In times of need and crisis we can draw on a storehouse of knowledge laid down over many generations.
Our ancestors displayed both noble and ignoble behavior.
These traits are part of our history. In times of crisis these traits or qualities can come to the surface. Dormant wisdom was already noted in deep antiquity in stories, adventures, quests and myths.
Times of danger and crisis were times of heroes and heroines who emerged from obscurity in service to the greater need.
We are in such times today.
Just look around you and you can see ordinary people achieving extraordinary things.
These forces of hidden wisdom emerge when noble, virtuous, and selfless qualities of heart and soul are ignited by recognition of the desperate needs being faced by family, community, nation and our planet.
The over mental, linear and intellectual concentration can result in a loss of access to these hidden forces available to us.
To tap into this reservoir of wisdom and slowly become part of its rhythm requires clear thinking, a quiet calm mind and a heart that embraces the common good selflessly.
Tap into the heart of wisdom for real CHANGE.
President-Elect Obama Discusses an Inauguration for All Americans
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, with record crowds expected in the nation's capital for the 56th Presidential Inauguration, President-elect Barack Obama discussed his plans for open and accessible inaugural events designed to allow the participation of Americans across the country.
"Unprecedented numbers of Americans are planning to join us in Washington," said President-elect Obama. "That will mean long lines, a tough time getting around, and most of all, a lot of walking on what could be a very cold winter day. Fortunately, you don't have to brave the crowds and commotion in order to participate in this celebration, because we've made this Inauguration open and accessible to communities across our nation."
President-elect Obama also announced that anyone can text the word "open" to 56333 to receive official Inauguration news updates, transportation notices, and opportunities to participate, both in Washington and in communities across America.
The text of the address, as delivered, is below:
Remarks of President-Elect Barack ObamaWednesday, January 14, 2009Washington, D.C.
On Tuesday, with a simple oath that's marked the renewal of our nation's democracy for more than two centuries; I will take office as the forty-fourth President of the United States.
But this Inauguration isn't about me. It's about all of us. At this defining moment in our history, it serves as our opportunity to come together in common purpose, united in our resolve to renew the promise of this nation and meet the challenges of our time.
Now, you've probably heard the reports that unprecedented numbers of Americans are planning to join us in Washington. That will mean long lines, a tough time getting around, and most of all, a lot of walking on what could be a very cold winter day.
Fortunately, you don't have to brave the crowds and commotion in order to participate in this celebration - because we've made this Inauguration open and accessible to communities across our nation.
Just text the word "open" to 56333 for news, transportation updates, and ways you can participate.
We're kicking off inaugural week events on Sunday afternoon with a free celebration at the Lincoln Memorial that's open to the public. And to allow Americans across the country to join us, HBO will broadcast the event for free that evening.
Monday night, Michelle and Jill Biden are hosting a free Kids' Inaugural concert to honor the children of military families, which the Disney Channel will broadcast live on television and their radio network.
On the evening of the Inauguration, Michelle and I will attend the first-ever Neighborhood Inaugural Ball, and we want you to be right there with us - wherever your neighborhood is.
ABC will broadcast it on television, we'll webcast it on the Internet and post updates from the ballroom, and if you visit pic2009.org, you can even sign up to host your own neighborhood ball at home.
But that's just the beginning when it comes to ways you can get involved. I'm also asking for your active participation.
Next Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. And to honor the legacy of a man who lived his life as a servant to others, I will ask all Americans to make a renewed commitment to serving their communities and their country.
Dr. King once said, "Everybody can be great because anybody can serve." You don't have to wear a uniform. You don't have to be a community organizer. You don't even have to run for President. At a time when there is so much need, we are blessed with endless ways to contribute something to the life of this nation.
On Monday, my family and the Biden family will spend time volunteering in neighborhoods around Washington. I am asking you to join us in that same spirit of service to others - no matter where you live.
And we've unveiled a new tool to make it easy.
Just visit USAservice.org to find service projects in your community, or even organize your own around the causes you care about.
Log on and you'll see that thousands of events involving millions of Americans have already been set up across the country next Monday and beyond.
Because I'm not just asking you to take part in one day of service. I am asking you to make a lasting commitment to make better the lives of your fellow Americans - a commitment that must endure beyond one day, or even one presidency.
At this moment of great challenge and great change, I am asking you to play your part; to roll up your sleeves and join in the work of remaking this nation. And if you do, then I truly believe a new and better day is within our reach.
Thank you.

I went to the voters registration with Craig Robinson speaking. The Obama headquarters in Corvallis Oregon was packed. There was an interesting mix of people but I would say half were younger voters. You can see pictures of this event on my flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/laineyd/
Thursday at 5pm I'll be attending a party at the Obama headquarters in Corvallis Oregon. Craig Robinson will be there which is Michelle Obama's brother. He lives and works in Corvallis at Oregon State University as a coach. I'll be attending to not only show my support but also as a photographer to shoot the event. You'll be able to check the images out at www.laineydyer.com

I just posted this video on the DIGG site and really would appreciate you going there and digging it.
I took a swipe at McCain and how his VP pick was strictly a political move and how Barack vetted Joe and made "HIS OWN DECISION".
If we can get enough Diggs on it it will possibly be in the top 10 of the day and everyone will see it.
It would be super exposure for Barack as he commented on the stupid "lipstick on a pig" controversy and made some other great comments on several things. He showed both Humor and also made some great POLITICAL points!
Please take a minute, watch the video and PLEASE go to DIGG.com and digg it. The Republicans have been burrying some of our good stories on the DIGG site so PLEASE help!

TIME MAGAZINE:Angry AmateursPosted by Joe Klein | Comments (383) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0) | Email This The story of the day out here in Minneapolis is the McCain campaign's war against the press. This has been building for some time. Those of us who have criticized the candidate--and especially those of us who enjoyed good relations with McCain in the past--have been subject to off-the-record browbeating and attempted bullying all year. But things have gotten much worse in recent days: there was McCain's rude, bizarre interview with Time Magazine last week. Yesterday, McCain refused to an interview with Larry King, for God's sake, because Campbell Brown had been caught in the commission of journalism on CNN the night before, asking McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds what decisions Sarah Palin had made as commander-in-chief of the Alaska national guard. (There was an answer that the unprepared Bounds didn't have: she had deployed them to fight fires.)So what's going on here? Two things. McCain is just plain angry at us. By the evidence presented in the utterly revealing Time interview, he's ballistic. This is a politician who needs to see himself as the man on the white horse, boldly traversing a muddy field...any intimations that he's gotten muddied in the process, or has decided to throw mud, are intolerable. The second thing is more insidious: Steve Schmidt has decided, for tactical reasons, to slime the press. He wants the public to believe that there is an unfair--sexist (you gotta love it)--personal assault going on against Palin and her family. This is a smokescreen, intended to divert attention from the very real and responsible vetting that is taking place in the media--about the substance of Palin's record as mayor and governor. Sure, there are a few outliers--and the tabloid press--who have fixed on baby stories. That was inevitable....the flip side of the personal stories that the McCain team thought would work to their advantage--Palin's moose-hunting and wolf-shooting, and her admirable decision to have a Down Syndrome baby. And yes, when we all fix on the same story, whether it's a hurricane or a little-known politician, a zoo ensues. But the media coverage of the Palin story has been well within the bounds of responsibility. Schmidt is trying to make it seem otherwise, a desperate tactic. I Spent Years as a POW with John McCain, and His Finger Should Not Be Near the Red Button | Election 2008 | AlterNet
I sent this to several medias. Don't know if it will do anything. Please share. Barack is getting put down so wrongly!
Michele was great last night!
Please read this and use it in any way you legally can. I am so tired of hearing Barack being called a Muslim and Michelle being accused of hating this country. Now these NEW ads that McCain is running using his POW experience to win "hearts and minds" is too much.I fear all his negative campaigning is winning and the polls are showing that.
Is there anyone out there who can bring things like this article to daylight? Why does the media protect McCain from the terrible way he cheated on and dumped his first wife for Cindy? If it was Barack who had done that the world would know.I talk to people daily who had no idea of his infidelity, his wife's bringing drugs in for her personal use through her out of country programs and I hear and also receive daily emails saying that Barack is a Muslim and worse. Why do more people not hear about how low in his class McCain graduated? I would think intelligence is a priority in a President of our country.
I also feel as this fellow POW does that a man with a "hair trigger" temper should not have his finger on the "button".There is freedom of speech in our country. Sean Hannity , Rush Limbaugh,Ann Coulter and others spew lies about Barack constantly. Can the MAIN STREAM media such as MSNBC please say or do more?McCain is "swift boating" Barack and WE all know that was all not true. John Kerry should have been President.Bush stole the election from Gore. Please can someone with some power help out people like me in the true EVER DIMINISHING MIDDLE Class?
I know I live in one home.
I know what a gallon of gas costs and I now people on minimum wage are hurting badly. John McCain does not care, nor does he have any way of identifying with the TRUE middle class people. His family has always had money, he is John S. McCain III and he married an heiress. How can he possibly feel for people who make $6.00 an hour?He wants to privatize Social Security and could care less if we have health care. Is it true he collects his Social Security? I happen to have Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance through my X husband. Each year I am given the chance to choose which type of insurance I want. If I want to pay a lot less, I can even choose an HMO.
I believe that is the same insurance the Congressmen and Senators have and I also believe they do not have to pay for their's. If everyone in the country paid into this they should be able to get the same benefits.I pay $600.00 a month for myself but I have very good insurance. If I could not afford that I could choose a lesser plan each year.

The Federal Reserve is a group of private banks that took over the printing of our money in 1913 with legislation passed by Congress. The Federal Reserve is as federal as Federal Express, it has no real accountability to the government. We have been warned by many leaders of this country that central banks are a bigger threat to our freedom than standing armies.
When the Federal Reserve System was set up in 1913 they started printing money that was not actually backed by anything of real substance. When extra money is put into the system that doesn't have any value in itself it causes inflation. Inflation does not hurt the people who use it first, but it does hurt everyone in the end. Inflation robs you of your money's value, printing money without any backing takes purchasing power away from every dollar you have in your pocket.
The major reason behind our current crisis is inflation. Dollars today only have the purchasing power of $0.04 compared to 1912 dollars, before the Federal Reserve was set up. In the past four years the dollar has lost 40% of its value. There is a point where the dollar could hit absolute zero, and that is a scary thought, but it is completely possible. If we allow the Federal Reserve to keep printing money, we could see hyper-inflation in no time.
The average American has no idea of how bad the system really is right now. Since President Bush has been in office, he has asked the Federal Reserve to print over $4 trillion extra dollars and circulate them into the system. I beg for you to see reason, I beg you to ask Obama to address this issue. The Federal Reserve has served its purpose, and now that is only a source of our monetary problems, it must be purged.
I hope that you would want to hear the truth, I hope you are not one of the many people in our society that would rather just have a good story told to them. Everyone wants to feel good inside, but denying the truth to have that feeling is only going to worsen the problem in the end. I tried to deny the real reasons for our economic woes, but now I have come to my realization of the truth.
Speculation maybe accounts for 25% of the rise in oil prices, but otherwise the rest of it has been caused from inflation, by printing money. Gold prices are on the rise as many of you know, the problem is gold is static, the price of gold is not going up, the dollar is going down. If you take a graph of gold prices, and a graph showing inflation of the dollar, they match, almost precisely. Naturally when the dollar goes down, gold goes up. I know it is hard to wrap your mind around the concept as it was just as hard for me to grasp at first. Gold is not going up in reality, the Federal Reserve is printing more money that is being put on top of the supply, inflation then sets in and it takes more dollars to purchase the same amount of gold because the dollars are worth less.
In the coming weeks when you are going to the historical platform meetings across this country, I beg you to bring up the issue of the Federal Reserve System. It has caused so many of our problems that we currently face. We can no longer ignore the source of the main problem in our economy today, and that is inflation. Go out and educate yourself further, read up on the Federal Reserve. Its purpose has long been served and it is time to put the Federal Reserve to rest.
Thank you for reading,
Barrett
