Had to post message about fantastic event I hosted with Moveon.org and THCC last evening at Coolidge Park in Chattanooga, TN, I have recently returned to work with OFA from a family emergency, I asked for a task with leadership, an opportunity to be visual and mingle with our supporters. I was given the mission of the Health Care Reform Vigil " Let's Stand Together" to be coordinated with my cosponsors.
I was fortunate to work with these groups as their experience and knowledge not only supported me in this effort but helped me grow as a volunteeer. We had an awesome turnout especially in Red Chattanooga, TN. We are usually lucky if we have 15-20 at our events.
I came up with the angle of using my students as host and hosteses per a lesson on citizenship I had recently taught, and my partners came up with using that as a media angle. The hook worked, we had tv coverage, not for just a few minutes but for 45 min of our hour vigil. We also had 2 people from the press, I and my cosponsors were interviewed by them and they interviewed and photographed my middle school students. I can't wait to see the Chattanooga Times Free Press today because I hope there is a photo my students We were on Channel 3 11pm news last night.
Oh, did I mention we had a crowd of 75+ people, many who stayed afterwards to chat with me and the other sponsors and registered to volunteer. As soon as I got home there was a wonderful email from a 16 year old who attended the event, he thankied me for hosting and told me how much he enjoyed. What a wonderful feedback for our event! I saw several people taking photos and of course the press will have some. Hopefully I can get those uploaded on this site. But Health Care Reform supporters in Tennessee, listen up , Chattanooga, Tennessee made their voices heard last night!!!!!

I support Barack Obama because he is the only candidate of change. He is the person that will be able to unite the country and gain respect around the world. So if you care about issues such as equality/civil rights;civil liberties/privacy;peace and social justice;foreign policy/security;economic fairness/security;environment/conservation;smart energy policy;public infrastructure/transportation;good government/ethics;electoral reform;affordable health care and education, you shoul vote for Barack Obama.

presidential campaign Barack Obama has begun and I am interested in the issuaThe reason I am
writing this blog is to inform of an idea that me and my friend Brandon (American) have developed

MY RESPONSE TO THE DAVIS ORGANIZATION:
I received this e-mail from someone I knew, who himself had received it as part of a mass e-mailing. If this came from your organization, I must express profound disappointment that anyone claiming to be a follower of Christ would stoop to lies and deceit as a way of trying to scare people. Is this the tactic that Christ used? Regardless of a person's political point-of-view, it should not be cause to spread thinly veiled racial and religious bigotry of the kind that the e-mail below does. I hope that in the future whoever sent this will exhibit a love for the truth and the spirit of love and fellowship that is the legacy of all of us who call ourselves Christian, following in the footsteps of our savior. If the e-mail below was sent by someone not of your organization, then I hope you can track down the perpetrator who is besmearing your organization's work in Africa and elsewhere. I have also passed it along to the Obama campaign and several media outlets as an example of the kind of ugly, vicious racism that can no longer be accepted or waved away as merely the work of some lunatic fringe hate group. John McCain did not support the recent Webb Post-9/11 G.I. Bill signed into law on June 30th. When voted on in the Senate, 92 senators voting for it. (A list of some 50 co-sponsers can be seen here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:SN00022:@@@P)
John McCain was not one of those 50 + co-sponsers, nor was he one of the 92 to vote "yea" on the bill. In fact, he wasn't even one of the handful of Senators who voted against it, even though he consistently criticized the bill as being damaging to our efforts in Iraq. Sorry, he was busy at a fund-raiser that evening.
You see, the GI Bill, with all of its benefits, might entice soldiers, sailors, marines and air personnel to leave the military and the war and go do something more productive and beneficial with their lives than fighting the fruitless struggle in Iraq.
Ok, McCain opposed it...if that's what he believed, I can live with it, even though I don't agree. And he ducked the vote on it so he wouldn't go on record. Again, he loses some points there, but its not out of the standard political realm behavior legislators sometimes participate in.
But since passage...Oh! McCain and President Bush have been telling everyone ignorant enough to fall for it that they both fully supported it and that McCain was one of the guiding supporters behind the bill!
John McCain, keeping that tactic up makes you a liar at best, a coward at worst. You're afraid to take the heat for your stance and your (non) vote.
When Barack Obama recently skirted the FISA issue, again mostly for political reasons, he at least went on recrod and then accepted the heat, sticking with his vote (which I didn't agree with) and accepting that he might lose support for it. He, at least, showed some fortitude for taking a politically uncomfortable stance.
You, on the other hand, opposed passage to this new G.I. bill, and you didn't even bother showing up to vote on it, and yet you now have the nerve to claim to be the "voice of veterans"!
You are not my voice in the Senate, John McCain. If you want to be the "maverick" and the "straight talker" stand up and face the fact that you (once again) opposed veterans benefits and accept the heat for it.
Your voting record on vet's benefits is something that's coming out, and something your covering up and lying isn't going to shield forever, even with a complicit media afraid to say "boo" to you on military matters.
We are the one's we've been waiting for!
In this week's Newsweek there is an article about a group if religious leaders who gather by phone every Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET to pray for Barack Obama. (Miller, Lisa. "His Mobile Ministry." Newsweek 9 June 2008: 36)
Rather than praying specifically for his presidential victory, the religious leaders tend to "pray for the senator and his wife. For his safety, surety, soundness of mind, clarity of thought," according to Kirbyjon Caldwell, one of the Friday morning religious leaders and a "Houston mega-pastor ... who presided over Jenna Bush's wedding and has offered spiritual counsel to her father."
Personally, I do not wear my faith on my sleeve. But I believe strongly in the power of prayer, having seen and felt it work in my life. In fact, as I was reading the article this morning - Friday - I looked up at the clock and it was exactly 9:30 - OK, probably not divine intervention as much as serendipity. Either way, it inspired me!
I am suggesting that we join the Friday morning prayers from now until the election. At 9:30 every Friday morning, let's join our prayers for Obama. If you feel uncomfortable praying for his victory, pray for his safety, sound judgments, etc. The religious leaders pray for 15 minutes; I guess we should get in as many minutes as our schedules allow.
