It's stunning the level of activism in Longmont after the election - Longmont Organizing for America is up and running with a great day of service on Jan. 19 and Economic House Meetings with dozens attending this past weekend, Longmont Area Progressive Democrats has hosted meetings with Betsy Markey and Brandon Shaffer, the Longmont Area Democrats meetings are attracting crowds to learn and act on important issues, Transition Longmont is getting off the ground, and folks are planning for a strong progressive showing in the local elections come November. Everyone, get involved! We have changed our town, and we can build a sustainable community that works for families.

What a day we had at the NxNW Longmont staging location, with at least 100 volunteers coming through our doors. It was a honor to work with great folks like Phyllis, a natural healing arts practioner who was an Obama Fellow, Jamey who came from California to help us, Tom whose experience with the local Dems guided us so well, Jonathan was a DNC delegateg at age 29 and then lead our team on election day, and the Obama guys Matt, Andy, Dan, and especially Jacob, our Field Organizer who grew so much in stature and leadership during our months of work together. Thanks to all the volunteers, like Trish, Aynshet, Ben, and all the others who canvassing weekly leading up to the election, and those who came in at the end for the big push. Thanks to our neighbors - it was such a joy to meet other local folks and to feel rooted in our community in a way we've never felt before, and to those who came up from Boulder to help out, and those who travelled from California and elsewhere. Thanks big time to Ira, the love of my life, with whom I shared this incredible ride.

Obama, God bless you and good luck! I'll be here, with the others, holding you accountable in the organizing tradition that you respect, and expect.

A TRULY GREAT LEADER

I remember the last time I felt AMERICA had a TRULY GREAT LEADER.That was when JOHN F. KENNEDY was the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES . I was only a KID then but it seemed to me that AMERICA was a really great and special country then. GREAT LEADERS come along RARELY in this WORLD and I KNEW INSTANTLY when I first heard BARACK OBAMA that he had ALL those rare qualities. I think that is what many millions of us AMERICANS know intuitively and when we see it. The entire WORLD sees the exact same great qualities in BARACK OBAMA also. I, like many millions of other AMERICANS have been totally behind BARACK OBAMA from the very beginning. I believe totally in his wisdom, judgement,intuition, honesty, integrity, decency, honor, patriotism, and love for his country,as I am sure all of us do. SO LET US ALL DO EVERYTHING WE CAN to make sure BARACK OBAMA becomes the 44TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES... NOV. 4TH.

I'm in New Jersey away from Team Longmont NorthbyNorthwest, and miss everyone. I can't wait to get back for Monday and Tuesday's big push. In the meantime, Ira and I have found a coffeeshop for making Neighbor to Neighbor calls back home. We've mostly gotten good responses, it feels good to know that some folks are getting to the polls because of my calls. And it's so exciting to see how the numbers are adding up around the country as supporters nationwide call in to Colorado. It's starting to feel like we can really do this. Early Voting is the way to go!! DO IT NOW!!!

I had a long list of things to do today, but only one that had to be completed and crossed off the list. I had to go cast my ballot. I had to do my part and go early vote for Obama/Biden, Udall and all the Democrats on the ballot.

I wasn't going to do one other thing today until I had cast my early vote ballot. I put on my favorite Obama shirt, with several Udall buttons on both shoulders, and added some additional stickers to my wheelchair to balance out my political costume.

I drove to Fort Collilns and voted at CSU. I wanted to do this in the hopes of encouraging more students to go vote. I entered the student union around lunch time so that more students would notice me and my political attire. I took some time in the student union --- went thru the bookstore (on both floors), went thru the food court area, chatted with several people, made a point of smiling at everyone (even the ones that voiced their opposing views and some nasty comments) -- for those types, I made sure to tell them to have a great day! Motto: mock them with kindness. After doing this for over an hour, I took the elevator to the election area.

I had taken along a jacket in case I wasn't allowed to go in with my Obama shirt and Udall buttons. I did have to put on my jacket, but the man at the entrance was very polite about it. There wasn't a line, the room was filled with an abundance of electronic and paper ballot stations available with over 50 volunteers working hard to keep everything organized and running smoothly. I was very impressed!

I expected the ballot to be long, as the media has been saying this for weeks. Not a problem for me. I completed my paper ballot and double checked my selections to make sure I hadn't made any mistakes and put my ballot in the black box in under 15 minutes.

I received my "I voted" sticker, ripped off my jacket and was overcome with emotions - the historic vote I had just cast, the joy of being part of it, all the hard work that had been done to get us to this moment, and a strong desire to go outside and make some noise.

Then, I took a deep breath and remembered that we still have 5 days to go to make this victory a reality. The work isn't over and we need to work hard to to make this campaign of change, hope, and progress a reality.

So, please go cast your vote tomorrow!! And get your family, friends, neighbors to do it too!!!

Fort Collins rally got me ready for GOTV

It was so exciting to be part of a crowd of nearly 50,000 hearing Barack today. We were close enough for me to get several glimpses (taller folks coud actually see without hopping up and down). But what's more exciting and fun is the role that our N&NW Longmont HQ at 1131 Francis can play. We're divided tasks and getting the work done for a big GOTV in our quarter of Longmont. We still need folks to sign up as callers, canvasesrs and comfort volunteers through election day. It fun and active, and feels like it will really make a difference. Barack's speech today showed us just how important it is. I hope anyone who reads this who hasn't already decided to devote their free time between now and Election Day will come down and sign up. 1131 Francis, or in a neighborhood office near you.
