The Deficit Spending question I responded to the journal@c-span.org on 11/25/2008.
You have to think of our situation like a mass car wreck during blizzard. The economy is the first patient to be treated but the most important one. The Economy has to be brought to a stabilizing state before we can obtain a healthy recovery. Like In any emergency room, you do not add up the cost of emergency care use to make the patient stable but once you have been moved from ICU do you figure out if you’re able to pay the emergency room bill as well as the hospital stay. True, it may take a generation to move us to meeting the full payment of this debt but without it the patient [the economy] does not survive. Once the patient [the economy] is allowed to grow stronger then you can decide how to pay the debt. This can happen only if the patient can work after a full recovery is achieved. All working parts must be moving and healthy to develop the correct therapy to maintain a long-term recovery. So, the deficit number should not be our primary concern but how to achieve the long-term recovery where the debt can be addressed. Meanwhile, the wreck did not happen between two vehicles but many and it will take a while to clear the wreck from the road. Yes, this will require our patience until we heard good news. Consequently, we will all have to pray for a good solid recovery once we have been taken off life support measures. Unfortunately, we are still in surgery with the Obama surgeons at the moment waiting for a promising sign of good health.
I believe some of own worst critics are short-sighted and have not counted on many unforeseen events about to happen in our economy. It should not require a genius to tell us that all the factors and new factors that are about to interact within this new economy can create a lot more possibilities than the old model we have been using for decades can project.
Georgians Remember to Vote for Jim Martin, Jim Powell, and Sara Doyle in December 2nd Runoff. We need you now more than ever to keep our momentum toward a brighter future.
Don't forget to volunteer! Make some phone calls, canvass or volunteer to take people to the polls. Our Recovery can not happen without your continued support.
I recently had a friend write the following:
To My Bought & Paid For Senators & Congressman,
Voters are obviously outraged over this Wall St. bailout bill. The tweaks to the bill that I've read about this morning (9/30/08) are not going to make the bill any more acceptable to voters. The premise of the bill is flawed to the point of being worthless. It is so flawed that people who know NOTHING about economics or finance know the bill is completely unfair and will not solve our problems. This is what I think voters will support (in order of importance):
1) Law enforcement. Start indicting and arresting large numbers of people who committed wire fraud and others crimes in this epic Ponzi scheme. Rule of law still means something to large numbers of voters.
2)Help middle and working class families. Substantially reduce INTEREST RATES on all mortgages and credit cards. Put a cap on credit card interest rates. That would help millions, reduce foreclosures and kick start the economy.
3)Reestablish regulatory oversight over financial institutions and products. Start monopoly busting. Break up some of these concentrated mergers which are anti-competitive.
4) Help some of the bankrupt financial companies go out of business in an orderly fashion-to calm public fears and the "market".
Put together a plan with those four points, and you will get the vast majority of voters to support you and the rest of the Congress.
My response was provided as follows:
Your Point is well taken [that outrage exist] but misfires on what the bill is about. This is about bailing out the average American from the harm already done by Wall St.
1. FBI investigations are taking place as we speak and write about the plan. Section 127 would have had several agencies working together to get to the bottom of the investigations as a joint effort.
2. Mortgages that are about to re-adjust should find shelter in this bill. Section 124 of the bill was entered to strengthen homeowner eligibility to qualify to revise their mortgage before foreclosure is possible as well as improve tools to prevent a foreclosure.
3. Section 125 establishes a Congressional oversight Panel to review the mistakes made by these financial institutions to submit reform proposals to put necessary regulations in place.
4. The purchase of the banks troubled assets would have added stability to "market" & calmed fears. Some still would have been still sold off but they would be more attractive to a more stable entity making it orderly.
So, I believe most of the public has been miseducated on this issue but that does not surprise me. I am totally surprised that once again the American public has been mislead away from what is in their best interest.
None of the Wall Street" movers" or "shakers" are going to be hurt if we do not pass a measure to increase credit within our monetary system, just the average folks that are working hard for their families and dreams. Therefore, the Outrage is misplaced & serves no fruitful purpose.
Let me add this:
The easy way out of all of this is to do nothing. Like this drought Georgia has been experiencing, Did we have to go without water to understand we need to conserve? No! All of us pulled together to reduce our consumption and prayed the drought will end soon. Well, our economic situation is the same way. We all can pull together to get something done rather than let the whole system languish into economic choas.
A message from Kelly:
McCain could not bring himself to make the logical choice for VP since Mitt Romney had proven himself to be a good candidate for the top of the ticket. In fact, at 55 percent, he received more votes than everyone else combined. "Nobody" was second, with just 15 percent, and was followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (8 percent), Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (6 percent), former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (6 percent), and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (3 percent). The former governor of Massachusetts ran far ahead of the pack. (source: National Journal) So, McCain picked Gov. Palin, of course, since she is not the logical choice for top of the ticket.
Not too long ago, we heard the McCain Camp question why was Hillary not vetted for the VP pick by the Obama Camp? Of course, no one picked the right answer and omitted an explanation to create a riff between supporters. The real answer to that question still has not been addressed. The answer is obvious folks. HILLARY ASKED OBAMA NOT TO VET HER FOR THE VP Slot. To be honest, Hillary has her eyes on the prize and it will last longer than 8 years folks! But Hillary will not get the prize unless Obama is elected in November. However, you have to now wonder why was Romney not selected for the VP slot? I bet, we never received a honest answer to that question within the last 62 days before the election. Why pick unknown? Why not air her video life story out during the convention? It was not Shown as prepared. Why was it shelved at the last minute? Maybe, it needs more work? And why was Palin picking a fight with Michelle Obama in her Speech? This is curious by the moment. This is judgment and leadership being shown here?
As the National Journal reports Insiders predict that Palin will top the Republican ticket in four years if she isn't elected vice president in November said, "She is unique, has captured the affection of the party's conservative base as a true conservative, and has the national stage over the next two months to establish her credibility with swing voters. Do not underestimate her: She is a phenomenon."A survey of right-of-center bloggers was more divided; Romney won, but with a plurality of less than one-third, barely ahead of Palin and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. The mood toward Romney was summed up by one respondent: "Alas." A blogger who picked Jindal said, "I think the field would be quite wide-open in 2012, but the base will demand a 'fresh face,' someone with a record of accomplishment, and someone who's not identified as an old Washington hand."(my emphasis added.) I'll let you response to these open questions and possibilities then you decide if McCain deserves a free ride being called a true Maverick.

It has finally sunk in. McCain pick Palin because he could not pick Liberman. How does that equal GOOD JUDGEMENT? Here are some random opinion by other folks out there in the world:
PALIN IS A PHONY First of all, I will say I am impressed with some of the accomplishments but I STRONGLY DO NOT BELIEVE SHE SHOULD BE ONE STEP FROM THE PRESIDENCY - ESPECIALLY WITH A PRESIDENT WHO COULD VERY WELL BECOME INCAPACITATED WITHIN 4 YEARS. She is petty and shallow. Her first speech when introduced to America was a tribute to specifically G. Ferraro and Hillary Clinton. She did not see any greatess in Republican females such as Condi Rice and Kay Bailey Hutchison? She was pandering obviously to Hillary Clinton female voters and so she - like McCain - really think voters are stupid and cannot see through their ploy. She is already lying to her constiuents so she has demonstrated to me that she will easily lie to the American People while in the White House. My mother has many of the GOOD QUALITIES THAT PALIN HAS BUT SHOULD NOT BE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.
Family values???? Both sides say that the children of candidates are off limits and I agree. But the candidates themselves are not, and Sara Palin's daughter's pregnancy shows just how hypocritical Palin is. Its alright for teenagers to have sex, even tho the Republican party has spent billions of taxpayers' dollars to promote abstinence only. (This is a case in point-in addition to substantial research- where this failed policy failed!) And its ok to get pregnant because that proves you didnt use the about to-be-outlawed evil birth control methods. And its ok to have a baby out of wedlock, as long as you dont have an abortion! Is this the much flaunted family values of the religious right, of which Sara Palin is an avid proponent? Of course if this were happening to a Democratic candidate's daughter, the child would be driven out of town on a rail as a hussy and tramp!
I hope this is the reaction McCain was looking for because this is the ONE that will show up at the voting polls. His selection shows the contempt Republicans normally have of the American People. They think we are stupid. This is an insult to the American intelligence level to believe this individual has any comparison to Barack Obama & for her experience she is positioned correctly as VP. This is what the Republican Party line is sprouting now. What do you think?
Here is something interesting I found at MoveOn.org Members for Obama:
Jude Jones came across this video from a year ago, where McCain agrees with Bill O'Reilly about the danger of the "changing complexion" of america and the "left" trying to "break down the white male power structure" and how awful that would be:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysoOB9w0tF4
I have a project for all our Obama Supporters. We need to share our enthusiasm with our Oldsters as well as our young voters. A recent article in the Washington Post claims we are in the middle of a Generation Gap since Oldsters favor McCain out of familiarity. [ http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/08/13/obamas_boomer_strength.html?hpid=topnews]
Let’s make it our mission to make Oldsters aware of Obama's message of inspiration & give them his Plans that Obama has Outlined for our future under an Obama administration. Let them know that familiarity should not be the key to their votes since that has lead them to this point in time of $4 gas & milk in their lifetime. If Robert Reichert, the mayor of Macon, GA., thinks Georgia has progressed enough to consider the possibilities of a brighter future under an Obama administration, they should too.
Another project for all our Obama Supporters. Write Ms de Rothschild at contact@together4us.com and tell them what you think their ambush plans for Obama and his supporters. As the New York Observer states "to run anti-Obama commercials during the convention—and a blog radio show called No Quarter (featuring a “Reading Rezko” edition)." [http://www.observer.com/2008/politics/defiant-clinton-women-refuse-support-obama]
They claim these actions will Unite the Party after building a platform around Hillary Clinton's nomination at the convention. What do you think about these groups?
... most people do not go out in search of facts or sound arguments. Rather, they let information find them.
And when it is delivered by established news sources, then the receiver's threshhold of skepticism is considerably lower than it might otherwise be.
Since whatever is sensationtional is what gets talked about, the "Celebrity" narrative that the McCain campaign has been developing - insistently and consistently - is what is going to reach people. Never mind that the "substabtive" policy related portions of these ads are entirely false. The things we hear shape our opinions and inform our choices. Someone tuning into the campaign season now is going to see and hear this story told everywhere not just by McCain, but by the news outlets who talk about it, and it is going to affect the way they think about their choice at the ballot.
In these past 18 months we have seen how easily misinformed people can become: a message that starts out simple and clear one day - that then has to make its way through an savage obstacle course of noisey gaffes/scandals/distractions and patent lies - ends up mangled and distorted, mishapen and full of static, so much so that what the receiver hears has not the remotest resemblance to what the initial messenger said.
The McCain campaign obviously knows this, and they are exploiting it for all its worth. They have now managed to get the antichrist meme into Time magazine. So what started out months ago as an outlandishly fringe fear mongering fantasy that made its way through individual email boxes has now made its way into an established news medium where it will automatically enjoy some measure of credibility for many readers.
The irony here is that McCain's campaign get to saddle Obama with their own characteristics: they portray him as frightening and devoid of empathy and substance by running a frightening campaign devoid of substance and empathy.
As Rival John McCain chose to criticize where Obama did not go on his international tour, how much the press was having a “love fest” with its coverage of Obama, and taking credit for the surge working when it had nothing to do with the change in Iranians’ attitudes, McCain blames Obama for the $4/gal gas prices. This is totally False!
McCain has been in office for how long? He was “First elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Arizona in 1982” according McCain’s own website. It would be a truer statement to say the reason why we are at $4/gal gas prices is McCain’s Fault. He was in office for so many years without changing the course of this country’s oil dependency. What did his party do to change the course of this outcome? Let’s do a reality check. NOTHING! They created this blunder and have the audacity to blame some one who has recently joined the ranks of fixing “Republican’s Mess.” For Over the Pass Thirty years, the Democrats have tried to change our course and the Republican’s blocked it every time. If they had listened to other pass Democratic Presidential candidates and Democratic Presidents, we would not be in this mess today. The current conditions are the results of the Republican’s plans for America. I clearly remember there declaration called “Contract for America.” Folks, this is the final produce and only promises to get worst if given the reins again.
McCain’s latest commercials blaming Obama for the $4/gal gas price is a LIE! In 1978, “Ministers of 13 OPEC nations meet in Abu Dhabi and agree December 17 to raise oil prices by 14.5 percent in four stages by the end of 1979, from $12.70 per barrel to $14.54 by October 1, 1979. Libya and Iraq have demanded increases of 20 percent or more but agree to the lower hike, thus ending an 18-month price freeze. The OPEC accord affected about half of all world crude oil production.” What was the response of the Republican Party in session when a declaration came first from OPEC? NOTHING! In 1982, the United States had been importing about 25 percent of Libya's oil output—some 150,000 barrels per day valued at roughly $2 billion per year. At that time, Libya “had threatened the United States with war if U.S. ships or planes violate his country's self-proclaimed territorial waters in the Gulf of Sidra.” What was the response of the Republican Party in session regarding these threats?…an Embargo and allowed the U.S. oil companies operating in Libya to bypass the embargo. (Source:www.answers.com) Let’s deal with Reality, folks, and stop letting the talking heads lead us to a complete ruinous path. The current AMERICAN condition is the results of the Republican’s plans for America.
You gotta love the love Le Figaro is showering on Senator Obama. [I apologize in advance for posting untranslated texts - I'm a bit squeezed for time. Just know it's all good.]

[From Le Monde]

China admits taking, burying US POW from Korea By ROBERT BURNS, AP Military WriterThu Jun 19, 7:12 PM ET
WASHINGTON - After decades of denials, the Chinese have acknowledged burying an American prisoner of war in China, telling the U.S. that a teenage soldier captured in the Korean War died a week after he "became mentally ill," according to documents provided to The Associated Press.
China had long insisted that all POW questions were answered at the conclusion of the war in 1953 and that no Americans were moved to Chinese territory from North Korea. The little-known case of Army Sgt. Richard G. Desautels, of Shoreham, Vt., opens another chapter in this story and raises the possibility that new details concerning the fate of other POWs may eventually surface.
Chinese authorities gave Pentagon officials intriguing new details about Desautels in a March 2003 meeting in Beijing, saying they had found "a complete record of 9-10 pages" in classified archives.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080619/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/us_china_pow_revelation.................................................
Keep in mind John McCain has been no friend to thePOW advocates including Rolling Thunder. In the 90's, he was rude to the sister of a POW still missing from Vietnam when he kept insisting there wereno more Prisoners of War. The senator almost singlehanded stopped all further searches for Prisoners of War. He has lost many a veteran vote on this one issue alone. I hope someone or maybe Obama himselfwill bring this issue up on the campaign trail. Thearticle was sent to the AP from Advocates for POW searches. I hope someone can get this little doozy of info to the Mainstream media, not that they will show this but Olberman just might. If we are just finding out about a Korean war vet,how many more were sent to other countries especiallyChina while all the while McCain and his surrogatescontinue to harp on Obama regarding unconditional negotiations with our adversaries.
Meanwhile, we have a huge trade with China and theSenator from Arizona helped negotiate and resume relations with Vietnam without any conditions ofinfo regarding prisoners of war. The fact is, heflat out denied that anymore prisoners were beng held anywhere. Many veterans of the Vietnam era believed all alongthat POW's were moved to Laos or China. China would bevery probable due to their part of the war and supplying the North Vietnames Army with weapons against American troops.
McCain has a huge problem with this veteran votingbloc that appears to have just gotten bigger. If weare just learning about Korean POW'a what about the Nam POW's? Pretty embarrasing time for this article to surface, what with Cindy in Vietnam doing her charity work in that neck of the woods. Someone needs to ask a former POW why he just doesn't feelother POW'a or their remains need to be discovered?

Is it over yet?
No! We regroup and begin again. Here's the latest Folks!
Good Morning Kennesaw and Acworth!
I am the Northwest Atlanta Metropolitan Organizer for the Obama campaign, newly arrived on the ground here in Georgia. I just wanted to point you toward an important voter registration event in the Kennesaw/Acworth area this coming Saturday, June 14th at noon. We’ll be meeting at the Twisted Taco (address included in link below) and heading out to register voters at targeted locations. Sign up here so we know to expect you:

You all have a great group of dedicated volunteers already in Kennesaw, so I would urge you to get plugged in as soon as you can if you are interested in helping to lead the efforts. Come to the organizational meeting this Thursday, June 12th at 7 PM at US Play at 775 Cobb Place Blvd. We’ll discuss the Saturday event and beyond, and continue developing plans for moving forward. Sign up here if you can make it:

Lastly, we are building a massive volunteer movement across the state of Georgia. Barack is within striking distance of Senator McCain here but there is no way we win this state without a tremendous voter registration push and a huge outreach effort to swing voters and new voters. You can be a crucial part of kicking this movement off by hosting a house party, where a campaign staffer will help you plan to have people over to your house and make the pitch to bring them on board to the most substantial person-to-person grassroots effort in campaign history. Be a part of making this history and host a house party on Saturday, June 28th. You can sign up by going here:

I have been working on this campaign since last June, and I can tell you that I have never been more excited to be a part of this campaign than since I’ve come to Georgia.
You all have gotten off to a tremendous start, and I see the incredible potential we hold in the palm of our hands. All we have to do is step up as a collective group and this state – and likely the presidential election – will be won. Imagine waking up on November 5th and realizing you’d been a part of electing Barack Obama as President. I hope you won’t wait any longer to join us and make that a reality.
Regards,
Charlie Anderson
