On June 2, 2009 President Obama affirmed his support for the creation of a government-sponsored health insurance plan as part of legislation that “must reduce costs, guarantee choice, and ensure quality care for every American."
However, Congressional politicians may distort this intent by employing a “triggering” option, a ploy to placate the health care industry. “Triggering” will not produce true economic reform because it will either never happen or if so, not in a timely manner. Medicare legislation includes a “triggering” mechanism that is controlled by the health industry and never used. The trigger has already been pulled! Furthermore, the current industry proposal merely cuts the cost of increase, not an actual reduction. Even that proposal lacks clarity and guarantees.
Any passage of health care reform legislation at the state and federal level must include an independent publicly regulated or managed option that does not controlled by the health care industry. While I concur that a properly crafted single-payer system along the lines of social security is ideally the best solution, practically it will never pass. Instead of repeating the past strategic miscalculation of the Clinton Administration, we must build a coalition in support of a public alternative choice. Otherwise we will lose a unique opportunity to pass true comprehensive health care reform. Furthermore, if a public alternative as proposed is adopted, the free market will most probably gravitate towards a government alternative very soon. What the public needs and deserves is the transparency of comparative analysis and an effective marketing campaign.
During the campaign Barack Obama stated that the health care “will cover people through a combination of private insurance and public insurance” asserting that “we could get to $2,500 in savings by the end of the first term, or be very close to it”. A consensus has emerged among health economists that at least a third of the country’s health care costs are unnecessary.
We are both 66 year-old cancer survivors. My wife also suffers from chronic ulcerative colitis and I was struck by a cerebral hemorrhage rendering me disabled and currently unemployed. We both rely on my wife's health insurance that is threatened by the Recession. Her employer furloughed her for one day a week. Governor Schwarzenegger has called for drastic reduction in California's health care program as a deficit reduction measure.
I intend to pursue this issue to the fullest extent and urge your leadership on this vital matter. Thank you for your attention.
Palin's interview with Wolf Blitzer took a turn when SHE chose to divert the conversation back to her wardrobe costs and how "rediculous" the hoopla was made by the "media filters."
Ahhh - but there's the rub, it's NOT just about the $150,000 of clothing for her AND HER FAMILY... it's also about her "getting her way." Already the McCain handlers have cited Palin as going rogue and now even as far as referring to her as a Diva... (of course it's stronger language that they use for McCain off record.)It IS however, about Palin's attitude and beattitude of becoming the second most powerful person in the county (remember, she DOES own and gun and knows how to use it). Even Alaskan papers are backing Obama over McCain! A look at their headlines would lead one to think that they've already written off the campaign as an Obama landslide! Alaskans are most concerned with in state ballot issues (opposed to Gambling, Aerial Hunting, and Clean Water Issues, btw) and the Stevens trial than they are about their lil darlin'.Don't let them ol' tattered jeans fool ya - Palin appearantly has the "taste" of the good life and wants to keep it that way... She went on the defensive when the AP brought about the fact that she ALSO made up "official reasons" to charge the State of Alaska for her childrens TRAVEL. (Daaaang, wish I could have someone else pay for my daughters to be with me on business) ONE of which was for "First Family Photos" of their dad leading an Iron Dog snowmobile race, which their father has competed in for 14 years. She's also charged for friends to travel with her and when queeried her office "She has the ability to authorize people to travel with her," Glass said. "That's the end of the story."Remember that "Ebay Plane?" SINCE she see sold THAT one off she's made good use of the CURRENT State Plane! The flight that included the Palin children's friends was among more than two dozen taken by the family on the STATE PLANE at a total cost of about $55,000. The family purchased commercial airline tickets when they couldn't get access to that plane, which is used primarily to transport prisoners and law enforcement officials. The plane which costs $971 an hour to operate has been called by Bill Tandeske, public safety commissioner from 2003 to 2006, "a family station wagon."Let's talk about that State Plane she sold on ebay! NEVER HAPPENED! She TRIED to sell it and there was ONE BID made. It was finally sold not on eBay. It was sold to a businessman from Valdez named Larry Reynolds, who paid $2.1 million for the jet, shy of the original $2.7 million purchase price, according to contemporaneous news reports, including a story in the New York Times. Republican speaker of the Alaska House, John L. Harris, brokered the deal. Reynolds made campaign contributions to both Palin and Harris in 2006 and 2007. Ergo, Palin & John McCain keep claiming outright that Palin did sell the jet on the Internet. Now, it's the $150K wardrobe to put make a silk purse out of a sow in blue jeans. She's more wish washy than a Maytag washer! Why is this important? Because Palin - like McCain and the GOP and RNC, dons the clothing (and issues) that gives the perception that suits the situation. At the RNC convention, they billed among Palin's accomplishments as "She signed sweeping ethics reform legislation, auctioned the governor's jet on eBay." The only reform is that the gun totin' trailer gal is rubbin' elboes with Hasselbeck, the McCains and the Bushes and she LIKES it and she ain't gonna go BACK!The RNC made it's bed with this woman and now they're paying the price. ("Lying with dogs and getting up with fleas" comes to mind.) Palin's been called a "Diva" and "Rogue" BY THE McCAIN CAMPAIGN PEOPLE for going off message and in polls she's dropped McCain's ratings drastically not to mention 55% (six in ten) folks now do not believe she is competent to run the country if McCain dies in office. She manipulates, goes off topic, is off handed, and her own campaign members are saying "She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone. She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else." also that "she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: Divas trust only unto themselves, as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom."And they want this woman to run our country?
We were a small group from Lake Arrowhead, who drove to Las Vegas the weekend of October 17th. We felt that our efforts had great impact and we were happy to meet lots of fellow Californians there. It was a huge turn out. This was so rewarding! 9 more days! VOTE!!!! Vote Early! Great experience for our middle-school kids, they learned what democracy in America is all about. If anyone can go this coming last weekend, DO IT!!!

"~~~the real issue is how will the individual respond to the test. Whether he passes or fails will be critical. I feel confident that both Senator McCain and Governor Palin will respond favourably; the other side I am not as certain."
Oooohhhh, boy... ya pushed the wrong button...Let me see... we had a rambunctious hot head in office for 9/11... who played on the American People's sorrow, saw an opportunity for his daddy's buddies to make HUGE bucks on government contracts as well as "spreading democracy" against the "evil doers" (which translates into evangelism in a muslim nation), who then bamboozled Congress and into voting carte blanche power for W to INVADE the sovereign nation of Afghanistan (albeit the fact that the 9/11 TERRORISTS derived from Saudi Arabia) and for which we sponsored military and economic relief only to abandon them previously when it suited us - for the sole purpose of rataliation and elimination of Osama Bin Laden (also from Saudi Arabian oil money). Not FINDING the Terrorist mastermind of 9/11, we THEN witness the wrath of "Shock and Awe" Part Deaux" (because Part ONE was from Bush 41) W THEN uses the SAME okie dokie powers to go after Saddam Hussein (aka Ṣaddām Ḥusayn ʿAbd al-Majīd al-Tikrītī, btw) - by INVADING the OTHER sovereign nation of Iraq - which had NOTHING to do with 9/11 - under the alleged misinformation of "WMD" (weapons of mass distruction) which W was TOLD in advance was bogus - for the sole purpose of "He threatened mah daddy." For this - as of 10/22/08 - Since 3/19/03 - 4,186 US soldiers have died. (4,047 since 5/3/01 "Mission Accomplished") This is in addition to British military's 176 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, 7; El Salvador, 5; Slovakia, 4; Latvia and Georgia, 3 each; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand and Romania, 2each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan and South Korea, 1 death each, Contractors 405, AND Iraqi deaths as of today totaling 1,273,378 many of whom are women and children. This is on TOP of the 320,000 US military with brain injuries and the 18 US soldier deaths PER DAY of suicide. In Afghanistan - you remember, the place Congress authorized war power to invade to chase & kill Bin Laden? - 3,273 Afghans have died to date, and recently 95 Afghans, 60 of them children, were killed by a US air assault in Azizabad in August and 47 wedding guests dismembered by US bombardment in Nangarhar in July and there's many, many more! [takes a breath]Meanwhile, John McCain's stated qualifications for president is that he "knows how to win a war" and knows "how to fix the economy" and expects us to believe this - not on the basis of demonstrated or stated plans of action - but on the basis of his status as a former North Vietnamese prisoner of war. [Rudy Giuliani said in his speech at the Republican National Convention that McCain's refusal to accept early release showed he's a man "who believes in serving a cause greater than self-interest." In his speech, Senator-better-as-an-actor Fred Thompson said McCain's time in the "Hanoi Hilton" revealed "the kind of character that civilizations from the beginning of history have sought in their leaders: strength, courage, humility, wisdom duty, [and] honor."In St. Paul, MN, McCain wrapped up his speech says that the ordeal prepared him for the job of running the United States. "I was never the same again," he said. "I wasn't my own man anymore, I was my country's." {Cindy McCain seems to believe that PTSD doesn't exist and her own husband admits to PTSD in order to win votes!] Philip Butler, one of McCain's fellow POWs said that the Arizona senator "was well-known as a very volatile guy" (a common analogy from fellow Senators) and not somebody he wants to see "with his finger near the red button." Mr. Butler (who was held as POW two years longer than McCain) wrote, "John's views on war, foreign policy, economics, environment, health care, education, national infrastructure, and other important areas are much the same as those of the Bush administration." You know, the guy that got us into this mess in the first place.McCain knows how to "win a war" because he was a POW?!?!? Yeah, I want a rich, wharped, twisted, vendictive, angry, stunted old man with extreme mood swings and bouts of anger, who's a POW of a non-declared war we never won, and who dumped his wife for a model when he got back from Vietnam because she was cripled in a car accident to be in charge of the "Football" and to fix the "crises of the century" in our ecomony. Riiiiiight.McCain would have us INVADE Pakistan - another soveriegn nation, albiet third world, but with a bigger stick (can we say NU-CLE-AR weapons?) without talks before hand "unless they meet preconditions." ("Nucular" is defined as "of or related to a nucule," which is a section of a compound (usually hard) fruit. As opposed to the correct term of "nuclear" which is nucleus of an atom, the splitting of which has lead to nuclear reactions, either fission or a combination of fission and fusion that make BOMBS. I.e. things that make it go "BOOM!") [takes another breath and sip of coffee]OF ALL PEOPLE - OF ALL VETERANS IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - McCain should KNOW that it was DIPLOMATIC PEACE TALKS - NOT military action or INVASION - which lead to his release from South Vietnam by the Communist who declared victory in 1975! Little history lesson - in 1950, the US (hell bent on preventing the spread of communism in the world) decided to send Military Consultants to advise the South Vietnamese in their conflict with the Communist North Vietnamese - which arose after ousting the French in the mid 20th Century (thus politically splitting the country in two). This resulted in the deaths of 3 to 4 million Vietnamese from both sides, 1.5 to 2 million Laotians and Cambodians, and 58,159 U.S. soldiers (which continues to rise as Veterans die from suicide and side effects of Agent Orange and PTSD). THIS MAN, this - TORTURED ANGRY MILITARY MAN from a long line of Military Men - wants us to believe he's NOT going to have military flashbacks and see "the enemy" in every corner of the Middle East?!?!? This SAME man, wants us to believe that he is more capable of "winning the war" (without telling us HOW) and wants us to "trust him" to NOT escalate us into a NU-CLE-AR war with Pakistan in order to get that "evil doer" that embarrassed his political party and his buddy, "W?" Are we REALLY THAT STUPID?!?!?!? `Scuse me for livin,' but, given the choice between a man of peaceful resolution and an angry man of war - I'll take the former. I'm tired of my friends' sons and daughters dying in a war in a cause for which I did not vote and has not worked and which has gone on so long - as wars often do - that we've forgotten the orginal reason we went to battle in the first place. Vengence on Osama Bin Laden for 9/11. Instead the war has morphed itself into a beast of commerce for contractors and military advisors and politicians seeking to serve a defacto third term.As for Palin - I've said it before and I'll say it again -"Ya can put lipstick on a bitch but it doesn't make her a Show Dog." In a race based on her reliance of Joe Six Pack and Hockey Moms in red states where they care about "guns, tailgates and the man upstairs," absentee Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin duped the RNC into shelling out $150,000 in five weeks (that's $1,800,000 a YEAR) to dress and accessorize her AND HER FAMILY for the campaign tour! Hmmmm. That's MORE than most of our houses are worth right now! Or, as one gal (Detroit reporter Laura Berman) put it "...more than the cost of 14 average houses selling in Detroit last month. Also more than the annual salaries of the very people from whom she's illiciting a vote of confidence for "someone who's just like me!" "I thought she looked really good because she had beauty queen training. I guess I'm awfully naïve." said another Detroit News reporter. Who the hell WOULDN'T want a $75,000 for one shopping fling at the Minneapolis Neiman-Marcus or Tahari skirt suits for $498, or a $2500 suit from German designer, Escada?!?! Add pedicures, hair, makeup, (does she tan?), and those cute lil' ol peep shoes there, multiply that by 30 days in a month, and ya got a humdinger of a bill paid by them gosh darned devoted dogerblue dollar donations. In tha words of the Church Lady, "It'nt that SPECIAL." Oh, and then there's Sarah's gal/pal, Cindy McCain, who wore $296,000 of jewelry, an Oscar de la Renta dress at $3,000 and designer shoes at $600, the total estimated cost of her wardrobe was just shy of $300,000 which she wore to the Republican National Convention in Minnesota. Cindy also wore three-carat diamond earrings estimated to be worth $280,000 to an LA fund raiser, and a four-strand pearl necklace worth at least $11,000 and a Chanel designer watch estimated at $4,500 to another. Laura Bush, on the other hand, (you remember her, the wife of W?), showed off a frugal wardrobe at the same political event wearing an Oscar de la Renta suit and pearl stud earrings, her outfit, complete with Stuart Weitzman shoes, was estimated to cost less than $4,325. On the other hand, Michelle Obama often wears "off the rack" and uses folks like Detroit designer, Maria Pinto, and exands her wardrobe the way we working "Six Pack Moms" do, by "changing up outfits with new accessories (belt, brooches and pins), mixing and matching separates." If I gotta choose between an over dressed, mean mouthed, Moose shootin', Wolf huntin, empty headed, beauty pagent gal with a $150K a month wardrobe bill, who's runnin' with an angry, vendictive, cheatin' ol' phart with a trophy wife and so many houses he can't remember (each of which - seven in all - are worth MORE than the annual $1.8M Palin-family-wardrobe-habit) to get this country back on track and a man of Peace, dignity, and who's willing to - not only talk about his actual plans to get us back on track (instead of bashing his opponent) - but also to seek diplomatic resolutions with those of whom we disagree - then let me make it plain - IT AIN'T PALIN/MCCAIN. Bottom line, I don't trust McCain any farther than he could throw me (cuz I'm sure I CAN take him, LOL) to not take us into a nuclear war, at worst, or Cold War, at best. OR in the event that McCain were to die in office (because it IS always a possibiity) there ain't no way in HELL I'd feel secure in the thought that Palin (who could not even answer "What is the role of the Vice President.") could run this country around her hair & pedicure appointments. Biden CAN. Obama CAN.See whacha done gone and done?!?!?! Ya done gone and turned me into Keith Oberman in a skirt! That's all I got ta say about that.
Of all the articles of faith the Republicans cling to, the one that is most damaging to our society is the concept that sharing wealth is Socialist behavior and any policy or program that the majority of the people are in favor of and that benefits everyone is Socialist.
McCain, as recently as yesterday is accusing Obama of being a Socialist…
The reality is that Class Warfare (the Republican’s code phrase for their battle against social economic programs) has been practiced in the U.S. since the country was formed. Today’s battlefield is Washington D.C. and the warriors are called Lobbyists. They are careful not to mention phrases like Class Warfare unless they have to, because they know the class they represent are winning the war.
I’ve often wondered why people like “Joe the Plumber” who would, given his actual income, (not his stated income) benefit more from an Obama administration, consistently vote contrary to their own self-interest. In this case, it’s the Republican ideology, that equates Socialism with Communism, which says nothing about borrowing $200 million a day from China being a threat to our way of life, but waxes long on how gay marriage, abortion rights, “Socialized Medicine” and other wedge issues, will be the ruin of us all.
Turns out the wealthy, for all their power and influence, have trouble voting in their own self-interest too. And like “Joe the Plumber” they are blinded by their own Republican ideology. An ideology that says money is power, wealth is the only valid measurement of self worth, and that the poor are poor because they have failed to achieve. The wealthy aren’t stupid, even the ones who are can still afford advisors who are smart enough to know that a system of government that allows unlimited wealth to coexist with unlimited poverty, can’t prevail. The wealthy were made aware of the impossibility of ever-increasing profit in a shrinking economy during the stock market crash of 1929, but the idea of giving some of their amassed wealth to people they don’t know or control, then as now, is antithetical. But doing so would limit the amount of wealth they could stockpile. The kicker is that instead of building wealth until the collapse of the banking system, and then losing everything, they could keep their lesser riches safely forever just by sharing a little more with the less blessed of our society. It’s a basic flaw in our Capitalist system that can only be patched by their greater generosity.
There was a deathless quote from Marriner S Eccles, Fed Chairman under the FDR Administration that I saw recently on Real Time with Bill Maher where Eccles critiques the collapse of the stock market in 1929. Change the dates to now and it explains the current stock market collapse better than any other report or analysis anybody could produce…
“A giant suction pump had by 1929-30 drawn into a few hands an increasing portion of currently produced wealth. This served them as capital accumulations. But by taking purchasing power out of the hands of mass consumers, the savers denied to themselves the kind of effective demand for their products that would justify a reinvestment of their capital accumulations in new plants. In consequence, as in a poker game where the chips were concentrated in fewer and fewer hands, the other fellows could stay in the game only by borrowing. When their credit ran out, the game stopped.”
History is repeating itself today because the Republican ideology regarding the economy has not changed in 80 years, and the wealthy still have trouble realizing that their view of Capitalist utopia doesn’t work if they insist on pulling all the capital out of the system.
Class Warfare, Redistribution of Wealth, any other label its detractors hang on it, is just a necessary mechanism to preserve a balance between the haves, and the have-nots in our society that keeps our economy in balance, to the benefit of all. Scandinavian and other European countries have a society that is based on Democratic Socialism, they have plenty of rich people, great infrastructure, and their working class actually gets free health care, free college education, and 30 days vacation annually guaranteed for full time employees. Sounds impossible, if you listen to the Republican candidates, in fact it sounds so preposterous that we shouldn’t even try. That’s because our leadership has lowered our expectations to the point where we don’t believe in the value of our own work anymore.
That’s the real theft here; the business elite have devalued the American worker’s labor. What the Washington crowd neglects to mention about free trade is that to be competitive worldwide, American workers need to work as cheaply as workers in Bangladesh or in China. So they will try to convince us that foregoing healthcare and living in hovels instead of a 2000 square foot home is not their fault, its just our patriotic duty to keep American goods flowing to the world at a fair price.
They can kiss my ass.
The McCAIN's adopted a child in 1991 while in Bangladesh after a cyclone. Lovely little girl named Bridget who needed a facial reconstruction for a cleft pallet. When interviewed by the Christian Monitor in 2000, Cindy waxed poetic over the adoption by stating that she "Took (Bridget) from the arms or Mother Teresa." (They later recanted the statement as being untrue since, in fact, the McCains had never met Mother Teresa.) The issue of Bridget being black (in India, dark skinned cast are considered "Black" left over from the days of British rule) crops up over and over on both sides - good when it's a good photo op, and bad when it's not. Recently, Cindy responded this way:
MARIE CLAIRE: How do you deal with the negative things that come out in campaigns, like the rumor that was floated in 2000 that Bridget was in fact John’s illegitimate daughter?
CINDY McCAIN: "You know, I stopped reading all this stuff years ago. ....She was young then and didn’t know anything about it. But about a year-and-a-half ago, she Googled herself and read all this. And in her mind and at her age, she felt like this was her fault. She didn’t understand why people didn’t like her, AND THEY DIDN'T LIKE HER BECAUSE SHE'S BLACK." (emphasis added)
People actually BELIEVE statements like that! Comments like these toss me back to my days when "nice white folks" called my neighbor friend "that nice little colored gal." Latent racism is rampant in America... over the years it's not so much that racism went away - but that it became "politically incorrect" to demonstrate it publically.
People still harbor racist beliefs. "Jews had horns" and "blacks had tails" and everyone not a WASP was "boy" and these latent racists beliefs are why some folks can say with a straight face that Obama is a muslim when in fact he's an American and Christian.
It IS an issue. The question remains - with all that is wrong with our country and our world - is it more of an issue than taking us in a different direction? Or will the "unspoken truth" scare the Country into voting "safe" (read white) instead of change. When you still have folks going on national news admitting that they'd "Vote for a wrong headed White man" or that they "Just can't bring (themselves) to vote for a black man" I'd say we're nowhere NEAR being out of the woods on this one.
Too close to call.
Last month, we could not help but notice the arm cast that changed with Cindy McCain's outfit and then suddenly disappeared by the night of the first debate. We are worried for her safety.
During a recent interview of Marie Claire, Cindy was asked about John McCain's PTSD and his "temper." Here is her reply:
MC: You met your husband after his POW days. To what extent is that still with you — or is it a part of history?CM: My husband will be the first one to tell you that that’s in the past. Certainly it’s a part of who he is, but he doesn’t dwell on it. It’s not part of a daily experience that we experience or anything like that. But it has shaped him. It has made him the leader that he is. MC: But no cold sweats in the middle of the night?CM: Oh, no, no, no, no, no. My husband, he’d be the first one to tell you that he was trained to do what he was doing. The guys who had the trouble were the 18-year-olds who were drafted. He was trained, he went to the Naval Academy, he was a trained United States naval officer, and so he knew what he was doing.
The ardent denial by Cindy is more than just a passionate defense that a wife has of her husband. What woman starts two sentences back to back "My husband will be the first one to tell you" without being scripted? From prior personal experience... I'm just gonna come out and say it... Cindy McCain shows all the signs of an abused spouse. Even to the degree of denying John's infamous temper:
MC: Your husband’s temper is legendary in Washington. What does he tend to get mad about?CM: It’s not a temper. The people who are sometimes on the opposite side of an issue from him may view it as such because my husband is passionate, he is involved, and he has put this country first his entire life. He’s extremely passionate, and I’m glad he is. I don’t want someone who doesn’t care.MC: But never at home? CM: Oh, no. No, no, no, no. We have a very fun family life.
The official statement is that in August 2008, a member of the public shook her hand very vigorously, aggravating her existing carpal tunnel syndrome condition and causing her to slightly sprain her wrist. Marie Claire on the other hand stated it differently:
MC: You recently found yourself in the hospital after your hand was crushed by an overzealous supporter. So how do you like campaigning?CM: Oh, it’s fine. Listen, the crowds are large, they’re enthusiastic, they’re well-meaning, and this is nothing.MC: You were addicted to painkillers in the early ’90s. What’s your advice to others?CM: Beware. Beware. It’s not anything that I ever thought I could succumb to, and it happened without my even knowing it. But I’ll tell you what it has done for me: It’s made me a much better and more alert mother.
Yet that's was not quite the situation..,
In 1989, Cindy McCain became addicted to Percocet and Vicodin, opioid painkillers, which she initially took to alleviate pain following two spinal surgeries for ruptured discs, and to ease emotional stress during the Keating Five affair for which Cindy was blamed as the bookkeeper unable to find "receipts for family trips" on the Keating private jet and launched a series of embarrassing investigations into her husband's activities.
In April 2004 Cindy suffered a near-fatal stroke caused allegedly by high blood pressure. After several months of physical therapy to overcome her leg and arm limitations, she made a mostly full recovery, although she still suffers from some short-term memory loss and difficulties in writing. She of course denies this publically.
Signs that one might be a victim of abuse:
Cindy has always been known as quiet, shy, subdued, and until recently never even spoke publically on the campaign unless it was to introduce John McCain. She has always been the epitome of a "Good Republican Wife." Not until Sarah Palin did Cindy ever speak a harsh word (with the exception of the Michelle Obama swipe)... the crowd loved it and now it's a "thing."
Here's what we know:
Watching John McCain's actions with Cindy verses with Sarah Palin are as different as night and day... and not in a good or normal way. When Cindy is on stage, McCain will grab her arm like a small child or "usher" Cindy along as opposed to showing a gentleness towards his life mate and mother of his children - adopted or otherwise. When Sarah Palin takes the stage McCain's eyes TWINKLE with delight! Of course, she pulls away from him as if repulsed but that's another story.
The first few times we saw this reaction, we thought nothing of it... the more we watch the more we wonder if he's about to jump ship the way he dumped Carol McCain after her car accident which left her crippled for life.
McCain appears emotionally stunted most times - none more evident than during the Obama/McCain debates. Instead of referring to the HUGE humnanitarian activities in Cindy's life around the world, McCain remarks on Carol, McCain's first wife. Like Cindy (and Sarah for that matter), Carol Shepp McCain, a 5'8" beautful successful swimsuit and runway model in Philadelphia when they married in 1965. (She divorced John's best friend at the Naval Academy for infidelity which, ironically, is why the McCains divorced as well.)
According to various media outlets...During McCain's capitivity, Carol was proactive in the POW/MIA movement. In 1969, Carol McCain was driving alone in asnow storm on Christmas eve on an isolated country road, when she skidded and collided with a telephone pole, thrown from the car into the snow, and went into shock. Passersby found her and took her to to the hospital where she had two smashed legs, a broken pelvis, broken arm, and ruptured spleen, Carol then spent the next six months in the hospital, and over two years had 23 operations to rebuild her legs. She was told by the U.S. State Department not tell her husband about the accident in her letters to him because "it would be used against John McCain" by his captors. Businessman and POW advocate Ross Perot paid for her medical care. It wasn't until years later that John McCain found out about Perot's help.
When John came home and the McCains were reunited in 1973, she was four inches shorter, in a wheelchair & on crutches, and she'd lost her figure as a result. McCain was also affected by his injuries. Ross Perot would later say, "After he came home, he walked with a limp, she [Carol McCain] walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona [Cindy McCain, his current wife] and the rest is history." Truth is that the McCains were frequent guests of the Reagans and became the GOPs Hero poster boy. John had many extramarital affairs and the last was with Cindy (cheerleader and rodeo queen), whom he married 1 month after his divorce with Carol was over in 1980. According to Carol, her husband's five-year captivity in Vietnam had left him wanting to "make up for lost time" and the McCains continue to deny his captivity had anything to do with his conduct... even though millions of Veterans with demonstrated PTSD have similar behavioral problems
PTSD is REAL. Millions of Veterans who suffer from it have issues with anger, control issues, physical violence, and often have relationship problems. Cindy McCain is in danger - we asolutely believe this to be so. I know an abused woman when I see one... I was one, my daughters were abused by men, my Mother (God Bless her) was abused... Luckily we are in good relationships... but we all have issues related to that abuse we have suffered to this date.
Don't be a statistic - if you experience domestic violence or suspect someone is please call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)
Or call DOVES http://www.doves-stop-violence.org/outrchrw.htm
Cindy McCain- PLEASE GET OUT!!!
Palin's attempt at adroitness is overwhelmed by her androidness when she uses her stock reply against "those people" who dare to speak out at one of her rallies..
Sarah Palin, bless her little pea pickin' heart, is always ready to fall upon her sword of righteousness to demonstrate her Blue Star Mother patriatism with her retort of "Ya know what? My son is serving in Iraq to guarantee your right to do... what you're doing."
No matter that it's that whole pesky First Ammendment of the Unites States Constitution which "guarantees" our right to Free Speech as part of that whole "inalienable rights" thingy:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Bill of Rights, Article the Third, "Amendment I" to the US Constitution- [emphasis added]
Which in fact were added "in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers...." (Preamble to Bill of Rights.). A lesson that Palin has not learned, btw, making her the singularly biggest threat to our Country's safety & Constitutional rights in the event McCain bites the big one while in office.
OR that it's part of that whole... World "Free Speech" doohicky that has been a part of the larger global view for more than a generation as part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), the International Human Rights Law, and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (created 1966, adopted 1976)
Free Speech is CERTAINLY not "guaranteed" by Palin's singular 19 year old soldier boy - or by any soldier for that matter. As a Disabled Veteran of the Granada Era, and wife of a Viet Nam Veteran, stepdaughter of a Blind Veteran, Auntie of a Naval Midshipman, I can tell you that there is a HUGE difference in the young soldiers of today verses the soldiers of Viet Nam and previous wars.
My husband was the last generation to know consription - also known as The Draft. He was a successful musician in a very popular group called The Greenwood County Singers and was in American homes on shows like the Hollywood Palace hosted by George Burns, and on Hullaballoo appearing with acts such as Sonny & Cher, Rolling Stones, and worked with such stars as Red Skelton, Robert Goulet, Stevie Wonder, Carol Channing, and more. In fact it was after his show with Andy Griffith at Harrahs in Lake Tahoe that he received his draft notice which started: "Dear Reginald Bannister, Congratulation..." (sic) With that letter, his "Freedoms" disappeared and he would ultimately wind up in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam as a Radio Operator, exposed to Agent Orange and probably PTSD. (Which Cindy McCain says, basically, if you ignore it PTSD doesn't exist and "The guys who had the trouble were the 18-year-olds who were drafted. (McCain) was trained, he went to the Naval Academy, he was a trained United States naval officer, and so he knew what he was doing." Of course McCain was 894th in a class of 899 and Cindy's statement set Disabled Veterans back 30 years.)
It was my husband, and those gosh darned Veteran soldiers like him, that later fought to remove such doctrines that stripped constitutional freedoms away from US Citizens with the stroke of an illiterate pen in a non-declared war. It would not, however, be the last "non-declared war" our young soldiers would see as is evident by the First Gulf War and the current Afghanistan and Iraq invasions.
Palin's 19 year old son is NOT serving in Iraq to "guarantee" our rights to "do what (we're) doin." Her exuberence to spew her stump speech and regurgitate her handlers Cliff Notes was evident when she turned on HER OWN SUPPORTERS! When a crowd of at least 10-20,000 gathered at the Richmond International Raceway, and "those hockey moms and six-pack Joes" on the outer periphery who were more than 100 yards from the stage could not hear. The chant went up, "Louder! Louder!" Palin replies, "I hope those protesters have the courage and honor to give veterans thanks for their right to protest," When the Dude whispered in her ear what they were actually saying, it was a "Rosann Rosanna Danna" (SNL) moment of "Oh! Never mind."
This is the SAME woman who - after being in office of Governor two years - was asked by Alaska Business Monthly her views on the surge to which she responded:
"Alaska Business Monthly: We've lost a lot of Alaska's military members to the war in Iraq. How do you feel about sending more troops into battle, as President Bush is suggesting?Palin: I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq. I heard on the news about the new deployments, and while I support our president, Condoleezza Rice and the administration, I want to know that we have an exit plan in place~"
Huh?!?!
I kid you not, last night on one of the news shows I heard a McCain mouthpiece refer to the TRILLION Dollar Bailout as "Penicillin for a Cold!" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?! I could not have created a better metaphor to describe the disconnect of the Republican candidates from Main Street America!
First, for those who don't know... penicillin is used for the treatment of BACTERIAL infections. The Common Cold is a VIRAL infection. To equate the Trillion Dollar Boondoggle as a "Penicillin for a Cold" is to say that they're treating the VIRAL infection affecting the financial market with an ANTI-BACTERIAL infusion of money! To do so will result in another analogy "The patient survived but the doctor died!"
This mix metaphor is perfect to describe the disconnect of the financial world and Republican base from the very "Average Joe Six Pack" that Palinists solicit... When, in fact, Joe, cannot relate because he's hunkered down trying to survive on reduced hours - if he even still has a job. he doesn't care a rats patoot about AIG, Lehman's, or even Wells Fargo since he doesn't have the money to put into a 401K or even a savings account! That's already been blown to hell in the last six months and he's ONLY spending his money on NATURAL LIGHTS instead of Miller or Bud because he can't afford name brands any more... and he only does that so he can "check out" for a few hours after work where he's under the thumb of a boss that pulls in twice to three times what his employees do... and that's not assuming that Joe is a self employed contractor who's got even BIGGER problems.
Penicillin for a Cold.... if you still haven't gotten it, is like giving a dying man a tax credit. Don't mean SQUAT. But it perfectly describes how disconnected the right is from Main Street... and the Trailer Park on Back Street.
For someone who comments about "not looking back" Palin sure flip flops. She convieniently condemns Biden for "looking to the past" when he references the parallels of the Bush/McCain policies and then uses that very "past" as a way to support her principal on his being a "maverik."
Palin: "We need to look back, even two years ago, and we need to be appreciative of John McCain's call for reform with Fannie Mae, with Freddie Mac, with the mortgage-lenders, too, who were starting to really kind of rear that head of abuse."
But then when the house of cards on Wall Street started tumbling and it tanked 777 points in one day, her own principal, John McCain, December 2007, "I'm surprised about this subprime mortgage crisis." So WHICH IS IT? (Maybe it's because he probably doesn't owe anything on his 7 houses and have a mortgage company knocking down his door or feel he has no place to go but to shoot himself rather than be evicted http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/07/23/national/main4287473.shtml, or http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/10/03/eviction.suicide.attempt/index.html)
Palin: "But for a ticket that wants to talk about change and looking into the future, there's just too much finger-pointing backwards to ever make us believe that that's where you're going.
BIDEN: Look, past is prologue, Gwen. The issue is, how different is John McCain's policy going to be than George Bush's? I haven't heard anything yet.
Palin then goes into attack mode of "look over here" to avoid direct questions:
Palin: "I think tomorrow morning, the pundits are going to start do the who said what at what time and we'll have proof of some of this, but, again, John McCain who knows how to win a war. Who's been there and he's faced challenges and he knows what evil is and knows what it takes to overcome the challenges here with our military.
Palin: "He knows to learn from the mistakes and blunders we have seen in the war in Iraq, especially. He will know how to implement the strategies, working with our commanders and listening to what they have to say, taking the politics out of these war issues. He'll know how to win a war."
If John McCain knows how to win a war and wants to invoke his credentials as such... WHY, then - since he's been in office the entire duration of the warS- has he allowed an estimated 80,419 to 87,834 Iraqi deaths, in excess of 34,452 United Nations deaths, 4,119 US Armed Forces deaths as of July 15th 2008, 8,914 wounded requiring medical air transport. 20,416 wounded who did not require medical air transportm an additional 8,273 for non-hostile injuries, 23,052 for diseases or other medical conditions, not to mention 1,186 Contractor deaths between March 2003 and July 2008?
WHY would a decorated war hero (which Viet Nam was NEVER a declared war, btw) KEEP SUCH A VITAL SECRET FOR HIS OWN POLITICAL GAIN?!?!? SO HE CAN GET THE CREDIT? Just like when he RUSHED to Washington, DC to GET CREDIT for orchestrating the $700B Boondoggle bail out? That then FAILED!?!?! Then McCain acts as if he knew it would fail?!?!?
There is a saying, "First they will deny a thing, then they will belittle it, then they will decide that it had been known long ago" - Alexander von Humboldt (19th century CE naturalist
For a ticket who claims they're all about change (after Obama started the change ticket, btw), they sure as hell run things as usual by withholding vital information, fail to act unless they can get the credit, and belittle anyone else with an original thought outside they're own...
Palin is the consumate "Con Artist." The word, "con artist" derived from the act of running "confidence games" on the unsuspecting. It is accomplished by gaining ones confidence by making the victim feel confortable and sharing commonality (i.e. Six pack Joe and Sally Hockey Mom, cute colloquialisms and using slang.). THEN once confidence is attained, it's the distraction method... as if to say, "I'm not going to answer questions you ask, so look over here at this orange!" Then, when it's so BLATANTLY obvious that this IS what she's doing, she TELLS you that this is what she intended and it wasn't a mistake... as if "it was known long ago."
Not to mention that she all but states that if - God forbid - John McCain gets into office, AND God forbid, he croaks while in office and she has to take over - it will then become a PALIN ADMINISTRATION not a continued McCAIN administration. She's like the golddigger who marries the old fart mogul, knowing he's gonna push daisies soon, just so she can get the dough and the power.
Boy... she gives womanhood a bad name.
Couldn't help but notice a few things that were blatantly obvious about Palin's responses last night:
1. She came off much better than any previous conversation, much less interviews.
2. There was a pregnant delay in many of her responses where, at times, she would shuffle through her papers not really looking at/for anything and then suddenly respond. She would smile as if listening to a personal joke...
3. She often responded off topic and then about the time we really started commenting on it... she says "I might not respond to the questions they way you want, or the moderator wants, but I'll answer the question the way I want.."
4. Finally, there was a move she made at the end... she pulled something out of her ear/hair...
Conclusion? SHE WORE AN EAR WIG! I think she wore a BUG in her ear to coach her what to say and that also accounts for her delay in responding. NOT that far fetched but I sure would like to know the truth. She cheated!
My husband is known for his many roles in the Horror Genre (we'd rather have our horror on the screen not on our news cast or in the white house...) especially for the Phantasm series and Bubba Ho-Tep. One project was a Zombie movie which they paradied into a pro-Obama campaign song - "Song of the Dead" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ5xDao0Gv4
As a notary, I've seen first hand questionable and preditory loans right here on the mountain. There's one that was particularly offensive and questio"nably illegal - the "Pick a pay plan." It fails fundamentally on so many levels but mostly on the law. California demands full disclosure and folks like WAMU only had a single disclosure statement showing the full amortized amounts of the finance you choose. Instead, the law calls for them to provide full disclosure of ALL options of payment plans.
This didn't happen last week, this week, last month or last year. It's been coming for years! PLUS this is not the FIRST time we've been asked to $700Billion bill! Go to http://www.thenation.com/blogs/thebeat?pid=237751 "The Senate agreed on Thursday to increase the federal debt limit by $850 billion -- from $8.965 trillion to $9.815 trillion -- and then proceeded to approve a stop-gap spending bill that gives the Bush White House at least $9 billion in new funding for its war in Iraq." This is not the first tiime we've been boondoggled and it will not be the last...
If we are to be called upon to bail out the very people that hold our mortgages - who would never give us the same courtesy - then we become shareholders in their corporations. As shareholders each and every US citizen who files tax returns should be issued stock certificates in each of the corporations that we "bail out."
At some point we need to say "NO means NO!"
My husband and I are both Veterans. I was in during Granada - he went to Viet Nam. I'm Regular Army and he was Conscripted - drafted.
The Bush, McCain and others complain about the poor retention rate of the military... This is not new. It was an issue when I was in during the `80's - officers came in and trained and then left after one tour. I started as a Code Breaker, was reclassified and assigned to a Provost Marshal. People of my clearance were leaving in droves. I went in for the college money. They took it away when, due to medications I had to take for Migraine, I was reclassified. Still even though I was Medically Retired I fought to stay in and go on to be a Warrant Officer. They didn't agree. First and Foremost I went in for the College and the opportunity that the training would bring.
If we want military retention, we must offer college credit for each year served in the Military.
"The New Deal was the title that President Franklin Roosevelt gave to a sequence of programs and promises he initiated between 1933 and 1938 with the goal of giving relief to the poor, reform of the financial system, and recovery of the economy during the Great Depression. The "First New Deal" of 1933 aimed at short-term recovery programs for all groups." --Wikipedia
Here we are, on the brink of a depression, losing jobs, losing houses, just a paycheck or less away from being the next homeless person beaten to death with a bat... this is what the Bush legacy has become.
Why NOT give folks jobs rebuilding our infrastructure? Our trains need tracks, our roads need replacing, our bridges and levies need rebuilding and restructuring...
Why NOT give folks jobs cleaning our roadsides, cleaning slums, removing graffitti, fighting fires, cleaning up and rebuilding after natural disasters?
WE NEED A NEW NEW DEAL!
The last couple of days I have received so many emails with LIES about Barack Obama's postions on many things. I looked in SNOPES and was surprised to see that Barack is being ATTACKED by EMAIL LIES like no one else. Check it out!
Here is the email I received, with my rebuttal. It looks like it is a combiniation of two spam lie emails in one. One about Baracks position and the other about his Tax plan. Please feel free to use this to respond to anyone who sends these lies around.

:
2008 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE COMPARISON TALKING POINTS
 ISSUE
JOHN McCAIN BARAK OBAMA
Yes No Will appoint judges who interpret the law not make it (Subjective and absolutely no basis for this)Yes No Served in the US Armed Forces - TRUEYes No Amount of time served in the US Senate FALSE. Obama was elected to Illinois State Senate, where he served for eight years. In 2004, he became the third African American since Reconstruction to be elected to the U.S. Senate.22 YEARS 173 DAYS Will institute a socialized national health care plan – (HALF TRUE) Obama will make available a new national health plan to all Americans, including the self-employed and small businesses, to buy affordable health coverage that is similar to the plan available to members of Congress. This is a VOLUNTARY PLAN if you are happy with the current insurance run healthcare you can keep it. Check it out for yourself. No Yes Supports abortion throughout the pregnancy TRUE – Barack does not feel it is up to him to decide for a woman, and feels women should have that choice. What he does believe is finding a way to minimize abortions. He does not want to go back to the time when women were dying because of unsanitary and hidden abortions. God said it is not up to us to judge. Let people make their own choices. No Yes Would pull troops out of Iraq immediately - HALF TRUE – Barack has repeatedly said, depending on the conditions on the ground, discussions with the Generals, plus he will force the Iraqis to take over the military operation, and bring our troops home safely in a responsible timeline. He WILL NOT pull them all out immediately. No Yes Supports gun ownership rights FALSE – Supports the constitutional right to bear arms and enforce our existing gun laws. He said this again at his nomination speech.Yes No Supports homosexual marriage – TRUE – Though he believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman, he thinks the government should only civil unions so that gay couples are not discriminated. No Yes Proposed programs will mean a huge tax increase – HALF TRUE – Only the top 5% will see an increase. (see below and in snopes) No increase on capital gains, and in fact lower taxes and programs supporting small business owners. No Yes Voted against making English the official language HALF TRUE – The bill in question was an amendment to an existing immigration reform bill. There were some problems with the bill so Barack voted against it. Here is Barack’s statement on this bill
“I believe the American people understand in order to succeed in our society, immigrants need to learn English. But the amendment would do a number of things that are problematical. The first is that it is contrary to the provisions of law that exist in many States. For example, in New Mexico, you have in their State Constitution, a provision that says that many of the documents within that State have to be provided in both English and Spanish. The same thing is true for the State of Hawaii. I believe this is a States’ rights issue, and those constitutions of those States ought to be respected. I do not believe it is a matter we ought to be imposing here from Washington DC.
Also, this amendment would undo an executive order conceived by President Bill Clinton and implemented by President George Bush. Both recognized it is important that people who have limited English proficiency receive the kinds of services so they can understand what is going on in terms of the interface between the Government and themselves. “
No Yes Voted to give Social Security benefits to illegals – HALF TRUE – This was NOT about giving SS benefits to illegal aliens, it was about whether a select group of formerly illegal workers (i.e., those who might obtain legal immigration if the 2006 immigration reform act would pass), should receive credit for payments already made into the Social Security system using phony numbers. No Yes
CAPITAL GAINS TAX
MCCAIN 0% on home sales up to $500,000 per home (couples). McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax. OBAMA 28% on profit from ALL home sales. Â (How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.)
DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN 15% (no change) OBAMA 39.6% - (How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that 'Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.')

Those willing their assets to loved ones will only lose them to these taxes.
NEW TAXES PROPOSED BY OBAMA
The Republican convention really upset me because of all the lies. It seems to me the RNC can only win on a lie. I gathered some of the facts. There was also a woman (friend of Carly Fiorina) who indicated that the President of the US has no power over the free-choice issue, so even though she was with Hilary and believed in pro-choice she was with McCain now. What she failed to note is that the President can chose the next 3 supreme court judges so far right that they will overturn Roe vs. Wade, and who knows what else in the name of GOD! and... I mean in the name of God as Governor Palin has tried to do so in her previous admininstrations.
