(HPP). HPP CALLED FOR THE ANNULMENT OF THE ELECTIONS.
HAITIAN PRIORITIES PROJECT (HPP) takes this opportunity to thank all of its partners and contributors who helped achieved a careful and precise pre-election poll conducted in record time. Success was achieved despite the difficulties encountered in Haiti to produce reports in a time-sensitive manner. With the information provided to us by the people and our workers, and their respect for democratic principles in relaying and analyzing the facts as the people reported, our survey is by far the closest to the reality of the so-called elections on 19 April 2009.

Just came from the gas pump. Good news is gas is $1.99 in Missouri. Bad news is that there was a "power outage" and the pump became frozen at twenty three cents into my fill. Within 30 minues, the Owner/Manager reset the pump and all was well.
Began to wonder... what if a power outage happened at any one of the polling places; are they all on battery back-up? Is the software equipped to handle an outage? Will it lose the votes cast or other error? DO WE GET A MULLIGAN? Be sure someone from the democratic party in your area has this base covered. We can not take any chances of missing one single vote secondary to a glitch in the system.
I am still getting calls (robo and person-to-person) from the McCain campaign, even after I've called their main HQ and told them I have already voted, OBAMA-BIDEN! They must be desperate, as my landline has been ringing non-stop.
Many will come out in force tomorrow to VOTE FOR OBAMA-BIDEN. The lines will be long; patience will be tested. Be safe!
History has already been made... now let's get Senators Obama and Biden, over the finish line.
OBAMA-BIDEN '08
Its Get Out The Vote weekend. Massive groups of volunteers heading out the door with door hangers and flyers. Everything is becoming a blur. I'm so tired, but so keyed up I can't sleep at night.
We are a well oiled machine now. Volunteers come in the door, we train them, send them on their way, work, work, work. Last night I got a call on my cell phone. Conference call from Barack Obama. Me and 20,000 other volunteers across the country on hold to hear from The Man himself.
The pep talk was thrilling, but what stood out in my mind was the comment that he knew we were all tired, but we could sleep after election day. Ah, sleep.
Three more shifts of canvassers tomorrow. We have to finish all our packets, make sure all our supporters hear from us one more time.
Then its election day... open the staging location at five a.m., all my polling place volunteers in place by 5:30. What will happen? Will we have a record breaking turnout or will the long lines turn away our newly registered supporters? Will I survive the day?
No matter what happens on Tuesday, I'm sleeping in on Wednesday.
Hmm... we WILL carry Missouri... then I will sleep in on Wednesday.
Peace,
Bonnie
In recent presidential elections, 10 or more points would be considered a landslide. If that happens, a lot of down ticket Democrats are going to win too. Recent polls indicate we’re heading in that direction. We’ll see.
If Obama wins, I hope he appoints a veteran Prosecutor as Attorney General. This totally preventable financial meltdown is hurting a lot people, and it’s going to hurt a lot more. As we descend into some very hard economic times, people are going to be mad as hell and looking for some justice. It would serve Obama and the American people if his administration goes after the tens of thousands of people who created and benefited from this vast, epic Ponzi scheme. Let’s see some perp walks!
And speaking of justice, it's not going to be served up by our mainstream press. If Obama wins, I'm thinking on November 5th the media (led by Fox), is going to back up a dump truck with all of the Bush Administration failures, and dump it on Barack. Then the media shouting will begin. Obama, fix all of this stuff. Now!! There will be no mention of Bush or Cheney. The running theme will be, if the Obama Administration doesn't cure cancer, then it's a failure.
The other thing I’d like to see from an Obama win is a national plan to rebuild passenger rail between cities, commuter rail in our top 25 metro areas along with electric powered light rail, trolleys and buses for the top 50 cities. This would be a massive undertaking that would have many benefits. It would also get us out in front of the declining oil resources that have essentially stabilized in many oil fields and are rapidly declining in most others.
We’d better try to build this transportation system soon, or one day in the not too distant future, most of us are not going to be able to get from here to there.
If McCain/Palin wins (steals this one), head for the hills (or the streets)! The unmistakeable signal to the world is that America has quit our experiment in self government. Democracy on the run.

It was Friday evening when my phone rang one more time. Caller ID showed John, my Field Organizer. The only paid Obama staff in my county.
"Hi John."
"Hey Bonnie, how's it going?"
"Great! I just finished my last reminder call for tomorrow. We are all set."
"Well, call them all back. I just found out we have eleven Dutch journalists that want to shadow your canavassers tomorrow. First shift. You have to make sure we have an extra big crew, make sure they all come, no last minute cancelations, and see if you can get some more."
"Yipes! Ok, boss, thanks for the warning! Are you sure this time? You've told us twice before that we would have journalists and no body showed up."
"This time its real. Call them all back, call Kathy (my fellow team leader). This is big."
So much for a quiet evening! But this is the way things work in our swing state. Now that Missouri has definately gone blue (thanks I think to my team and all the other teams like it across this state) people are once again paying attention in and to Missouri.
My phone rang again. It was Kathy, my fellow team leader and volunteer recruiter extraordinair! John had gotten her at dinner and she and her husband were headed home so she could do her magic and persuade a few more of our incredible volunteer canvassers out there to get up early and make it in to our staging location, the basement of a friendly small business in our little town.
Kathy is truly amazing with her skills at getting people to volunteer. She and I make phone calls all week. I think I'm doing great when I get one or two volunteers in an hour of calling, then I talk to her and she has found five or six more people! kathy is the reason our team is doing so well. And, good for him, our field organizer John knows it, so when Barack Obama was in Kansas City at our huge 75,000 person rally, Kathy got to meet him back stage and get "an Obama hug."
So, its Saturday morning. I got my two teenagers up to canvass with us and we stopped at the grocery for a couple dozen donuts and creamer.
Sure enough, Kathy was able to just about double our first team from 16, which is pretty good for first shift Saturday, to 24. 2 people per route, and plenty for the eleven journalists to see. So the canvassers start to arrive, most of whom are old hands at this so we spend most of the training time just chatting and waiting for our guests. And waiting... and waiting. We drink coffee, I'm thinking my kids are going to eat all the donuts by themselves... and we get a call. The journalists are delayed, but will come later. So, out the door go our canvassers, sans journalists but in good cheer. We have their cell phone numbers and when (and if) the journalists arrive, we will call them back in to pick up a guest.
One person didn't show so I took a packet and the odd partner (we never send anyone out alone) and headed out, with Kathy holding down the fort. Sure enough, the journalists did arrive and Kathy was able to get some teams back to give the journalists a taste of the Missouri ground game. I think they were impressed. One journalist went out with a team containing our youngest canvasser, an adorable one year old, with her mother and a friend. Another went out with an energetic young couple who are always late, but always make it to canvass if they say they are. We had grandmothers and grandfathers, high school students, Hispanics, African Americans, an Asian American who just got her US citizenship this year. A typical group of Obama volunteers.
I spent some time talking to one journalist after we got back to the office. He asked me if I would have preferred Hillary Clinton, since I'm an older white woman, I guess he just assumed, I don't know. Anyway I told him that I liked the Clintons but I felt that Barack Obama was the better choice for this time. He was a nice guy and kept commenting about how friendly everyone has been to them. They had spent the day before in Ohio doing the same thing, and were heading back to Amsterdam the next day.
I found out today that these journalists were some of the best in the Netherlands, the guy I was talking to worked in The Hague... they were all print journalists. Kathy asked if they would give her a link to the articles so we could read them. Turns out they will all be written in Dutch. Oh well, I'm one of the monolinguals and I can't speak Dutch. When the articles are published we will have to get them translated, I guess.
Fun times. So next weekend is the last chance before election day. If you are able to walk, we need you, Barack Obama needs you, to help get out the vote!
a copy of my letter to the editors of Mo. newspapers:
November 4th, more than 80% of the Missouri electorate is predicted to vote. This unprecedented turn-out can easily be compared to the events (and lessons) of hurricane Katrina. Metaphorically-speaking, we know that a category-5 storm is coming; we know the day and hour; we know the levees may not hold—and we know Missouri, a toss-up state, is in the eye of the storm.
Missouri Election Boards: are we ready? Will each polling place be properly staffed, with an appropriate number of machines? Are voting machines distributed equitably, calibrated accurately to avoid any possibility of a hanging-chad moment in Missouri? What's the recourse for worst-case scenarios?
Let voters know what they can do to help ensure a smooth election.
Let the public know your preparations to boost confidence and ensure every vote will count.
