I was watching a movie about RFK today and it made me think about how great it would have been if he had became president. Then I checked my email it was flooded with news on this campaign. I wasn't even born when Bobby ran, but I feel the passion that many felt back then. The thought of having a president that has raised the bar so high he is ridiculed for the slightest deficiency. If this was 2004 things would be entirely different. I wonder why the polls are so close, why people can’t wake up and smell the coffee. If we were running against the John McCain of 2000 I would still be an independent. I’m not one of those apocalyptic people; however I do thing this election will mean more for the future than possibly any other. We live in a world that is on the brink of destroying itself and we have a choice between hope, or imminent failure. I myself am almost smack dab in the center and lean slightly right or slightly left on many issues. In Obama I see a candidate that I may disagree with on issues, but I trust him to do what is right. The man has a gift most of us could only dream to possess. Reality is that we all have what he has we just need to let it out. In my short life I have faced many challenges on higher scales than most of my peers. I’ve been told by Republican family members that I too young to know what’s right. They don’t know what it’s like to hear about friends getting killed, or permently injured. They say the war is working. What war is ever working right? I’ve been told that I’m ungodly for siding with the democrats. If that’s true I don’t want a god who thinks the world is solely for the rich and powerful. They have a blind sense of patriotism, “trust the President.” As an American I will always criticize the President even if it’s Barack. We have the power to do great things. If the Egyptians could build the pyramids we can rebuild our infrastructure. If Cuba can have universal health insurance so can we. If we prevented the cold war becoming a hot one, we can avoid war with Iran. We can do good things, or be bystanders as we watch the world fall apart.
