A group for citizens born between 1965 & 1990. The term Generation X came from Douglas Coupland's 1991 book by the same name. He describes the characters as "underemployed, overeducated, intensely private and unpredictable." The wars & economic policies we pay for (and will continue to pay for for the rest of our lives) are decided by the usual suspects - the religious right, the wealthy, & the seniors. Why? Because THEY VOTE (particularly in the primaries) but they vote...and our peers do not. At least not in the numbers we should be voting in...bout time for A VOTE FOR US.

Caribbean Day Parade Health Care Reform Mobilizing

Approximately 1 million people will attend the Caribbean Day Parade on Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn on Monday, September 7. Help us spread information about our broken health care system and the Obama plan for health care reform.

We will set up tables along the parade route with flyers listing online sources for issues such as comparative costs and results of health care spending (US vs. other countries), the economics of health care, how we will actually save a lot of money by investing in health care reform now, etc. We will also provide info on how to connect with other people who want to bring real change to our health care system and help people to get involved in pressuring Congress to pass a health care reform bill with a strong public option.

Confirming My Senators' Positions on Health Care Reform

Today I decided to go directly to the source by asking my senators where they stand on health care reform. Here's the email I sent to both of them...

Dear Senator:

As your constituent, I would like you to clarify your positions on the following:

1. Do you support a public healthcare option as part of reform?

2. Do you support a public healthcare option that is ready on day one?

3. Do you support a public healthcare option that is national, available everywhere, and accountable to our government?

4. Do you support a public healthcare option that has the clout to establish rates with providers and big drug companies?

Please reply ASAP as your responses are important to me. Frankly, I need senators in Washington, DC, who reflect my interest in President Obama's health insurance reform effort INCLUDING a real public option. I will anxiously watch my email inbox for your response and will tailor my future voting behavior accordingly.

It looks to me that you are KNUCKLING under to the INSURANCE lobby. Private Insurance should be eliminated altogether! A position I recently heard on a Bill Moyers broadcast from two doctors.

Insurance companies are in business to make money!

There should be NO profit in healthcare. We need a Western European Socialized (or single payer) program!

You promised healthcare. Now deliver!!!

Food for Thought.

Getting back on track...

Today on a day when much media time was devoted to the arrest of bernie madoff there were some other things going on in this nation and world. bernie i hope you sleep well tonight.

I have a list of things i think we should be paying attention to if not looking at as concerned American citizens.

1) Supreme Court Vacancies

There will be four Supreme Court vacancies that will need to be filled by President Obama. This is a Supreme Court that has been stacked to the "right" for almost a decade. Amongst them are Justices that approved or allowed tactics such as the wiretapping of American citizens, rendition, torture, the deregulation of the American finance and investment industries and then some.
It's time to at least even the balance if not tip the scales on these appointments which is why i think we need to pay attention to them and draw attention to the states where this will be occurring. I will pick on the courts because of bush's prior appointments of very conservative judges who have thusfar in the least "tolerated" the criminal behavior of the administration that appointed them. Even so this is going to be a fight.

2) The Spending Bill

Many Senators and members of Congress voted against President Obama's stimulus bill despite the fact they added "pork" to it before voting against the bill.

It's like betting on 2 horses in a 2 horse race. How sweet for them.

Out of the 410 bil. spending bill the pork is valued at about 7-8 bil.

3) Who leads the RNC?

Michael Steele has made claim to be head of the RNC even after suffering "foot in mouth" disease for a spell. And he claimed it after kissing limbaughs' nasty butt in contrition.

But Rush hasn't actually denied he's the big boss either.

This was a very informative story on healthcare as it currently exists. There are many like it. My wife and i both work in healthcare and have seen the changes over the years. Few of them have been good. I have not looked at any healthcare proposal in detail but as a member of other groups i notice that it is becoming a greater concern.

Of "Tent cities", "pork" and other topics.

1)   " tent cities' have been popping up in increasing number across the United States. These were people who until recently held jobs and lived in homes. Now they live in parking lots, parks, public lots. They sleep in their cars or in tents if they have that much. It sounds almost fake when i say to myself "this shouldn't" happen here. And yet it's happening.

And bernie madoff sleeps at his penthouse.

2) What is "pork"?

Wikipedia defines it as: "spending that is intended to benefit constituents of a politician in return for their political support, either in the form of campaign contributions or votes"

in other words "pork" is what gets people in office and keeps them there. i mean think about it...why do you vote for a politician?

   a) they have nice hair
   b) they have nice teeth
   c) you would date them if you had the chance
or
   d) they will do something for you or your community.

Apparently in this spending bill of which approximately 2% is "pork" the pork additives were 60% democratic and 40% republican.

Ok i can live with all of that right now so the politicians...all of them need to get their asses in gear and stop playing this little hypocrisy game over the spending bill.

When the house is on fire you don't argue about how to put it out!
You work together and put it out! This is what we "pay" them for!

Yes there are 7.7 billion in earmarks in a trillion+ dollar budget. But alot of those earmarks create jobs. They may not be your average "run of the mill" jobs but they are jobs. And right now we need some more of those.

3) Tim Geithner needs a "message" and a staff.

Tim your head of the treasury. You can't do it all alone man!
Get a staff already! And then work on a message that inspires some confidence in the friggin' stock market.

Wall Street right now is like having an insecure/fickle boyfriend/girlfriend. Even the thought that we don't "like" them will drive them into a...dare i say it? Depression.

Tell Wall Street that they are very pretty and that no one in their right mind would have reason to find them unattractive. And say it like you mean it.

Look out....Here they come....

Today President Obama revealed his administrations plan for the national budget. The Forbes site has a story with a very user friendly breakdown on how the budget will affect us based on agency. I carefully went over it once and it not only seemed reasonable but at the same time "revolutionary" (good ideas for some reason are referred to as "revolutionary" when in fact they are simply good ideas) then i had a beer and went over the budget once again. And i have to say it made even more sense.

You can check out that link here: By the way...President Obama included the projected price of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as projected to 2010 in the budget. The Bush administration never came close to even thinking of revealing that information. It's like the 2 wars fell into the category "miscellaneous" expenditures that somehow we didn't have to worry about paying.

Umm...ya...ok.

For some un-friggin' believable reason the republi-con party continues to try to equate the idea of "fairness" as a form of socialism. And this because "the rich" will have to pay their fair share of taxes and yes....luxury taxes. After all...how can it be that we, citizens of the greatest democracy to ever exist on this planet earth, now in the midst of the greatest economic crisis finding millions losing their homes and jobs with many of the "working poor" on public assistance while a "fortunate" few involved in our demise can own 5+ houses, 10+cars, an airplane and a couple of yachts etc... etc...etc...and get tax breaks all at the same time to save "them" money so that they can in turn make the "economy better"..???

It's not mine. And yet if you watch conservative media they try very hard to tell you that the same old plan will work. They may make reference to two popular republicans; Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan (the former is and was my personal hero, the latter i considered great on foreign policy but an @sshole in regards to domestic issues and yet "the latter" is the only one referred to by the republi-bot party.)

For Gods' sake you'd think republi-scums were ashamed by Lincolns abolition of slavery. (maybe they were..) In either case neither one of them had access to the internet so they at least had an excuse. But that story doesn't work so well anymore. the republican party not only has to be a partner in a solution to this nations' problems; they have to reflect the nations demographic. A demographic that is ...how shall i say....shittily represented? ("shittily" isn't a word i know...but it is now.)

After all...we aren't all white conservative christian southerners. And despite that fact we can be patriotic Americans. (oooh...did i let that slip out..??)

One last thought for tonight (before my wife kicks me again...)

"Punditry" is not journalism. It's propaganda.

Punditry is an industry.

Whether it be from the "left" side of Matthews and Olberman or from the "right" side of "limbaugh and coulter" their function is not one of journalism. It is one of propagandism. It's about ratings and income and advertising and fame. It is not journalism. We now have the ability to look things up ourselves and i suggest we do it every chance we get because the only truth is the truth you discover.

Change comes from the bottom up, not from the top down.

That said...i can see something in the distance.....something raucous and chaotic. Something non-sensical.

I can see it clearer now.....it's the republican response to the budget.

The Aerobics of Obama (and a couple of other things...)

Have you ever seen Congress get up off their asses as much as they did during President Obama's address??
They had to stand up so many times during his speech that i'm sure many of them will be sore tomorrow. But they could use the exercise. And Congress did that more tonight than many of them do in a full term of public service.

Picture this:

The world economy is on a downturn, people losing their jobs and homes, the quality of life is going down faster than a hooker at a RNC convention (sorry... but not sorry at the same time)

and yet...

My wife and i are cheering a presidential address. (When was the last time you can say that happened...without lying.)

Cheers and hi-5's all around as President Obama breaks down his plan, inspires us, rallies us, challenges us and is confident that we will not only pull through this crisis; but end up better of because of it not despite it.

ok...last thing.

Watched Gov. Bobby Jindal do the republican "re-butt-al".

Just some personal opinions:

1) No one who walks out of his office the way he did tonight will be my president. (he looked like he needed to pee.)

2) He used the phrase "Americans can do anything" about 15 times. Unfortunately because of the dumbasses who thought they could "do anything" we are now in a situation where we need Americans that can "do something". And guess who those are..??

3) He rejects the stimulus package. Rejects the stimulus..?? New Orleans..?? Katrina..?? Levees...??? He says because he's worried about the "strings attached" to the stimulus that could leave his state in debt.

In debt?

Louisiana 'been in debt. And now he wants to reject a stimulus that quite possibly might prevent New Orleans from becoming...let's say....Atlantis.

Well bobby needs to lay off the crawfish and maybe avoid Bourbon street as either one or both are affecting his judgement. I'm sure his advisers aren't helping as republican advisers are as about "in touch" with the average American as i'm "in touch" with Angelina Jolie.

Just my 2 cents....

Your "political" cartoon in todays paper was disgusting.

First of all i find no humor in any depiction of an American president being shot dead. I don't care how talented the artist. Sean Delonas (the artist) may not be a racist but this particular cartoon was a depiction of racism. So the NY Post decided to depict our president as a monkey being shot down by two white police officers because of his stimulus bill.

And you thought it was funny.

So how did this happen?

Delonas drew it during a very inspired racist moment when he thought of how he lost his wife to a black man let's say, then he submitted it to someone at your paper (rag), it was reviewed by some departmental staff (jerkoffs), and then submitted to some editors (assholes) who decided it was a good idea to print this obscenity.

Anyone responsible for giving this offensive garbage a "thumbs up" should have their asses canned.

Well here is whats going to happen on my part.

1) I will never buy your (toilet) paper again.

2) I will strongly and i mean strongly encourage others to do the same. I will be very pro-active in this.

3) I will chastise those i know who read your paper (trash) to the point that they will not read it in my presence.

and last but not least:

Post Election Thoughts, Inauguration, Military and Veterans Outreach

My concerns are that the military families and veterans that have worked so hard, may not be able to participate in the inauguration that they made possible! It upsets me that I have NOT heard back from Brian Bilbray, Senator Feinstein or any other representatives that I have contacted regarding tickets. We have made various request for volunteer opportunities, discounted and free tickets to balls and events, and we are still in a wait and see pattern. It is very costly and bureaucratic, and I fear that the group may not be able to attended this most historic event, that again they made possible. As we wait for information, housing and airfare become more difficult and out of reach. But, I am hopeful that we will find sponsors to sponsor our local military families and veterans to the inauguration. We currently are in need of air miles and lodging sponsors. We currently have a proposal into the Earl Stafford Foundation for inaugural travel assistance for our 32 member OC (Orange County) and San Diego Military and Veterans for Obama, a local group of Blue Star Military Families and Veterans for Obama. Which I serve as lead organizer for, and founded this summer.
We are extremely excited about attending the Obama Inaugural after traveling to 37 states and Puerto Rico, hosting over 180 events and raising over $25,000 collectedly for the campaign and for philanthropic organizations. The group finished the campaign in Florida, where we worked with Obama organizers deliver all 27 electoral college votes for Obama!
I am also very upset that local party organizers are not making inaugural parties affordable to students, seniors, the disabled or military families and veterans! It is very sad to see that even theSan Diego County Democratic Inaugural Party is out of reach for most at $85/$100 per ticket! This is NOT the Obama way! We are a movement of inclusion, not exclusion based on socioeconomic status. I personally have helped get plane tickets and organized travel for over 850 students, veterans, military family members, unemployed folks and those who could not afford to be a part of this movement, but wanted to volunteer. It is the roll of us as organizers to be mindful of the current economic conditions and plan events accordingly. We have to work on getting underwriters and sponsors for underrepresented groups.

As a 33 year old recent graduate school graduate, I understand all to well about the struggles of trying to find a job in this economy and trying to make ends meat. And this campaign trail, has given me much to be thankful for and to work toward. As a young black woman, I often was brought to tears thinking of my mother (who died of pancreatic cancer in 2005) would be saying or the shear enjoy of my grandparents to see this day come to come to pass, when not color but charisma, brilliance, political savvy and philanthropy motivated the Nation to elect the 44th President of the United States of America! And I feel that same way in being elected delegate in my congressional district where blacks make up only about 2% of the population! That is was I felt an obligation to fundraise and take San Diego's Finest with me!
My proudest moment in this campaign was being elected the National Delegate from the 50th Congressional District to the Democratic National Convention and taking a Military Families and Veterans Delegation of 26 with me! The best event of the whole week was working with the group to packing boxes for our troops at Camp Pendleton with Michelle Obama, her daughters, her mother and her brothers! I cried when we (Benjamin Bates, my fiance, managed the Delegation while I was on the floor of the Convention) were able to get all the families and their extended families into the Invesco Field for the ending ceremonies! This is what the Obama campaign and movement is all about philanthropy and service.
The group is focusing our attention on on the California Democratic Party's Assembly District Delegates races, where we are running our Blue Stars and Veterans in the their AD's to represent military families and veterans issues on the state level. We are working to establish military family members and veterans as a strong lobby with the CDP thru the Veterans Caucus and appointments to various committees with in the CDP. Our group has now found a home in the La Jolla Democratic Club. We are very excited to be joining forces with such an active and well established Democratic Club. The new president, Dr. Michael McQuarry has been a great advocate of our work and is helping us develop Democratic Military and Veterans outreach and assist us with our philanthropic work. Here in San Diego we are working with philanthropic organizations by volunteering, hosting events or raising money.
I am very interested in changing Democrats and Progressives feelings and views on the military and veterans. I believe we have much to do on the local level to constituency build among military families and veterans. San Diego County is a military county, and we must work with them, advocate for them and provide them a seat at the policy table. I see this is my new role in the movement. The military families and veterans are our pride and enjoy, and are what makes San Diego "America's Finest City." But thru out the nation it is NOT only our duty to work to end the war, but to support the military families and veterans that were innocently caught up in this conflict also!!! For to long Democrats have been sleeping at the wheel on outreaching to military families, troops and veterans. They overwhelming supported Obama this is our opportunity. My Strength

I am alone. I just want to know what it is that I can’t seem to get right. I cannot make a relationship work. Love, to me, is stepping out from the bushes into the most beautiful view you have ever seen, only to find out you have stepped off the edge of a cliff and are now plunging to your imminent demise.

I live, I love, yet I am alone. I seek, I find, yet I am alone. I struggle on without shame or pity; the world’s problems are far bigger than anything I could burden them with, yet I am alone.

I do not choose to be alone. I flirt, and engage. Yet I rarely get a response. Then, once in a while, I do get a response. And it fills my soul with a passion not rivaled by Mars. I push it further; perhaps I don’t push it far enough. But I expect a self-respecting woman to put in her fair share of the work.

Something happens every time that I cannot explain. I recognize it, yet I can’t make out it what it is. I try to stop it, yet I know it can’t be stopped. The Great Cosmic Reality offers no protection against this rampaging demon.

What is this love they tell me about? What is this fairy tale that is the true leading cause of divorce? How do I combat its evil, destructive power? What can I do to make them realize the power of true, lasting love? Monogamy is a fraud to all but the hopeless.

I still believe in the noble qualities; honesty, fairness, willingness to confront and overcome one’s demons, trust, empowerment, sacrifice, generosity. But they don’t seem to impress anyone.

Do I expect too much? I don’t expect anything. I hope for the best. But, after a fortnight or two, she always comes to realize she doesn’t want to be with me. Why? What have I done to be burdened by this curse?

I am alone and for strength I give my love to the world.

For six months, I have done many new things - I've attended and hosted grassroots campaign organizing parties for Barack Obama. I've walked the streets of Newark, NJ registering new and relocated voters. I've worked a registration drive in East Orange with my mother and new friends. I've made hundreds of phone calls to citizens in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Nevada, and have had some fascinating conversations. I've knocked on doors, brought absentee ballots to nursing homes and to my brother-in-law, Lee, who is recovering from a stroke.

Can we say Goodbye to the "Bradley Effect"????

As much as I love listening to NPR, I'm tired of hearing folks refer to a "Bradley Effect". While I know there are prejudiced people in this country, I thought that Barack's success in primaries and caucuses in places like Iowa, Vermont, Montana, etc. would have put this theory to rest. I thought that voters across the country already demonstrated that a candidate's voice, vision and values matter more than one's skin color or ancestry.
