In this excellent op-ed piece, super-economist Christina Romer (one of President Obama's most trusted advisors) makes an impassionate plea for health care reform. She expalins the different options that could lead to the President's goal of universal health care, and helps the reader get a really goodunderstanding of what is really at stake. Too often, we hear that universal health care would be too costly and force the economy to suffer. That is a far right Republican talking point which has been discredited several times over, but which still survives and lives on because of the ignorance of many. This piece by Prof. Romer dispels all misunderstandings and makes the choice clear: health care reform would strengthen America's economy for the future, not hurt it...
D.C. Awakening--my interview with Jen Nedeau, Women's Rights blogger at Change.org.
Jen Nedeau blogs about Women's Rights at Change.org. She's not a seasoned feminist who has it all figured out; in fact, her feminist awakening began only a year ago. But she understands that women of her generation have grown up with a "dangerous sense of equality" that does not sync with real-world politics. This interview was recorded in March of 2009.

There I was, happily switching to CNN between innings of a Dodger game, when what to my wondering eyes should appear: an ad. with several Canadians talking about how bad their public health system was for them. Forgive me for jumping to conclusions, but I reflected on that morning's meeting among the health care giants and the President, in which they offered him their "support" in bringing down health care costs. I concluded that it was all window dressing, and the real efforts of the health care giants were directed to killing a public health care option in its crib. Why? Simple. That option, if properly funded, will work, and will provide as good or better care than the "giants" can. The arithmetic is simple: each option will have to have all the same things, except for high-paid executives, public relations firms, and a cadre of flunkies who are charged with denying coverage to anyone who asks for it.
The Economist magazine, not a liberal publication, has long published what it Britishly calls the "league tables" on health care in the developed world. With little variation over the years, we are last in almost all measures of public health, and yet our system costs the most. Check it out. Are you angry yet?
It is time for some very big change in the health care field.

Your Turn: You hear from me and hear my opinions a lot. My thoughts are often based on information that you may not have because your full time job is not studying political issues and voting on them as mine is. So here's your turn to play Member of Congress. Here are 4 issues currently in the news or under discussion. I will tell you what I know about them and then give you 3 choices on what to do. Now, I know that some of you will say that you didn't like any of the 3 choices and you have your own idea. But often in Congress, we only get three choices - vote for it, vote against it, or abstain. I will give you the results in the next laptop report:
OK. So maybe that last one is a little tongue in cheek. OK, OK, a lot tongue in cheek. But there is a bill out there to do away with the BCS and the President has publicly called for a playoff system so it is now a government issue. I have not co-sponsored the BCS bill by the way.
Until next week, I remain respectfully,Congressman John Campbell
if it doesn't show up please ask for his 4-27 quiz. let him know how YOU feel
