I just finished watching the 2 videos and thought the information provided was too sparse. It sounded to me like they were both just pushing for our support without giving enough back. I understand that we need this package through quickly but I also hear all the negative comments about why it's being pushed so fast. Are there too many things attached to it that will negatively impact us?
Why didn't they spend more time and answer more of our 30 thousand questions? I know they coundn't get to them all but they only answered a few. Being a military family, I come with a lot of questions. Especially about spending and why our troops have to buy a lot of their own equipment. Also why aren't there better benefits and access to facilities for family members?
It's really cool to see that this website is on going and continuing to be a place for connecting the people to activities and events... continuing support for the vision of change as proposed by President-elect Barack Obama.
Sunday, December 14th- I attended a community house meeting whereby we discussed issues that concern us, and planning of things we can do within our community to make a difference for the better. We came up with some things that we can take action on immediately, such as helping out at a shelter/safe house for battered women and children. We'll be participating in expanding the facility so that a few more families can get off the waiting list and into a safe environment.
Some of the members of the group are acquaintances of senators and other congressional reps. These group members have now written to these acquaintances regarding such issues as

Both John McCain and Barack Obama claimed victory in Friday's debate and are running ads touting their respective triumphs. Polling data suggests otherwise. A CBS poll using random sampling showed 39% saw Obama as the winner and 24% see McCain as the winner. An Inside Advantage poll reported a virtual tie, with 42% saying Obama won and 41% saying McCain won. An Opinion Research poll done for CNN gave Obama the win, 51% to 38%, with men splitting evenly and women going for Obama 2 to 1. However, the sample had a slight Democratic bias.
A poll on CNN's Website with 80,500 respondents gave Obama the victory 67% to 28%. An NBC survey, which drew 291,000 responses gave the victory to Obama 51% to 35%. Democracy Corps ran a 45-person focus group in St. Louis. The group was heavily tilted towards the Republicans, with 33% identifying as Republicans, 27% identifying as Democrats, and the rest independents. The group as a whole voted for Bush over Kerry by a 2-to-1 margin in 2004. Nevertheless, by a 38% to 27% margin, they felt that Obama won the debate.
All in all, Obama did what he had to do. He convinced a majority of the voters that he can handle foreign affairs at least as well as McCain, maybe better. All he really needed was a tie, because virtually every poll has shown that large majorities support Obama on domestic issues.
If you prefer spin to facts, that is also available. Both sides have it in oversupply. Obama: McCain is out of touch. McCain: Obama is not ready to be commander-in-chief.
The next debate is on Oct. 2 at Washington University in St. Louis between Vice-Presidential candidates Joe Biden and Sarah Palin.
Is the Wall Street economic bail out going to be the equivalent of Obama 'supporting' the Iraq War? Up to now, Obama has taken pride that his judgement is correct on important issues. He opposed the Iraq war when others were marching in lock step with the Bush administration. Now, Senator Barack Obama is doing exactly what he says he doesn't do, he is running with the herd in Washington, D.C. to enact legislation which is likely to become the largest fleeching of American taxpayers ever conceived.
It is not too late to take a bold stand an oppose the Wall Steet bail out. Let's all urge Senator Obama to come to his senses and oppose this 'Titanic' piece of legislation. Let's let Wall Street barons sink in thier own mire. Let's let those overpaid CEO's face accountability for their unethical and unprofessional if not fraudulent behavior. Remember Enron? Well, this is Enron on steroids.
Please join me in urging Senator Obama to oppose this terrible bail out legislation.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Former Rhode Island Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee has called vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin a "cocky wacko" and said her selection as John McCain's running mate has energized supporters of Democrat Barack Obama.
Chafee left the Republican Party last year after losing his bid for re-election and now supports Obama. He told an audience Tuesday at the New America Foundation in Washington that the Alaska governor has revived a "lackluster McCain candidacy."
"They've just thrown this firestorm, this tornado, into the whole presidential election," Chafee said in response to an audience member's question about whether the Obama campaign should worry about Palin's presence in the race.
He said her speech at the Republican National Convention had the unintended effect of energizing Democrats and Obama supporters.
"People were coming into my office, phone calls were flooding in, e-mails were coming in, 'I just sent money to Obama, I couldn't sleep last night' — from the left. To see this cocky wacko up there," Chafee said to laughter.
Chafee said in an interview Thursday that he found much of Palin's convention speech objectionable, particularly her "mocking" assertion that Obama was overly concerned with al-Qaida terrorists getting read their rights.
That comment "got to the core of everything wrong with the last eight years," he said.
"I consider that wacky, and certainly her tone was very, very cocky," said Chafee, a visiting fellow at Brown University's Watson Institute for International Studies. "So I thought they were appropriate words."

PITTSBURGH — Democrats adopted a party platform Saturday that attempted to appease Hillary Rodham Clinton supporters through strong language against sexism and a nod to her health care plan.
But the 51-page document, which sets out the party's basic stance on issues, reflects the priorities of Barack Obama, the presumptive nominee. From his call to draw down American forces in Iraq over 16 months to an energy plan that emphasizes less oil and more renewable energy sources, the platform calls for a major change in direction for the government.
Other highlights of the platform included a call to repeal the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, support for tying the minimum wage to inflation and new language addressing the use of federal lands.
"It (the platform) is really something Sen. Obama can run on and the rest of us can run on," said Peter Groff, president of the Colorado Senate and one of those on the 186-member platform committee that approved the document. The platform will be voted on in two weeks at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Lou Leonard did a great job in organizing the Pendleton event for Obama. Thank you Lou.
Wow !! We just got back from seeing Barack at the Town Hall in Pendleton, OR. It is amazing that he had any energy left for us after the huge rally in Portland, but he did not disappoint us!
Eastern Oregon and Washington are VERY red and very rural. As such, we have been written off by Democratic campaigns for decades. What a gift this was to us!!
Several of us were just back from our Congressional District caucus in Spokane on Saturday. What a weekend! Another delegate and I were even interviewed while we waited for the doors to open in Pendleton. We got our 5 seconds of fame on the nightly news broadcast for KNDU in Richland, Washington. :-)
Here are some pictures from the event:

Thanks so much for the hard work of all the Obama supporters in Northeast Oregon. We filled the Pendleton Convention Center with an enthusiastic audience. The Senator spoke eloquently for about half an hour and answered questions for another 45 minutes. He was able to address the concerns of the those who asked the questions and impressed the audience with the breadth of his knowledge and understanding. Only two more days to bring all the Obama votes into the county elections offices. Keep up the grreat work. The real work is not getting the candidate to be here, but to get all the votes for the candidate.

With the town hall with Sen. Obama tomorrow and the election in four days, these are truly exciting times for the Barack Obama campaign in Northeast Oregon. It was extraordinary to see the enthusiastic people lining up for hours for tickets to the town hall. While canvasing, the people we meet are overwhelming in support of Sen. Obama
We can't let the momentum wane in these last few days before this election. We need to canvass every home in which there are votes outstanding. We can only give the senator the support he deserves if EVERY Obama vote is delivered to the elections office and counted.
Also, the primary election is the easy part. We have to remember that the campaign doesn't end until Senator Obama is ELECTED in November. We will have to get out EVERY vote from after Round-Up until the last vote is counted on November 4.
Keep up the great work.
