We were sent to a primarily older white blue-color area of Milwaukee. I met an older woman who was a Hillary supporter and felt that Barack wasn't ready, but was not voting for McCain. We spoke about issues that were important to her and at the end she said she was going to vote for Barack. I also met many Barack supporters, and a couple of undecided voters, Not too many McCain supporters.
One older woman told me that she had wanted to vote for Barack but she heard somethings that now she wasn't sure. I asked her what she had heard and she said and told her that they were lies the he was Christian and he led the Pledge of Allegiance in the senate sometimes. So I think she was convinced.
Senator Obama,I find your most recent support for HR 6304 galling. On this most crucial issue on whether or not the rule of law can swept aside when it becomes inexpedient to corporations and this nation's political leadership, you failed. You chose to forgo the mantra of change you've espoused throughout the campaign, failed to demonstrate the political leadership required to rally your party and fellow Senators in opposition to this measure, and instead cast your lot with a party whose consistent and flagrant disregard for American's civil liberties and rights will not be kindly judged by history. You have joined that ignominious group of hyperventilating, weak-kneed legislators who supported the Alien and Sedition Acts, the Compromise of 1850, the House Un-American Activities Committee, or 2006 Military Commissions Act. There is no way to correct, explain, or otherwise spin your actions on this matter: on a crucial issue at an essential time, not only did you fail to lead or cast the ethically correct vote, you failed to uphold the oath you swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. You, sir, have lost my support for you as a Presidential candidate and any other office you might run for in the future. There may yet be politicians out there who can realize the changes that need to be made in Washington, but it is apparent you are not one of them.
Sincerely,
Brian Keegan

Hillary and Michigan have something in common. Wait ten minutes and they both will change. Hillary is now saying caucus States don't matter. If that is the case, Michigan should not caucus and waste the DNC's money or our time. If she thinks we are just going to hand her our delegates after she made a pledge not to campaign here, I am here to tell you Gansders are a tough breed.
We will not take this lying down. Sen. Carl Levin is leading the push to seat the delegates. Jennifer Granholm states Hillary would be good for Michigan. Why is that? It is also known if she delivers Michigan, Jenny is headed to Washington. It saddens me that I have spent hard, earned cash to support all of the above financially as well as emotionally.
Jenny and her gang of deperados are playing Robin Hood and robbing our delegate bank, trying to give it to Hillary. If this happens, you will see an exodus from the Democratic party.
Hillary can't keep the party together. She will never be able to bring the country together, let alone the world. I hope all of you follow Obaa's lead and demand that the delegates not be seated. Remember once sunny Hillary is now partly cloudy saying that caucus States don't matter.
Please write to Jenny and the gang and tell them to learn how to follow rules. Let Howard Dean know he needs to hold Michigan they need to be held accountable for their playing games with our primary.
We should be outraged that the Michigan Legislature took this upon themselves to pull such a bone headed stunt. We are the ones we have been waiting for. Let us come together and make them do the correct thing. We can vote in the National election and our voices will be heard!
Looks like Texas, Ohio, Maine, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin (and others) need a boost. Groups that have had caucuses and Primaries are now adopting cities from the following states (as well as others) What we are doing are sending whomever is able to travel to the area to help out. If you can help with visibilities, canvessing or phone calls that would be very helpful.
I myself am not able to travel at this time. I have a family and my husband is not able to get away from work. But if I can pass on ideas that I have heard and reach out.
If you are able to take off time from work or if you can arrange for childcare if you kids are in school and you are willing AND able to travel there are States that would like your help.
PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR BARACK OBAMA ANY WAY YOU CAN. WE NEED YOU TO JOIN IN THE RALLYS AND VISIBLITIES. WE NEED TO WEAR OUR BUTTONS. I CHECKED OUT SOME RALLIES AND NOTICED THAT WE NEED BIGGER NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS TO JOIN IN.
WE NEED EVERY SINGLE STATE. EVERY SINGLE STATE COUNTS.
CALIFORNIA AND NEW YORK YOU HAVE THE LARGE POPULATIONS AND WE NEED YOU TO SHOW A HUGE NUMBER. WE NEED ALL STATES. IF YOU CAN'T MAKE A RALLY THAN PLEASE WEAR YOUR BUTTONS. THIS IS THE LAST WEEKEND BEFORE SUPER TUESDAY. AND WE ARE VERY CLOSE. WE CAN DO IT. WE NEED EVERYONE WHO IS PASSIONATE FOR OBAMA TO SHOW UP AND BE COUNTED. PLEASE LOOK AT THE EVENT CALENDERS AND SEE WHICH RALLY BEST FITS YOUR SCHEDULE. JUST SHOW UP IF YOU HAVEN'T SIGNED UP FOR A RALLY. WE NEED TO STAND UP AND BE COUNTED.
THANK YOU.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO VOTE ON JAN 15TH. GET THE WORD OUT!
MAKE SURE YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS ARE REGISTERED TO VOTE FIRST AND THEN ASK THEM TO DECLARE DEMOCRATE AND VOTE UNCOMMITTED. DO NOT WRITE IN OBAMA!
The other night the phone rang while my family was watching a movie together. It was a computer.
My typical response is to hang up. Oh, wait, did you say "poll?"
So I put on my metaphorical Barack Obama pin and answered the computer's questions. Hm. Yes, immigration, "very significant." Yes government ethics, "significant."
It asked questions like "sometimes, due to circumstances, it may not become possible to vote. What is the likelihood that you will vote?"
This was a complicated answer. I live in Michigan. Officially, Barack Obama is not "running" in my state. The national democratic party had removed its delegates from the early-scheduler of the state of Michigan, so Barack removed himself. The poll's question was about the likelihood of a conflict in my schedule. But really, the answer became, what was the likelihood of my vote of Barack Obama counting.
"Uncommitted" is my likely vote.
Where does a Obama-supporting Michigander go, to complain about the primary-delegate problem?
Barack himself has complained to congress about the "vote not counting" problem for the District of Columbia, where there is not "representative" in the House of Representatives, only a non-voting "delegate." His argument lost in the Senate due to the heavy influence of republicans, where they know that if they allowed voting power for DC, they would have a permanent democrat.
A similar thing is happening in Michigan. The top leaders of the Democratic party nationally and state-wide seem to be supporting Hillary Clinton, the only top-candidate on the Democratic ballot. The state democratic party have even disqualified write-ins for Obama.
For supporters of Obama (and Edwards), our only choice is an entry of "Uncommitted." Gosh, is it even worth my fuel spent driving to the polls?
Barack spoke elegantly, regarding the indivisible link between politics in faith in his video-speech available at "barackobama.com > Issues > Faith And Politics." He gave concrete poignancy to their interrelatatedness, and stated that this nation is a spiritually thirsty nation: most Americans are at least religious. As the eloquent leader that he is, he stated how leaders are directed to look for consensous on issues, especially where religious beliefs overlap. (Jewish teaching often overlaps with Christian teaching... even Islamist teaching overlaps)
In particular, he was pointed out that Jesus' teachings are to guide decisions, taking jabs pointing out the errancy of the current Department of Justice, and it's hypocrisy to the Sermon on the Mount teaching.
Wow, I never thought I would hear a political candidate reference the Sermon on the Mount. What incredible teaching to all of us, but Jesus spoke to the heart of all of us, and they were difficult words for us to take on, yet take them on we must.
In addition, Barack gave room for all peoples to speak their words, where "freedom of religion" along with "freedom of speech" go together, where in this nation all people are created equal.
In another speach about "Cleaning Up Washington," he rebuked lobbiests, where they buy up every possible thought of politicians. The solution he would institute "on [his] first day as president," would be to clean up washington, in particular lobbiests, and not to silence them, but to force them NOT to be the ONLY word.
Apparently, Barack has made it clear to these two vastly different audiences, "Freedom of speech" does not mean silencing Christian leaders or even lobbiests. They are all welcome in the halls of political discourse. But not to make them the only voice.
Meanwhile, Mitt Romney, famous as the Republican candidate of Mormon faith, has made the opposite claim today. As stated to CBS's Face The Nation, "My church wouldn't endeavor to tell me what to do on an issue, and I wouldn't listen to them on an issue that related to our nation."
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601070&sid=adgjd.E6SKQU&refer=home
As stated here, albeit a sound-byte, it appears the opposite tack. "Freedom from religion" (which is popular in secular society) and even "freedom from speech."
Wouldn't LISTEN?
Why even call yourself belonging to a religion at all, if you wouldn't listen?
I stand for a leader that listens. Even if he doesn't respond, or even take pity, I still want a leader that can listen to the people he leads, and manages his flock with care.
Where I live, in Houghton, Michigan, politics are perceived irrelevant.
Hougton is 497 miles from our state capital in Lansing. Even the capitals of Minnesota and Wisconsin are closer. I told a joke once to a colleague, "when Houghton speaks, Lansing listens." The sarcasm was obvious.
People in Houghton feel no government taking care of them. Many would just rather detach from government entirely, and let individuals handle life without governmental oversight. This may come from Houghton being so issolated from city life, where many lives come from natural resources (mineral/forestry). It may also come from the high number of immigrants here, who have more alleigance to Finland than they do Washington. It may come from the popularity of anarchist government, aka "taxpayer's party," where it's just more fun for your name to be on the ballot than it is to do the work of campeigning and leadership.
Still, Houghton is also a place of learning, where a variety of backgrounds converge upon the campus of Michigan Technological University. Students and Faculty alike carry out political rhetoric. Unfortunately, some on campus that complain about politics don't exercise their right to vote, because they think their vote is so small. Then there are those who want to vote, but cannot vote due to non-citizen status (student visa/foreign faculty).
I find myself at odds, as someone so interested in the process of democracy, so drawn into a system where every vote counts (e.g. Florida), in a place where politics are silent, irrelevant, and avoided.
Thank you for reading.
Michigan is moving their primary up to January I guess and now Barack and others say they won't campaign here. Gosh this is very disappointing. Michigan is hurting really bad and we need more visability from Obama.
