So when are we going to march inside Markey's office like the republicans did on the 29th?? I watched them just go in and start demanding answers and two staffers had to come down and listen to them.

They keep getting all of the attention and so now that Betsey Markey is back shouldn't we somehow let her know that we want healthcare reform? They keep doing their stupid tea parties and so I just think we should do something to.

Hopefully I have posted this right and I am new to these blogs!

We have compiled information to make people aware of National Health Care Reform. All the people you met today endorse 3 Main Principles when it comes to Health Care Reform. We need a public Health care option that:

1)Reduces Costs - Cost must be brought under control!

2)Guarantees Choice - Keep whatever doctor and healthcare plan we have or Choose a new doctor or Healthcare Plan.

3)Ensures Affordable Care for all - Everyone must have Access to quality and affordable health care.

Blood, food drives planned for National Day of Service

Four Fort Collins branches of President Barack Obama's Organizing for America movement will participate in a National Day of Service on Friday and Saturday at various locations throughout the city.

The events will be organized and staffed by volunteers with Organizing for America.

Three blood drives are scheduled for June and July to raise awareness for the health reform issue. The blood drives are organized by Vern Richardson, a Fort Collins resident with Organizing for America.

"We're trying to get as many people as possible to donate," Richardson said. Richardson, a supporter of single-payer health care, believes the blood drives will help to raise awareness about the health-care problem because they help to reinforce the idea that health problems can arise at any time without warning.

One of the four Fort Collins branches will hold a food drive as part of the Day of Service. The barrels for food collection are available through Saturday, and food can be left at any one of the six drop-off locations. All donations will be given to the Food Bank for Larimer County. Any kind of nonperishable food is needed, but the food bank is especially in need of canned meals, peanut butter and cereal, said Holly Young, food drive coordinator.

Young, who organized the event with her husband, Mike Salasek, was involved with Obama's election as well as supporting his proposals for health-care reform.

"Anything he asks us to do, we're going to do it," Young said, referring to Obama.

Tables will be set up at different locations to hand out and assist with applications for low-cost health insurance offered through the state for the uninsured, but they are not authorized to accept the applications. Information on where to take completed applications also will be available.

In addition to literature about the programs, parents can bring their children to the tables for what organizer Larry Watson called "developmental health screenings."

The screenings are meant to attempt to catch developmental conditions while they are less severe.

Larimer County honored Public Health 'Hero'

I had to repost the story below. In my mind Health Care takes many forms. I don't want us to be machines working towards only Obama's idea of Health Care. When this is all done we (the people) will still need to help each other live healthier and happier. This is one way someone in Larimer county has done that...

The Larimer County Board of Health has named Lupe Harbison, health care program coordinator for the Women's Resource Center in Fort Collins, as the recipient of this year's Joseph Jabaily Public Health Hero Award.

Harbison has worked nine years at the resource center. Her work includes helping low-income resi-dents to receive breast- and reproductive-health services, such as mammograms.

She also provides outreach to the Latino community for various health programs, according to the board of health.

The annual "hero" award is given in memory of Dr. Joseph Jabaily, a Loveland neurologist and public-health advocate who died in a charity bicycle race in 2004.

The award will be presented Thursday at the health board's meeting at 7 pm, at the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment, 1525 Blue Spruce Drive, in Fort Collins.

Description of Catalpa Group activity June 27th

Here’s the scoop on the plan to distribute information about CHP+ and CICP on June 27th…

1. Brochures/with applications for CHP+ for children and pregnant women, posters and even some children’s giveaway items will be arriving sometime in the next week to ten days.

2. We can’t take applications because documents must be provided and verified by certain agencies, but we can help people fill them out if they want us to and we can provide information on what they need and where they can take it to complete the application.

3. We got information on CICP, but, again, we can’t take applications – only help people understand where they can apply and under what circumstances and places it’s effective.

4. We hope to have shirts that will help identify the group.

Grassroots Amateur

I won't make this long.

I have really wanted to help Obama get things done this term. I didn't know how to help or where to start. I am so happy that Obama and his people have kept this site running and I hope to do many more events with the aid of this Organizing website. I think it is great to have a President that (as I expected) wants to find answers with the help of the American people.

I am a very busy single parent. I don't have the time to follow everything that is happening in America. I have enough time to chime in on the things that really hit home. This is one of those things that really hits home and sets a foundation for America moving forward. I don't know where the health care debate will leave us, but the current system is failing. It will be nice to sit down with people I will see in my community and hear what they have to say about health care. All answers are found somewhere between what I want and what they want.
