Marlboro College for Obama
Marlboro College. Barack Obama. Change the World. Need I say more. I know you're probably the typical, cynical Marlboro student, but we really have a once-in-a-generation chance to affect positive global change. We're close to NH (key early primary), so our efforts Really Can make a difference. Let's get out there and Win!

1) Ice Cream Social:
This was an idea that we were all pretty psyched about. The plan is to get a bunch of
ice cream and some sunday toppings and have a big campus-wide social, maybe some lazy
afternoon. We decided to try to have it after April 22nd, which is when we have our next
meeting with Southern Vermonters for Obama. We were undecided about two things involving
this project:
1-- Where should the money come from? I expressed concerns about us funding this out
of our own pockets, I would rather have a budget for our group which we could use.
Fronting things out of pocket could get expensive. It was suggested that we seek either
town meeting funds, or corporate donations. I have hesitations about both of these.
I don't think town meeting can give funds for political stuff. I also think that
corporations will not want to donate (and might be restricted from doing so) especialy
until after the primaries. Also, if the larger campaigns will be asking for donations
from the same companies, we don't want to get in their way by requesting small stuff.
I think that our best option at this point is to try to get funding from the larger
campaign, or try to raise the money ourselves.
2-- Should we charge people for Ice Cream. This one was really up in the air. Should
we treat this like a fundraiser, or more like an informational social gathering?
2) Next Meeting:
Our next meeting will be the Thursday after break in the Campus Center. I forget if we
decided a time or not, so if anyone knows, please send it out on the listserve. The agenda
so far is:
1-- Ice Cream Social
2-- Southern Vermonters Meeting Prep
3-- Recruiting
4-- Informational Session / Bake Sale on campus
If anyone has anything else they'd like to add, please feel free to do so.
3) Bake Sale:
I had proposed that we try to organize a bake sale or some other sort of small fundraiser
on campus. I want to do this so that we have some small amount of an operating budget.
This would allow us to fund things like the Ice Cream Social as a group instead of out of
pocket. We were thinking that the second week back from break would be a good time for this.
4) Informational Session:
We agreed that we should have some sort of a public informational session the second week
after break. It might coincide with the bake sale, or might not. Anyway, the purpose would
be to have some sort of presentation and Q&A session for people who are currently uninformed
about Obama and his policies etc.

Hello Everyone,
First of all, thanks for signing up on
my.barackobama.com
. This is going to be a very important networking tool, and I hope all of you take advantage of it.
Secondly, yesterday Myself, Matt, and Michelle met with the Southern Vermonters for Obama group
Link
They are going to be working closely with the Vermont and National networks. Some of them have worked with the Democratic party, and they'll be handling the big money fund raisers and such. What we should be focussed on is the foot-work. As college students, we don't have the money, but we have the dedication and people power. I've started networking with the administrators for college groups in the area. If you wish to contact them separately, you can find them in my list of friends on my profile. Send them a friend request, and you'll be able to link with them on your own. Southern Vermonters for Obama want us to handle this type of networking so that when the time comes we can mobilize large numbers of college students to do big events. The major campaigns in New Hampshire will probably start in April or May, so by that time, we should have as many people as possible ready to get over there and win the primary. When working in NH, we should put ourselves at the disposal of the Keene or Dartmouth groups and not encroach on their territory. That's why it's important to establish these links now.
Diane (with Southern Vermonters for Obama) will be meeting with Philip Baruth sometime in the coming weeks. Phillip is kind of the head of the Vermont campaign, and also a frequent commentator on Vermont Public Radio. He'll be coordinating all the different Vermont chapters, and we should find out his directives soon. He'll also be getting campaign materials, talking points, and merchandise for us. Until then, the best thing we can do is build our group, and get a structure in place so that when the time comes, we can mobilize quickly.
I'd like to meet with all of you sometime this week so that we can brainstorm and organize. I was thinking that Wednesday at 2:15 would be a good meeting time, but if any of you have conflicts, let me know, and we can change it around. Thanks a lot,
Ryon
