In 8 months, President Obama has accomplished more for our country than has been done in the past 50 years! There is much debate regarding the proposed health care plan. There may be issues resulting from lobbyists and Republicans fighting the proposal, but based on the history of the economy in the past 8 months, I have seen the property values increasing; I have seen gas prices lowering; I have seen groceries becoming more affordable; I have seen people finding jobs; and I have heard less about home foreclosures. So, based on this past 8 month history showing improvement we have not seen in the past 8 years, I believe the Obama health care plan will work. The issue is not the plan, but whether or not people will give the plan an opportunity to work. There are so many lies regarding the health care plan, that people are confused and fear tactics are working. But given the fact that I am now in a better financial situation than I was in January 2009, I am willing to give the plan an opportunity to work before I shoot it out of the water.
Americans are used to fast food service. We expect to snap our fingers and have results, rather than giving time an opportunity to prove results. We have waited for 8 years to see change. Now, Americans are stating our President is a failure because there was no immediate change 24 hours within his taking office. Friends, we cannot expect over night results. It has taken 8 years to create this financial disaster we are currently in, and it has taken much longer to create the problems we are currently facing in the field of health care. Give the man a chance to let his plan work! Stop snapping your fingers and expecting over night results. The problems didn't occur over night, and they won't go away over night.
I personally believe our President has not led us down a path to destruction, and I continue to support him. If you want real change, then give him the opportunity to make that change. There are a lot of entities, including media, who are bashing his efforts, and claiming failure, when he has only begun to make the changes he has promised. Change takes time. We allowed our former President 8 years to make changes, and no efforts were made to accomplish change. President Obama has been making every effort to effect the change we need, while some Americans are becoming impatient. They do not understand the opposition he is facing. They are also not helping to implement change by switching horses in midstream. Winning means you put your shoulder to that grindstone and push, no matter how hard it is! Change will not come over night. But don't give up. We have a President who WILL make those changes happen, if we all continue to support him. Stop listening to the media, and go to the Washington website and read what is being done to benefit YOU!. The media are about one agenda; becoming popular so they can get a bigger pay raise, so they expound on the negative to be on the top of the list for "breaking news." The media is biased. They all have an agenda to promote self. If you want facts, go to the source of the facts, and stop listening to biased media coverage. Stop going to websites that are bogus, filled with lies, inuendo, fear tactics, and confusion. Go to the source and read for yourself the facts as proposed by our President. http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/health_care/
President Obama, I support you! I back you 100%!!! I am patiently waiting. Health care is a vital issue with me, because I am a disabled widow. I am not senile, I am not ignorant, and I am educated. I know that over my lifetime, I have seen more effort made on my behalf since President Obama has been in office, than in the past 50 years, and that speaks volumes to me!
Give our President time. He didn't win the election without fighting his way to the top. He needed our support then, and he needs it now! Don't bail in the middle of the war. We still have a hill to overtake. That hill is the opposition to the health care plan. The health care plan is not a drive through window at McDonalds. It's a full course meal, which takes time to prepare. Instead of complaining that the table is not set, get in the kitchen and go to work to help fix the meal. Continue your support for our President.
Let's go change the world...

A major milestone
Today President Obama is celebrating the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as a "major milestone on our road to recovery," while still emphasizing that we have many miles yet to go. "This historic step won't be the end of what we do to turn our economy around, but the beginning," he says in his weekly address. To get us there, he invokes President Kennedy, who said, "Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for powers equal to your tasks." President Obama acknowledges that some people are skeptical about the plan given how Washington has performed in the past, which is why he's encouraging people to check back at Recovery.gov -- the site where, once the plan is in action, you'll be able to track the funds. "Utlimately, this is your money, and you deserve to know where it's going and how it's spent," he says. Watch the address below. function loadSWF(url){ var params = { allowscriptaccess: "always", allowfullscreen: "true" }; swfobject.embedSWF(url, "flashcontent", "480", "295", "8", null, {}, params); }

Republicans should be ashamed of themselves. President Obama has reached out to them to engage them in a process of uniting to create a recovery package that will work for the American people. They have chosen the path of obstructionism and obfuscation. They have good reason. Their political lives are at risk. However, the real shame is on US, the people of this nation. We continue to be led down the primrose path by our inability to see the truth about ourselves, our inability to know reality.
At this time of great national crisis, you would think that the American people would take a close look at the record over the last several decades (and that includes the era of Bill Clinton) to understand that "trickle down economics" is a sham that destroys good government and establishes a corporate welfare system that sustains the privileges of extremely rich people and tramples the lives of middle class and lower income people. The outcomes of such policy are now evident. Thousands are losing their jobs and their homes. The "American Dream" as it has been sold to us is now, for many, the "American Nightmare."
We learned yesterday from the New York Times online of the hardships being faced by those who might have to live on $500K annually, the failed CEO's who continue to take their bonuses after losing billions of dollars. What is completely remarkable, however, is the arrogance of the Republican minority. In the face of a strong mandate for change in the last election and the fact that the very foundations upon which they have built their political capital have collapsed into the sink hole that's swallowing our entire economy and destroying thousands of peoples' lives, they remain adamantly committed to the policies that are producing such destructive outcomes for all of us. And, we are giving them credence for God's sake!
The time for change has come. Nothing to be afraid of. It is what it is. We will learn, although our suffering will have to be great. The policies that our Republican friends say are the "solution to our country's economic meltdown," simply don't work. Yes, we can take some measure of learning from these policies - personal responsibility, good stewarship, an understanding that government can't solve all of our problems. These values are always in style; however, let's put away the voodoo economics, the favoring of the privileged, rich and well-connected, and the shaming of good government. These are not our nation's values and they certainly are bad policy.
Alexis de Toqueville said that in a democracy, the people get a government they deserve." Let's make sure that we get good government back and eliminate once and for all the thinking that says that "government is the problem" and if we keep unproductive rich people rich, things will be OK. Obama is right to fight for accountability and stewardship in government. Let's help him achieve this important goal - for our own sake and the sake of the future of our democracy.

White House MemoAlready Back on the Trail, Now to Sell a Stimulus PlanBy JEFF ZELENYPublished: February 9, 2009President Obama will travel this week in an effort to build support for his economic stimulus plan.http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/09/us/politics/09obama.html?partner=permalink&exprod=permalink
The United States is a land of opportunity. Most poor and low income people who are interested in ownership can get into the equity game by buying a home, increasing its value through hard work, neighborhood involvement, and, hopefully, taking advantage of an economy that is strong enough to increase the home’s value. This has been a recipe for success and a proven method for building the middle class throughout the the last half century.
If one believes in this “American Dream,” home-ownership has been a good bet for most people. Of course, we’ve seen that “dream” dashed by the greed and opportunism of a rapacious, unregulated financial sector that has preyed on the poor and the middle class for quick profits. They’ve just about destroyed our economy in the process with thousands of people losing their jobs and their homes.
The premise of people “buying into” the economy through homeownership, however, is still a good idea. When people have a stake in their own economic well-being and a place to be engaged in community-building, everyone wins. This is how the promise and responsibility of our democracy should be empowered.
A national housing trust fund is an idea whose time has come. Well, it has come already, but the government hasn’t seen fit to really fund it properly. In Missouri, the state Housing Trust Fund, created by a small amount of money that comes through every real estate transaction ($8, I believe) provides funding for affordable housing, transitional housing, renovation, and investments in Continuums of Care to End Homelessness. These efforts are badly needed in Missouri and throughout our nation. In addition to spurring the economy by rapidly disbursing funds for construction and housing-related jobs, a trust fund would strengthen the ability of local Continuums of Care to End Homelessness to create and operate transitional housing and permanent supportive housing for those in need, cutting our homeless populations, and saving taxpayers millions of dollars in spending on social services that are incurred when homeless people access emergency rooms and city services.
In Missouri, the Real Estate lobby has opposed increasing the $8 fee. They see it as a “tax” and have furiously and vociferously argued against any increase. I believe that if most people understood what these dollars are used for, they would gladly pay a much larger fee. As a part of a real estate transaction that may be worth 100’s of 1,000’s of dollars, what’s an additional few dollars when you understand that these dollars are going to programs that leverage and provide gap-funding for the homebuilding industry, supporting low-income and middle class people so that they can buy into the “American Dream.” The Real Estate industry is being short-sighted. These extra dollars build their business but they would rather play politics than do something that would be good for all of us, including their own sector.
The time has come for adequate funding of housing trust funds. Funding the National Housing Trust Fund through the stimulus package is one direction. Increasing the funding for the Missouri Housing Trust Fund is another.
Benjamin Franklin was right. Either we all hang together or we will assuredly all hang separately. Obama’s message of unity is needed now more than ever. Let’s work together to build new homes, strengthen the prospects of the poor and the middle class and rebuild our economy.

IntroductionBarack Obama is set to make historic and long term changes to the federal judiciary. While novice legal observers tend to focus only on the Supreme Court the bulk of federal appeals case law is made by lower courts. In the United States there are 94 districts which are organized into 12 federal circuits. This includes the DC Circuit, which is often viewed as the most influential appeals court due to its review of agencies of the federal government (FEC, EPA, CIA, etc). There is also a federal circuit which hears specialized cases such as those involving patent law. The judges of these 13 courts are described in detail below in terms of the political affiliation of the appointing Presidents. DisclaimerThis is an analysis of the political affiliation appointing federal appeals court judges as determined by the political party of the Presidents who appointed them, it is not necessarily descriptive of the ideology of the judges. As many of you are aware the Supreme Court contains several fairly liberal justices who were appointed by Republicans. The ideological breakdown might be 5 conservatives and 4 liberal justices, whereas the political affiliation is 7 to 2. In addition, the political affiliation of the President appointing them may not necessarily indicate the political allegiance of the judge him/herself. Nevertheless, it does give us a basic idea of the composition of the federal appeals courts. MethodsI have used wikipedia articles and verified the information using the court's various websites. The number of authorized judges were verified using a 2005 Congressional Research Service Report from the University Of North Texas Libraries at the following link: http://digital.library.unt.edu/govdocs/crs/data/2005/meta-crs-8249.tkl
ClarificationsThe DC Circuit is losing a seat and the 9th Circuit is gaining a seat. This change was a part of the Court Security Improvement Act of 2007 and goes into effect on January 21, 2009.You might have noticed that Judge Roger Gregory on the 4th Circuit was appointed by both party’s Presidents. Clinton appointed him to the 4th Circuit in 2000, the Senate never acted on the appointment, Clinton appointed him as a recess appointment, and he was later appointed by Bush in 2001. As you can imagine, this does not happen very frequently.

I work for the St. Louis Beacon, the new online publication started by several former editors from the Post-Dispatch. The Beacon is in partnership with KETC/Channel 9 and has recently started using a new journalism tool called the Public Insight Network. We use the network to reach out to people in our area for help in covering the news that matters to you. Today we are asking questions about what people remember about the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, and whether they are planning on attending the inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States. Were you in Washington in 1963? Will you be there in January 2009? The Beacon and Channel 9 want to learn what you recall about the 1963 March, when Martin Luther King spoke of his dream for America; and about your plans for the day when the senator from Illinois takes his place in history, as a realization of King's dream. Please visit the Beacon at www.stlbeacon.org. Near the top of the home page, just below our name, you will find the question, as well as a link to explain more about the Public Insight Network. Or you can go directly the question at http://tinyurl.com/inauguration2009 We look forward to hearing from you, and ask you to share this with anyone who may have insight to share. By doing so, you can help the Beacon and KETC/Channel 9 report on the news that matters to you. Please call me if you have any questions. My cell number is 314- 304-3790.
Thanks.

Obama did significantly better in Missouri compared to 2004 though it appears that he will lose Missouri by less than .1% or around 3,000 votes out of 2,883,610. Missouri is the only state left to not be called for either candidate. How did he do it and what does he need to do to carry the state in 2012?Southwest Missouri
Obama improved in every county in Southwest Missouri (SWMO) relative to the 2004 election. This area is considered Missouri’s most reliable Republican stronghold and the only whole part of the state Bill Clinton lost in 1992 and 1996. Most notably Obama improved significantly in Greene County, SWMO’s most populous county with 240,391 people or 356 persons per square mile (Census, 2000). Kerry lost Greene County (Springfield metro) by 25% and Obama lost by 16% an improvement of 9%. Obama improved by the same amount in SWMO’s second most populous county, Jasper County (Joplin metro) losing the county by 33% instead of 42%. Southeast Missouri
In Southeast Missouri Obama fared the worst especially in the Bootheel. However, the majority of SEMO counties still reflected the statewide improvement for the Democratic Party’s nominee. Pemiscott County along the Mississippi river and in the Missouri Bootheel experienced the greatest percentage in vote shift in favor of the Republicans than any county in Missouri. This is surprising given that this county has a significant African American population for rural Missouri (26%, the second highest concentration in the State). Obama did 13% worse there than Kerry did in 2004. In Shannon County Missouri Obama improved by 10%. Obama also did well in Iron County which Kerry lost by 7% and Obama carried by 3%, which was 1 of the 9 counties carried by the President elect. Central Missouri
Obama improved in all of central Missouri. In three counties the vote shift in favor of the Democratic nominee was in the double digits relative to 2004. In 2004 Kerry lost in every county in central Missouri. The most dramatic vote shift occurred in Boone county Missouri, home of Missouri University. This county was split basically 50-50 in 2004 and 2000. Obama won Boone by 12% gaining more than 10,000 votes. Obama even did better in this county than Bill Clinton in both 1992 and 1996. He beat Hillary Clinton there 61%-37%. Boone County has a significant educated and young population compared to state averages. A likely demographic target for the historic Obama campaign ground game. Northern Missouri
The only county Obama carried in the entire northern part of the state was Buchanan County and he only carried it by 47 votes. The only County Obama won in the Missouri primaries against Hillary Clinton was Nodaway County where he also improved relative to Kerry, likely because of the presence of Northwest Missouri State University. Kansas City
While Obama limited the damage in rural Missouri he also ran up the numbers in the urban centers. Kerry won Jackson County 58%-41%, Obama carried the county 62%-37%. While an 8% swing may not seem like a lot, in a well populated county it amounts to tens of thousands of votes. He gained approximately 85,000 votes out of Jackson County, while Kerry gained about 50,000 and Gore about 55,000. St. Louis Metro Area
In St. Louis City, Obama improved about 8% relative to 2004. In fact, he out-performed Bill Clinton in St. Louis City by 16% in 1992 and 11% in 1996. Obama gained 108,000 votes out of St. Louis City compared to the following vote gains from previous Democratic nominees: Kerry +89,000, Gore +72,000, Clinton (1996) +69,000, Clinton (1992) 77,000. St. Louis County swung massively to the President elect. He improved by 11% from 2004 and 11% in the States most populated county amounted to a staggering gain of more than 110,000 votes. Kerry only gained about 50,000 votes from this County, Gore about 25,000. Obama carried the county by 20% or 60%-40%. Obama carried three counties directly south of St. Louis County. Obama won in Washington county by 9 votes, carried Jefferson County by about 3,000 votes, and won Ste. Genevieve County by 56%. How to turn Missouri blueObama did what he needed to do to win Missouri. He limited the rural spreads and increased the urban vote impressively. Simply doing what was done but doing it .1% more would turn Missouri blue.Obama should be able to improve spreads in the Bootheel. This area is not vote rich by any means but there is no reason whatsoever that it should be trending Republican. Who was in charge of GOTV there? I recommend promoting and hiring Cecil Hinds-Riddle who was instrumental in swinging SWMO. I also believe the key to winning Missouri in 2012 will need to include the addition of a focus on suburban Missouri. For example, if Obama can win Clay and Ray counties just north of KC (counties Al Gore carried in 2000) it might be the Republican nominee with a sudden interest in provisional ballots.
I would just like to extend my deepest congratulations to President Elect, Barack Obama and his lovely wife Michelle. Way to go guys!! But more importantly I want to sincerely thank all of the thousands of hard working volunteers out there who made this dream a reality. Hats off to all of those who worked so very hard and sacrificed so much in getting the job done. Thank you troops!!
We all can now look forward to a much better and brighter America for ourselves and our children. There's no doubt that America got it right this time. Barack Obama won by a huge landslide victory last night and it feels great!!!! Thanks again to all of his supporters who made this historic movement for "change" possible. God bless you all!

Thanks be to God for Barack Hussein Obama!
And God Bless America!
As the Poynter Sisters once told us, I know we can make it. I know that we can!
YES WE CAN!!
From Rob Kall at Op-Ed News:Don't go to work today. Don't stay home. Work as a volunteer in the early AM, then vote between 10 and 3 when the polls are least busy, then work some more. When the polls close where you live, start making calls for other states, other candidates. Keep going until you drop. You will be a part of history either way. Make sure you know you've done all you can, not just for your presidential candidate, whoever he or she is, but also for congressional legislators all over the nation. Share your experience of the day with other OEN folks. Use this Diary:Voting Day Open Thread-- Post reports, observations, Thoughts Links Let us know what you're feeling, seeing, doing. Me, I was up at 3:30 AM, unable to sleep, thinking about vote theft. I found my other half had been up with the election on her mind since 2:30. I leave in five minutes to work the early shift at the polls.I spoke to my "ex" last night. She's a born-again who votes strictly on abortion (she wasn't when we met and married) and even she said she and her church people are saying prayers for whoever wins. I guess, if McCain wins, the world needs the US to go down the tubes, because it surely will, strangled, blinded, gelded, starved and tortured by right wing extremist traitors to democracy. But I am fearfully hopeful today. We'll see how it goes, right? It's all we can do, besides work our asses off today. And, BTW, there were plenty of people in their seventies and eighties out canvassing, knocking on doors and phone banking over the weekend, and people in wheel-chairs. What's your excuse for not doing MORE today?Laying the guilt on heavy today, rob kall -- Together, we can change the world, one mind at a time.Have a great day,Tommy
Its Get Out The Vote weekend. Massive groups of volunteers heading out the door with door hangers and flyers. Everything is becoming a blur. I'm so tired, but so keyed up I can't sleep at night.
We are a well oiled machine now. Volunteers come in the door, we train them, send them on their way, work, work, work. Last night I got a call on my cell phone. Conference call from Barack Obama. Me and 20,000 other volunteers across the country on hold to hear from The Man himself.
The pep talk was thrilling, but what stood out in my mind was the comment that he knew we were all tired, but we could sleep after election day. Ah, sleep.
Three more shifts of canvassers tomorrow. We have to finish all our packets, make sure all our supporters hear from us one more time.
Then its election day... open the staging location at five a.m., all my polling place volunteers in place by 5:30. What will happen? Will we have a record breaking turnout or will the long lines turn away our newly registered supporters? Will I survive the day?
No matter what happens on Tuesday, I'm sleeping in on Wednesday.
Hmm... we WILL carry Missouri... then I will sleep in on Wednesday.
Peace,
Bonnie
