A few days ago George Lakeoff a Distinguished Professor of Cognitive Science and Linguistics at the University of California at Berkeley wrote a very interesting article for the Huffington Post about his observations of how each of the Democratic front-runners approach “issues”.
For anyone who wants to better understand the key difference between Obama and Clinton it is well worth the two minutes of time to put into context some of what you see every day playing out in the media and why momentum continues to build behind the Barack Obama campaign.

Watching all the post debate spin and analysis (including the A.M. shows) is proving interesting to say the least. At WORST, it seems that Obama has pulled a draw (which is as good as a win really given HRC's status as defacto incumbant), but for hte most part, it seems that he won on style and points.
Most pundits are talking about the war aspect...that Obama scored points by saying that not only he'd be rady from day one, but RIGHT from day one.
Morevover, everyone is talking about Barack's simply sitting with HRC was akin to Kennedy vs, Nixon. Which is, IMO something of a reach, but I'll take it.
Keep it going:
1) CALL
2) DONATE
3) TALK to friends and relatives
4) DONATE AGAIN.

Anyone who attempted to go to the townhall meeting last night at municipal auditorium was sure in for a surprise about the number of people who showed up! I was one of the unlucky ones who could not be there to line up at 3:45, so after 2 1/2 hours of waiting in line I threw in the towel at 6:30pm. Noone there could BELIEVE how many people showed up; everyone thought the incliment weather would disuade people... normal people yes, but not OBAMA people! The consensus among the collective crowd that unless you were there before the doors opened you were NOT getting in. Still, I enjoyed comiserating with fellow like-minded people and was thrilled to see how diverse and committed KC supporters are. When Obama comes nxt time he needs the Sprint Center or Kemper!
Today, after my failed attempt at getting involved last night, I dropped by the Obama KC campaign headquarters on Main. I helped call Edwards supporters to encourage them to give their vote to Obama and am pleased to say that every single one I talked to did! This momentum will be great for the campaign! We really need more volunteers, so if you want to help either show up at office from 9-9 or give them a call 816-531-1108 for information. They can even set you up to make campaign calls from the privacy of your home if you have internet acces!!! How could getting involved be ANY easier???? The next few days are CRITICAL!!!!! Let's be the change we want to see & GET OUT THE VOTE!
Last night Barack Obama was with us in the Municipal Auditorium and it was INCREDIBLE!
The crowd filled every square inch of the space (and of the space outside) with energetic support. There's no doubt about it--a movement is afoot.
I personally was struck by the diversity of the crowd, the generosity and gentleness of spirit of so many packed like sardines in a crowded room, and the unity we find in our support of Barack Obama.
What was your experience? Were you there? Were you outside? Did you catch it on television? Reply to this post--tell us about it. Share in the spirit!
My thoughts on the presidential candidate I met...
Went to the Municipal Auditorium this evening, squeezed in with the crowd and waited in line. Long line but very calm crowd.
There are some things worth waiting 2 or 3 hours for considering the lifetime we wait for change. After being introduced, Barak lit a fire under the audiance. I don't say that to mean it was like a rock concert or football game, I wonder why people keep saying that?? It was more like, in my opinion, he energized the hearts and minds of citizens to provoke a united thought process. He makes us think...that's a president.
Isn't that what we want for our children, for all American children to have the best of education so they are set out into a world ready to take on anything that may come?
Isn't that what we want for our Health care system, doctors, nurses, technicians, janitors, receptionists and so on, for our best to offer health care workers could get on with their work inspired by the leader of the free world, energized in the knowledge that their government cares what is happening and will support them for a greater purpose?
Isn't that what we want for our military, to know that they are led by a united country, that they are supported when we face the troubled times such as these, that the agenda would pass through our congress with a process of thought and sophisticated wisdom and decidedly send them out to protect our nation, rather than lying to the public and each other (on both sides)? Barak Obama stood up for them when it was not popular to do so, he is not a rock star, he is not an athlete, he is not a horse, he is a politician who understands humility, and will help America to reflect on her own.
Hillary Clinton gets a lot of attention on these issues because for the most part each candidate shares the same ideas, only one candidate has taken this a step further, convincing those he reaches out to that he is being honest about those ideas. I heard Hillary on MSNBC talking about how she tells voters her agenda (point by point, we know), one candidate takes it a step further, convicing those he reaches out to that he understands our (voters) agenda, that he wishes to make our agenda his policy.
Not only is Barak Obama the most qualified candidate, he is a listening candidate.
It was an amazing event seeing the next president of the United States of America. It was an amazing speech, and more.
HI ALL!
It's been so wonderful to check my email and see so many emails asking "how can I help?"
I'm so excited ...and will hook you all up with the people you need to meet one at a time.
Sen. Obama is in town tomorrow (in Kansas City) and the office is all CRAZY getting ready for that so I can't get your individual answers out tonight---BUT if you're online--you don't need me to get you started.
If you haven't done it already go to www.mybarackobama.com and sign up for an account. It's free and easy--AND it has suggestions for how you can help. The suggestions that come up might be as easy as writing Thank you Notes to some people in high traffic campaign offices.
I hope this helps you get stared while I'm in the process of getting back to everyone individually.
I had only heard about Barack Obama about a month or two before the Iowa caucus. So as we got closer to that causus date I decided to do some research on him. I had already known a lot about Hillary and Edwards and the person that recommended reading up on Obama was a fairly intelligent friend of the family. I went to the website and read over the issues section and the thing that struck me first was the detail it went into. His stances had impressed me but I’ve always been pretty cynical about politicians, so I wasn’t blown away; until I read one of his speeches. I can’t even remember which one it was because I’ve read so many now. I think it was the 2004 DNC speech though. That speech is what turned the tide for me and everything I read and watched subsequently only furthered my support. I was still just a passive supporter at that time, but I decided to donate to his campaign and I had never given to a campaign before. As time went on the democratic election progressed and although Iowa was a great victory the close races in New Hampshire and Nevada had shaken me up a bit. My cynicism was rearing its ugly head and I had a major decision to make about who I was as a person. My integrity and morals were at stake in my mind. I had always said that when a great leader presented themselves in politics that I would stand up for that person without hesitation. Was I lying to myself? And what if that person doesn’t get elected and I didn’t do everything in my power to help them? Could I look at myself in the mirror after that? I had made my decision at that very second and fully committed to being an active supporter of Barack Obama’s road to change. For me it was a decision between right and wrong and I had to stand up.

Just days after the largest newspaper in South Carolina endorsed Barack Obama, the largest newspaper in Missouri the St. Louis Post Dispatch endorsed Obama as well.
As momentum continues to build for the Obama campaign there is another voice in the media calling for real change and opening the door to a brighter future for the country and the world.
One of my favorite paragraphs from the editorial titled:Barack Obama: The new generation
Barack Obama is aware of yesterday, but he is about today and tomorrow and next year. In a strong field of Democratic presidential contenders, he offers the best hope of transforming the debate and moving on to what America can be in the 21st century.
One of our biggest volunteers was just seen passing by choclate cake for a mouthful of CHECK THIS OUT
And just so you know we're not faking you out with the old "posing with green veggies trick"
We can't promise that bringing your family along to volunteer means that they'll volunteer to eat veggies--but we can promise they'll get a little HOPE in their diet!
A dedicated and enthusiastic group of us has gathered in our Kansas City office to make calls, organize online and do everything we can to get Barack Obama into the White House! One of our volunteers was kind enough to bring some home made spaghetti and meatballs feast by to sustain our volunteers. See fully loaded snack table below. It's enthusiasm like hers, that lets us know we're not alone in our hope- or in our community. We know others of you are out there-- and we don't expect you to cook ;) but we'd love you to come out to the office and lend a hand doing whatever it is you do best. We can do it, together.
