President Obama was chosen to be the 2009 Commencement Speaker at the University of Notre Dame's graduation ceremony. However, right-wing groups have been trying to rally support against this selection. The University has chosen to recognize the President's efforts to bring the country together and promote issues such as economic recovery, reforming health care, and environmental action (among others). http://www.newsday.com/news/local/politics/ny-usnotre0325,0,5854736.stor y Please sign the petition below indicating your support for the President and for the University of Notre Dame in their choice to promote the greater good over single-issue political games. http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/4ObamaatND

My brother, a sixth grader at the local public school, came over to my house this afternoon. "Everybody at school says that Barack Obama is going to raise taxes," he said, as if he was trying to ask me a question. I was shocked and annoyed. "That's simply not true," I replied. "He's going to cut taxes for 98% of Americans, starting with the poorest, which is more than John McCain is going to do."
David then asked me for proof that this was true so he could show his friends. I then wasn't sure where to go. There is so much garbage and mistruth circulating about what Barack Obama is or isn't going to do that I had to think what the most reliable source would be. In the end, I went to Obama's campaign website and looked up the tax relief plan he outlines there. Not only is he going to provide tax relief for 150 million people and eliminate taxes for the seniors who make under $50,000 a year; he is going to cut down beaurocracy so that I can file my taxes myself in two minutes or less, and save $2 billion doing so! (Just one of the many examples I have found to show me that Obama is thorough, thoughtful and, smart.)

Results from the primary election this past Tues:
Elkhart County: 27,206 votes, 59% Obama 41% Clinton Monroe County: 27,375 votes, 66% Obama, 34% Clinton
Monroe County is where Bloomington is, as in, Indiana University. So get this: Elkhart County, with no major university, no large metropolitan area, no high % of black voters, voted essentially in the same numbers as Monroe County. A couple points:

Posted April 29, 2008 09:55 RE: http://www.kokomotribune.com/opinion/local_story_117182946.htmlHillary Clinton says her economic policies will restore the economic policies of her husband's administration. However as the sub prime housing loans and dot com investment bubbles were created and pandered during her husband's administration, Hillary and her husband ignored Alan Greenspan's warnings of the irrational exuberance in these markets and both supported China's entry into the World Trade Organization without any conditions such as protecting the environment or labor and property rights to levels that are comparable to western standards. The U.S. government surplus (generated by taxes raised from the housing and investment bubbles) evaporated once the housing and investment bubbles burst.Furthermore, China today is not only a leading contributor to environmental pollution and global warming (thank you very much Mr. Nobel Laureate, Al Gore), it's also pushing up oil and other commodity prices, taking our jobs and stealing our intellectual property.Like the Roaring Twenties decade that preceded the Great Depression, the Irrational Nineties that preceded our current decade were both golden ages for technology, scandal-plagued politicians, corporate greed, and unrestrained personal debt and speculation. As the global economy teeters on the brink of economic meltdown not unlike the Great Depression, America doesn't need finger pointing and fear mongering, America needs a president whose economic policies are based on confidence, unity and reason. America needs Barack Obama. When political and military judgment mattered most to U.S. military personnel and the American people, both John McCain and Hillary Clinton failed as U.S. Senators to demonstrate any commander-in-chief qualities when without competent questioning, they both accepted the faulty intelligence used to justify the Iraq war and misjudged the Bush administration's strategy and competencies to lead the war effort.Barack Obama on the other hand demonstrated his superior judgment and commander-in-chief qualities when he took an unpopular position and cautioned that without clear rationale an invasion of Iraq would encourage the worst impulses of the Arab world and strengthen Al Qaeda's recruitment. Now, John McCain advocates maintaining U.S. troops in Iraq indefinitely which does little to push the Iraqi government to deliver the political reforms needed to restore civil unity whereas Barack Obama's threat to withdraw U.S. troops does more to promote the Iraqi government to deliver the necessary reforms.John McCain has repeatedly demonstrated that he lacks the wisdom, historical and cultural knowledge to judge the strengths and weaknesses of our enemies. After seven years of fighting the war on terror, John McCain in March 2008 showed he still doesn't know that Al Qaeda, a Sunni muslim terror organization, hates the Shia muslims as much as they hate the Christian west.As the threat of global terrorism persists, neither John McCain or Hillary Clinton have demonstrated any understanding of the complexities of building and maintaining global alliances to confront this common enemy. America needs a president with demonstrated commander in chief qualities, leadership and judgment. America needs Barack Obama. If experience, wisdom and judgment may be relied upon to judge a presidential candidate's abilities to solve problems, then let's look at the records of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.2007 - While Barack Obama promoted a restoration of balance between work and wealth in the Senate and criticized special interests for distorting U.S. tax codes, Hillary Clinton and her husband liquidated their blind trust of the nearly $50 million amassed during their years in public office.2002 - While Barack cautioned that without clear rationale an invasion of Iraq would encourage the worst impulses of the Arab world, Hillary told Larry King she didn't regret her vote on the Iraq war resolution because like the Bush administration, the Clinton administration viewed Saddam Hussein as a threat to the international community.1999 - While Barack secured bipartisan support for health-care reform and passage of low-income tax credits and child care subsidies in the Illinois legislature, Hillary supported her husband's Iraq "regime change" policy in order to divert public attention from the president's marital, legal and ethical infidelities.1989 - While Barack Obama served as the Harvard Law Review's first black president, Hillary Clinton then wife of the Arkansas governor received payments from a law firm that was doing the state's business and received board of director payments from Wal-Mart where she remained silent about Wal-Mart's anti-labor union practices.1979 - While Barack Obama was actively involved in the South African divestment movement to end apartheid, Hillary reaped profits of almost 10,000% in the futures markets and left taxpayers with her real-estate losses in the Savings & Loan bailout. While the public benefited from Barack Obama's public accomplishments, it was only Clintons who benefited from their personal agenda. The Clintons would have us believe that Hillary and Bill have been thoroughly vetted. If that were true, then why don't we have answers for:FOREIGN: How will Hillary know whether Bill's advice serves U.S. interests or the interests of his Russian, Chinese, Indian, Kazakhstan, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman or Brunei clients?MONEY: Do the Clinton Foundation, Clinton Library, Clinton campaign and Clintons tax records show a proper accounting for the sources and uses of funds?PARDONS: Will Hillary "reject" contributions or compensation from persons she pardons unlike her husband Bill who accepted contributions from Marc Rich, partner of Viktor Bout (the merchant of death), and her brother Hugh Rodham who accepted compensation from drug lords who were pardoned by Bill?It is not in the Clintons' nature to accept defeat without taking everyone else down with them and risking a Democratic Party schism reminiscent of the 1968 party convention. The Clintons are notorious for destroying their enemies using the tactics of Hillary Clinton's mentor and subject of her 1969 college thesis, Saul Alinsky. Ridiculing and goading your enemy were two of Mr. Alinsky's principal agitation tactics. If the tirades of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright may be linked to Barack Obama then John McCain must certainly share the Reverend John C. Hagee's views that the U.S. must join Israel in a preemptive strike against the Arabs, the Russians and the Chinese in order to bring about the second coming of Christ. After all, John McCain did solicit and proudly acknowledged the Reverend Hagee's endorsement in March 2008.Barack Obama has acknowledged that the Reverend Wright did bring faith in God to his life, however Barack Obama never solicited the Rev. Wright's endorsement and he rejected the deplorable comments of the Rev. Wright. If someone brings faith in God to your life, do you deny that person as Judas did Jesus or do you stand by the positive benefits that person has made on your life? You should no more deny the person who brought you faith in God then you should deny your parentage.Barack Obama has explained his relationship with the Rev. Wright and demonstrated that he is no Judas. John McCain on the other hand may reasonably be asked whether he now denies his abhorrence for the "agents of intolerance" as once labeled the likes of Reverend Hagee during his 2000 presidential campaign. For too long small-minded politicians, lobbyists, the media and talk-show hosts have used fear, division and rancor as instruments to maintain power and position in Washington.Barack Obama's means of governing through confidence, unity and reason threatens the Republican and Clinton fear mongers who are long accustomed with using fear, threats and ridicule as instruments to maintain power and position in Washington. Republicans want Hillary Clinton as the Democratic party nominee because the Clintons are comfortable with maintaining the status quo "divide and conquer" means of governance. It's refreshingly nice to see the better angels of America's character prevailing as voters vote for Barack Obama and reject the racial, religious and ethnic slurs being spewed by the divisive fear mongers of the McCain and Clinton campaigns.

"In four days, you get the chance to help bring about the change that we need right now. Here in the city and the state that gave birth to our democracy, we can declare our independence from the politics that has shut us out, and let us down, and told us to settle. We can declare our independence from the politics that's put the oil companies, and the drug companies, and the insurance companies in charge of the decisions that impact our lives and our children's lives. We can declare independence from the say-anything, do-anything politics that's all about how to win and not why we should; that politics that exploits our differences instead of speaking to our common concerns and our common destinies as Americans. We can do all these things, but only if we declare our independence from the cynicism and the doubt that tells us that change can't happen."
- Barack Obama, to a crowd of 35,000 outside Independence Hall in Philadelphia, 4-18-2008.

You will go through the metal detector screen, and the people at the desk will direct you to where to go to cast your vote EARLY for Senator Barack Obama for President. Takes 5 minutes! REASONS WHY VOTING EARLY IS A GOOD IDEA:
~~The polls in Indiana are from 6am- 6pm, on Tuesday, May 6th. For many who work this time frame is prohibitive.

~~There are rumors that due to the successful efforts to get the vote out, with 100,000 new registered voters that some polling places may ‘run out of ballots’…
~~Voting this way only takes a moment. NO standing in lines, no possibility of standing out of doors in inclement weather. Ideal for those with small children or senior citizens. Bring your grandparents out to lunch and then take them to vote for Obama.

Unfortunately Sillary was trying to really smear Barack. His answer, this is exactly the type of politics we need to move past. He is always the gentleman, always the peacemaker. Barack answered the questions honestly and from his heart. Once again his opponent was robotic and rehearsed sounding.
I think Barack showed voters everywhere who are undecided that he can keep his cool, move forward, and be very Presidential.
Okay so here I am at work bored as can be. Mostly becuase I work for an accounting firm and tax season ended yesterday. I have been going to all the news sites and been reading entries that people have put on their. WNDU.com did a piece on a roundtable discussion at Goshen College. As many of you are aware, Goshen College is based in the Mennonnite faith which is very conservative. Of the 7 students participating, 6 of them are backing Obama. I could not believe some of the posts on the site. CNN has also done a piece on Obama leading in some of the states and again while the majority of the posters are for Obama it is crazy how people who are against him do not know the facts. We need to do everything possible to get him elected. I have been talking to friends and family and encouraging them to get out and vote. I have also been posting on the websites when i can POSITIVE things about Obama and trying to set the record straight on people who are discrediting Obama. Here is the comment I have heard the most in the past two days. If Obama is elected, ALL taxes will be raised! Anybody have a clearer way that we can dispute this claim when we are talking to people?
:) YES WE CAN!! Obama 08
We need change! We need Obama!
From my blog post of today:
I heard from the volunteers in the Obama for Goshenoffice in the front of our building that they registered over 600 people to vote before the April 7 deadline + another 150 or so who renewed their old registrations.
That’s 750 people in a city that saw 5,482 voters turn out last November for a mayoral election…in other words, pretty impressive, regardless of who these new voters vote for. And that’s just voters that the Obama campaign registered — I’m guessing the overall number of new/renewed registrations is over double that. Very impressive in a city of 35,000.
The numbers across Indiana follow the same trend, with over 150,000 new voters registered since the beginning of the year. And of course, if you missed it, there’s the Republican voter registration official in Delaware County who punched a reporter in the face. He’s facing a 3 day suspension and anger management course…the probably didn’t want to suspend him more because there’s a big backlog of registrations to work through and they need him to process them…
The latest corporate media attack on Barack....... ...and it is knocked back out of the park once again, with an honesty we see so rarely in politics. Watch the video from Terra Haute, Indiana:
I like to read the different comments that people post on the news sites like wndu.com, cnn.com, and foxnews.com. It is discouraging the things people will say about someone that do not even know and have not done research on. I think the media distorts the truth sometimes to their own political agenda. Whats more disturbing is the fact that many people buy into it. I feel like people this day in age lack the conscience to investigate on their own and will believe whatever the media throws at them. I chose Obama becuase he wants to rise above mediocrocy and embrace the people who he is working for. His record alone in Chicago shows his compassion and willingness to work for the people and not the big oil companies and lobbyists. I would love for him to come to Goshen and speak. I missed getting a ticket for his South Bend visit :(, but i will definitely keep pressing forward for him so we can get him in office.
