It is so important to protest and I am so proud of the protestors for the current longtime hot topic of healthcare. The coverage in the media is so crucial. I saw protestors for both sides on Saturday in Huntington Beach by the pier at the corner of Main Street and PCH. Both sides with handmades posters. I wanted to honk in support yet there was so many cars and pedestrians that I didn't want to cause any confusion.
Today at Sunday mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, the priest spoke about Mother Theresa and how she spoke up for those who could not protest. He spoke of the importance of speaking up. Our protests are power tools which promote change. Continue to speak up for a better world as it will not happen by silence.
I would love to see more singing at these protests. We need more new songs of protest to etch in the minds and souls of more people.
Join your community, local dignitaries and religious leaders, as you add your voice to protest the ongoing slaughter taking place in Darfur, Sudan.

Together we can send a message from Orange County to Washington DC that we will not permit genocide on our watch. We will re-sanctify the words, “Never Again.” There is strength in numbers so bring your family and friends. Spend an hour doing something that can make a difference!

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has announced that it will award approximately a dozen Statewide Consumer Network Grants of up to $70,000 each, with total program funding estimated at $840,000 in FY2009.
The program is intended to "enhance statewide consumer run organizations to promote service system capacity and infrastructure development to be consumer-centered and targeted toward recovery and resiliency, and consumer-driven by promoting the use of consumers as agents of transformation," according to SAMHSA. The grants should be used to "address the needs of underserved and underrepresented consumers; of consumers with histories of trauma, veterans, or those who have been involved in the criminal-justice system; and/or to promote activities related to partnership development, coalition building, legacy planning, and economic empowerment as part of the recovery process for consumers," the grant announcement stressed.
Application deadline is May 21. Nonprofits, government entities, and other organizations dedicated to improving mental-health services statewide may apply. Groups must be governed by a board of directors with at least 50 percent consumers. Current recipients of Statewide Consumer Network Grants may not apply.

In 2008 California grassroots activists changed the nation! California Democrats from up and down the state volunteered their time, made phone calls, donated money, and knocked on doors in California and across the county as part of our largest grassroots effort ever.
The California Democratic Party's Assembly District Election Meetings will be held on January 10th & 11th, 2009. At these meetings, registered Democrats will elect 12 delegates from each Assembly District to be members of the California Democratic Party State Central Committee.
WILL YOU BE THE CHANGE CALIFORNIA NEEDS and run to be an Assembly District Delegate for the California Democratic Party?
Now is your opportunity to help direct the future of Democrats in California! Delegates approve the platform of the Party, elect Party officers and endorse candidates for congress, state legislature, and executive office.
If elected, you will automatically become a delegate to the California Democratic Party's State Convention, which will be held April 24-26, 2009 in Sacramento, as well as the Convention in 2010. If you are interested in running you must file with the State Party by 12:00 noon, Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Be a part of change and run for Assembly District Delegate.
We have got to keep our energy going! 2008 was a historic year, and if we keep it up, our energy will drive us to victories in 2010 and beyond!
The time for change is now and I hope that you can be a part of it!
