Had to post message about fantastic event I hosted with Moveon.org and THCC last evening at Coolidge Park in Chattanooga, TN, I have recently returned to work with OFA from a family emergency, I asked for a task with leadership, an opportunity to be visual and mingle with our supporters. I was given the mission of the Health Care Reform Vigil " Let's Stand Together" to be coordinated with my cosponsors.
I was fortunate to work with these groups as their experience and knowledge not only supported me in this effort but helped me grow as a volunteeer. We had an awesome turnout especially in Red Chattanooga, TN. We are usually lucky if we have 15-20 at our events.
I came up with the angle of using my students as host and hosteses per a lesson on citizenship I had recently taught, and my partners came up with using that as a media angle. The hook worked, we had tv coverage, not for just a few minutes but for 45 min of our hour vigil. We also had 2 people from the press, I and my cosponsors were interviewed by them and they interviewed and photographed my middle school students. I can't wait to see the Chattanooga Times Free Press today because I hope there is a photo my students We were on Channel 3 11pm news last night.
Oh, did I mention we had a crowd of 75+ people, many who stayed afterwards to chat with me and the other sponsors and registered to volunteer. As soon as I got home there was a wonderful email from a 16 year old who attended the event, he thankied me for hosting and told me how much he enjoyed. What a wonderful feedback for our event! I saw several people taking photos and of course the press will have some. Hopefully I can get those uploaded on this site. But Health Care Reform supporters in Tennessee, listen up , Chattanooga, Tennessee made their voices heard last night!!!!!

Initially, like most people at the time, I was ok with the war...I thought the reasons behind it were true and solid and I believed our government knew what they were talking about...well...the Bush administration that is. I had also lived in Israel during The Gulf War so, I knew first hand what Saddam Hussein was made of...He continued throughout that war to terrorize not only the people in Israel but Kuwait and our allies... The Israeli 'secret service' (The Shabak)had already devised a mission to take out Saddam and his regime...They had an insider that was able to get close enough to Saddam and his sons and they would have been taken care of back then...but, then the US said...no...let us handle it...and took up arms to 'help' Kuwait and Israel...instead they then too caused more bloodshed but, nothing like now...both Bush's don't know when to stay out of things...I totally agree Saddam and his regime needed to be taken out and was thankful they did...but, the cost is questionable for many of us...and now that we have completed the majority of that mission...we have stayed and stayed and stayed...as if we own Iraq. It makes me sick how many of our men and women are sacrificing their lives (as well as our allies and the civillian innocents in Iraq)and even if they survive...they really never will be the same again...even without any physical injuries...PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) is HUGE...I live with it everyday and I have been in therapy 2 1/2 years solid now...and still have many challenges just in my day to day life...even things that seem the simplest to some people may not be for someone experiencing post traumatic stress...It literally does change your life...and the impact it has is astronomical!
If we can stop the war...I believe we can fix our economy...because personally the way I see it...A) 9-11-2001 had absolutely nothing to do with the war in Iraq and B)nor the problem with our economy...BUSH and the war is what made our economy drop like this...The funding the Bush 'regime' has put into this war has put us not only in a national debt again but this time higher than ever before! I wasnt a big Clinton fan either (But, I was proud of how he pulled us up above the debt we had been in) as I am not for either party...I am simply for who ever impresses me the most with their views and values. (I did however vote for Kerry in the last presidential election and was sadly and grossly disgusted when Bush got back in for another term)
So, guess what I am saying is we have to keep reminding ppl who are on the fence still that these two main issues are THE reasons our gas prices have sky rocketed, food and other costs have went up...and our country is headed for its greatest depression. WE MUST TURN THIS AROUND! Also, remind them that because of republicans (like Bush) we the people, no matter what party we are with...as Americans...are the laughing stock of the world...because of our leader...because of how the rebublican party operates! We need a leader we can be proud of and that the world can look at and say...wow ! The President of the United states sure has his head on straight and is really leading his country!(...not degrading and demolishing it like the republicans in office are doing now...)
