President Obama is going to address a joint session of Congress on Wednesday September 9th.
This is a critical moment for us to build our movement here in Fort Collins.
Since our OFA Summer Organizer, Samantha, left we have had a slow going building our group and recreating the incredible organization we had during the campaign.
But, summer is over and we need to get back to work...Following the speech we will have a special call with David Plouffe, who will discuss the speech and give us a blueprint for how to win this battle.

As many of you know we have yet another election coming up next year. What you may not know is that the race for the 6th Congressional District in Colorado is probably the single most important campaign for the entire state. Why? It's simple the person currently holding that seat is Mike Coffman. Now for anyone that was involved with the campaign last year you know exactly how bad of an individual Coffman truly is for the State of Colorado. After the pruging of the voter lists, and running for higher office while being the guardian of fair elections for the entire state, Mr. Coffman has since gone on to attack our Governor and the President on many key issues, from the Pinon Canyon issue for the Gov. and Afghanistan for the Pres.
That introduction being finished I would like to introduce you to a candidate in CD6. His name is John Flerlage and he is a 22 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps. I don't think I can do anymore justice to John then do use his own words so I have inlcuded them below:
John Flerlage is currently an airline captain who served 22 years in the Marine Corps before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Marine Reserve in 2000. Over his eleven active-duty years and eleven years in the Reserves, John flew the F/A-18 Hornet and A-4 Skyhawk. He also served in various Squadron and Group level leadership and staff positions and taught classes in world affairs, strategic commitments and the operation of fighters and other tactical aircraft at the Marine aviation advanced tactics school. During his reserve years, John also volunteered and flew missions in support of NATO operations in Bosnia, and in 1996, he was chosen to fly the Hornet aboard the USS George Washington in the first Marine Reserve carrier qualifications to be held in over fifteen years. In January, 1995, in anticipation of retiring from the Marine Reserve, John and his family settled in Littleton, CO, and since then, John has been readying himself to serve again, this time as the Representative from Colorado's 6th Congressional District. To prepare for his candidacy, John has been active in local (Jefferson County) politics, serving at the precinct (PCP) and house district level (Treasurer HD 28). He has also volunteered countless hours on local, congressional, and presidential campaigns. John is currently a member of the leadership team of a start-up group called South JeffCo Democrats, and cites his election as an Obama delegate, first at his precinct caucus, followed by the Jefferson County, CD 6 and the Colorado State Conventions and Assemblies, as confirmation of his desire to pursue a political career. While a freshman at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, John joined the Marine Corps officer training program in 1977. He earned a BA in mathematics from Colby College in 1980, and furthered his education by graduating from the Air Force Air War College in 2001. John was born in Boston on January 29, 1958, and lived in Massachusetts, Maine, Virginia, Florida, Texas, Arizona and California during his school and Marine Corps years. He and his wife, Helena, moved from old Littleton in Arapahoe County to their home in south Jefferson County in 1997. He has volunteered regularly at the schools of his three children: David (21), who graduated from Columbine High School and now attends Columbia University; Lisa (16), currently a sophomore at Columbine; and Karl (11). John played varsity hockey throughout high school and college and continues to play on a local adult team. He particularly enjoys coaching hockey, at all age levels, including a stint as the high school coach at Columbine. John is also on the Governor's Council for Physical Fitness and believes strongly in proper fitness and nutrition for children especially in our schools. As an airline pilot, John is a member of the Air Line Pilots Association and flies long haul international flights for the largest airline in the world, Delta Air Lines. He has had the great fortune to visit many countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, affording him unique insight as a candidate for Congress.

Today I presented to Walgreens Pharmacy the following message....'I have three main complaints... 1) When I come to buy Crest Toothpaste you have everything but the regular 8oz "classic" Crest....this freshens my breath, comes out of the tube easily, and causes me to hunt and hunt....wasting my time and forcing me to come away with a very dissatisfying product... and makes me register my complaint.... 2) When I try to buy Old Spice Deoderant, I instead get some gargage "endurance" product....no longer the "classic"....3) When I contacted Vicks about a product which was very helpful to immediately stop dreadful coughing spells common to old people...Vicks Formula 44D Cough Drops (which you no longer carry)....they said they stopped making them in 1991.......'
When Russia (the old Soviet Union) did surgery.....they packed a body in ice water in place of anesthia......China uses accupuncture in place of anesthia......they have 1 Billion people and spend a much reduced % of Gross Domestic Product on health care......people in the know go to South East Asia to have excellent care and low cost surgery from a hospital there....China also handles crime in a very efficient way (marketing spare body parts after the execution) quickly dispatching antisocial behavorialists in a cost effective way of "crime fighting" which they do not tolerate.....it is no wonder the Swat people in Packistan have rejected our form of laws.......slow, expensive Criminal Justice parctices.....whereas Great Britian serves to determine the truth of the matter by their defense and prosecution attornies, not so the two sides of our "justice" system......for example, the many legislatures in the US may create a law saying three copies of a piece of pornography is illegal.....while creating dysfunctional sexual performance requiring "medical care"
Underground archicture reduces the heating and cooling bills for our citizens....something the many Public Utilities Commission of the various states could do....but do the opposite....guaranteeing a minimum of 10% or more "profit" to interested parties....our housing Deeds of Trust and Mortgages in other states could restore the economy by buldozing blighted neighborhoods......forcing reconstruction and a return to stop the hemoraging of lost counties, states, and federal tax base.......

Rove’s IT Guru Warned of Sabotage Before Fatal Plane Crash; Was Set to Testify

Amy Goodman: A top Republican internet strategist who was set to testify in a case alleging election tampering in 2004 in Ohio has died in a plane crash. Mike Connell was the chief IT consultant to Karl Rove and created websites for the Bush and McCain electoral campaigns. He also set up the official Ohio state election website reporting the 2004 presidential election returns.
Connell was reportedly an experienced pilot. He died instantly Friday night when his private plane crashed in a residential neighborhood near Akron, Ohio.
Michael Connell was deposed one day before the election this year by attorneys Cliff Arnebeck and Bob Fitrakis about his actions during the 2004 vote count and his access to Karl Rove’s e-mail files and how they went missing.
Velvet Revolution, a non-profit investigating Connell’s activities, revealed this weekend that Connell had recently said he was afraid George Bush and Dick Cheney would “throw [him] under the bus.” Cliff Arnebeck had also previously alerted Attorney General Michael Mukasey to alleged threats from Karl Rove to Connell if he refused to “take the fall.”

To the Obama Supporters and Volunteers Who Helped Win Colorado and Turn it Blue,First, let me reiterate and extend a sincere 'thank you' on behalf of the campaign and the staffers who worked with you.Two, a general update. Obama For America is deliberately working toward building a solid and focused structure to capitalize on the hard work you put into building a powerful grassroots organization and utilizing the strength of this organization to help President-elect Obama govern and to help you advance issues in your own community. This process will take time and patience to succeed; we ask you to please maintain your enthusiasm while being patient with the process. There are many details and policies that have to be worked out in order to achieve a mission of community organizing while not being overly political or partisan. I can promise you that a structure and organization will come your way to help you out. Three, moving forward and a vision. With all that said about the next version of Obama For America, I recommend you think about and establish a mission for yourselves with some long-term goals in mind. Some long-term goal suggestions:A. Build an organized structure to conduct the 2012 caucuses in an orderly, proper and fair fashion.B. Designate a few individuals to become involved in existing political structures such as city council, county administration and local political parties.C. Aim for a few community activism goals such as organizing students to do community service or draft a ballot measure to improve parks and community areas in your city or county. D. You can't take the 'Democrat' out of Barack Obama, but you can take Barack Obama out of 'Democrat." We organized on a non-partisan basis. Don't forget that Republicans and Independents helped made this Change real--include them and respect their views by not getting bogged-down in the details of Democratic Party politics. C. Adams County Democratic Party -- it's small potatoes compared to what we are trying to do. Don't get me wrong, having an organized and effective Democratic Party in your county is important. With that said, we won't find the change you seek by going through that party structure. It seems to me that some folks who are deeply committed to the Adams County Democratic Party should go ahead and seek leadership positions within this structure. But, I caution our volunteers to exercise restraint in letting this objective be the objective of the day. Remember, we have a diverse group of enthusiastic volunteers who care about issues, not party politics. Closing Remarks:Obama for America is undergoing a number of organizing operations including a National Day of Service on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Field Organizers are volunteering their time to call other Field Organizers across the entire country to make sure they are following up with their Neighborhood Team Leaders. This effort reflects the campaign's deliberate efforts to appreciate your investment and commitment. The process of migrating our mission from winning an election toward a broad community acitivism and organization structure will take time, but it will happen. Nuclear power is not “clean and green,” as the industry claims, because large amounts of traditional fossil fuels are required to mine and refine the uranium needed to run nuclear power reactors, to construct the massive concrete reactor buildings, and to transport and store the toxic radioactive waste created by the nuclear process. Burning of this fossil fuel emits significant quantities of carbon dioxide (CO2)—the primary “greenhouse gas”—into the atmosphere. In addition, large amounts of the now-banned chlorofluorocarbon gas (CFC) are emitted during the enrichment of uranium. CFC gas is not only 10,000 to 20,000 times more efficient as an atmospheric heat trapper (“greenhouse gas”) than CO2, but it is a classic “pollutant” and a potent destroyer of the ozone layer.Thousands of tons of solid radioactive waste are presently accumulating in the cooling pools beside the 103 operating nuclear plants in the United States and hundreds of others throughout the world. To compound this problem, the global supplies of usable uranium fuel are finite. If the entire world’s electricity production were replaced today by nuclear energy, there would be less than nine more years of accessible uranium.Meanwhile, every billion dollars spent on the supremely misguided attempt to revivify the nuclear industry is a theft from the production of cheap renewable electricity. Think what these billions could do if invested in the development of wind power, solar power, cogeneration, geothermal energy, biomass, and tidal and wave power, let alone basic energy conservation, which itself could save the United States 20% of the electricity it currently consumes.You would believe how many almost nuclear accidents have occurred. I just had a star turn in The Columbine Courier. A really really small newspaper. Here was the key take away they tried to get someone from McCain camp to comment went unanswered. What are they going to say? The same old junk. I know the vets blah. But if the question is about the record he had not good anwser so why not just stay away from it.
McCain is a man who seeks to use us all one last time for poltical gain. We cannot allow this to happen. Veterans everwhere(and for my purposes jefferson County colorado) we need to be out there talking to people. Where you button or your shirt so random undecideds will talk to you about the election. Let people see that we will no be passive polticial props. Let people know about McCains poor record on our issues. Let them know how dangerous his non sensical bellicosity is. Bomb bomb Iran? Bomb John McCains dreams of the white house I say. We need to keep on swinging till we get the KO. This weekend McCain is planning a big vets outreach. We need to come out in force to correct this. We have 5 days and one wakeup to make a difference. I had this conversation with two republicans yesterday I ended up talking to them because they made derisive comments as I walked by. They were ready to be dismissive until they found out I was a veteran. Then they began to listen. Veterans we have a huge role to fill. They changed their tone and demeanor once they found out that I was a Veteran. I don't think I moved them but I gave them food for thought. I did shame them on one thing.
They recited every last talking point from Ayers,socialism then to he's a Muslim. I heard a new wrinkle this person said he didn't like Obama because his mother was an athesist who had him out of wedlock and then proceeded to raise her son as a muslim. All not true.
I responded by reminding them that we fougtht these wars for Muslims its called Iraqi freedom isn't? Then I procdeed to point out that when when he said muslim he really was talking about the .001% that might be jiahdist. I reminded him that there are alot of good muslims. To which one responded that his daughter married " a good one" who wasn't then I pointed out that he could have been an just as big an SOB if he was a christian of any demnomination.
This whole exchange just brought it home for me how much work we have left to do. Get out there voluneteer doing something, talk to people who might be on the fence. Make sure our supporters vote. We have counteract people like these two men,spreading every smear that comes out. These two gentlemen seemed upperclass and articulate they almost certainly have a large ciricle of aquaintences. We aren't done. Veterans we need to get out there and talk to people like this who might be more persuadable. We can't let them get to our potential supporters and sway them in the other direction. Run to your nearest Campaign for change office. Time now move.
