OH! P.S. YES WE DID!
Well it was a little touchy here at my voting place in Northern Kentucky. One machine went down, workers appeared to be confused - it was 6:00 in the morning though. But I did it. Proud to vote Obama/Biden ticket. Can't wait to get off of work this evening and watch the results.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Obama family. This has been an unbelievable experience.
Warmest thanks to all of the workers on this campaign. Let's win this election.
Like so many others, I am 45 years old, and have never been this involved in a presidential election nor have I ever donated money to a campaign before. I am a Kentuckian and am "Driving for Change" this Saturday to GOTV. Can't wait.
My support of Barack Obama started back in 2004 while I was watching the DNC. When he began his run for President twenty months or so ago, at that moment, I was 100% behind him. Nobody else. I'm very proud to say it has been Barack all the way.
One of the greatest side effects of this campaign has been my relationship with my 20 year old daughter. This is her first election. She is so into this campaign. She hasn't taken my word or opinion on anything. She has diligently watched the debates, read up on the internet and lots of talk around the table. She was(is) a Hillary supporter. Sen. McCain thought by taking this "maverick" woman with him, he would win votes like my daughter's and mine. NOT. So, I'm happy to say that she is also behind Barack. What an exciting time at our house.
As I walked into my neighborhood pub last night, proudly sporting my Obama/Biden button, when someone looked at my button and whinced. I had to ask if she really wanted to go there. She asked me why I was voting for "him". I said I can tell you from my own personal experience. I lost my job in 2005, I was making good money. I thought I would be okay until I found something else. I had some money in the bank to fall back on and, if need be, I had a ROTH IRA. I went on unemployment. It took me six months to find a job. There went my cash on hand. And, when I did find a job, it was a temporary one with no chance of permanent hire. The company had a hiring freeze on. So, now I have a temporary job, making a little more money than unemployment, no benefits, working farther away from home, everything costing more. There went my ROTH IRA. It took me 2 years to find permanent, full-time employment. Is it what I want to do? Probably not. But, its work.
She sat there listening to my story, nodding her head, appearing to be listening. I continued with my message of not being able to handle another 4 years of the same last 8 years. That we need a better America. And, how I feel that Barack Obama is the person to do just that. She asked me a few more questions such as is "he" a muslim and did "he" want to take guns away. I answered the questions and then she thanked me for my time and for clarifying some answers as to her worries.
I have often asked myself if I could answer questions knowledgeably about Barack. Thank you for having this website with all of its wonderful tools. I feel very confident on being able to answer questions on the issues.
I am so ready for November the 4th. Obama/Biden 2008 - Yes We Can
