donation form at the Obama web site that you can print.
Link />It would be easiest for you to carry around a couple copies of the form. Have the donator fill out the information, you enter it at the ticket link on the web site for them, and then give them a hard copy of the e-mail confirmation to serve as their ticket. Down the road there will be a "hard ticket" that you can immeditatly hand to people who want a ticket, but you still need to gather their personal information in a campaign donation form.
You want to get credit for any ticket you directly or indirectly sell. On the online form, there is a box at the bottom that asks the person to indicate who encouraged them to make the donation and attend. Make sure people enter your name. The hard copy donation form that you print from the Web site, does not have that box, so make sure you write your name as the person who encouraged or made the sale when you turn in cash or checks with the form. You will have to tell people who give you cash or a check, and fill out the form, that you need to turn it in to the campaign at a Thursday meeting, and will get a ticket to them soon after that. People who sell a lot of tickets and/or are innovative in ways to get the word out, will be invited to a small pre-event gathering with the Senator. Barack wants to meet organizers personally and talk to them, since he started out as an organizer himself. It's sort of close to his heart.
I will be going to the rest of the meetings at this point. Anyone who wants to attend the May 22 event, please jump online and order a ticket NOW. Help others order. Please name you and/or me as the person who encouraged you/others to buy a ticket. Personally, try to sell at least one or two other tickets to family and friends, even if you cannot attend May 22. If any of them don't use the online process and you collect a check or cash from them, contact me at sue@inkspiration.com, I'll get the forms and money from you, turn them in on Thursday, and get the tickets back to you if you cannot attend the meeting next week or the week after. I carpooled with someone in Chadds Ford from the Brinton shopping center on Rt. 1 near 322 if anyone wants to meet me/us there next Thursday around 6:00 p.m. and go to the meeting. While ticket-selling is the area that needs the most enthusiasm and energy right now, there are three other sub-committees: research, online, alliance-building. People volunteering for research duties are collecting contact information for various organizations and community groups in the Philly area, so that ticket-sellers know who to contact groups.People doing the online gig are committing to sending out e-mail blasts to groups of people, telling them about the event, etc., posting messages on various blogs around the country, getting the event placed on various online calendars and working with social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace. Alliance-builders are those folks who might already have contacts at any number of organizations in the tri-state area, who can smooth the way for a pitch to participate in the event. These can be nonprofit groups, political groups, union groups, community groups, whatever. The key is to get the word out in a concerted, coordinated way.
If you think you might like to help out in one of the other areas, let Khari Mosley know and he'll put you in touch with the right subcommittee coordinator. This event is really word-of-mouth and we need everyone's help in moving tickets. If you cannot attend, then please think about committing to at least selling a few tickets. The Mayoral primary in Philly is May 15, so we expect things to heat up for this event after that is out of the way, BUT in the meantime, we need to lay as much groundwork as we can.
One last thing, some folks are not familiar with the Electric Factory facility. It is fully handicapped accessible, but the main floor is open space. There is not seating and the event is pretty much SRO, but we did talk about having an area of chairs that would be available to people not in wheelchairs, but with mobility impairments and the inability to stand during the event. Please be sure to note if a ticket purchaser might require a seat. There is a balcony of seating the circles above the main floor and as of now, that is the VIP seating. Some people questioned whether the view from the balcony is good, since some concert set-ups make balcony seating hard, but I would think that they will set up the main floor so that the VIPs seats will be able to see everything (RIGHT GUYS?). I would also think that the Senator would walk the balcony area at some point to great people up there (RIGHT AGAIN, GUYS?) Philly's DJ King Britt will provide the tunes, so expect the place to be loud and full of excitement. I'll post more information as I find it out.
Get out there, sell, sell, sell. Come to a meeting. Buy a ticket. Help out on an event subcommittee. There are all sorts of things you can do...just do something.
