BEWARE...
ABSENTEE BALLOT POSTAGE DIFFERS FROM COUNTY TO COUNTY Absentee Ballots vary from county to county in most states. Here is Broward county, Florida the ballot will cost $1.17 to mail back. This all depends on how many "extras" the county has on the ballot. This translates into extra ballot pages in the packet, thereby creating a higher than usual postage. Most states should have the postage required, printed on the instructional page of the ballot packet. Here in Broward County, the pages are printed in black ink but the postage requirement on that instructional page is printed in red ink.
If yours does not have the postage listed, please take the ballot INTO the nearest post office so that they can properly weight the envelope and apply correct postage.

A Change We Can Believe In: The Future Educational System
With strong leaders, in seven years, there can be an entire city in the United States with a simulated town that will be an International Cyber City Educational University (ICCEU) for Digital Natives who are connected by electronic controls on their cell phones with real life photos and sounds so that they can communicate and learn their math, English, science and social studies through electronic games, real life situations, and actually see the geographical locations around the world. Children raised on technology are digital natives and we as adults are digital immigrants (Mahoney, 2007; Oldham, 2007; Shafer, 2007).
Cyber City University accepts students from birth through college graduates. Graduates from pre-school, high school, and college will earn credits, degrees, or skill certificates indicating their level of competency based on a comprehensive portfolio of activities, exams, and projects. This university will enroll students from birth through college, and through out their life they can take continuing education classes after graduating.
It will be completely financed with federal funds obtained by increasing the FAFSA student’s loans and grants to a total life time grant of $300,000 and loans to $200,000. These loans can be repaid by volunteering into a community service program.
The teachers will all be real life workers: doctors, lawyers, congressmen, captains, contractors, welders, engineers and teachers who grew up in the electronic age and are able to communicate fluently in the digital language or those who are certified in the digital language of electronic educational games. The digital immigrants, adults or teachers who rely on books and black boards to teach, will be retrained and will be able to assist the older generation students to learn to adapt to the language of digital natives, conduct the real life simulations at the central University or be available to assist students who call or post responses to questions (Mahoney, 2007; Oldham, 2007; Shafer, 2007).
The curriculum for science will be real life experiments, actual relays from satellites communicated by astronauts in space or at NASA Space Center in Houston, Texas. The students will be able to repeat the experiment with a digital camera built in to their cell phone and manipulate the objects in the central school. There will be real life surgeries and medical procedures simulated with consent given for viewers. Students will be able to simulate surgery through games to learn the anatomy. They will have to increase to actually doing the surgery in a game after they prove they can identify, and pronounce all the body parts or other higher level thinking questions.
The English and reading comprehension will be given in the form of directions for the games or letters to be written to advance in the game. It will include the writing of proposed Bills to go to Congressmen, letters to senators, governors, businessmen, or local, national or international posts to the discussion boards.
The social studies curriculum will be pictures across the universe with real life storms, volcanoes, divers in the ocean, and interactions with students at those extensions of this international university. The government section of the curriculum will include access to see the Congress in session and other governmental day to day situations around the world so that they can compare and contract the benefits or effect of governmental decisions on their lives.
The business education and math section of the curriculum will include real life banking transactions, lawyers who will write contracts for real life situations (applicants will consent to disclosure). There will be grocery stores that purchase products from wholesalers, pay taxes, calculate cost, and make inventories. There will be employees, accountants, and customers who make purchases. There will be hair dressers who cut hair, make acrylic nails, or sculpture eyebrows. The students will be able to practice using a simulator type educational game. There will be captains on tug boats and tankers to teach maritime skills. There will be airplane mechanics and simulation mechanical engineering exercises. There will be contractors, welders, sheetrock contractors, brick masons, painters with a simulator game for students to practice independently. There will be engineers building bridges, and roads to teach geometry, and algebra. There will be a vocational education game for most major careers. This will teach them real life math skills and prepare them for careers.
Each child will have a portfolio of skills that they acquired and be given certificates after they accomplish various levels or acquire skills. These certificates will be used for employment purposes.
Discipline will be real life health and relaxation centers and every child will have relaxation chairs with massagers to reduce stress and they will all have organically balanced meals that they order and that are delivered to their door daily from farms and kitchens operated by the prison system and illegal immigrants who desire to obtain work visas.
Education of the future will be multi-sensory, real life applications using digital technology, cameras, cell phones, and electronic games will replace books and blackboards. Exams will be the ability to complete real life applications or to solve problems. Parents and will be able to see and interact direct with the education of their child as they can also observe the interaction of their child and communicate with their teachers using digital communication devices.

So... Election day draws ever closer. I am trying to get my group at school started, and it is going quite well. I will try to get people up and going in Thurston, but alas, a town of 500 is harder to persuade then you think. It is strange how this campaign is working, but maybe that is the power outage getting to me. Well, hopefully it will come on tomorrow or so, but until then, the ice will have to do. I also hope that I can get more of a crowd going for my group at Liberty Union.

Last week, John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin gave two electrifying speeches at the Republican National Convention in Minnesota - the most watched convention speeches in history!
Thousands of you attended McCain Nation convention-watching parties all across the country in support of our ticket and we thank you for your support. We're in the midst of a busy fall season with just over 50 days left until Election Day. The first presidential debate will be held Friday, September 26th, at the University of Mississippi.
And after months of running away from John McCain's joint town hall meeting invitations, Senator Obama will finally have to face John McCain one-on-one. [What kind of crazy BS is this?]
The first debate is something you won't want to miss and that's why I'm asking you to host or attend a McCain Nation Debate-Watching Party Friday, September 26th. Follow this link to host or attend a Debate-Watching Party on September 26th.
As the host of a McCain Nation party, you will receive a packet of resources including a suggested party agenda, campaign information and McCain-Palin gear. We're asking you to register your party before Monday, September 22nd, to receive this packet in advance of your party.
Our campaign sincerely appreciates the hard work you all are doing at the grassroots level to elect John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin as the next President and Vice President. It is extremely important work that will make all the difference in securing a win on November 4th.
Thanks again for your support.
Sincerely, Rick Davis Campaign Manager

I recently emailed all the principals in our area asking if they’d consider helping out with getting students (who’d be 18 by the time of the general election) registered to vote. After calling my local Board of Elections to confirm that all of this was OK (the call lasted all of 30 seconds and YES it was AOK for our area), I asked the principals if they would: • include a blurb about the importance of registering to vote in their newsletters, along with info on where to register • include a link to the Board of Elections in any relevant emails that were going out to families so they could get info and voter registration forms online
• put out blank voter registration forms in their offices
I’d like to encourage everyone to do this as it is an easy way to catch unregistered students. As always, PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR BOARD OF ELECTIONS OFFICE BEFORE UNDERTAKING ANY SORT OF VOTER REGISTRATION ACIVITY to make sure you know the rules and regulations in your area. Here are the links to the offices: FIND VOTER REGISTRATION FORMS AND READ UP ON ANY REQUIREMENTS YOU MAY NEED TO FULFILL FOR REGISTERING VOTERS IN YOUR STATE. For 44 hours, August 13-16, Claire and I talked to people about Barack Obama. Our booth was adjacent to that of the Democratic Party, so we also were able to meet candidates for office in the current election. The primary is tomorrow. People from the Obama websites visited the booth and so did many students from various part of the country. I had my iPod and played the audiobook of 'Audacity of Hope.'
The next event I will attend will be on August 28 in zip code 90064. I hope everyone is getting together with friends for Barack's acceptance speech.
This is from the Huffington Post and I totally agree, Obama needs to appeal to the right side of the brain (EMOTION) coupled with specifics. Something that catches a viewer's attention and goes beyond a "10 point plan". I am all for Obama but we can't take this dip in the polls lightly. According to electoral-vote.com, this time in 2004, Kerry was doing better than Obama was. After he was swiftboated, starting September, he went down, down, down.
Obama's Olympic Ad a Total Waste of Money Paul Abrams Fri Aug 15, 7:40 AM ET So, Barack Obama will put people back to work, cut taxes for the middle class, end tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas, provide incentives for companies that grow jobs in the US, and make Barack Obama to solve their problems. It comes across very cheesy and slick for an announcer to deliver that message. It seems like a product commercial when what needs to be conveyed is trust. Lesson #1: To connect Barack Obama to the voter, have Barack Obama's voice and figure in 90% or more of the ad. It will come across as more sincere--because it is! And, the more people get to know Barack Obama the more they like him. So why is he left to say only, "I am Barack Obama and I approved this message"? Secondly, connecting with voters right-brains begins with claiming the moral high-ground. That should be a key part of any message. That should be easy--the moral high-ground has been unoccupied for 8 years. Pick your issue(s). Foreign policy: "It is wrong and weakens our military to have US troops tied down in Iraq awaiting the Iraqi politicians to settle their difference. Starting a war with Iraq was a terrible decision". Healthcare: "We cannot be a competitive or caring nation if all our citizens do not have healthcare". Energy: "Our dependence on foreign oil weakens the country, and subjects the American people to gas prices determined by foreign dictators". Education: "Your children deserve an education that allows them to compete in the world, and they deserve well-paying jobs when they graduate". Budget: "We had a surplus when Bush took over; we now have the largest debt in world history; that is not what we should be leaving to our children and grandchildren. Rule of law: "Our success as a nation has depended upon faith in our democratic processes and the application of the rule of law. We need to restore faith in our democracy, starting at the highest levels of government." Economy: (taking a page from Hillary!) "For the last 8 years, most Americans have been invisible to the Bush/McCain Republicans"---and then, for one ad, he can talk about McCain opposing the GI Bill of Rights because too many would go to college (pictures of people in uniform, then becoming people graduating, then working); another ad, he could talk about McCain opposing extending SCHIP, with pictures of schoolchildren getting vaccinated)... Thirdly, the ad should distinguish Barack from McCain. Occupying those moral high-grounds, and others you can easily design, provides such obvious contrasts with Bush/McCain that I need not even write them. But, Barack needs to speak them in the ads, not assume people will get it. Note: these distinctions are NOT at the level of policy detail, but at the higher level of good and right vs. bad and wrong. And, at that level, Obama should rip McCain to shreds with two well-crafted sentences. Fourthly, the ad needs to embrace the American people, and convey Barack's general message that he will not do this himself, but that he knows that the American people can rise to this or that challenge, as we always have before. (Photo images of Barack's big crowds and another of a small 'working group'). Fifthly, the ad should have something that connects to Barack's life--his mother without health insurance, just paying off their student loans, Michelle as the product of an investment in public education, his faith in the American people based upon what THEY accomplished when he worked as a community organizer, his own connection to his children ages 7 and 10 and the future he wants for them, and all other children, and so on. Sixthly, having seized the moral high-ground, having sharply distinguished himself from McCain, and having embraced/included the American people as up to the challenge and part of the solution, he should convey his commitment to whatever the subject of the ad is. One way to do that is repetition--what is in the ad on that subject becomes a phrase in his stump speeches, and vice versa. Another unique means for Barack is to remind people that he is not only going to fight the highly-paid lobbyists, he has already begun by not letting them contribute to his campaign, and he will go over their heads, directly to the American people, to get done for them what they deserve. McCain talks-the-talk, but he does not walk-the-walk. He could end every ad by saying "Only Barack Obama has not taken any lobbyist, special interest money. McCain bathes in it". Seventhly, stop letting the Republicans determine the message. The foreign trip was a great success, and only the careful manipulation of the media by the rightwing neutralized it. Most Democratic campaigns take such information and (wrongly) conclude that they should run away from those events. Balderdash. Twaddle. The Republicans showed their vulnerability, their anxiety about Barack's appeal. They are telegraphing that the positive exploitation of such images could mean the end of their campaign. Here is a man, Barack Obama, who not only handled himself well on the world stage, and thus can restore respect and dignity as the leader of the free world, but who was able to stimulate great enthusiasm for the US overseas. "Won't it be easier [note: when times are hard for people, seeing a way they can become easier, is a great Right-Brain connector; and note again, I said "seeing" a way, not being lectured about crowd sizes] for the US to solve major international problems when the US regains respect by governments and enthusiastic support by the people?" And, show domestic images of Barack and large crowds. Use them, as suggested above, to tell people that, together, he and they can overcome the special interests, etc. It's palpable. It's real. The visual will take that message to the Right-Brain. Don't shrink. Fight. Use the images. Shove it back down their throats. And then every time they try to combat it by raising it as an issue, they actually call more attention to Barack's talents, and how that can translate into an easier and better life for the American people. It backfires on them. They will then shut up, and then the Obama campaign should repeat it incessantly. For the boomers a little clip of John Kennedy overseas, or Robert Kennedy in the US, to similarly large crowds will trigger some key emotional connections that he, Obama, is their chance of seeing the dreams they had, that were taken by assassins' bullets, realized in their lifetime. Finally, stop using polls to determine what is important to people. Most of us can tell you what a poll will say before it is taken. Perhaps not the exact percentages or even rank order, but close enough. The key is to realize that the results do not reflect what is really important to people, for the simple reason that none of us is so in tune with our inner psyches to be able to reflect them in Q&A. People spend years talking to psychiatrists trying to figure that out. And it is our inner psyches, not our analyses of 10-point programs, that determine our vote. I know, I know, that a great field organization is being assembled. I know, I know, that with such a field organization Kerry and Gore both would have won. I know, I know, he won the primaries, didn't he? Well, yes, but he got creamed in the last two months when the Hillary campaign started connecting with the Right-Brains of the electorates. So, how about jettisoning the failed Democratic campaign consultants' strategies? That's a change we would all welcome.
