The 3 decades of propaganda against Global Warming and Climate Change is perpetuated by Conservative voices which literally flood the airwaves. This mindset spills over to the general population.
Today I was watching CNBC to get my stock updates. Larry Kudlow on "The Call" announced, "It's Earth Day, I'm going to buy a Hummer, that's all I'm going to say about that." That was the only announcement.
Just prior to this segment Larry had made a profound statement regarding the suicide of Freddie Mac CFO. "What ever was wrong, it's only money, there are other things, spirtual things more important in this world."
I wrote to CNBC today and pointed out the science, the alarming findings and concensus among scientists across the globe that we face a dire situation. I suggested that the conservative point of view is misrepresenting the news and if they spent time really reading and exploring the articles and studies in the area of Climate Change they would perhaps see the issues with less jaded perspective. I suggested that Larry take some of his own advice and appreciate that there really are some things in this world more important than money, or his view.
It is reported that Wall Street and Corporates have hired hundreds of lobbyists to wage a war against the policies to put climate change into motion.
We need to clean up our own environment, but the greatest job at hand is to educate the public about the threats we face. The media has not done a good job of reporting Global Warming. There is a disconnect. When you read the studies in science journals and the national international counsels on climate change, and then read the newspapers, only a fraction of the story is being reported.
The public will believe what is being placed in front of them day after day. If they are lead to the comeback of Brittney Spear's, or the runner up on American Idol, then that is what captures the mind. But what about the news coverage of the melting ice shelf in Greenland? The nation of Maldives which is making plans to be submerged in the near future. Where is the guy camped out on the beach telling that story?
The problems are complex and the situation serious. The politicalization of Climate Change threatens us as much as burning fossil fuels.
I wrote to CNBC today to share my thoughts and to point out the role the media has to present the news and to educate the public. If everyone who appreciates the crisis we face begins a writing campaign to each and every media outlet to report the issue and not to perpetuate mis information that "Global warming is something you can choose to not subscribe to because it is made up". This is 2009 and the world's scientists are way beyond that notion.
CNBC engaged in dinasaur thinking today and needs to be called on it.

Dear Friend,
The Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) has a bone to pick with Michelle Obama. MACA represents chemical companies that produce pesticides, and they are angry that - wait for it - Michelle Obama isn't using chemicals in her organic garden at the White House.
I am not making this up.
In an email they forwarded to their supporters, a MACA spokesman wrote, "While a garden is a great idea, the thought of it being organic made [us] shudder." MACA went on to publish a letter it had sent to the First Lady asking her to consider using chemicals -- or what they call "crop protection products" -- in her garden.
I just signed a petition telling MACA's board members to stop using Michelle Obama's garden to spread propaganda about produce needing to be sprayed with chemicals. I hope you will, too.

Yesterday, Iron Range gave the type of hometown welcome its famous for when nearly 5000 people welcomed Senator Hillary Clinton to Hibbing.
Folks started lining up as early as 3 o'clock for their chance to hear Hillary outline Barack's vision for the kind of change Minnesota needs.
As Hillary looked out at the audience in the Hibbing Memorial Arena, she noted that the folks gathered there were "people who have been at the core of making America safe and making America work."
Just as the iron ore that made the steel enabled us to win these conflicts, Minnesota's Iron Range casts the votes that made the difference in statewide campaigns that elected John F. Kennedy, Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale. You have given more than your iron ore, your steel, and your votes. You have sacrificed for America... Before the September 11, 2001 tragedy, December 15, 1967 was a day to remember. 45 people met their death when the Silver Bridge collapsed into a bitterly cold Ohio river. Legends say the town is cursed, but I say our infrastructure is cursed. I believe that you will bring change. Your success will not only heal depressed region, your success will heal the seperation between all People in our Nation. Your success will inspire us to believe that Made in America really means something.
Over the past few months I have been speaking with manufacturers of consumer goods. They tell me how the department stores that we all shop at want to purchase goods at a cheaper rate. This leaves manufacturers with little choice to either get goods made abroad or go out of business. The ones that try to stick it out have a problem finding skilled workers that will do work at competitive prices. This means American made products have to be created with less people that have to work overtime. All we have are Walmart and Kmart to shop at, so how can we really stop buying goods from them? They put the local stores out of business some time ago. I wish you would really talk about this.
Heck, you can stay at our farm if you have a problem finding a place. If you do come I will let your family select a Christmas tree from Santa's Forest and I will deliver it to your house. My wife Jenna is real good cook.
