Early Voting for the entire state of Florida has just been extended.
Every Early Vote location in Florida will now be every day from 7am-7pm up through November 2.

"I have a responsibility to the voters of our state to ensure that the maximum number of citizens can participate in the electoral process, and that every person can exercise the right to vote." Prior to the 2008 General Election, Florida has seen historic numbers of Floridians registering to vote for the first time. In addition, record numbers of voters have chosen to cast a ballot during early voting. Early voting began on October 20 and runs through November 2. Current Florida law allows for early voting to be conducted eight hours per day on each weekday, and for a total of eight hours during both weekends during the early voting period. Floridians can contact their county's Supervisor of Elections for dates, times and locations of early voting. Florida voters can also request absentee ballots to be mailed to them until October 29. I just got an email from the Obama Organizing Fellows saying I've been chosen, hee! The city where the training session will take place (for Florida people) is Gainesville, between June 14th and 16th.
I instantly told (read: yelled) to everyone in earshot, and called a few friends as well, one of whom lives in Gainesville and who I haven't seen since we graduated high school and will hopefully now get the chance to catch up with.
But I started wondering if there could be an organized carpool sort of thing for us Miami-ites to get up there. I don't remember anything like that being mentioned on the application, but I'm definitely going to ask when a rep from the campaign calls next week (as the email said they would).
Anyway, if I find out anything, I'll definitely post. But if there's any Miami people reading this who are interested in carpooling to Gainesville, LET ME KNOW =]!! I think this would be a great way for the Miami-area Obama supporters to meet, not to mention a less-expensive way of getting to Gainesville for the training =].

I'm soo excited about this summer!
Florida and specifically, Miami Dade County, has a history of absentee ballot voter fraud. A mail-in ballot would essentially be the same as an absentee ballot. PLEASE, whatever we do in Florida, let's not do it by mail.
I guarantee you; the zip codes that are projected to more than likely vote for Obama will have trouble getting their ballots. Something will go wrong at the post office. The ballots will not get to them in time. The elections department will say that the ballots were mailed in time. We won't be able to prove whether or not they were mailed and or ever received.
The mail-in process leaves too much room for human error or should I say human horror.
