Early Voting for the entire state of Florida has just been extended.
Every Early Vote location in Florida will now be every day from 7am-7pm up through November 2.

Effective immediately, early voting sites will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., through Friday, October 31, 2008, and for a total of 12 hours between 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2008. "I have spoken with the Secretary of State and members of the Florida Legislature and have concluded that it is always the right thing to do to give voters every opportunity to cast a ballot," Governor Crist said. "I have a responsibility to the voters of our state to ensure that the maximum number of citizens can participate in the electoral process, and that every person can exercise the right to vote." Prior to the 2008 General Election, Florida has seen historic numbers of Floridians registering to vote for the first time. In addition, record numbers of voters have chosen to cast a ballot during early voting. Early voting began on October 20 and runs through November 2. Current Florida law allows for early voting to be conducted eight hours per day on each weekday, and for a total of eight hours during both weekends during the early voting period. Floridians can contact their county's Supervisor of Elections for dates, times and locations of early voting. Florida voters can also request absentee ballots to be mailed to them until October 29. Fay has finally moved on, but not before she left her mark. The flooding--everywhere you look, water. I was lucky. My office was wet, but nothing at all compared to my sister's house where her living room had it's own river running through it faster than it could be pumped out -and so many friends and clients who could not get out or in their homes for days unless they had a boat or the National Guard. I thought Fay would NEVER leave. 30+ inches of water took it's toll. The lake behind my home is half way up my back yard now. The river behind my office crossed the road and came in the homes and offices along its way. Still, I was lucky. And now, the wind does not howl and tear the tree branches down. Fay was not scary like the hurricanes of 2004, but the water- would not stop coming, until today. The rain has stopped and suddenly, I realize that the countdown has begun. I check my phone and my email- is everything working? Soon the news will come. All the calls now are filled with wonder and excitement and speculation.
And after the name is spoken, the next countdown begins. Soon I will board the flight to Denver. I will watch Barack Obama accept the nomination. As the day approaches, I try to journal all the feelings I am experiencing with each passing moment so the children of the children will know in some small way how I felt as I participated in this historical moment. I am overwhelmed and humbled when I consider all the events of the past that have brought Obama to this moment in history. I think of all the men and women who walked first so he could follow his destiny and in doing so renew our love for our country and give us hope again. What a great country, what a great time as we countdown to November.
Things are heating up here on the Space Coast as our OFA field director announces the official campaign strategy for Brevard County Florida at our kick off party Wednesday night, July 23, 2008. Brevard for Obama has Baracked the county while performing community service, supporting NOW and Planned Parenthood, SCPA, manning Obama tables at Steve Blythe for Congress events, attending DEC meetings, and lots more. Our own VR expert, Pedro Uriarte, has joined with OFA for VR and canvassing. Pedro has made a real difference for Obama as he has signed up hundreds of new voters. We are planning a birthday bash for Obama and Pedro to take place the first week in August. In addition, we have many more great events to come that take us into October. These are exciting times. I have found myself at odds with Obama's FISA vote. I don't agree with him. But, let me say this, the fact that I can disagree with him here on mybo and join a LARGE group on mybo whose sole issue is FISA , is, in and of itself, a GREAT thing. Can you imagine disagreeing with George W. Bush and posting it on his website? Maybe in another universe, but surely not now, not in this world. The times they are a changing.
