I dont have pictures up yet because I am not home. But they will be up soon.

After US Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) publicly announced his opposition to Dr. Sanjay Gupta for consideration as Surgeon General, I have seen a small flurry of emails and buzz about the position of Surgeon General.
Over the past 25-30 years, the office of Surgeon General has been largely unnoticed, although a notable exception is the work of C. Everett Koop to combat false advertising about smoking and promote smoking cessation programs. The role of surgeon general is largely seen as ceremonial, but in reality, the office is extremely important for advocacy, prevention education, and the use of scientific research to inform policy on healthcare issues.
The official Surgeon General's website says the following about the duties of the office:
The duties of the Surgeon General are to:

According to TheHill.com writer Molly Hill, Rep. Conyers distributed a letter regarding opposition to Gupta's selection. Conyers argued: "It is not in the best interests of the nation to have someone like this who lacks the requisite experience needed to oversee the federal agency that provides crucial healthcare assistance to some of the poorest and most underserved communities in America."
The argument doesn't hold water. There is no question that Gupta has effectively guided healthcare policy discussions on CNN. His leadership skills are not in question, nor is his ability to effectively use research-based information to clarify facts and advocate to the public.
Where some of the opponents are really concerned is in Gupta's attempted refutation of Michael Moore's movie, "Sicko".
As Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman said, <blockquote>I don’t have a problem with Gupta’s qualifications. But I do remember his mugging of Michael Moore over Sicko. You don’t have to like Moore or his film; but Gupta specifically claimed that Moore 'fudged his facts', when the truth was that on every one of the allegedly fudged facts, Moore was actually right and CNN was wrong.</blockquote>
According to an article in USA Today, Moore told CNN, "I'm about to become your worst nightmare." (http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2007-07-16-sicko-CNN_N.htm) Moore took it personally. And while I appreciate Moore's courageous effort to educate the public about our broken healthcare" I'm also concerned about the style and tone of Moore. I think we need to face facts: Michael Moore has alienated as many people as he's inspired. And while there are many people like me who have gradually warmed and converted to the concept of single-payer plans, I also recognize that there is tremendous political, social, and corporate opposition to any kind of government-funded healthcare.
Michael Moore did a very good job of factchecking the factchecker. I hope he'll continue to do this if Gupta becomes our surgeon general! But we all need to realize that there is a substantial chunk of the American public who have been hoodwinked by the right-wing media, the drug and insurance companies, and even their own family physician. We also need to realize that statistics lie, and there is perhaps no better example of confusion over statistics than the Gupta-Moore flap.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oR2U_SAWHdQ
There is something very symbolic about the appointment of Gupta. Because while Gupta has befriended the big pharma, insurance companies, and the medical business community, he has also had the courage to commit acts of journalism - to ask questions, get the data right, and present it to the public effectively. Even more importantly, Gupta has been willing to admit when he's wrong, and when the data and facts disprove the conventional wisdom in the medical community.
That's what the Surgeon General does.
The S.G.'s work on prevention is also an important component of the office. In this area, Gupta is a very effective communicator. He's learned how to identify experts in the medical community and give them a platform to speak. Where Gupta has room to grow is in his ability to speak with the public and engage "Joe Sixpack" as part of the national debate.
There are probably any number of highly qualified candidates for the job. But Sanjay Gupta is the most visible representative and is definitely a "highly recognizable symbol" of the nation's commitment to "get it right" on healthcare.
Dear friends,On the evening of the election we've all dreamt about, anticipated, imagined, and worked toward, I feel impelled to write and recognize all of you, the foot soldiers of the Obama Nation throughout the country and the world. You have rewritten the book on political campaigns by showing what a vast movement composed of small decision makers working together can accomplish when each one is inspired by a believable leader who speaks the words we didn't even know we were waiting to hear. This is the first 21st Century political campaign and the American political process will never be the same. But I'm also reminded of the inspired decision makers who banded together to oppose a British monarchy that believed it was entitled to rule over them and enrich itself from their hard work. The country they invented had a long way to go; and, I'm sure it still does. But the day after tomorrow, we will all sit down in amazement and realize how far we've come. Instead of saying, "Yes, we can!" we'll say to ourselves, "Yes, we did!" Each one of you believed our country, the United States of America, one more time could build on the long struggles of the past, could overcome the hijacking of democracy that has taken place over the past 8 years, and could rise to greater heights than ever before. And, then you went out and did something about it. I'm proud of our positive, grassroots, bottom-up, hope-based campaign and grateful to each of you. So, from the bottom of my heart, I want to say "Thank you!"
Now, let's do what it takes to get the vote out!
All the best,
Owen
Earlier today, DFL Associate Chair, Donna Cassutt sent out the email below promoting the Campaign for Change's Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) effort...
In 17 short days, Minnesotans will go to the polls to vote in the most historic election of our time. That is, of course, if they are asked. We know that the number one reason people don’t vote is that no one asked them to. Will you join me in these final few days of the campaign and ask our fellow Minnesotans to join us at the polls on November 4? This weekend, we are pleased to launch a new website, www.gotvforchange.com. In the final days leading up to Election Day, we’ll need thousands of volunteers to fill thousands of shifts as we Get Out the Vote in all corners of Minnesota. We’ll be walking door to door and calling our neighbors, encouraging them to vote for the entire DFL ticket. Visit www.gotvforchange.com right now to sign up. Many of you have been working hard during a very long campaign. You've been incredible. You might be tired. You might be thinking it’s someone else’s turn to help out. You might think that we’re going to win. But we can’t give up now. Campaigns are about how we finish and we're almost there. No one will remember how many doors we knocked on or how many phone calls we made if Senator Obama doesn’t win Minnesota. But when he does, because of your efforts, we will know that we pushed to the end to make it happen. Let’s keep pushing. I’m fired up and ready to go. Are you? Click here to sign up right now. We need your help to encourage our neighbors to go to the polls in the final days of this campaign. We know the most effective way to motivate voters is by calling them or visiting with them on their doorstep. Whether you can volunteer a few hours or several days, it is critical to our success that you sign up now to talk with your neighbors to ensure Minnesotans vote for change on November 4. You might say – well, I don’t want to wait until the weekend before Election Day to start helping. Excellent. We have offices throughout Minnesota that are up and running day and night right now and we’d love to have you stop by and pitch in. Click here to find an office near you. Thank you so much for all you do, and will do to help get out the vote. With your efforts, we will elect Senator Barack Obama as the next President of the United States, send Al Franken to the Senate, elect three new Democratic members of Congress and secure a veto-proof majority in the Minnesota House. With your help, the DFL will win – up and down the ballot – in all corners of the state. Sincerely, Donna Cassutt Associate Chair Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party P.S. There is too much at stake to stay home. It will take each and every one of us to do our part to achieve victory on November 4. Please visit www.gotvforchange.com to sign up now.

Ray Schoenke, the founder and president of the American Hunters and Shooters Association, is in Minnesota talking to rural Minnesotans about Barack's respect of the rights of sportsmen and women and the Obama-Biden plan to restore the economy.
From the Bemidji Pioneer:
Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama won’t take away Americans’ guns, says the head of the American Hunters and Shooters Association. “We’re a gun rights organization and we are stating Obama’s not going to take away your guns,” Ray Schoenke, who is founder and president of the AHSA, said in an interview Thursday night. Last summer, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled a Washington, D.C., total ban on handguns as unconstitutional. In overturning the ban, Justice Antonin Scalia said that “the individual right is confirmed, that law-abiding citizens have the right to own a gun,” Schoenke said. “That pretty well set the issue aside,” he said. “He basically said government cannot confiscate your guns. Congress cannot enact laws that can take your guns away. Which means Obama can’t take your guns away, nor can McCain. That whole issue is over with.” Coming up with laws for rural American and for urban centers “takes away their fear issue,” he said of the NRA. “To me, it’s misrepresentation, distortions and lies. It’s the only thing they have. It’s unfortunate that McCain and Palin buy into it.” “The gun rights issue is behind us and conservation is important,” he said. “Obama is ahead of McCain, and I think he’s clearly ahead when it comes to the economy. That’s why I strongly urge hunters and shooters throughout Minnesota to look to Obama and support him.”

Rather than relying on attack ads and distractions, Barack is focused on dealing with the economic challenges Americans are facing.
Barack will give tax cuts to 95% of middle class families. He'll end the tax breaks for companies shipping jobs overseas, and put them where they belong by cutting taxes on small businesses that grow local economies.
But we need your help to make sure people know the truth, and are focused on all the issues.
Log on to My.barackobama.com to get involved. Be sure to check out the brand new “Neighbor to Neighbor” canvassing campaign that makes it easy to reach out to voters in your own neighborhood.
Watch this and think if this man could talk to foreign leaders or make rational cool headed decisions. This is so scary. He could blow up and not work with anyone he did not like. OMG he even shoved a woman in the hallway and has called his wife the c word in public!
You have watched how hateful and condescending he has been towards Barack and even the media now. He is out and out lying and will do anything to win.We need this out there viral and let people see the REAL McCain.......not the kind of PRESIDENT we need in this time of crisis!

If Palin gets VP talk about anti American! She is stirring up hate wherever she goes. We have to say Enough!
This is not acceptable!
http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/2008/10/07/palins_unamerican/index.html
We don't not need hate and partisanship stirred up. Palin is stirring it and McCain is letting her run free with whatever she wants to say. This country needs to work together to get us out of this mess we are in. Barack is the only one who has the intelligence, knowledge, temperament and vision for that great future.Let's all help Barack and make sure all the slurs and hate stops!
Enough!
These are facts about McCain, his family, his life and all the mistruths that he likes to brag about. Please take the time to watch these and you may be shocked.People everywhere have the right to know these things about John McCain. He is no maverick. He would be a disaster as President. He is strictly out for John McCain and has proven he will say or do anything to get elected. Please help Barack and share these facts. McCain’s campaign is getting nastier.
Thanks, LuAnn

With just 33 days until Election Day we need to step up our efforts to convince undecided voters to vote for Barack Obama.
To put him over the top here in Minnesota, Barack needs us to step up in our own communities, because we know our neighbors better than anyone.
Sign up now to join a weekend canvass in your area and make a difference in your community.
My wife and I are quintessential, older, over-educated, internet-connected, Kool-aid drinking, “Yes we can”-chanting, Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld-Gonzales-Rice hating progressive voters, the type the right likes to characterize as “elitists” even though we have friends from many cultures at all levels of society and they(our right-wing critics) only commune with the wealthy and privileged. Beginning with the Super Tuesday primaries, we have hosted a series of TV watching parties that continued through the primaries, the Obama-Clinton debates and the Democratic convention. We publicized the events through my.barackobama.com and by direct invitations to like- minded friends. Every get-together has been a delightful and stimulating experience where diverse people, many of whom we met for the first time when they knocked on our door, joined us in uninhibited expressions of enthusiasm and hope for a better USA. Each party had its own unique flavor, determined by the mix of people who happened to attend. We had several repeat visitors and many new faces on every occasion. The debate last night between Barack Obama and John McCain was our first opportunity in a month to host a gathering on a major occasion in the Fall campaign. Following our usual procedure, we put up a notice on my.bo.com. With a limit of 25 people listed, a steady rate of people signing up built the number of online registrations to 12. Yesterday morning, I saw an email in my inbox from Amy, a neighbor in the next subdivision, who had noticed the Obama sign in our yard while walking down our street, read the event notice, figured out that the sign and the party belonged to the same household, and who wished to come to the party with her teenaged daughter. Amy mentioned that since the event was full, she would have to see us another time. I was surprised that we apparently had an influx of registrations at the last minute and I wrote Amy back asking her to come anyway and bring her daughter, too. Checking my event, I saw that someone had signed up with the intention of bringing 13 people, just enough to max out our party. That seemed odd, so I emailed the person and asked him to confirm the registration. Further checking of my inbox showed a letter from my.bo.com notifying me that someone had signed up for 10 or more spots at an event, triggering an automatic warning email. It dawned on me that the 13 person sign up was in all likelihood a dirty trick by a McCain operative to disrupt our event by preventing additional people from signing up! I deleted this person’s registration forthwith. Perhaps this little Karl Rove-style tactic was relatively minor; seemingly it had minimal impact on our party. My new friend, Amy, from a few blocks away came with daughter, Morgan, and most of the other people who signed up made it by the time the debate was underway. Did anyone else besides my neighbor try to register after the trickster maxed out our registration? Who can say? But, what is clear is that this tactic reflects a dishonest, dishonorable, mean-spirited mindset among those who oppose Barack Obama. The aim of the dirty trick was to keep Obama supporters from getting together for an evening of sharing. Why do this? Perhaps they are afraid we will all pitch in some money and send it to our candidate. If that’s it, they could save their effort- we don’t use our parties as fund raising vehicles. I suspect that the fraudulent sign-up claiming that 13 people wish to attend was intended merely to keep a few people from joining us for fun and friendship. Lovely, isn’t it?
I have a motto, “Always a student, never a victim.” If you can learn something from an experience, then it wasn’t a failure or a defeat. Therefore, when I list our “Watch Sen. Biden put Sarah Palin back in the box where she belongs” debate watching party for next week, I’ll make the registration limit 50 people. Anyone signing up for 38 spots at the event will definitely get my attention.

Paulson has declared himself king of America and the majority of media hasn’t had the nerve to tell him he’s been part of the problem and isn’t trusted to be part of the solution. Essentially he and the Republicans have declared martial law. Hank expects us to trust him to deal fairly with his buddies without any oversight or advice. What’s next? Will he decide the economic crisis is to volatile to allow national elections?
The facts show that the problem was caused by allowing the market to operate without regulation. So logically, Paulson’s solution is to allow him to make thing right by not regulating his actions. Only in Alice’s Wonderland would anyone suggest such an idea.
Hi,
Thanks for visiting.
I finally decided to jump into this campaign. I've never really been involved in a political campaign before. Usually I take the attitude of live and let live, but this election year I've had enough! I'm tired of the McCain/Palin ticket smearing Barack when the truth is so easy to find on www.factcheck.org. I'm sick and tired of seeing campaign ads that I can argue are false on TV. I've never been so thankful to have a DVR before because the blatant lies make me angry. I think we voters deserve the truth. I can't wait for the debates. I hope the moderators they've chosen do a good job. I really miss Mr Russert ~ I always felt that he wouldn't shy away from asking the tough questions.
So anyway, I decided to set up my personal my.barackobama.com page today. I also decided to get involved. I've signed up register voters the next 3 Saturdays to get my feet wet. I'm still leery of cold calling potential supporters or knocking on their doors, but maybe I'll be able to work up to that.
Please wish me luck the next 3 Saturdays!

Nick Kimball, the Obama campaign's Minnesota spokesman issued the following statement regarding the brief McCain-Palin airport stop planned for this Friday:
We welcome Senator McCain and Governor Palin back to Minnesota for their brief stop at the airport. Senator McCain's stubborn insistence that the "fundamentals of the economy are strong" shows that he is disturbingly out of touch with what's going on in the lives of middle-class Minnesotans. And, unfortunately, not leaving the airport grounds won't do anything to change his out of touch perspective. Barack Obama understands the fundamentals of the economy and will cut taxes for 95 percent of Americans.

I just posted this video on the DIGG site and really would appreciate you going there and digging it.
I took a swipe at McCain and how his VP pick was strictly a political move and how Barack vetted Joe and made "HIS OWN DECISION".
If we can get enough Diggs on it it will possibly be in the top 10 of the day and everyone will see it.
It would be super exposure for Barack as he commented on the stupid "lipstick on a pig" controversy and made some other great comments on several things. He showed both Humor and also made some great POLITICAL points!
Please take a minute, watch the video and PLEASE go to DIGG.com and digg it. The Republicans have been burrying some of our good stories on the DIGG site so PLEASE help!
In remembrance of the seventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Senator Obama released the following statement:
Today, we honor the memory of the lives that were lost on September 11, 2001, and grieve with the families and friends who lost someone they loved in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. We will never forget those who died. We will always remember the extraordinary efforts of our firefighters, police and emergency responders, and those who sacrificed their own lives on Flight 93 to protect their fellow Americans. And we give thanks for the Americans defending us every day in our communities at home, and in our military abroad. On 9/11, Americans across our great country came together to stand with the families of the victims, to donate blood, to give to charity, and to say a prayer for our country. Let us renew that spirit of service and that sense of common purpose. Let us remember that the terrorists responsible for 9/11 are still at large, and must be brought to justice. Let us resolve to defeat terrorist networks, defend the American homeland, stand up for the enduring American values that we cherish, and seek a new birth of freedom at home and around the world.
