Face it republicans are GREAT at getting a message across to the common people. To get them to believe it. To get them emotionally behind it. To even get them to support and defend it. (if palin was on the democrat ticket, don't u think they'd be ripping her apart for letting her kid have a kid at 17?*) And that is what their convention was. It doesn't matter that it lacked depth. It doesn't matter how absurd it is that the republicans are saying they are the change we've been waiting for from, uh... themselves? They got a message across. Obama is BAD. America is GOOD. Liberal is BAD. That they can do this, well sucks. But it works. There has to be a response that can disarm and nullify it in one motion. I thought this is where the "DIFFUSION" I talk about could come in. I thought it could be a subtle non intrusive way to take some attack and break it down to an issue. But I'm not sure how subtle it can be anymore. Maybe it has to be coming from a neutral source. Using the same tactics to get people's attentions on an emotional level that they are being used/swayed to believe in something with a knee jerk reaction. I'm not sure but something has to be done because its gonna get worse and worse. Only 60 days left until we vote.
Lets do something about this *for the record i don't think its fair to talk about in terms of palin being a bad parent. i think it IS fair game when you can see that she's abstinence ONLY education which is known NOT to work and we can SEE the outcome.
A description of a group I tried to created
If anyone wants to help let me know
--- Turn Kansas Blue: District 2* This group is about turning Kansas BLUE. By focusing on District #2 we can help push the state in favor of Obama. Now I've been to SE Kansas many times. I've seen the towns that are suffering from a bad economy. These are the people that can benefit DIRECTLY from Obama with investments in Green Jobs and cuts to middle class taxes. They just don't know it. There are many ways we can reach people. Writing to District #2 news papers, calling people in D2, or putting up flyers. And all these could be focus on the bigger cities to help spread the word. Personally I'm always in favor of mailers that could reach people in rural areas. The mailers could focus on diffusing people's anger that has been ignited by the republicans (which they are good at) and get them to focus on the real ISSUES.
This blog is targeted towards students in the Manhattan, KS area, mostly. I am the field organizer for the Kansas Democratic party and we're hiring interns starting now and continuing through November (or starting when school gets back and continuing through November). We're looking for people to focus on the following:
Direct Voter Contact (Canvassing, Phone Banking, and volunteer coordination)
New Media (Facebook, MySpace, MyBO, etc)
Graphic and Web Design for local candidates
So if you go to Kansas State University or Manhattan High School and are interested, send me your resume' and references at bryan@kansasdems.org! Look forward to hearing from you!
Hum? I know I am far from a genius, but It does not take a genius to figure out that DEMOCRACY+SUPER DELEGATES=UNFAIR. Now isn’t America “supposed” to be a “democratic” type ran party? Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn’t democracy mean a government by the people, especially role of majority; a system of representations usually involving periodically held free elections? well that’s what it means according to Merian Webster…Now it is obvious that Barack is winning most of the popular votes, which means a lot of Americans support him. However, Hillary is known in the office, the white house is familiar with her, so don’t you think that the super delegates will favor her despite our votes?
I thought that every votes counts? Isn’t that what democracy teaches us? Well maybe its false consciousness, maybe they teach us that so Americans can be dumb enough to believe that we have a say so…I think its some illusion that our votes counts because all in the end IT DOESN’T!!! So why do we caucus, why do we donate thousands of dollars to help those we support when in reality we do not mean anything? It was a very interesting topic held today in sociology…all in the end the elite rules again, those that do not have to worry about health care, education, civil rights, poverty, etc. etc. those are universal issues…the common folk are not CEO’s, high ranking politicians, or high ranking military soldiers, they make up a small percentage yet all in the end they make the ultimate decisions.
Hum?? I do not know about you but it doesn’t sound at all democratic to me!
*Vote Barack*MARCH 4!!!
“YES WE CAN!”--we have to!
We have been in a number of foreign countries when a crisis occured that threatened the security and safety of large numbers of vulnerable people. The most important quality of a leader in times of crisis is his ability to maintain self control, thus enabling him to evaluate the risks intelligently, then act effectively to organize a response. Self-control is the single most important quality. Leaders cannot dissemble. They cannot give into fear or anger or external pressures to act without counsel. They don't run away. They don't cry or yell or otherwise show weakness. They don't counter with unfounded accusations such as "right wing conspiracy" or lies (now called mis-speak), including partial truths, or personal innuendo or hasty assignations of blame. They don't laugh or smile innappropriately when discussing gravely serious matters.
They reduce secrecy to the essentials of security and promote transparency with the American people. They make intelligent appriasals of their adversaries and communicate openly. However much they feel internal turmoil, they maintain the highest degree of professionalism.
And, finally when the dust is settled and they are asked about our enemies or adversaries, they never, ever engage in mockery.
If the pressures of a campaign have reduced Hillary Clinton first to tears, then to hoarse, angry yelling while she punched the air with her fist, to making statement after statement laced with personal innuendo, half-truths, and finally to "having a little fun" in a public display of cheap theatrics that mocked the beliefs, character and vision of her opponent, how on earth can we expect her to lead us with strength and security if and when a real crisis occurs. The lady senator has many positive attributes, but she cannot keep her head under fire, and when out of control she is likely to dissemble and further endanger the very people she has sworn to defend and protect. The sad truth: Hillary Clinton will never be "ready" because she lacks the personal attributes and character that the job of commander in chief requires.
On a lighter note: I'm a pediatrician and have had many many phone calls in the middle of the night over the course of my professional life. I never ever recall getting up, dressing in a suit jacket and putting on a gold necklace before answering the phone.
*Vote Barack*(or should we?)
“YES WE CAN!”
Hi, I am Young and In love (with what the future holds) but now I am DISGUSTED!!! I am a freshman in college, in a public speaking class, and I decided to do my persuasive speech on VOTING FOR BARACK OBAMA. I decided to talk about the importance of what he has to offer this country, his contributions, change and how desperately the country is in need of it etc. Well I have just started this knowingly long journey of research and I am already disgusted. Why you ask? Well even though it may seem like so many people love Mr. Obama, there are still those very close-minded, ignorant, conservative people, that can’t see past race. That is very unfortunate even though I still believe that those are just a small percentage of people at the bottom of the barrel, barely making it through society, and want to blame someone for their consistent everyday issues.
Also in the quest of this project we had to ask the class questions to see where they stand in your speech whether they agreed or disagreed with your issue or concern…well I was not surprised to see that four people in my class was totally against him, (and all of them have one thing in common they are from VERY small/rural cities) about 6 agreed totally on him and they were all about my age (younger), and most of the class was undecided and needed more information about him. That tells me that I could possibly make change, I could possibly change about 35-40 peoples minds by my speech…I just want any advise on the best way I should go about this, approach this, and make it turn out right???
Any suggestions…well if so could you email me at class_07readytoshine@yahoo.com thanks.
*YES WE CAN!!!*
I am 18 years old, this is my first year having the honor and privilege to vote. Fortunately I am able to vote for not only an African American, but a highly respected and intelligent African American, now please do not get it wrong, that is not the only reason that I am voting for him, because if it were one of our average commonly known so call spokesmen (Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson) I would not vote for them. People like them will only bring shame to our community and we will be made out of a mockery . I was never the type that liked US.Gov., World History, let alone politics but Obama has definitely done a superb job with targeting the young voters more specifically the college students. I have never heard so many of my friends talk about politics before, and have a more clear understanding of what is going on, rather than just the general knowledge of just who is running.
Obama talks a lot about hope…and YES I believe WE CAN but hope is not what Obama needs in this campaign…he needs us as his supporters standing behind him the entire way. Fortunately he has a strong headed spouse supporting him and some strong leaders out supporting him, but WE are his biggest endorsements (my dad explained that whole theory to me), and I’m sure he appreciates everything we have to offer him. Personally my cell phone is glued to me, I support Barack more on my cell phone than anywhere, I get all of his latest texts, breaking news, endorsements, his website is saved under my favorites and the list continues…HE IS ABOUT TO MAKE CHANGE IN 08!!!
*America lets be prepared*
“YES WE CAN!!”
Hi,
My name is Bob and I live in the Little Apple, Manhattan, KS. I am interested in helping Obama get nominated and elected. I am having some trouble finding like-minded people to organize with. I will definitely try to bring a friend or two to the caucus on Feb. 5. But I was hoping to do more. Does anybody read these blogs?
Despite 15 degree weather, Kansans joined together today to door-knock in cities and towns across the state. Volunteers were fired up, educating their neighbors on the upcoming Kansas Caucus and sharing why they believe Senator Barack Obama is the only candidate able to bring Americans together to achieve real change in Washington. Canvassing took place in Kansas City, Hays, Wichita, Topeka, Great Bend, Atchison, Lawrence, Shawnee, and Manhattan, turning out scores of walkers and engaging Kansans of all political backgrounds.
In Lawrence, State Representative Paul Davis commended the crowd on their grassroots enthusiasm and encouraged the group to keep digging all the way to February 5th -- before heading out to knock a few doors himself. And in Wichita, State Senator Donald Betts thanked canvassers for showing their commitment to this important cause.
The Obama Campaign will be canvassing every weekend between now and February 5th, and we hope you can join us. To sign up for our canvasses next Saturday, January 26th, please rsvp to http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/4r3d9
Yesterday, Senate Democratic Leader Anthony Hensley announced his endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for President during a press conference in the Rotunda of the State Capitol. Following the announcement, the Obama Campaign named Senator Hensley and former U.S. Senate candidate Jill Docking as co-chairs of the State Leadership Committee, the Obama Campaign's Kansas advisory committee. "This election is not simply about choosing who will lead us, but where we wish to be led," Senator Hensley said today. "The moment is at hand for a new leader, one who is dedicated to real change, and restoring pride to our country. I believe that leader is Barack Obama." Joining Senator Hensley in endorsing Senator Obama today were: State Senator Donald Betts, D-Wichita State Senator David Haley, D-Kansas City State Senator Marci Francisco, D-Lawrence State Representative Paul Davis, D-Lawrence
State Representative Cindy Neighbor, D-Shawnee State Representative Candy Ruff, D-Leavenworth State Representative Valdenia Winn, D-Kansas City State Representative Harold Lane, D-Topeka
Greetings Kansas Barackstars,Across the nation, high school students are inspired by Barack Obama's challenge to show that young people care about our nation, and that we, too, can be a force for change.
So far we've answered the Senator's call with a flood of volunteer support at the Obama HQ in Lawrence. Phone banking, canvassing, caucus training, and coloring signs - Barackstars have taken a leadership role in the process to elected the next President of the United States. Now, we are focused on gathering high school caucus-goers to help win Kansas on February 5th. Within a week of its creation, the Barackstars' Facebook group drew more than 250 local teenage supporters. Our first meeting drew nearly 30 students, the high school parking lots are filled with Obama bumper stickers, and hallways are, for the first time, buzzing with political conversations. We're pumped about our chance to make change now, not just on November 4th.The next month is packed with events to keep growing our organization and spreading the excitement! If you want in on the action, please visit our facebook group at http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7158702875 or call the Obama office in Lawrence at 785.832.2008.
