Friend --After months of negotiations, the entire House and Senate will soon start debating the final plans for health insurance reform. You've called your representatives, but we can't stop there -- if the American people are going to drown out the D.C. lobbyists, we need everyone who supports reform to weigh in. So here's the plan:On Tuesday, October 20th, OFA volunteers will gather at "Time to Deliver" Call Parties in living rooms like yours across the country. We'll call friendly voters whose voices matter in this debate, talk to them about the President's plan, and ask them to call on their representatives to support reform. Our goal? 100,000 calls to Congress placed or committed to in a single day. It's an ambitious goal, but the stakes couldn't be higher -- and if we hit it, we cannot be ignored. The whole plan begins by finding a place for OFA volunteers to gather -- in Aurora and across the country. And that's why I'm turning to you.Can you host a Time to Deliver Call Party on Tuesday, October 20th?Hosting a call party is surprisingly easy. No special experience required, and we'll provide simple step-by-step instructions. If you can print out some call sheets and info about the President's plan -- and make sure volunteers have a comfortable place to sit -- you can host a successful Call Party. You can invite your friends, we'll invite other OFA supporters in your area, and together you'll have a great time while making a huge difference. If we can get 100,000 calls to Congress placed or committed to on a single day it will set a new OFA record -- and really shake up the debate in Washington. But it won't be easy. Everything hinges on finding volunteer leaders like you who are willing to open your doors and give supporters in your area a place to gather. Can we count on you? Please sign up to host a Time to Deliver Call Party on October 20th:http://my.barackobama.com/deliverThanks for making it happen,JeremyJeremy BirdDeputy DirectorOrganizing for AmericaPaid for by Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Committee -- 430 South Capitol Street SE, Washington, D.C. 20003. My New Article! Check it out! NASCAR drivers support President Obama's address to schools: http://digg.com/d3138VH?
Some of the most popular NASCAR drivers have made a PSA (public service announcement), in support of President Obama’s message to America’s school children. They are encouraging children to have the drive to win, the drive to stay in school, and for parents to help our children succeed in their educational goals. It’s an amazing message that should be applauded and supported by all parents of school aged children and citizens of our country.
It is unbelievable that people are making a stink out of the upcoming Presidential address to our public schools. As stated by ED.gov, “During this special address, the President will speak directly to the nation’s children and youth about persisting and succeeding in school. The president will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning.” And yet, there are people who are questioning the President’s motives and calling his address “a very troubling turn of events, giving rise to the very legitimate fears of political and social indoctrination.”
The Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, has sent a letter to schools with suggested “classroom activities” so that students can begin preparing for the President’s address. Some of these activities include things like making posters setting out “community and country” goals, and encourages kids to read books about past presidents and President Obama. Can someone please explain to me how these are BAD things?
Not only have our children been addressed by past presidents, they were addressed by two Republican presidents, and one with a political message. President George W. Bush did so in 1991, and President Ronald Reagan was the one who talked politics with students in 1988. But, some people are still saying this is unprecedented and an unacceptable thing for a President to do.
It is absolutely shocking to me that people are turning a positive “stay in school, study hard, and learn everything you can” message, into a partisan fight about possible indoctrination. All I can say is that if the indoctrinated message to my children is “stay in school, study hard, and learn everything you can about your government, your country and our history,” I’m all for promoting that indoctrination.
Let’s get serious people. Our President, like all presidents in the past, is simply trying to inspire our children to learn as much as they can and do their best in school. He is trying to show them that they too, can rise up from any situation and possibly become President of the United States of America. There is no way you can convince me that’s a bad message for our children to hear.
Please, my Republican friends out there, and there are MANY, join me in support of OUR President’s message to our children. Let’s not turn our partisan fighting over healthcare and other social and economic issues into something that could damage our children. Let’s work together to make our children smarter, want to do better, and be the best people, and citizens, they can be.
Friend --You've probably seen the headlines: Opponents of change are doing everything they can to delay health insurance reform. As a Republican strategy memo concluded, "If we slow this sausage-making process down, we can defeat it."They're betting that as time goes by, our energy will flag, our movement will weaken, and they'll ultimately be able to block any change. But they just don't get it -- thanks to the regular Americans who are reaching out in neighborhoods nationwide, our movement is expanding every day. In fact, over the weekend, we surpassed our big goal of one million people taking action for health insurance reform. And with your help, we'll keep growing and prove that our opponents' strategy of "delay, delay, delay" simply won't work.So I want to ask you for something unusual: Can you chip in $1 each day until we pass real health insurance reform? A huge response will show the insurance companies and their allies in Congress that their delay tactics will only make our movement stronger. Here's how it works: We'll bill your credit card for 30 days' worth of donations now and once a month until the President signs real health insurance reform into law.The cost of inaction on health insurance reform is astounding. Every day, 14,000 more Americans lose their coverage. Premiums continue to rise at three times the rate of wages. And each day, more small businesses are forced to choose between covering their employees and keeping their doors open. But that doesn't stop our opponents from trying to bog down the process with legislative tricks. And at the same time, they're attacking the President for "moving too fast," even though Washington has been talking about the need for comprehensive health insurance reform since the days of Harry Truman! What they don't realize is that outside of Washington, our campaign keeps growing. We've reached our "million" milestone, but the stories behind that number are even more impressive: grassroots press conferences with small business owners in Missouri, more than 1,200 people at an organizing meeting in Minnesota, huge events outside local Senate offices in Florida, and so much more. That's why our dollar-a-day campaign is so important: If the few senators and representatives who are opposing reform understand that dragging their heels makes us stronger every day -- and that the grassroots pressure on them will increase -- they'll be far less willing to keep slowing down the process. Can you help? Please donate $1 per day until we pass real health insurance reform:https://donate.barackobama.com/dollarThank you,MitchMitch StewartDirectorOrganizing for AmericaPaid for by Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Committee -- 430 South Capitol Street SE, Washington, D.C. 20003. Friend --With Congress debating their plans for health care reform this week, building strong local support couldn't be more urgent. That's why, last weekend, Organizing for America volunteers went door-to-door asking neighbors to support the President's agenda for health care reform and to urge Congress to do the same.Next week, we're doing it again, and this time it has to be even bigger. Everything depends on finding folks like you willing to step up and host a door-to-door canvass event in your area.Hosting is surprisingly easy, and there's no experience required. Once you sign up, a friendly local organizer will be in touch to set you up with all the guidance and materials you need. Will you sign up to host a Health Care Canvass the weekend of July 18th or the following week?To host a successful canvass, all you need to do is find a location to start from (could be your home, could be a park, could be a community center), reach out to ask friends and neighbors to join you, and then hand out maps and fliers to volunteers to get them started. It's that simple. And don't worry, our local team will get you everything you need and walk you through it every step of the way.Every day, Congress is feeling tremendous pressure from Washington, D.C., special interests to back away from reform. But our representatives have their ears to the ground, and if we can show them that, neighborhood-by-neighborhood, block-by-block, we're building a movement to fight for health care reform, they'll find the political courage they need to stand up for what's right. So can we count on your help?http://my.barackobama.com/hceventhostThanks for making it possible,JeremyJeremy BirdDeputy DirectorOrganizing for AmericaPaid for by Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Committee -- 430 South Capitol Street SE, Washington, D.C. 20003. http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/07102009/watch2.htmlWendell Potter, who until recently was a Vice President at Cigna, appeared on Bill Moyers Journal this past Friday and gave an insider's view of the insurance industry's greed, callousness and cynical manipulation of our corrupt political system. This isn't just a clip of a couple of minutes--it's about 31 minutes--but IMO every minute of it is worth watching. No wonder we've never been able to reform health care in the U.S. Let's make this try the one that succeeds!Dale

Obama's war? Really! Well maybe in the sense that he is now the President & Comander in Chief and is charged with "the buck stops here." But when we start to look at this wreck from all four corners of the intersection we will find some intersting perspectives and facts that cannot be seen from opposing views/corners. Some of which we rather not see, know or accept. In fact, some add up to a dirty little term known as "blowback." Just hurry and write the ticket officer, please!
What the President and his teams are doing with the wars and foreign policy is steering in a direction that will get "US" back on some sense of terra firma. It is what he clearly campaigned on and what we, The UNITED States of America, collectively as a democracy accept through his election.
Some wish that by calling this "Obama's Vietnam" or Obama's war that it will divert attention and erase the previous admin's & congresses history of their handling of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. IT DOES NOT and NOR will it next time. Clicking ones heels wishing it to go away does not work in the real world. As the crude but true saying goes, "wish in one hand & sh*+ in the other, which one do you think will fill up faster?" remains the case for the history/the facts.
When I think about what we, America not just Obama are faced with concerning Afghanistan, I have to look at the history of our involvement and it's legacy. I personally think that the movie "Charlie Wilson's War" is a good depiction of what happened and today's current state of affairs in Afghanistan is clearly a large part of the blowback from it. While the current admin is taking credit good bad or indifferent for the latest round of buck stopping decisions, I recognize that these decisions are crafted to combat the winds and debris of actions and inactions of previous US foreign policy decisions whether out rite, coordinated or clandestine. Decisions that go well into decades of administrations and Congresses.
So let's be clear, WE OWN IT! We the People, not the President. Need I remind you that he, his administration and everyone in Congress reports to & works for YOU & I. So while the "Buck Stops with The President," the President & the Congress stops with "WE The People." And in order for us to heal & grow strong as a nation we must first own what we do. So we own it America!
The United States of America has ownership and responsibility to the wars in Iraq & Afgahnistan. Damn that hurts when I write it this way. We can argue the finer points of whether we asked for them, and to be quit frank, the answers change back and forth with the magnification and the pursuit of root cause. Like every coin has two sides, until you magnify, it is then when you will see sides, angles and corners that you did not consider at a wider more comfortable view!
And until we as a nation join not as Independents, Democrats and Republicans, but as ACTIVE AMERICAN VOTERS and take a hard clear eyed look at certain aspects of our dysfunctional foreign policy history, understand & accept what the results and ramifications/blow-back has been, then we will constantly block the potential for more sustainable problem solving as opposed to the murky problem pushing that we have engaged in.
But, we must also remember that we are a GREAT NATION and a great people that is great through it's diversity, acceptance and love of freedom. THE NATION that has very much lead the world to greater peace & prosperity. We must learn to discern. Separate the functional from the dysfunctional. It is when "We the People" lower our heads and our uprightness that the two mingle and cloud the waters of foreign policy.
So to say this is Obama's war or Bush's war, Kennedy's Bay of pig's, Nixon's Vietnam, etc.. might be comforting to those on the left or right, it is nothing more than divergence, distraction and a false pealing away of YOUR & MY responsibility as the collective OWNERS of our nations Destiny. It is our responsibility and opportunity to stay abreast, ask the questions, get the facts and vote accordingly.
In America, today more than ever WE are empowered with the tools to mandate our government in the direction that we choose. It only happens when YOU & I, the owner's start acting like we own the greatest most coveted "company" on the face of the earth, The United States of America.
